T805 on AOSP 6.0 exchange-email client - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, after suffering for a year with stock rom i finally bit the bullet and went AOSP and i'm not looking back. the only thing i miss is the exchange email client that comes bundled with stock rom. what are you guys using as an alternative? seems like samsung client apk won't work but other oem's clients will, has anyone had success with these? thanks for any help!
BTW the trickiest part to getting rid of stock is getting out of download mode and rebooting to recovery (it reverts recovery to stock if you don't catch it), after about six tries i managed to hit the power+up+home at the precise moment needed. thanks xda for all the hand holding

VPN problem

Just a week ago, I flashed Infamous Lite onto my SGS2. I have been very satisfied with it. I noticed today that the dev has disappeared (for good reasons). So, hopefully someone else can help me.
I just tried to setup a VPN on the phone and it will not connect. I keep getting a timeout message. Trying to connect via WiFi has the same result. The instructions I followed are here: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/#android_ipsec_l2tp
This worked on a previous T-Mobile phone and also on my SG Tab 10.1. I did not try it on the SGS2 stock ROM. Has anyone else been able to make a VPN connection using the Infamous Lite ROM?
I know I could try any of the several other ROMs here, but I have my phone just the way I want it and I like this ROM. I'd rather not spend many hours trying other ROMs, reloading apps, reconfiguring things, etc.
As an aside, I could not connect to this VPN with a Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile, either. I decided it was something specific to that phone. I don't use that phone any more.
Thanks.
It seems that ICS has broken VPN functionality: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23124
I found a solution. OpenVPN works fine: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.blinkt.openvpn&rdid=de.blinkt.openvpn&rdot=1

Need advice rooting Rogers S III

First of all, I'm not new to rooting my devices. This is the 4th Android phone for me (Dream, Magic, Captivate now the S III), all have been rooted by myself. What is scaring me off rooting at the moment is the flash counter and a decent working Rogers ROM. I need to be able to toggle LTE, when I travel out of the city there is LTE availability but it is garbage. The phone is faster on GSM at that point, believe me, I tried everything I could to make it better. I need WIFI tether to work properly. I did find the hint about switching to the tether APN, and that works, but that is a bogus solution, I shouldn't have to do that. Ohhh, not to mention the garbage email client (who does *not* support HTML emails these days?!?!?).
What I am looking for from Rogers users is advice from people who have done it for (limited risk) a root solution and a decent ROM that will fit the bill for what I do.
In my everyday travels I use Bluetooth pairing to the car for media streaming, wifi tether, usb tether (only when wifi doesn't work, but then I can't connect the TouchPad to the 'net), email, sms, browser (I do like the stock browser in ICS & Jelly Bean AOSP, but the ioncluded one in Rogers version sucks balls).
Anyone got any fool proof solutions I can use?
PS-I'm not a newb, please don't tell me to go search, I've read thread after thread after thread and there is so much conflicting information available right now. I'm looking for advice from Rogers users (Bell/Telus would probably be ok too) that have actual experience.

To this one point: this has nothing to do with the Rogers ROM. Stock email client on JB/AOSP also does not scale HTML emails, neither does Gmail. In fact, though I hated the convoluted interface and buried menu options Rogers added to the Email app, they actually added the ability to use rich-text when sending emails, which is absent in AOSP.
I guess I got used to the AOKP ROM's which do have a decent email client. And you're right about the Rich Text in the Rogers ROM, but 90% of the emails I get are HTML. Makes them hard to read.
I'm currently rooting the device, still looking for ROM opinions...
Where's my Easy button? That was easy.
Currently rooted and de-bloated. Still waiting for decent ROM suggestions.
I am pretty much in the same boat as you. How/what did you debloat?
I'm backing up my phone now and going to load a ROM shortly. I'll post back if it doesn't brick.
I followed this to root, install CWM Recovery, and de-bloat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Just installed this ROM, but it won't toggle back to LTE, currently trying one more fresh flash and will have to restore my Nandroid of the stock ROM if it doesn't work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751595
Well that didnt' work well....... the ROM loaded, but Google Play Store won't load. Nor did any of my apps. SO.....
Back to the stock rom until I learn more about this.

Yeah, running that ROM I toggled to GSM & back to LTE and it stuck on Edge, wouldn't come back. So I restored my Nandroid. Will look in to other ROM's when I have some time.

SMS Problems...

Intro:
I have the Samsung Epic 4G. Great phone, running into problems. I originally started out rooted and modded with the CyanogenMOD 10 Nightly. Everything was going great and I love the mod but I started getting MMS problems where I couldn't see the pictures being sent or the ones I was sending. There was an easily located temporary fix found online to delete the telephony file and restart the phone. No biggie I can deal. Then bigger problems started arising as I was no longer getting all of my text messages. Sometimes none. I contacted Sprint and they ran through the whole ordeal of giving me some codes to input which of corse wouldn't work on the MOD and I couldn't update the profile so they said they'd check the tower where I was located and turned out nothing was wrong with it.... My wife and I are having a baby so being unable to contact her without calling constantly is a no go.
Main:
I flashed the stock for the SPH-D700 and all of my problems were fixed. This is a no bueno for me because it's full of bloatware and the phone without modification dies before my workday is out practically, even without heavy usage (and forget heavy usage because that was like shooting the battery into the sun and who the hell wants a smart phone that works for only like an hour?). After looking around I located the stock FC09 Deodexed MTD which comes with ShadowKernel (aweeeesome!) and flashed that. Didn't have any issues and all my texts were coming and going through. This was tested at work using a series of seperate sequential alphanumeric texts and all was good. I installed the usual suspects, Voltage Control, Juice Defender, SD Maid, ES Explorer, the WiFi hack, etc... Not being a fan of the stock messaging app I also downloaded the standard Chomp SMS app (which is def a step up and ad free) as well. I knocked the voltages down reasonably and tested them using Voltage control to do that and control the CPU (no overclocking). I got rid of all of the apps that the XDA Wiki said I could and backed everything up. All was well until yesterday. I charged the phone the previous night and went to work doing the normal kinda day act. I sent my wife some messages but figured she was busy when she didn't respond. Hours later I realized that she probably had responded because she never goes that long without doing so. I asked a few friends to text me and I texted myself as well and now I wasn't getting ANY texts. I did the phone dance with Sprint to no avail and they told me to take the phone to my local store. This would be the second Epic 4G that they would be replacing. The first one had this problem too but fixed itself when I flashed the stock rom. Then there was some water damage which thankfully insurance covered and I got my replacement earlier this week when I worked on modifying my phone to something I found acceptable. I think this rules out a hardware issue. On a whim I restored to a backup that I had made after getting my phone neat and tidy and some odd things happened. I started getting texts, but not the ones that I had already missed, and I was getting some later ones first before getting the first ones sent, I.E. i'd send 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and get back 5, 2, 3, 4, 1 but they would arrange themselves in the correct order onces they came. It was also taking them forever to come in as I would send them and have to wait five to ten minutes for them to come.
Conclusion:
Tired, frustrated, and somewhat perturbed I reflashed the stock rom and the problem again has fixed itself. My question is has anyone else run into this? I've looked everywhere and can't find a similar case. Am I just not seeing something that's directly in front of me? Ideally i'd really like to put Cyanogen back on but I can't afford not to be in contact with my pregnant wife. I'd also reaaaally like the WiFi cabailities that were advertised with the phone but then neglected to mention that I would have to pay 30$ extra a month for. Is this a similar issue to the MMS telephony file issue that can be resolved with perhaps a nightly deletion of a file? Is there anything I can do NOT to be on the stock rom with the worthless battery life and bloatware that chokes?????
Sincerely,

So that's a big wall-o-text. I didn't read it, and just skipped down to your conclusion. You can flash another CM based 4.2.2 rom to test SMS/MMS. It all works fine for me on Slim. If you want TouchWiz, then flash The People's ROM. This rom has no bloat and better battery life than stock. All of these roms have the Wifi access point built in.

I'm dloading the latest CM 10.1 RC4 to give it another shot. I'm not confident that this won't happen again either immediately or within a few days. Thank you for your input.

I guess my concern is that this happened across both roms, FC09Deodexed and CM10.
Ok so no luck. Flashed CM10 and no bueno. Not getting all of the messages I send to myself. Massive delay between send and receive.
Then you're left to using Odin to get back on stock. Check auto-reboot, repartition, and f. reset time. After you are back on stock FC09, you may as well update PRL, but be sure to update profile. Test on 100% stock again.
If things work like they should on stock, then Odin in CWM without auto-reboot checked. Battery pull, then reinsert. From there boot into recovery and flash a rom of choice. Test again on newly flashed rom.
If things are not working properly on stock rom, then bring it into a Sprint store for service.
Sorry to say but all of that's been done and put in the original post (which you only speed read through the last part). I appreciate your help though. This is the second Epic 4G to do this to me on everything but the stock rom which makes me think it's not hardware but if it's not happened to anyone else then not much else I can do.

Haha, yea well it was a big wall of text.
I've burned through my ideas, lol. Good luck to ya.
Np, I really appreciate the advice. So far i've rerooted, reflashed the FC09DeodexedMTD and did a straight sprint (no lollygagging with install and uninstall of apps) to a barebones what I want system, apps include then backed up via CWM. So far it's still working great though i'll keep my fingers crossed. Should anything happen I have a backup from the getgo that should put things back to the way they were, ie. working. Stupid problem, of corse it has to only be me with it.

[Q] Data and syncing turn off when screen is off.

After running on a stock ROM(but rooted /w TWRP), I decided that I wanted to install a custom ROM so that I could tether if needed. Well, big mistake. I wiped stock and accidentally wiped my stock backup when going to flash a custom ROM and so far I've tried XenonHD, Jedi X19, IllusionROM, and now I'm on a Stock-Tweaked. So far, every single ROM has caused massive delays in receiving SMS messages and syncs from stuff like gmail.
Data is definitely working, and i've tried both the epc.tmobile.com and fast.tmobile.com APNs but my phone keeps hanging when it trys to send some texts and, if I have texts "waiting" to be delivered to my phone, I only receive them once I turn on my phone screen or only if the screen is on. So what the hell is going on here?
I am not installing anything on the ROMs aside from what's coming with them. The issue presents itself immediately after I boot for the first time and set up gmail.
It seems that if I go to 4G/3G/2G mode only the issue doesn't persist. Or at least not as much. But then I can't use LTE! =/
I've tried multiple ROMs that were TW and multiple that were simply AOSP. So 4.1.2, and 4.3 roms. I even accidentally flashed a 4.2.2 AOKP ROM.(for the Note 2, of course). I am not back to the stock Odin recovery with a root injected stock image but i'm still suffering from the same problem =/. This really sucks. Is there a way to completely wipe EVERY trace of an older Android install off of the phone?
I haven't tried the total stock bare bones one yet because the mirror is so slow, it's currently at 641 / 895 MB downloading and has about an hour left. It's the 4.1.2 June release.
I'm attaching a logcat to this post as well, from when I had the screen on, locked it, turned the screen on, and unlocked the phone.
I just realized the logcat is about 58k lines long, so I'd start from the bottom and go up since that was the most recent phone activity of when I actually went through the motion described earlier.
Let me know what happens when you try the stock sw.

I had this problem is well. I had to call at T Mobile I told him I was getting long delays in my text messaging, yes I know you're not getting delays it's only happen to you when your phone is in sleep mode. I told him I already did all the normal stuff to correct the problem. they reset their network connection. That fixed it for me. Hopefully your problem is that simple.

Anyone had Good or Bad Experieinces Activiating a Phone with Custom Rom

Happy Holidays to Everyone,
A few years ago I sent someone a phone with a custom rom, and the sprint guys thought they could not activate it, however It technically should be able to be activated even with a custom rom.
I just wanted everyone's experiences.
Thanks and be safe this Holiday
Force
It can be done. But as with all support, you have to know what they're talking about and be able to do what they want you to do, including changing values hidden in menus which may not exist on a non-stock ROM and things like updating a PRL. When I had cable internet trouble I always told them I rebooted the modem and restarted Windows while never touching the modem and kept messing around in CentOS.
They have no standing to help you with any custom software.
