Seven adblock [non-root] - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I just ran across this yesterday. Seven adblock is able to block ads without root. I've tested it and it does seem to work well. It blocks ads by creating a vpn that can be toggled on and off with ease.

There are a few streaming apps that have issues. If you have an app that stops working, just disconnect from the vpn, reopen the app and it should function properly.

That is only useful if he is already rooted, not if he is trying to setup for the first time. Not sure what his situation is.

AdAway.......
I had the same issue. I enabled the hotspot on my Nexus 5 and tethered off of it. I added 2 entries to the AdAway app settings to redirect the update URLs to 127.0.0.0. Then to test and verify, I connected my laptop to the hotspot and did an nslookup on the update URLs to verify they didn't resolve before connecting the FireTV to the Hotspot. Worked great!

Can you configure the DNS settings of the hotspot at least? If so I'd suggest pointing it to OpenDNS and blocking from there.

[Q] Error on Fire tv running certain apps

Hello everyone....I am running pre-rooted version 51.1.40.0_user_514006420 on the Fire tv. While running certain apps like Rdio, Hotlist Internet TV & allrecipes, I get the following error:
"A secure connection is recommended to use this app. we were unable to establish a secure connection and recommend that you try again later. "
No matter how many times I try running the app again, I keep getting same error message.
Any ideas on what could be causing this issue and what would be solution?
PS; Fire tv is connected to the US VPN with PIA.
I donĀ“t know these apps but probably they request https:// connections instead of http:// and maybe your VPN doesn't support https (HTTP Secure) or it needs to be enabled at first.
Also, it could be that the apps do not allow a VPN connection. Lot of sites and apps are no longer allowing users to use VPN connections to visit their site or use their apps. One the site detects you are using a VPN thy will stop you from entering.
To check if your VPN supports https:// if you have a browser just o to google.com, then look in the address bar and if the address starts with https:// you will know if thats the problem. Google addresses will always start with https:// unless your VPN does not support it or if you have https:// turned off somehow.

Mobile data blocking app tip

Hello. Could someone tell me a mobile network blocker to use on my device? I'm using Google Datally but I think there must be something more interesting for this purpose. I feel that it doesn't totally block the network, like, any application that I can control usage and release according to whatever I want.
I use adguard, mainly for ad blocking, it uses a VPN, and it has an integrated firewall that lets you control what apps will have network access, in wifi and data modes, also, if the allowed apps will have access while the acreen is on or off, I find this very useful

Anyone got a firewall working with VPN?

I want to block the internet connection of some apps. I've tried afwall but it seems not to work when VPN is connected (though I thought it was supposed to). Anyone else got it to work or have any other solutions?
don't know if AF Wall works that well on 11 but you definitely can run those two together on 10. don't use the vpn column in AFWall to make things simpler.
I use Karma Firewall but I'm running on Pie.
You will lose some of its features like logging on Q and above I think.
It's freeware, adfree and uses almost no battery; a near perfect app. On Playstore.

Which is better VPN Or Antivirus

All samsung phones comes with McAfee security built in, maybe not top defense. Is that good enough, or Do you need added antivirus protection like McAfee plus, or will by using a VPN be adequate for protection while surfing the internet , banking etc.
you posted this in the wrong place, but VPNs and antivirus software serve two different functions.
an antivirus detects only previously known malware that has gotten installed (by you essentially) and then removes it.
a VPN protects your data from being intercepted and read. a VPN is very good for banking apps. an antivirus should be useless to anyone who's careful.
BTW, I think we only get 3 free virus scans from the pre-installed McAfee.
Ok thanks, can I move the post, maybe to questions and answers
mods will either move it or lock it eventually.
Karma Firewall is a VPN based firewall that uses very little battery.
I scan with Malwarebytes occasionally.
Neither protects you if you do stupid things. Androids are fairly secure barring acts of user stupidity
Thanks for the replies, I had Bitdefender and it was blocking my pictures in SMS, uninstalled Bitdefender works perfectly. So now I am using a VPN, without any other antivirus installed
Most malware is downloaded by the user, a VPN will do nothing to prevent that...
