I recently installed a custom 6.0.1 ROM (CM13-based Mokee, which is rooted) on my old Galaxy Note 2. I find that I'm really missing some of the Samsung apps (like their email, camera & locker) for which I can't find acceptable alternatives in the Google Play store. Is there a way to get access to the Samsung Galaxy Apps store from my custom ROM so that I can install some of the apps that I used to have before my (ahem) "upgrade?"
AFAIK no, there is no way to get the proprietary apps from stock Touchwiz over to a CM/AOSP based ROM, especially considering you would be using apps from Kitkat Touchwiz on CM/AOSP Marshmallow. They just have too many dependencies baked into the stock ROM other than just having the APK. The only thing you could try: go back to rooted OH3, Titanium Backup (or similar) the apps you desire, then when you go back to Mokee try to restore them. With 95% certainty I would say they won't work. If you heavily rely on the touchwiz apps then go back to OH3, root it, put on xposed framework and Wanam xposed and you will have a decent amount of customization while retaining the stock apps.

Is there anyway to transfer stock features/apks safely from rom to rom let's say the motion controls, or sdcard encryption or led control and svoice or apps likes that. It seems like there's a lot of control over the phone that I don't want to lose if I go to CM9 or other roms.

i want to know that too! i want the stock calendar app on cm10
I was just thinking about using titanium for apps. But as for other options like motion controls I have no idea.
It is impossible to get touchwiz apps on AOSP ROMs. PERIOD.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Nothing that requires the touchwiz framework will work on AOSP ROMs.
So no motions, stock calander, stock message app etc.
If moving from tw based to another tw based ROM, just copy the apk from system > apps to your SD card and put them back oh the new ROM with the correct permissions.
Can someone pull the files for the stock 4.3 TW camera?
Currently using Camera Awesome and Snap Camera HDR but I prefer the stock camera app and it had video stabilization.
I'm with you. Pretty much the main reason I'm currently staying with a 4.3 based Rom. I like having ALL of the features available (slow record, fast record, etc).

Stock camera for galaxy s4 is just so beast..
can we pull the camera APK from a 4.3 Touchwiz ROM and install it on a AOSP or CM rom? The only reason I'm still on Touchwiz is for the camera, but I'd like to use it on a Google Play Edition 4.4 ROM. I believe there's a different Gallery app that must accompany the camera app.
I unzipped a 4.3 ROM and found there's a "cameradata" folder with 8.7mb of files in the systerm folder, which is separate from the "SamsungCamera2" APK. I can try loading an AOSP ROM, installing the APK, and placing the cameradata folder in the system folder. How do I install the APK? Would i need to put in the system/app folder then install via settings? Of course I'd make a Nandroid of my current ROM first.

The short version is simply no.
The long version is...
The issue with the camera in AOSP ROMS is that the stock TouchWiz camera has all kinds of proprietary software driving it. That software is built into different parts of the rom and absolutely requires the TouchWiz framework to run. (Which is also proprietary). You can't just pull the APK out of TouchWiz and install it on AOSP.
So there is no way to get the stock TW camera to run on any AOSP rom.
This means that any other app that is using the camera is using generic software to run the camera hardware. This leaves out the ability to do things that the TW software was specifically written to do like crisp auto focus and color depth and all those goodies that make the TW camera better. All that software was written specificly for the S4 hardware.
The Cyanogen camera or the Google stock camera is just an app using generic software not written specificly for this phone's camera hardware. That's no different than ANY other camera you can find on Google Play. They are ALL using generic software.
As a result, none of them are every going to be as crisp as the TouchWiz camera software. They almost all still take a really good picture with this phone, and many give various effects you might enjoy, but if you are looking for a downloadable camera app that takes a higher resolution, better focused picture than the CM camera, you're not going to find one that's substantially better.
It's the major drawback of AOSP roms on the S4. But unless you are a photog with a really decerning eye, you will eventually become used to the AOSP Camera quality. It's still better than most other phones on the market.
Thanks for clearing that up. That was tremendously helpful.
Trying to clean all the sony bloat out of this phone while still having core functionality (camera working 100% etc)... is there a list of all the apps that are safe to remove (via titanium backup) from the stock rom?
I was going to just flash an AOSP or CM11 rom to go vanilla but I have read that the camera suffers and you still have the stability issues
Any advice from someone who is running a "clean" z1 compact?

Well, there's not much Sony bloat on the phone, it's not a Samsung or HTC. I prefer the Sony calendar to the stock Google one, for example.
Also if you don't want to use the Sony picture app you can get rid of Album and just keep Photos. Similar is true for Walkman vs Play Music (I kept both).
Then you can get rid of Playstation apps and TrackID (you can use Shazam if you want). I'd leave it at that.
You may want to check munjenis rom and the corresponding debloater in post #3.

I've been using the Android L port and I'm loving it. The only problem is that I hate all the official google apps. Plus the ROM only comes with Google photos. I really want to put something together once the ROM is more stable (although it really is good right now) that includes aosp style apps.
Does anyone know where I can get the apps? Can I just pull them from a custom ROM? Or can someone put together a zip that has a few aosp apps? I'm mainly thinking browser, gallery and a file manager, but suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: I was able to pull the apks out of another ROM, I chose the latest (7-20 at time of writing this) CM11 and put the files where they should be /system/app and I changed the permissions to match other files in the same location. Then I rebooted to recovery and wiped both caches. File manager (CM File Manager) and gallery worked fine, I can't figure out browser though. I found an app on the play store that was an AOSP Browser installer and tried that too, but browser keeps crashing on launch. So if anybody knows how to make AOSP browser install please enlighten me.
Thank you.
Hi guys,
I tried looking around but couldn't find a solution but i have a custom ROM and i wanted to install a few stock apps like the remote app and the power saving app because i was used to them, where can i find them and install them?
You can see if they are ported to aosp by browsing the themes and apps section.... But as a rule, apps made for Sense require the Sense framework to function. So sense based roms should have the apps, or at least you could manually install them.
As far as finding them, some may be on the play store, or you can wait for someone to upload them for you. ?

Hi, thank you for the reply, yes i can now agree with you that i need a sense based ROM to have the stock apps working because they are available on the play store and you can install the app but when you run it, it refuses and says unsupported device.
Thanks for this
