T-mobile has introduced rollback protection for both kernel and bootloader. There is no going back or flashing a non signed kernel for now.
More info as this develops.
This is true, this OTA does NOT allow you to odin @eousphoros TWRP version. It also does not allow you to downgrade kernel or bootloader, this leaving you on stock until @Chainfire and @bigbiff can have a look at the OTA..This is a sad day for T Mobile users
Notice the splash screen as well, it says "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING". Youl will get the same message when attempting to downgrade your kernel...
Bl rollback protection
so does the switch to unlock the bootloader in the developer options not have any bearing on the rollback protection?
This is great news, not more than 1 hour prior to the message getting posted i had finished loading 5.11, without greenify in rooted mode, it's already using more battery life than previously with root.. This totally stinks.
Dangit. If only I had waited 2 hours more.

It didn't for me. After switching that enable oem unlocking to on, I still had the above mentioned issues

Is it possible that this is fundamental to all 5.1.1 builds? The same thing happened to us on the Nexus 6. There were a few whom unknowingly downgradded their bootloaders, and ended up hard bricking their devices.
Even on reboot, in developer options, the toggle for "Allow OEM Unlock" would switch to the off position. This didn't mean that the bootloader was locked, but it did mean that you had to reset it. Most rom devs have since flipped the switch on startup.
My hope is that you will soon have working recovery and root on the latest firmware, irrespective of whether you can or cannot downgrade.
Curious, can we build a new ROM that includes the @eousphoros kernel, the OF6 system.img, and modem.bin? (without including the new OF6 kernel or the new sboot.img?)
Edit: Upon further thinking, there'd be no reason to use a different kernel, just NOT include the new bootloader, right?

Here's what's interesting about that....the eousphoros leaked 5.1.1 kernel is NOT seandroid enforcing, and the new bootloader recognizes that and doesn't let you boot with it.
It also recognizes the 5.0.2 kernel is another android version and it will fail during an odin flash

I'm talking about for those who haven't already taken the OTA or haven't Odin'ed the new one yet.

Actually, I'm just going to include system.img, boot.img, cache.img and modem.bin.
anyone know wtf cm.bin is? I can't seem to find out any info on what it is or if it should be included.
Edit: well, I upgraded from the unofficial 5.1.1 to OF6, only flashing the four partitions mentioned above. It booted fine, rebuilt the dalvik cache for all my apps, and was doing OK.... except that the fingerprint reader wasn't working and LTE was also not working. Strange. So, I rebooted.... and bootloop.
So, I boot into TWRP (because I still have that!), and wiped cache/dalvik. Stilla bootloop (immediate bootloop). Dang. Wiped cache/dalvik again. Still the same.
So, I flashed the unofficial 5.1.1 via TWRP. This time, it's stuck at the first "galaxy s6 edge" screen.
So, I've re-created my odin package again. This time without cache.img, but I included cm.bin. Let's see if I just shot myself in the foot?
Edit2: Well, it's booting again, for what it's worth... at least to the Android is Starting screen again... it'll be a few minutes...

I could be wrong but I believe the bootloader may be in more than just sboot.bin, @Surge1223 would know better than I.
A quick update: It booted fine, but the fingerprint reader still borked. I was thinking that the LTE wasn't going to work again (stuck on Edge), but I think I just didn't give it enough time last go-around. The LTE cam up after turning mobile data off/on again.
The phone was going very slow, not snappy at all. So I rebooted. And, this time, no bootloop! yay. The fingerprint reader is still not working, though. The speed picked up. I'm also noticing that the brightness sensor isn't working right, perhaps?
Now the next question: Can I still downgrade?
Edit: Well, so far, it's letting me Odin back to OCG stock. The "RP SWREV:" is 1 and "Kernel RP SWREV:" is also 1. Downloading...
(I've had issues using Odin-to-stock after running the unofficial 5.1.1 update, so I might not be able to boot after this...)
Edit2: Well, it worked. I'm back on OCG stock. I can't fully boot (I can only get as far as the TMobile screen), but that's a side-effect of trying to Odin back to OCG without wiping data/cache/dalvik. If I were to do that, I'd be back on OCG stock fully. For the meantime, though, I'm going to jump back on the unofficial 5.1.1 update.
Edit3: Well, for some reason I'm not able to seamlessly boot back into the unofficial 5.1.1. I was able to flash TWRP just fine and flash the 5.1.1, but I get stuck on the "galaxy s6 edge" screen on subsequent boots. Tried formatting System/cache/dalvik. Not willing to format Data yet, though.
Older kernels often don't boot on new bootloaders. This is fairly common on Samsung devices (and also very annoying). This would in fact often halt at the "kernel is not SEAndroid enforcing" line. Rolling back bootloaders to older versions also usually doesn't work.
A rebuild of TWRP or whatever custom kernel you're using may be all there is needed. I wouldn't be scared of bootloader locks just now. On the other hand, I wouldn't flash it yet either

Thanks for dropping in and shedding some light on this Chainfire. We all greatly appreciate it.
Hopefully this is just a minor hiccup.
The kernel revision is in the decrypted boot.img signature, and the bootloader rollback protection is in eFuse bank. I've not yet researched any Exynos devices before, but in the past they've used the RPMB (a special, protected hardware partition on the eMMC) to store their 'fuse' bits. However, with recent hardware trends, I wouldn't be surprised if they implemented a true one-time-programmable fuse bank. This is the future of Samsung.
Alright, screw it. I'm just going to flash the full OF6. Chainfire has a very valid point. We faced this same kind of crap on the T-Mobile Galaxy S5. It wasn't really a problem with locked bootloaders, it was a problem of downgrading the kernel/recovery (or trying to downgrade the bootloader itself). He's absolutely right.
Yes, there's some chance that they've added some sort of hash-checking for flashing new binaries (essentially locking the bootloader), but I'm not terribly worried. I've been using the leaked 5.1.1 update for a while now without root, and I've been "mostly" okay with it. I'm really just waiting for Chainfire to graciously invest some of his time in finding a root for the Samsung version of Android 5.1.1. I can wait.
So, here goes taking the plunge, the full OF6 and all... 3...2...1...

Yea I remember the downgrading bootloaders and modem issue on many other Samsung devices kit kat on up, ie s3, s5, note 3 excluding the engineered bootloader work around. But we were still ok moving forward, but I think I'll hold off on the update to see what happens now
Hello Everyone,
I've been up literally all night (I know, that old line) trying to fix what happened. I bought this phone last year. It was unlocked and rooted. I never updated because it was never giving me issues. But the lagging and battery has finally got to me. So I decided to upgrade to this new rom(http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-0-t3094423).
It looked clean and minimal bloat, just the way I like it. However, I didn't get past updating the Bootloader. As soon as I did in Odin it went into a bootloop. Try as I might I couldn't get into recovery. Luckily I can still get into download mode. So I read up and found that I should flash the original firmware. Unfortunately it failed because I tried to upload an older version. Is there anyway I can flash this rom via odin? Sorry for the noobish questions here but it's past 8am and I've just about given up. If I see recovery is not seandroid enforcing or rev check fail s6 device 3 binary 2 I'm going to lose my mind lol. I did have TWRP installed if that makes a difference. Just can't access it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
P.S. I know I used buy instead of buy but can't fix it. It was really early in the morning haha
Ok I managed to download the stock MM version for my phone. I still have bootloop issues but I'm in recovery mode at least. However not TWRP though, if I try downloading a custom recovery it says the dreaded "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" also it says Device does not have DRK. Any guesses here?
Well, I've just about given up. I've searched extensively and it appears that the fix is to download a different kernel. However, the G925T has no support yet for any custom MM kernels. I made a backup of my phone via TWRP before this whole mess but the problem is I can't get to it. And to be honest I'm not entirely sure if it's still there. Here are the steps I have taken thus far.
1. Downloaded MM Bootloader: this was the start of my issues. Started bootloop, couldn't get into recovery.
2: Attempted to download original LP firmware: Odin denied it, there was another version I download from zidroid called "downgradeable". Obviously did nothing because I was still running MM bootloader and was effectively the same thing.
3. Downloaded stock MM firmware: Finally was able to boot into recovery but it was useless as it was the stock one. Also wouldn't boot up due to "Device does not have DRK" and boots straight into download mode. Tried to download recovery but none of them worked. Kicked me back to "Recovery not Seandroid enforcing".
So this is where I'm at, I just want to get back to my old device I honestly would rather have a clunky phone than one that doesn't work at all. Is it possible to downgrade back to LP and get back into TWRP and flash my backup? Do I still have root after taking all those steps? Any help would be greatly appreciated because this has officially ruined my weekend?
I guess I'm talking to myself here but if anyone ever encounters this issue at least it will be documented if I ever do fix it.
I managed to get into TWRP. Although arter doesn't have a kernel that supports our system yet. The twrp recovery he has does, ours is compatible with the fi variant. Again that's only the recovery no the kernel.
So I was at a cross roads, do I restore my backup or do I continue with the download. Unfortunately none of those options worked. When restoring the backup I get stuck on the samsung page with "kernel not enforcing" or whatever. Do be fair, before I did this with my device it had already said that. So I gave it some time, but alas no luck. And the same issue with the when I tried to continue the download. I'm a little lost as to how to continue now. I just want my device back.
try dd the mm firmware

Not sure what state your phone is in. To begin with, the not Seandroid message with recovery is normal, if you are on marshamallo. If you are on LP then you get the same with the Kernel message when it boots up. BOTH are normal depending on which Firmware you are on. But that said you shouldn't be trying to downgrade, if that's even possible. Have you tried smartswitch and the emergency software restore function. It will wipe out everything on your phone but at least will boot up with the latest MM. Then simply Odin the arter TWRP and then install XTRESTOL which I am using NO PROBLEMS on my TMobile 925T variant. NOT sure about the DRK root key problem. But when you install stock MM with smartswitch you should have also gone into settings and enable developer settings to make sure OEM unlock was enabled before doing anything else.
Lastly, the Arterkernel will actually work fine as far as booting up. The ONLY issue is call audio which we all are waiting for a patch, or a kernel that supports everything. But, I have TWRP installed that arter kernel, and the phone boots up just fine. You just do NOT have call audio. My suggestion at this point is smartswitch. Just know your serial number so that when asked you can plug that in to the menus smartswitch goes thru before wiping and restoring current MM latest and greatest.

Thanks for the reply, I don't have the box for the phone and couldn't boot it up so that was a no go. But luckily for me I decided to give that rom one more go. I flashed bootloader and modem again, then flashed TWRP, and finally installed the rom. And boom! It worked, and it's better and faster than ever. I'm not sure what all that other mess was but I am going to say I have everything I need at the moment and won't be flashing anything anytime soon. I've learned a great deal through this process though. Thanks for everyone's help.
Hello.
The short story is I found one s3 t999 in the drawer and it had 4.x.x ROM. Without paying much attention I flashed the latest TWRP and installed Lineage 7.1.2, but I get "No SIM card" error and am essentially without a network. I'm using a non-tmobile SIM card.
The problem synopsis:
The S3 T999 yields "no SIM card" error with anything beyond Android 4.x.x.
- Tried with Lineage 14.1
- Tried with the latest 7.1.2 OCtOS
- Tried with a LP 5.1.1 OCtOS rom
they all say NO SIM CARD and subsequently "No Service".
Once I restore my touchwiz 4.1 ROM via TWRP - I get network reception and I can make and receive calls.
Can anyone walk me through the problem? I work with linux and flash my other phones with ease, which means I can execute any suggestions momentarily.
THANKS
You need to flash the latest stock ROM, then twrp, then custom ROM.

If I understand correctly, I need to Odin-flash the latest stock rom, which I found it to be JB 4.3. Will this affect my SIM lock situation, seeing as I don't use a tmobile SIM.
Also, Odin requires that I enter "download mode", which TWRP (currently installed) does not seem to have. Odin does not 'see' the s3 connected (whilst in recov. mod).
Does that mean I need to flash a stock recovery first, and if yes, where do I get it and does it matter which stock recovery is being installed?
Flashing the latest stock rom should not affect the sim lock.
You can boot to the bootloader from twrp.
Just flash the stock with Odin, no need to flash anything before hand.

Quite right, I was about to sideload-flash a stock recovery I unearthed here, before I noticed in TWRP in the Advanced menu having the "Download" option right next to sideload, so I booted directly into download mode Odin'd the latest stock rom I found (JB 4.3) and I do still have cell reception.
Does that mean I go into DL mode now, sideload TWRP and proceed to install Nougat (and hoping to have network access)
THANKS A BUNCH

ALL DONE.
I Odin'd TWRP 2.8.6, from there I sideloaded TWRP 3.1.1 then upgraded via IMG install from within and installed OctOS 7.1.2 nightly.
Would you recommend Lineage over OctOS?
Thanks for the tips!
You could have install twrp 2.8.6 and flash the 3.1.1 zip from recovery.
Sorry, I can't make any rom because I haven't owned an s3 for a few years.
Glad you got it all sorted

Unfortunately, right off the bat, LED notification isn't working when a call is missed. I tried to call my number to inspect reception and when the call was registered as missed - no notification light is present - at all. Despite being enabled in settings.
Some custom ROMs have bugs so I recommend trying others until you find one you like. I used to flash my s3, s4, Nexus 5, LG g2 all the time and would come across minor bugs. At least your sim works with newer custom ROMs.
I'm now using an iPhone but still get the urge to hop back to android.

Fux's sake! I spoke too soon.
Overnight, the phone (with Nougat) lost network again and in the morning showed "no SIM card". A restart remedies the problem for about 10 minutes before it completely refuses to acknowledge its SIM .
I downgraded with Odin to JB 4.3 and it appears to have network coverage for about two hours now. I'm about toss this piece of garbage 'fone' in the bin.
Is there any reasonable explanation as to why this idiot of phone of mine looses connection, just willy-nilly?
Maybe these nougat roms are too buggy. How about some older cm roms?
Freakin' antique isn't holding service more than few hours (at best) regardless of ROM installed. Even if there is a sequence of actions that can make this piece of garbage 'fone' work well - I'm no longer interested in investing a single minute further. Goes in the bin, end of.
Life's too short.
Just to update those who'll likely one day google and find this.
After going back and forth for as many days... my personal reason for losing connectivity on the s3 was because of a FAULTY SIM CARD. Had it replaced and network coverage came flowing.
As for those wishing to upgrade to Nougat or MM as I have, YOU NEED TO UPGRADE TO THE LATEST STOCK ROM, BEFORE MOVING ONTO NOUGAT.
Matter is now closed.
Hey everyone,
I have been rooted for a LONG time, but have been gone for a year or 2. I have the OnePlus 3 that IS rooted with:
Experience OS R11.0 with
Kernel 3.18.31-perf+
[email protected] #1
7.1.1
OP3_o2_open_18
This one has served me well, but may be a bit obsolete.
What rom and kernel can I use now from 7.1.1 What must I do? I see 8.0 and such, and a host of others. Will I lose everything if I upgrade to a new version? I always do a nandroid, and I have Titanium Backup, which I THINK keeps apps, etc...
I remember having trouble installing Roms way back when. Not sure if it was a TWRP issue, as I also had Philz at one point. ( I Have TWRP now, but not sure which version) I had to use what i have (Which IS a GREAT ROM) because I was afraid to brick my phone, because I had so much trouble getting a rom to load. I constantly remember the little android falling over saying "Leave me the **** alone. If I boot to recovery, I just get the TWRP screen 3.1.0.0 that never opens. It just stays on that page and never opens, so I have to turn off the phone to reboot to turn on
I sincerely apologize for not remembering or keeping up.

Make sure you have the latest TWRP by Bluspark, it just works flawless for me and alot of other people.
Take a full backup. Wipe system and both cache partitions. Then flash the latest Experience ROM. For the open beta releases I should stick with stock kernel. Otherwise Franco and Flash kernel would be interesting. For root I should go with Magisk. Everyone uses it nowadays and the modules are super handy.
Twrp issues
I have rooted the One Plus 3. I loaded TWRP about a year and a half ago. Now when I try to go into recovery, TWRP comes up, but never opens. I tried removing it, but it wont remove, and I try to reinstall it using several methods including apps, but to no avail. The bootloader is unlocked and the debugging is on. Any suggestions. I can't do a backup or anything.
Thanks

Boot into fastboot, then connect it to your pc and use fastboot flash recovery. Get the latest TWRP.
I tried that, but it won't take. If I had a tar file, I could try it with Odin, but no matter what I do, when I go into bootloader, it says I'm unlocked, then I try to go into recovery, and TWRP shows up, but typically you get the different choices like backup, install, etc... I stay stuck on the TWRP page, that does not do anything, nor does it give me any choices. I have to shut the phone down each time just to get it back to working mode. I tried the adb method using the cmd prompt, and everything works up to trying to actually flashing TWRP...

You may have to flash the original recovery by oneplus , you can find it on one plus downloads in google , make sure before you do anything that you backup anything important like photos , videos to a computer , then download the ROM of choice along with the correct gapps for that ROM and the correct firmware ( most ROMs will include the recommended firmware in their post ) , also download the latest twrp recovery from twrp.me and magisk ( if not included in the ROM ) then its just a matter of wiping system , data , cache and dalvick whilst in twrp , install the ROM with the gapps let the ROM boot and setup a few of your settings then go back into twrp and flash magisk manager and you should be good to go , good luck and make sure you fully read the instructions on the ROM page that you want ...
This info is for people who are finding it difficult to install a custom ROM or who are just waiting for the right time to experiment. This method is fail-safe. Any support needed, I am here to help .
To start with:
I unlocked my RM5P bootloader was able to install custom recovery and even root my phone, but I was not able to install a custom ROM ----- till yesterday night (I am on EVO X now).
Failed attempts:
I was able to downgrade to RMX1971EX_11_OTA_0170 with stock recovery but after loading the ROM, I cannot load into FASTBOOT.. Again to get into fastboot, I needed to upgrade to CO1 (Android 10).
Then from fastboot mode, I tried installing ROM (very old version) thus maintaining the TWRP and Fastboot.
I tried to install custom ROM, it gave me error 7. This error is because the Firmware was too old for the custom ROM to be installed.
Success:
I then installed color os V 170 from TWRP (it can decrypt OZIP files-it will covert that to zip and install). Used just common sense, as all custom ROMs at present need color os (specifically version ...170), so after installing ROM using TWRP and staying in the recovery (because if I load ROM now, I will lose FB and TWRP), I Dirty Flashed (just to be on the safe side) custom ROM (EVO X) , and then format data (might still give you error, there is a workaround) and restart. That's it.
I am in Evolution X latest build.
ADVICE:
Whatever experiments you want to do on your mobile, do it while you are in WARRANTY (after confirming you have your service center nearby and working). If your phone ends up bricked (like me-before) get it fixed free of cost. BECOME A PRO WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
Oh well that's extremely nice of you and useful. You're helping the community of this device a great deal with your informational and technical guides. I can safely thank you in the name of all users.
Though I'm feeling kind of sorry and bad for you. You really weren't able to use custom ROMs till 14th of May? Geez... That must've been horrible. I'm a fan of pure and stock like, simple, well modable/shapeable Android since I was a kid and got my Samsung Galaxy phone with Android 2.1 back in 2009. Since then I can't stand any limitation brought by Android skins like Miui or Color OS. I was on GSI ROM on the third day of having my Realme Q back in October of 2019. Not like warranty did count anything since there's no Realme in Hungary and it was an import device from AliExpress. So many testing and experience, lots of adventure. Can't even imagine what would I have done if I couldn't get rid of COS till now. Even the thought is maddening to me ? You've got my respect.

I appreciate your time and message.
I have only dared once in my lifetime to experiment on a tablet i bought online on the first day, that time i restored it with another rom, and even replaced that gadget after 2 days for another one because it didn't have multi touch, many years ago.
With realme, i was kind of scared to experiment till some months back and i even had to visit service centre thrice to restore. Now i have learned a bit on how we can BRICK our phone.
One important thing i learned is, STOCK rom is the best, and i am back on it.
Thank you.

Avoid installing custom roms using duty flash, i mean the second custom rom should be done as clean install. I said that specifically because, i tried three roms in a span of 1 hour, the third duty flash (derpfest rom) gave me indefinite boot. Had to go to service centre because phone was not bootng to twrp.
I went back to custom rom, Android 10 to get BL back. Anyways, i was not that satisfied with the present custom roms available.
But that's me, you can go ahead and try roms.

Thanks for help , but in any case , I don't wanna mess up to such extent that i have to go service center ,
Can scenario get that bad ?
I mean fastboot gone , twrp not booting up
Also you just flashed custom 10 rom from twrp n got bootloader
And one more thing i wanna try derpfest rom android 10 version
So please have a look at these steps
Color os zip flash by twrp , then wipe data without booting and flashing derpfest 10.0
How will that go , i mean will i have bootloader

I suggest you check this with another derpfest user, please. I never got to boot to derpfest.
I downloaded Evolution X 4.7 Rom zip file and followed the instructions given in thread to flash zip file. But after flashing when I tried to reboot in system, it gave me a message on swipe screen that OS is not installed but still I swiped to boot in system. My device tried to boot a couple of time and ended up in fastboot again. Fortunately I had already made backup so I restored my backup.
As per your post I should have flashed color os 6 ozip file with twrp before flashing evox rom.
Every thing ok.i think you are not flash Vebeta after flash recovery.
