Here's a fairly simple fix to a lingering issue that affected the VZW m9. The fix came about during a discussion with the repair efforts @beaups made on one of the many phones that either end up without service or dead in his hands. Guess you could say this was a lemons to lemonade moment. The key to this was the realization that unlike the m8, the stock recovery on the m9 forward NO LONGER resets the golden nv radion settings. This process will do just that....
Remove volte from account. (If already enabled).
Then latest ruu and factory reset
Run this fastboot commands while booted to the white bootloader screen. For the HTC 10 remove the _ from the modem name.
fastboot erase modem_st1
fastboot erase modem_st2
Then reboot and try volte activation.
Thanks for this, will be testing out once i have the chance to go through the process.
Hey gang-
Just wanted to drop a note that i'm moving on. As such, I have requested my threads to be closed as I won't be around to support them much anymore. Any download links (if applicable) will also be removed shortly as well.
Thanks and peace out.
@dottat thanks for reopening the thread and I know you don't offer much support but could you shed some light on the details on how to remove Volte from your account and if you can flash custom ruu vs going back to stock and flashing stock ruu with stock recovery.
Sent using Tapatalk
I did the steps and I get "We encountered a problem activating Advanced Calling 1.0. Please try again later." Any ideas @dottat?
EDIT: Went to my account and enabled it on VZW. Rebooted my device and it was enabled on my device. Awesome!

The basic premise of this fix has nothing to do with stock recovery. It's actually about doing what stock recovery USED to do for us. It used to reset nv radio info by wiping the modems during a factory reset. It no longer does so manually wiping them does the same thing. You probably could do it without RUU'ing as long as you know you are on vzw firmware/radios only.

OK... After setting up adb and fastboot, deactivating HD voice, putting the phone in Download Mode, making sure fastboot works by testing the reboot command. I tried those commands and it's basically saying that "erase" is not a valid command for modem_st1 and modem_st2 in CMD. Rebooted and reactivated HD voice on plan and phone and trying and it's saying I don't have a Verizon SIM on the phone, (It was saying this before) so I reboot to get data working again. I'm still on Viper 5.0. I did flash the Marshmellow RUU before flashing 4.3 back in February. Could I have lost a radio or something. @hallstevenson did you ever try it and get it to work?

Disabled HD Voice from My Verizon go into bootloader hook phone to PC type in CMD Those commands it says FAILED (remote: Partition modest 2 erase not supported) I've also typed in fastboot oem rebootRUU which it takes me to a blank screen HTC logo on it and gives me a warning then I typed those commands still same Failed message in CMD. Is there something I'm missing. Haven't had anybody come out and say they were successful. Only thing I haven't done it go all to stock RUU bit I have the latest radios and firmware so I don't know

I had an issue with my phone a couple of weeks ago where I'm only able to the bootloader screen and the fastboot screen. Fortunately, I got a replacement EVO 3 days later but I'm still trying to get my old phone up and running. But after trying everything I can find, still nothing.
So my question is, when do I say that the phone is officially bricked?

Believe me, I've tried everything, from using amon ra PC36IMG.zip in the bootloader. It updates successfully then still no recovery.
I've tried the ruu via bootloader, it updates successfully. It still bootloops continually.
I ran Football's recent 4.54 ruu in fastboot successfully and still nothing.
Everything I try, it continues to bootloop.

Well CM7 is the ROM typically being run when phones enter the bootloop of death. However, I've heard that there have been a couple of MIUI ROMs that have entered the bootloop of death as well. If you've flash a recovery and still cant enter it and tried to fully unroot then you might have to take it to Sprint. I'd make sure that you're fully unrooted before doing so. I would also recommend removing your SD card so that they cant try to deny you based on rooting the phone. Just a precaution.

Fortunately, I already got a new phone but the reason I didn't take it into Sprint was because it still was S-off. Since I can't get to recovery, how would I get s-on?
And now that I ran stock ruu's, is it a possibility that the PC36IMG.zip's won't be recognized anymore?
I'd love to get this phone running again and let my 7 year play some games on it but I'm afraid I may be sol!!

Well you said you tried flashing via PC36IMG, and it 'worked' but it didn't stick, i.e it didn't 'work'. What you can do is extract the boot.img from the rom / ruu, place it in your adb tools folder. Then boot the phone to the bootloader, select fastboot, connect to your pc via usb cable, open up command prompt, navigate to you adb tools folder and type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
That will flash the boot image to the correct partition, then reboot the phone, and see if it boots up.

No problem.
And if the NV is corrupted, its toast. It was a flaw with the evo when you bought it, and now its decide to tap out. At that point you'd have to take it to sprint, as the NV is part of flash memory and its locked.

I tried to use unbrick method and now phone will not boot at all
It just stays at black screen and vibrates once after pressing the power button
I pulled my phone out of my pocket it and saw that it was on the HTC boot screen. It stayed like the for a while so i shut it down using Power, Volume UP&Down.
I tried to boot again but was freezing at the HTC boot screen.
I booted into recovery and it said it couldnt load /cach/x (command and log and last_log)
Ive tried everything from flashing RUU to new HBOOTS, nothing is working.
Now my laptop keeps saying a USB port is malfunctioning everytime i plug the phone in.
Im two seconds away from smashing this with a sledgehammer.
I was running Aeroevan's Unofficial CM10 Jelly Bean With the v12 Kernel w/ Video Drivers.

The Inc 2 ports often go bad. Try wiggling and plugging it in not all the way. Also sometimes had to push on the cable and hold for it to recognize the USB.

If your phone can be used via fastboot it should be able to via adb. Like CS said, It might be a bad micro-usb slot. I would try wiggling it to see if that helps. Being able to access fastboot means its not bricked, it just might be a hardware failure.

If your phone isn't booting past HTC screen it won't usually show up as an adb device.
Are you s-off?
Have you tried the return to stock that I posted?

This does not change hboot version so you shouldn't get that error but will put un-rooted stock and stock recovery back on your phone. Then you can install custom recovery, flash su bins and be ready to go again...... hopefully

Hey Guys,
I know there are many Threads online here but I cant find the information I need.
I've got an HTC Desire Z, bought in Germany without Branding. I need to ship it for warrenty, because it's not booting anymore: HTC Logo then 7 times vibration and off.
If I plug the powercord: Orange LED on ... 7 times vibration and off.
I cant checksum the parition and I cant restore factory, both crash with freeze.
There is cyanogen mod on it and I'm able to boot it on boot menu:
Code:
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.08.04.30_M3
eMMC-boot
Sep 8 2010,15:56:38
If I plug USB its saying FASTBOOT USB.
So I should be able to use adb to push an image.
So ... my question is how do I push the image and which image should I push?
Best Regards,
Ruben
If they will fix it for free just brick the whole damn thing so it won't turn on, make sure a non booting phone is covered first!

sync
reboot
Now your phone won't even boot
If you want though you can just flash stock recovery via fastboot

Not really, if you say hey it slowly stopped turning on and then one day nothing then what do they say, there is no proof of failure. Many people seem to do this when they need a warranty and can't get back tgo stock.

sorry, but still not getting it :/
Which commands do I need now exactly for fastboot?
There is now adb access in bootloader, not even in fastboot mode, hence nothing to type in there (as to brick phone)
You will need to boot into recovery or have a working operating system to use adb, that's similar to fastboot.
You don't have an os so you need to boot to recovery and open cmd, then type the command I posted earlier

You don't have an os so you need to boot to recovery and open cmd, then type the command I posted earlier

Yeah you are showing all the signs of a fried emmc, so you couldn't return to stock even if you wanted to as your chip has lost read/write cappabilities.
To completley brick try and flash either an incompatable hboot or radio or do a battery pull during the flash, may need to do it a few times to work

I'll try this, thanks!
Hi guys, I had My HTC one verizon working on CM11 smoothly.
Then cyanogenmod sent out a new update and after reboot, My phone was stuck in the blue circle boot screen.
I can't get adb to recognize my device to push a ROM to the phone for recovery. And from what i understand there is no other way to push a zip to the phone.
Fastboot doesn't flash the zip.
EDIT: For future reference: Find the RUU from this page: Guru flash it via fastboot. It will return phone to stock.
Ignore the rest
I wiped all caches, factory reset, wiped dalvik, and did everthing i could, but after hours of trying I haven't accomplished anything.
I can get into recover (i'm using clockworkmod). Bootloader is unlocked, s-off, rooted.... Don't know what else to say
I can't enable debug mode since I can't even boot, and from what I understand that's why adb won't work... But that doesn't make sense since i don't have a system on it. (i wiped everything)
Do you have a nandroid you can restore?

No i do not. I just went over from the stock sense 5, to cm11.
Once i saw everything working i deleted all backups of any type...
Then forgot to back up before updating to the nightly.
So no, no nandroid.
Do you have fastboot working? If so, I would suggest an ruu.

Fastboot working.
Explain please.
I saw RUU phrase used in multiple places but can't figure out what it fully means.

Go to the ruu thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437436, grab the ruu. Go into fastboot, type fastboot oem rebootRUU...(search before you do though...I'm not100% on phrasing of commands), then when it boots to a black HTC, fastboot flash zip name.zip.
Please search before you do this though...I don't want to give you bad commands. But this should point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Alright, I will look into this once I get home! I was thinking it was something very difficult and time consuming... Didn't realize it could be so simple.
I'll research it. Let you know how it goes!

I downloaded the 1.1gb RUU, and installed now I'm back to stock, and will go back to cm11. Working!

Glad I could help. The lesson of today's story is to always keep at least one nandroid. ?

so, someone is selling a bricked or possibly soft bricked phone, the dude said that he was trying to unroot it and some how while he was s-on he ended up deleting the os. he says it boots to the bootloader and everything and he says that while he tries to sideload something it fails... is the phone bricked for good? or there's hope?
thanks in advance!

Collect some more answers prior to buying. But I would say as long as the display comes up and bootloader shows there is hope.
Fails while sideloading sometimes doesn't mean anything, as he has to sideload a ROM.zip while a backup would fail.

What other questions you think should be asked in order to assess the situation better? I am not a m8 guy so I'm kind of lost I just asked the basic does it still goes to boot loader because I know that's a sign that the phone might not be completely ****ed hp

I just wanted to say that maybe I'm wrong and some others should confirm what I'm saying .
But from what I learned you could re-flash TWRP in this state and first flash a custom ROM such as ViperOne using adb sideload to get it up and running. From this point one could then revert to stock using the correct backup.
Would be interesting if the
fastboot getvar all
command comes up with the version-main and which cid and mid this One M8 has.

He can run fastboot getvar all in the boot loader ?

If he is in bootloader and connects the phone to pc he can run this command using cmd on his pc as long as he has adb/fastboot driver installed on his pc.

Ask him to buy a sdcard and put a ROM.zip on it then put it in his M8.
Then boot to recovery to install ROM (he deleted his OS so I believe the custom recovery still there)

I'm gonna ask him if he can get into the recovery and see if he has a custom one. Because if he does I'm sure I could just put a SD in there and get a nice m8 for about 220.
Edit: he says he doesn't think so and supposedly tried installing one and wouldn't work.

Ask him whether he installed a GPE ROM before ... I've seen many have problem when trying to unroot or back to Sense from a GPE.
Get the fastboot getvar all info from him. If his device is on bootloader/fastboot then he should be able to run this command. If he can have this info, then it just a soft brick.
Gotta go now ...

He doesn't know how to do "fastboot getvar all" then how can he said he was unable to install a recovery ?
I still believe, nothing is wrong with his M8, other than OS was deleted with a custom recovery ... a simple fix by placing a ROM.zip on external sdcard will fix it.
Can he get a screenshot/a pic of the bootloader ?

he says a friend is the one that helped him with all that, i think what im going to do is drive up there with a laptop and try to see if i can get the command through. so as long as i get fastboot getvar all i should be good to go.
by the sounds of it, he doesnt have a custom recovery, he says they tried installing it and failed, also he said something about uploading a rom (sideload i think?) and also failed. well see when i get my hands on it probably this Monday.

That maybe the best. Get a look on it yourself. I don't think there's something wrong with it too.
Just a little bit work to be done to set it uo again.
