Random Touch on the Screen. - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I do not know whether this counts as ghost touch or not, but randomly there is a persistent touch on the bottom right corner of my Zenfone 2, ZE551ML. If i Lock the device and unlock it back again, (Through the power button), the issue goes away. It re appears after a while again.
I saw videos of people facing such issues on youtube, but in their cases, the entire touch automatically starts to act up. whereas in my case, this happens only if i start using the phone. And that too on the same area ( Bottom Right, Just over the Recents Button)
I wiped the screen / Scratch guard thoroughly. I even changed my scratch guard. but still the issue stays.
Im on Stock 183 (Not yet updated to 184).
Is this a hardware issue or a software one?
(My warranty just ended yesterday).
I feel this is software, because the touch works normally if i lock the device and then unlock it back.
Just for the record, my device passed the SMMI touch and multi touch test without issues.
Also i enabled the graph option under developer options. And i do not see any touch being registered under normal course.
But then when all the tools are off, randomly the issue just pops up again.
Does anyone have such issues?
Does CM or other Non-stock ROM solve this??

I actually a similar issue a month ago, which I thought was a software thing (completely wiped my phone, then installed latest XOSP) or me losing my mind, and it turns out it was neither.
It came back yesterday, and I learned that there's entirely a chance that the screen connectors are loose. Simply remove the back panel (the one with the screws, you'll need one of those eyeglass-repair screwdrivers) and press down on the connectors to make sure they're 100% snapped in and the issue should stop!
Also, see if Glove mode fixes it, since I know that works for a lot of people.

I had the problem. I just removed back cover and plugged a bit more the connectors that you can see when removing battery cover.
Its been 3 months without the problem.

Okay so
My issue is because of my flip cover.
I knew this wasn't hardware, coz the issue was only on one small area of the screen.
I did the following:
When there was ghost random touch.
I immediately removed my flip cover, and the issue went off
Did It twice, both times, it worked.
Thanks anyways.

[Q] Advice on unlock/digitiser issue

Hi
I upgraded to my new DHD less than 3 weeks ago. It is not rooted and I did the recent OTA update over Christmas.
Over the last couple of days I have started to experience difficulty unlocking the device on the slide-to-unlock screen. The problem seems intermittent - somethimes it will unlock fine, and other times the slider just seems to "get stuck" at the bottom of the screen.
At first I thought this a bug or something, but after some investigation I am concerned there is a problem with the digitiser. I opened a picture and zoomed in to fill the screen and tested the touchscreen in different places by sliding the picture around. What I found was that the bottom 1cm of the screen above the keys does not respond properly to Up and Down swipes. It is fine however with side-to-side and also individual taps. This is obviously a problem when trying to move the unlock slider!
I've had a screen protector on for about a week - I don't imagine this has caused the issue but haven't removed it to test as yet as I don't have a spare. Aside from this, the device has been very well looked after, definitely no bumps etc and kept in an HTC leather pouch.
Any ideas? Should I return it to CW?
Thanks
OK, I seem to have resolved this for the time being but expect the problem to return.
I downloaded a screen test app that allows you to draw on the screen and got some very strange results. A 1cm band of screen about 1cm up from the bottom was completely unresponsive. Trying to draw a horizontal line within this band would result in lines being drawn either above or below it, or strange vertical lines "jumping" around. The rest of the screen was fine. I realised this is why I have been struggling to close the keyboard - the button is placed within this band and trying to press it would result in on of the buttons above or below being pressed. Also have had problems with the sapce bar.
I did a restart (not fast) and this has resolved the issue, however I expect it may return as I did a restart only yesterday.
At least it is obviously software and not the digitiser....
Hi again. As expected, the issue returned after a couple of hours. This time however, restarting is not making a difference.
I resorted to a hard rest, which has not changed anything either.
Any help/ideas would really be appreciated...
Best to return it for repairs or exchange. Seems like the digitiser is faulty.

I agree, this definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

CDMA galaxy nexus - unresponsive to touch

Hello everyone,
Basically went to unlock my phone today and touch screen is not responding, however the hardware buttons work fine. Now i've done some research and found other posts of people with the same problem, however their touchscreen problems seem to be fixed(temporarily, at least) with a battery pull.. mine however is still unresponsive after half a day and multiple battery pulls.
Id rather not have to send in for certified to replace an otherwise perfectly working phone.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

are u undervolting?
Nope, sorry forgot to say. Completely stock never unlocked or rooted.
Also i tried getting into recovery to try and do a factory reset but when i select recovery i just get the android on his back with the red triangle..
so instead i just went through the steps and unlocked the bootloader and booted up (in order to give me the factory reset without having to touch the screen)
It unlocked and booted up fine but still no response..
No new recent app installed and never had this happen before.
Mine did this after a few days of owning it, and luckily the store took it back and swapped it out with a perfectly working unit. Is yours within a few weeks of purchase?
Figured this out randomly. Remove battery cover. With phone turned on, press on the area to the to the left of the camera lens until the screen is responsive. My screen becomes unresponsive when the phone is dropped and this fixes it.

hrmm this does not seem to fix either. I also have never dropped my phone, although this seems to be worrisome if the issue is hardware related.
@ tmellen i purchased the phone from amazon and am a few days past my return date :-/
Guess ill just give them a call and hope for the best. Thanks for the ideas everyone.
(update) called amazon and they are sending me a brand new phone.
Knowing this i thought i'd try dailong's method again only this time i was quite a bit more "rough" with pressing down on that area, and it actually worked!
Ill still be taking the new phone once it gets here but for anyone who is having this problem there's a sweet spot on the left edge of the phone towards the top (looking at it with the back cover off) there should be a circle shape. press on that area really hard and it should fix.. weird
Experienced the same on my GSM version a few minutes ago. I had to call my mobile to get it to respond. After that it worked again as normal. I'll see if I get this issue again in the next few days. Hope it's just random
Had the same happen earlier to mine and I was on AOKP. I've had this happen to other phone before, shouldn't be a a cause for alarm unless it happens very frequently. Btw, next time it happens to me I'll give that left side of the camera trick a try.
mine got fixed by removing battery.

Strip of touchscren not working

Hi guys. I know many of you have had touchscreen problems and whatnot, i searched but it seems like this one is a bit different from usual. Yesterday the phone was totally fine; i woke up this morning and it had a lot of touchscreen problems: at first it registered touches without me doing anything, but after a couple of reboots it was just unresponsive. After another reboot and some messagging, the problem reduced to a strip on the screen simply not working. The strip is located exactly where the first notification on the status bar is (like when you receive a message and you click on that notification). I have the trueancestor stats bar buttons, so that zone is a tad more down than usual. Anyway, all I did yesterday was a quick game. I think it may be the flex cable not working because of the sliding, but it happened all of a sudden, not gradually. I must say that some weeks ago I had the same "registers touches by itself" issue when typing, but a simple reboot was enough. I tried doing factory reset, but nothing so far. Also I can't use pc companion to flash everything stock back (I unlocked bootloader months ago, even though I relocked it; I dunno if it's locked or not right now), and I can't seem to find a working flashtool download link -_-. I don't think that would help much, it probably is a hardware problem, but who knows. I'm on true ancestor 1.6 LE, stock kernel.
Any help would be great, as I fear the phone will get refused in assistance because of bootloader unlocking.
Did your phone had contact with water? When my screen had contact with water it registered touches randomly.
it didn't. it has a screen protector anyway; but that's not the problem for sure. it doesn't register randomly, simply a strip doesn't work now...
Hardware problem. Could be flex cable or digitizer.
Today there were two moments it began to work again, but a few minutes after each one the problem came back. Sigh...
Mine does that when the screen is moist or my hands are too oily. Are you sure you're working in a dry environment?
mhh... exactly that? I dunno, my hands are dry and i think the screen is too; it has a quite thick screen protector (the skinomi one), so even if it got moist that shouldn't be a problem, right? I'm now living in a different town and that may have changed something, but the problem didn't show up until now, and it was sudden.
Also, I noticed that using gamekeyboard on a certain profile I had buttons placed on the strip, and pressing hardware keys mapped to those buttons actually works. This restricts the problem just to the actual finger-touch-detecting mechanism. Does anyone know anything about this?
Edit: lol I heated the phone up a bit with a hair dryer. It works now. I hope it will last and I'll not have to do this again over and over

Digitizer Problem

So, initially I began having problems with "ghost touching", then, portions of my screen became unresponsive to touch in addition to the "ghost touching". I did the line drawing test multiple times. At times, it showed a dead space to the right (vertically only, horizontal was ok), other times, it was working fine. I was so focused on checking the right side of the screen, I didn't check the bottom. When I did, it showed an unresponsive area at the bottom as well. Almost as if the screen was off kilter. I did a factory reset through the normal phone menu and from TWRP and the ghost touching has seemed to resolve itself, however, the unresponsive screen is getting worse. Now a full 1/3 of the screen on the right is intermittently unresponsive.
I am hoping there is something I can flash on this phone that might assist the digitizer if it is software related. If not, could it be that the cable is not grounded properly or has possibly become partly unplugged? I know what a pain this phone is to take apart because I had to take my first M8 apart when I accidentally gave it a ride home in a cup of tea. (really tired after working one night, forgot the cup was in the cup holder). Turns out they really don't like that. My current M8 I bought from a private seller, so I have no warranty, no insurance and extremely limited funds at the moment for handling this problem. I've had this replacement phone for several months, so I know the phone wasn't defective when I got it.
I am rooted, running stock ROM, stock kernel and TWRP Recovery v2.7.0.2
Thank you in advance for any help.

LG G3 D855 Screen Goes Black On ROM and Recovery

So this happened last August and still no luck to this day. What happened was I saw an update for Fulmics ROM which was at version 6.0 at the time and I was still running the previous version so I updated it and the installation was successful until the screen went black while I was browsing the net. At first I figured a clean install would solve things but the problem persisted up to this day. I tried other ROMs (both AOSP and Stock) and had no luck on either. There are some days when things seem to be working fine but then the screen just turns black on its own. I was able to download some apps and even use it for a time but the screen will just go black all of a sudden. I tried wiping the storage (internal and external) and still it goes black. I tried backing up the current "working" ROM I have which is an AOSP one but then during the backup the screen went black and the file is probably corrupted at this point. I also feel that even when it "turned off" there's still power in the phone since the battery becomes drained of its charge over time. I tried replacing the battery with a new one but it didn't solve things for me. Additionally, I encountered a weird part of the recovery wherein there's an orange background and white text which really surprised me like pressing detonate. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like you may be experiencing the lcd flickering/fading/dying issue some other users have experienced. It is a problem with the main board/connectors, and not the LCD itself. You can try an easy fix, but it may not be a permanent fix.
You'll need to take the back cover off of your phone and put some folded up tape or a label of some sort - something with a little thickness to it - on the rear camera connector; you can also put some on the front camera connector and the metal can that covers the processor chip, but the rear camera connector is the most important spot. Here's a pic with the spots labeled for you.
View attachment 3896177
What you are looking to do is put enough - but not too much - tape on those spots to add a little pressure to the board when the rear cover goes back on & it is screwed back together. I've done this fix on a friend's phone and it has worked well, although I ended up having to do it again about 4-5 months later.
*Follow this G3 teardown guide to step 7, carefully/gently re-seat the connectors once for good measure(optional), and then put your tape on... https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/LG+G3+Screen+Replacement/33203
**Remember that when you put your back cover on and screws in that there is one shorter screw - it is labeled in step 4 of the teardown.

I followed the instructions by adding some paper/tape to the labelled areas. However, the phone now won't turn on. The last time I was able to boot it up was yesterday and it only went so far as the LG logo. The logo seemed off and broken, white lines were all over the place. I tried going to recovery but the phone just died afterwards. I tried charging it and the screen remained black but the phone gets warm specifically around the power button/volume rocker area. I was able to boot it up now and I managed to successfully install a ROM but the screen still goes black and then boot up again but I wasn't able to use the ROM. I tried entering recovery and sometimes, booting up the recovery is a success other times the screen will just go black before entering the recovery. I'm using TWRP 3.0.2 and when I tried to wipe/flash some ZIPs or just tweak some of the settings the phone will just freeze and vibrate so much to the point that the only way to stop it from vibrating is by removing the battery. What seems to be the problem in my phone? Is my phone bricked in any way?
