Hi guys,
Rooting the 10 is a pain compared to the 6p -.-
Anyway, I would like to root my 10 but I'm not on the latest firmware (1.30.401.1) and there is no updates. My cid is J_15.
My question is can I update via the RUU i found here http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html ?
Thanks

That cid looks incomplete. usually they are 8 characters.
What is your stock software number?
If it's not 1.21.617.3 then you can't use that RUU.

Thx for the quick reply.
Edit:
My phone is unlocked and I couldn't find any info that tells which CIDs work with the RUU.
my build software number is 1.30.401.1
I really dont want to root, flash stock recovery, install ota, root again. what a hassle

Reboot to download mode. your cid and mid are listed there.

The 1.30.401.1 RUU is listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
I'm really confused about a few things:
1) in your op you said you were not on the latest firmware, then when I asked for your software number you listed the latest firmware (1.30.401.1)
2) what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
3) please provide the CID/MID and OS number from download mode

HI
first thanks for taking the time to help me i really appreciate it
i have an htc m8 ,m8_ul, , s-on ,unlocked bootloader, cid htc_621 , hboot 3.19 , radio 1.22
device currenly bricked but can access booloader and recovery (used to have a 5.0 rom)
i want to upgrade to latest lollipop version can i do that with s-on?
how can i do it?
thanks in advance guys
help much appreciated
by latest lollipop i would assume sense6 and not cm12.
I have installed cm12 on my m8 for a few month now. Getting the latest ATT update has been a pain so far as I cannot downgrade to kitkat.
if you are on a kitkat version then go to setting -> about -> check for updates and you are good to go. just make sure to use wifi.
yes i want sense 6
So i will restore the stock backup
flash stock recovery
Relock bootloader then get ota?
But with my cid will i get the latest updates?
anyone?

Mostly correct, but you don't need to relock the bootloader (nor do I recommend you do so).
You'll get the latest OTA for your CID. I am not clear what you mean by "latest updates". If you intend is to be on the stock ROM for your CID, you don't want a more recent update for another carrier.

Do you have unlocked bootloader? If you have, just install adb and fastboot drivers, then plug m8 into pc and enter fastboot mode. Watch from 2:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HWj_1KHbuY and do the same
after you do all that, just put some rom into sdcard or usb, and flash it.

You can't find the proper RUU? Did you try to run an RUU not meant for your device? You should just get errors and the process should halt.
What does it say next to "OS" in your bootloader menu? That will tell you your current firmware version. Does it have two different versions with the newer one in red? If so you need to run the RUU again. The first run just updated the hboot.
There's nothing on the os.

Post the results of fastboot getvar all. Edit out your IMEI and serial# from it first. That is private information you should never post on a public forum.

Hboot 3.19
Version-main blank (of course same as OS in bootloader) You need to update your recovery @fitsuhaimi

Go to @ckpv5's thread. Link here.
You'll need the backup that is 4.24.709.2 (judging from your baseband you are on Lollipop). The 709 part is crucial! That is for your version of M8 and you can't flash a backup (or RUU, or firmware) made for other versions.
Can you tech me step by step what i should do.
im not that good at this kinda thing but im really interested in learning. And also it can save my phone.

First thing you need to do is update your recovery to TWRP 2.8.7.0.
Then go to the thread I linked you to, and follow the instructions in post #1 (skip the first step~update recovery). You'll need the 4.24.709.2 backup that is in post #3.
You can stop at step 9. You just need the ROM backup and not the stock recovery. After step 9 just reboot.

You need one for your carrier, or more specifically the version that matches your current firmware and your CID/MID
---------- Post added at 11:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------
You can find your CID and MID in your bootloader menu. Your current firmware version is also listed there under "OS"
EDIT: on the M8 the MID won't be there, but your CID and firmware version will be. That is all you need
I have HTC 10 S-OFF UNLOCKED. still getting Signature error 132 when installer other stock ruu. I guess it doesn't make any different ruu version once it is S-OFF and unlocked. But is the problem. My current firmware is 2.42.651.66
Can only run RUU for your cid, mid.
It's not T-Mobile. 651 is Sprint

No OTA, RUU has signature error 132
I have an HTC 10 unlocked, formerly rooted- but after getting tired of missing all the OTAs and not being able to use Android Pay, I installed Android 7 RUU and re-locked bootloader.
I think I received one OTA like this (not sure if it was relocked or not) back in Oct 17. Since then, nothing. No OREO OTA either. I thought... maybe because I've re-locked? So I sacrificed hours of irrecoverable customization and unlocked (which does a factory reset). And no, google backup or helium or any of those others are all POS- no backup is possible that would make this better, w/o rooting + Titanium, which means no Android Pay of course. I digress.
Still, no OTA. WTF I say... so I figure I've paid the price of the reset already, might as well just RUU Oreo on it. Signature error 132?? What the !#[email protected]&@%^@?
In all my years of custom roms on phones, I've never been stuck where an RUU can't pull me out. What gives? It says it's for the HTC 10 unlocked, which I have.
Perplexed, frustrated, and wishing Windows phone still existed, because I'd rightly consider it.
same same
having same error 132 when trying to update to Oreo with RUU.
bootloader relocked, run RUU as administrator, correct HTC drivers installed but still error 132.
any help would be much appreciated.

Without s-off you cant downgrade firmwares, not sure what that specific user is about but he is not flashing full ruu files or firmwares. Those will fail 100%
And there is no 4.41.401 firmware number. The last nougat firmware is 2.41.401.4
It could be a typo.
I'm going to give it a try tonight and provide a feedback.
Thank you all.

But you didn't flash a lower firmware or ruu than the firmware that's on the device already ? Because that's impossible with s-on. You can only downgrade firmware with s-off.
Did you install a lower stock backup?
I believe I'm doing something wrong which is why nothing worked for me. This is too much to do for a simple roll back and i don't blame you guys for it.
Remember the old days when all you had to do to install a ROM is root and place the ROM into a micro SD card.

I actually already assumed it would not work because you can't downgrade firmware on s-on devices. That specific post is in many ways impossible. Or he has a s-off device and wrote it wrong or he is just making stuff up.

Yeah, folks always believe downgrading will only work on S-OFF devices...
But don't say "IMPOSSIBLE" before you try, the downgrade method I've test on HTC M9 A9 10 U11 and it work well, I even wrote a program to help to erase version number in an easiest way.
