Return to HTC - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

So Its been a long time since I used a HTC devices such as HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Amaze & HTC Evo 4GLTE phones. Switched to Samsung for the Note 2 and haven't used another device besides samsung for a while now. Used to odin and all that jazz, I do recall the days of getting unlocked bootloader token from HTC dev, s-off and installing roms. If my memory recalls I do recall in order go back to stock I had to flash it via RUU file i think.
So after samsung burned the dev community of locked bootlader for S7 on Tmobile I abanden samsung and had high hopes that T-Mobile would release HTC 10 so I could move to it. Luckily enough they did and I just mine today so im like super stoked to get back into HTC groove. So my question is before rooting and all that fun stuff I did read all the FAQs and guides, but something is kind of unlcear for me at the moment.
I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
So my question which file do I use for my stock in case I need to return to stock for any reason?
any help would be much appreciated

Welcome back to HTC, the 10 is a great phone to make your move from Samsung to. With regards to your question, it all depends on your CID, MID and firmware version.
Find out what you have and match them up to what's available on that thread.
You should make a back up of your own too.

[Q] un root HTC Desire.

First off, Yes I have searched more than this site for an answer to the point where my handset would not do anything but go into the recovery menu.
What I want to do is put stock HTC Android on my Desire.
Currently it is rooted but has to be un rooted to go onto works E Mail server.
The handset is a GSM HTC Desire (Bravo)
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP 2-ON
HBOOT-093.0001
CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY v2.5.0.7
I have tried several RUU's only to be told of a boot loader error.
Can some one please tell me how this is done?
I asked my network and they could not help so unless some one can help me im going to have to ask HTC.
THANKS in advance
RICK
Hi,
Is your phone branded?
If so to get it to stock u need your operatorĀ“s RUU, or a gold card to run the HTC one.
not branded try the last WWE launched to Europe u can find it here : http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
Wrong forum, it should go in Q&A
1. Wrong forum... You even mark your title as a question. Then why not put it in the question section, as it is clearly not development?
2. You problem is, that you have to choose a ruu with hboot version 0.93 or above(as for now i think 0.93 is highest). You cannot downgrade hboot officially! So chose the latest one released, and if your phone is branded, you need to be lucky and find the branded rom or you'll have to use a goldcard.
3. Being able to log onto your firms email server has nothing to do with rooting i promise you. There is no difference in the way it would log on. That is only managed by the app you use to log on. Unrooting will only make fixing the actual problem much more difficult, as you cannot change a thing on the system.

I would be inclined to agree with both points. Rooting will do nothing to affect your phones ability to log on to an e-mail server, the server doesn't collect any information about your phone and refuse it on the basis that it has, essentially, an 'app' called Superuser installed.

Need help with a few questions

Hi all
Need to ask a few questions as iv come from a gnex although previously having a one x for a day.
- i have the storage problem where its showing as available space 25gb
What is the easyest fix?
- is i possible to flash a none branded but stock rom to remove bloatware?
- can you relock the bootloader?
Sorry if its sceem stupid but this is the fist htc i have messed with other than unlpcking the wildfire bootloader and my 1st one x bootloader but only rooting. I am used to samsung galaxys and the gnex.

Total space available is only 25.24GB, rest is taken up by the system.
To debloat you'd need to unlock via HTC Dev and flash a custom rom.
Yes you can relock, but it'll say RELOCKED instead of LOCKED. No S-OFF at the moment so only way to unlock is via HTCDev.
So the best thing for me to do is just unlock it and root it and keep it like that or would you suggest waiting for s-off? Tbh i didnt no about the 25gb thing i would of fort if its a 32gb phone you should have 32gig if its written down, not botther to much just reaf an artical a few people mentioned it was like that

Well ideally S-OFF so we can S-ON again, and flash radios and such, but at the moment it's hard to tell whether we'll get it, could be a while still so if the need is there to flash custom roms and gain root htcdev method is the only way.
I'm contemplating this as well had my device for over a month but now eeking to try out the custom kernels and roms, don't think I can wait any longer!
The phone does have 32GB memory but only 25GB is available to the user, the rest is taken up by Sense, system and such.
Now i get it lol the 25 gig part.
Im blagged about the s-off, s-on and what ruu is im a total noob with htc like i say i has samsungs before and it was a hell of a lot easyer to understand lol.
Can i not just flash a debranded firmware as im on 3 and its just filled with crap. Tbh im scared of bricking this device as i havent got a clue with anythink htc other than unlocking and rooting

RUU is like the firmwares we use to flash via odin, they are official updates and the RUU contains the rom and the flashing utility. You'd have to wait for a three related RUU.
As your with three you have a three branded handset and will have to wait for three to release their updated versions over the air.
Now with past HTC devices devs released S-OFF this allows users to root etc then if returning back to HTC they can S-ON again to revert it back to its original state, where on the Samsung we'd just flash a stock rom and use a jig to reset the counter.
HTC don't ship with S-OFF due to security reasons etc they keep saying.
So they provide an official way of unlocking the device but this doesn't S-OFF once unlocked we can flash CWM and gain recovery and root. Then you can flash a custom firmware to get rid of your three branded firmware. Now if you were to send the phone back to HTC for a repair you'd have to flash your three branded backup. And relock the bootloader it won't say locked but rather re locked. There are certain issues with warranties and HTC could use it against you.

Right so i might aswell just wait and see i can cope with it for now but just want to flash roms. Thanks for the advice very helpfull

[Q] How Easy is it to flash internation Rom on Carrier phone?

HI,
Planning to pick up a T-Mobile M8 - don't particularly care for the stuff T-Nobile puts on phones. My old Note 2 came loaded with software etc that I didn't need, apparently, the Note 3 has all sorts of security software in addition to t-mobile goodies. Before, I used to just flash a 3rd party rom and be done with it.
Now, I have my company emails running on my phone, and the secure software refuses to be installed on "tampered" devices, rooted/jail-broken etc.
How easy or difficult is it to flash an internation sense rom on the M8 - is it even possible?. And, can it be done without needing to Root the phone?.
Riz
Anyone?.
Found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356401 for another HTC phone
I got tired of waiting for AT&T to release updates for the HTC One and now that we have S-OFF and SuperCID I decided to look into converting my HTC One into an International edition so that I can flash an international ROM and receive OTAs more rapidly.
I would love to flash ARHD, Trickdroid and etc, however I use my phone for work and our security software will detect if the phone is rooted or has a modified OS installed so I needed to stick to stock in order to pass all security checks.

Is there any similar way for the M8?.
Thanks.
Riz
Grab a stock nandroid for the international version and a stock recovery for it. Restore the nandroid and flash the stock recovery and reboot. You can change your cid to the International cid or super cid. The ota will work either way.
There's a thread with stock backups in the general section

Thanks for the reply exad.
Would flashing the recovery in any way make the phone appear tampered ?.
MobileIron, the corporate email tool we use is quite finicky - I had to give up my Note 3 as it had been rooted (and had the Knox counter tripped), even flashing it back to stock and unrooting didn't make it fit for mobileiron - so I'm a bit wary of making the m8 unfit as well.
Also, how do we flash nandroids and recoveries in the htc world?..I've spent far too long with Samsung's and not sure how things work on htcs..
Riz
You need to bootloader unlock so yes your bootloader will show it has been tampered. There is a way to hide this with S-off if your phone can achieve s-off. But that doesn't mean your software will necessarily work properly.
I've never owned a Samsung device but it must be quite different as it is my experience on these forums that people who claim to have rooted Samsung phones in the past seem to have no idea what recovery, kernel, adb, fastboot are or even what superuser entails.
I could explain everything to you but I'm not that nice. Everything is explained in the m8 forums if you read all stickies in all sections and actually try to understand the concepts rather than just start following guides blindly, you'll do just fine.

Get the ota from 2x to 3.35 and flash?
Although tried this and security failed
My other option grab an ruu?

In all honesty s-off is the best option but if you have a few hours go take a read through flippy's thread in the general section to get back to stock for the ota. Flippy will gladly assist you if you ask him nicely.
It is complicated, long winded and not really user friendly (htc in general) where as s-off via sunshine and flash an unsigned zip is easier but more expensive.
Beg, steal, borrow or kill for those 25 american pesos..

S-On and SuperCID... what in the how?

Hello there, guys.
I am getting into this whole "Android" thing and realizing it is fun and sometimes complex. A co-worker bought an unlocked HTC One M9 at the beginning of the year, and it came with Android 5.1.1 - the firmware was 2.11.531.19, which belongs to T-Mobile. There was no way to update it OTA, but she was happy so that was it.
Now, having finally been able to update an AT&T Note 5 withough being in the US, I thought the process would be somewhat similar with the M9. Knowing it was a T-Mobile device - the 531 in the firmware is T-Mobile's SKU - I downloaded the RUU from HTC with version 3.39.531.41
No go. Not only did it fail, it left the device in a somewhat bricked state. I tried downloading different RUU's, tried getting the rom.zip in a SD card, but it all failed. Then, just for kicks, I downloaded the RUU for the Unlocked/Developer version, which is 3.35.617.31 BAM! It worked without a problem.
Being curious, I used ADB to look what the CID/MID values were for the device, and found something funny. The MID is 0PJA11000, which I believe belongs to Dev/Unlocked/AT&T, but the CID is set to 11111111 (SuperCID). Whut!
I also see the product is "htc_himaulatt", which I guess means this was an AT&T device... that had a T-Mobile SKU installed? The device is S-ON, by the way.
What does this mean for future updates? Should I/she continue to use the RUU for the Unlocked/Developer devices? Should I set her device to S-OFF? Also, she received an OTA notification for version 4.x.xxx.xx that incloudes Nougat, but upon download it said that the devices software had been modified and it couldn't install that update.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

I would say leave it as is, if you change the cid to the appropriate one for the developer edition(BS_US001), the otas wont fail.

But in order to change the cid I need to have S-Off which in turn needs the device to be rooted, or am I wrong?
