For all you whatsapp users, do you notice any lag when using the app itself? Whether it be switching between conversations or just loading the app in general? The biggest issue I see is typing to people, it lags really bad and is quite annoying. I've tried several roms / using a clean whatsapp installation but they all did the same thing.
Nope. No lag on 4.0.4. If you want lag (when opening, that is) try the WP7 client.
Be thankful.
Hmm what rom are you running? Did you change any specific settings?
i have a stock galaxy nexus (international GSM) and its also very laggy. especially when typing on the keyboard the keys can't keep up, its pretty annoying and would love to know if there is a fix for this.
imo also lags when typing.
running 4.0.4
Solution.

Did U in Stock Rom or Custom ??
please give any specification detail.. for ur Q..
i don't know if this is related but i had a similar problem on my Nexus One. What happened was Whatsapp's data was getting too big. I had to clear the data and lose all my current chats, but this fixed the unresponsiveness.
No problems so far with my Galaxy Nexus.
When you clear all your chats do you get removed from your group messages as well?

i have the same typing issue/laggs with my Stock 4.1.2 nexus here. Do you found any solutions ?
The laggs starting when i send more then 4 or 5 messages one after another, very annoying -.-
(newes Whatsapp version is installed)
Not for me, at all.
Have you tried turning on forced GPU rendering in developer options? I know it at leat helps making the scrolling smoother in WhatsApp.
Hey,
I'm having some keyboard lag input on my Galaxy Nexus running Jellybean... I noticed it in applications like facebook messenger (sometimes) and whatsapp.
I find this very annoying and would like to know if anyone got the same issues or even ideas to fix it?
I had this problem on ICS, too.
You could be running a bunch of background **** that lags other apps. I have a pretty clean Nexus with next to nothing running in the background and I have no keyboard lag.

Yes, i have the same lag issues, so much for proyect butter, now the keyboard lags even more than on ics , i use whatsapp a lot and the lag is quite noticeable
The first thing I noticed about my GNex (coming from a Droid X) was how lag-free the Keyboard seemed.
I was super impressed.
The first thing I noticed on JellyBean was that my keyboard seemed a bit laggy despite all of the smoothness in every other UI element.
Maybe once source hits it'll have been improved.
Keep in mind...we're using a "preview" build currently.

As I said I am running Android 4.1 Jellybean, on ICS I just got these lags from time to time...
It's very annoying typing with such a keyboard, sometimes it doesn't respond to keypresses what means that it skips letters n' ****..
I haven't noticed a lag...
No lag as such on mine, but for some reason I find myself mistyping more frequent and hitting shift and delete rather then 'a' and 'l'. Probably just me though...

This is a little off topic, both does facebook messenger work as expected in jellybean? For me there are no messenger notifications since I installed jellybean. I have to manually check if there are new messages.
As per the keyboard lag, try a different keyboard. I use Swiftkey 3 and I'm very happy with it.
Try going to settings/ language and input settings/ Android keyboard settings/ advanced settings and uncheck next word prediction. I remember I lagged A LOT and it seemed I was hitting random keys. Idk if this is related but I restored all my apps and data and the lag was horrible even throughout the entire system so I did a full wipe and only restored apps with NO data. Haven't had a single issue since.

Using German keyboard, sorry. But why don't you try to save "don't" to your dictionary?
Yep, getting TONS of Whatsapp lag. While scrolling, even the keyboard.
Getting a lot of lag but as soon as i turned off vibration when keys are pressed in the input settings it stopped majority of it but now its sometimes mistyping
Same here, but mostly limited to Whatsapp + Swiftkey 3 combination and only in landscape mode.
Swiftkey 3 works perfectly with no lag at all in all applications included whatsapp when used in portrait mode.
The same with the standard android keyboard.
In landscape mode, I can write SMS and other stuff (Facebook messenger etc) with Swiftkey 3 with no lag (at least at my writing speed I am experiencing no delay).
When writing with WHATSAPP and Swiftkey it is a disaster... after a sentence i have to wait half a second for the last word to show up after having typed it!
Things seem a bit better with whatsapp + android keyboard in landscape but still a bit laggy.
It seems tome it is mostly a whatsapp problem after all.

That's bothering me too. Im on 125 also, using stock android keyboard, i think it's from Kitkat. I have no idea what is causing it exactly, it's pretty much random. I also put the keyboard in "performance mode", but still lags.

I somehow found a temporary fix.. I disable the 'Vibrate on Keypress' in the keyboard setting. Lag is gone but feels awkward as I'm used to its vibrate in every keypress.
Hm, i will try it too, but i really got used to a short 5-6 ms buzz when i type. I think its most likely to lag when im typing in facebook "chat head" over chrome or over facebook. Although, i have researched this before and found a fix somewhere, not xda but maybe android authority and it was something with an option in the developer options, which had something to do with the video drawing. Not sure, and can't find it again.
Yes, I had the lag, too. ... It's the bug, which makes every stock-firmware unusable !
I write very fast with my phones, and even on a 800mhz qualcom there is no lag.
Btw. use Omnirom, or Cm or Pacman ... there is no typing-lag
Has anyone found a workaround? I'm using a P7 but it has anyway the same problem. The lag is really random, sometimes the phone is smooth as butter, sometimes it takes ages to write a word due to the abyssal lag.
How are people finding SwiftKey on the G3? I am seeing two persistent issues
1) G3 will periodically revert to Google Keyboard necessitating the re-selection of SwiftKey. This was happening a couple of times again till I froze the Google Keyboard.
2) There is a consistent lag when Swiftkey is getting loaded. You click on a text field and half a second later the keyboard comes up. I don't see this with the LG or Google keyboards.
Swiftkey is so much better than the alternatives I hope they fix this soon. Must have something to do with the screen res.
Haven't noticed any lag myself tbh.
Not had the switching keyboard thing either although I have in the past

I read on twitter that the LG G3 keyboard will be having an update within the month. Among the improvements will be next word prediction and emoticon prediction. Perhaps, after this update, the G3 keyboard will be on par (or close to) the functionality of swiftkey

Don't think so. While others approach Swiftkey in terms of functionality and prediction algorithms in English, Swiftkey is nearly as amazing in other languages, including those of small countries with population less than Manhattan. How they do it I don't know, but it is a fact.

@lguK announced it (the official UK LG account) not sure if other LG accounts also announced it.
Are you running on ART? Have you tried restarting your phone or reinstalling swiftkey?
I use swiftkey and one of the best things about is is that I can change the long press time to about 200ms. It's way too long on stock keyboards and this makes getting to some symbols and limited number usage faster than having to switch from letters all the time.

I am on ART and I don't have either of the problems. I have Swiftkey lag on my wife's Moto G.
Swiftkey on Dalvik - lag
Swiftkey on ART - no lag
I'm back to Dalvik because I wanted Xposed
One thing I did that helped a bit is go to settings - Languages and the first option Language - I unchecked Spelling correction which seems to have helped quite a bit in the lag department.
I got lags since they launched the Swiftkey 5 version, even on ART/Dalvik in my Moto G.
It's toooo slow and there are lots of annoying lags.
I've been using Swiftkey since 2013, and I never had any problems like that.
They already said is working to solve this issues.
SwiftKey was lagging on my Moto G as well. In both Dalvik and ART. Too heavy it was I think, but I was using it anyway.

Yes I did reinstall, problem still there. The only fix I have seen is to freeze the LG keyboard which seems to be the culprit wanting to insert itself back

I never noticed this before on the HTC One X. Maybe because the phone as a whole was less responsive because this is par for the course. You are right, I have grown so used to SwiftKey that I just put up with these things and keep using it.
I keep accidentally hitting up or down instead of space and it's driving my writing insane. That sucks.
Im also inadvertently collapsing predictions possibly, or the phone is. Haven't figured that out yet.

Except that SwiftKey is not LG exclusive and has over 3 years of my writing history. It knows what I'm saying before I do. Nothing will replace it for a long time to come. Until voice dictation is perfected.

Anyone getting alot of lag when sending hangouts messages?
On both the LG G3 and this phone.
I have not received any lag at all with hangouts or the default messaging app on the note 4. I am however having issues adding widgets on the homescreens and keeping apps in my folders in the app drawer after reboots. beautiful widgets and hd widgets and widgetsoid widgets all act as if they were added to the homescreen but then when you get to the homescreen, they aren't there. I know the apps coming out of the folders in the app drawer were a problems on most other samsung phones after the first boot, but mine is happening after every single boot.
As for sending messages, i havent had any lag at all. If anything, my signal has greatly improved

weird.. wonder if it's something with the resolution.. It's not some kind of intensive activity though. It's just really janky when hitting send.. hmmm
If that was the case, then why wouldn't i have the lag issues then? Is there any other apps that are consuming your ram while on your phone? At least enough to bog it down while sending messages?
I also encountered this issue. If you downgrade to stock hangouts, there is no lag. The lag is pretty harsh ONLY when you are SENDING the message.
yup! just put my 1 star review on Google Play. hangouts is the worst. it's terrible on all samsung devices. it's practically unusable. it lags down swiftkey like crazy. the only devices hangouts works well with are nexus devices and aosp roms. it's terrible on LG, samsung and htc ui. ugh so annoying.

I completely disagree. No offense. I have used hangouts on my old htc, and all my samsung devices and have never had a problem at all. Ive used it on the s3, the rezound, s4, note 3 note 2 and now my note 4 with no issues.
Ill keep trying on my note 4 to see if i can duplicate the issues but so far it has been flawless
Do you have animations on?

Yea.. same exact experience Im having.
I even deleted my whole text database and hangouts message history to make sure that wasnt causing a problem. Tried clearing cache, data, re-installing, etc.
have sort of the same issue on my Galaxy Note 8 and my gfs Galaxy S4.. so many it doesnt like Samung for some reason. Dont have the problem on my old DROID RAZR M.
Oh well.. maybe it's something they will look into if enough people have the problem.
I get a small amount of lag right after I hit send, the paper airplane gets stuck half way thru it's animation then after a second or so it finishes it's animation and the message sends. Had this problem since the last update. Also affected my LG G3.
To whoever asked if i had animations on, i do.
I should also note that I am not running the tw launcher but nova instead until they can get the widget issue fixed. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it or not.
Some of you guys having issues be interested in trying a launcher form the play store and see if the issue still remains? Just fyi, themer is not compatible with the note 4 yet but all the others seem to work.
don't know how some people have it and some don't. i always suspected, though, that swiftkey might be a part of the culprit. swiftkey is the only keyboard i can use and type fast on, so i can't use anything else...but in hangouts it was always much slower than the stock keyboard. on my GS4 it was awful and lagged horribly. i miss google talk lol that app was perfect. never any lag. was always so quick on those low end phones..ugh!

Ok, with this new info, I am NOT using swift key. Beginning to wonder if that may be why I'm not dealing with the lag issue. It's weird that a keyboard would be lagging a messaging app though.

I've tried desperately to duplicate this issue in hopes to help resolve any problems. I have Uninstaller hangouts and downloaded from the play store just to make sure I'm running the latest version. I hate to say this, but I still have no lag whatsoever. If you're stock and lagging in hangouts, maybe uninstall and reinstall?
Sent from my SM-N910V using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
Same here, recently after thr upgrades, Google Hangouts has become worse. It does lag whike switching from text to emoji. Or as mentioned here by fellow XDA Member, that it lags while sending the message.
I could even feel the lag while typing. None other app has this issue. It has got nothing to do with what's in the background and what not. I stopped using Hangouts. Only use it to make Video calls.
Also, use any launcher. It doesn't affect it. Nova, TW, whatever. And the same goes to the keyboard too. I tried using Swiftkey, Swype, Google Keyboard, Phone's stock keyboard.
Reading some replies here, and I'm just giving my view. This lag isn't from the last update. You can say last few updates. Because before those updates, Hangouts used to work fine.
Hope there is a fix to this. I don't like downgrading applications. I better stop using them.
