On my M8 it used to be that anything that modified /system broke Android Pay. Until recently it was assumed that would still be the case, but I and many others have seen that AP still works with systemless root and custom roms (LeeDroid in my case). I'm considering some other modifications (Xposed, etc.), but I wanted to find out if there's any risk of breaking AP. Has anyone actually managed to do anything that causes AP to stop working?

No not at the moment. But on previous devices, root alone was enough.
Also just used two different cards on my phone, this is great, I can leave the house for a pint and leave my wallet at home. Great stuff.

Anything that modifies the framework will affect Android pay. Some have said they got it working with root cloak module (add Google framework and Google services) but I couldn't get it to work.

Root cloak doesn't mask SafetyNet checks, so it couldn't work.
What other mods are known to break it? I know AdAway without the "systemless" mod will.
Installed the latest Leedroid (r46) and it no longer works for me, it did on an earlier version. Not sure what changed.

Oh no, that's not good news! You might consider posting this on the LeeDroid thread. Hopefully there's something he can do about this...

Hey all, I have a Rogers NFC Sim for my S3 running the latest CM 10.1 nightly. I was looking to use the CIBC Mobile Payment App available in the Play Store here. Of course it won't appear in the Store on my device because the device identifies itself differently than a stock Rogers S3, so I grabbed the APK from here, however the app simply won't install when I open it from my file explorer.
How can I forcibly install this app? My hardware is compatible with this app so this should just be a question of using some magic to trick the APK into installing.

There's no way it HAS to be unless there is some specific dependency on TouchWiz. Whether or not it's easy or recommended is difference.

I'm trying yet again to get mobile payment working on my phone as well.
I'm simply astonished that nobody has ever found an actual way to hide rooting on a phone. I'm not a developer, but really, how hard could it possibly be? if we have root we should be able to do ANYTHING to trick an app that doesn't have root in to not knowing root is there. why hasn't anyone come up with a sandbox for these stupid apps yet???
(and don't show me links to any of the dozens of "root hiding" apps, I've never found a single app that checks for root that is fooled by any of these.)
anyone figured out a workaround yet?
Stopped being an issue ages ago for me (this thread is 3 years old). The CIBC app now works happily on many more devices, including rooted ones.

Maybe try in a thread for that device. This is the SIII thread.
I figured I would start a thread on this. NFL mobile is no longer working on rooted devices. Disabling root and hide my root are not working for me to get it working (stocked rooted md4 and moar).
Reverting does work still so here is the previous version:

Any other ideas?

Does your device show NORMAL under STATUS>DEVICE STATUS? I have TPR modded to set status back to NORMAL. NFL app just updated and still works fine.
Updated app doesn't work for me either. Not that it matters espn.com shows all the same info. Now of it was the streaming verison like Verizon, I'd be singing a different tune.
Running most up to date MOAR and device shows normal in the menu.

Yes that is really weird. I saw the notice that the app updated and figured it would be dead, but it came right up with no issue.
Can someone post the updated app? Please. I want to see of it works for me. And how do you get it to work if its for Verizon only?
EDIT: So I thought this was NFL Mobile that is exclusive to Verizon. Not the Game center thing.

however looking at the app, it says NFL Mobile from Verizon? Not sure if they all do but it's the same app in the market. I don't have a non-rooted phone to compare it with lol.
It's there a flash able zip that changes status on phone from modified to normal ?

The modified status doesn't seem to be the issue as my moar ROM is set as normal. I'm assuming something else deeper in the ROM.

Apparently not so inexplicably...lol. Now if someone can find out what the app is looking for (logcat?) and why TPR is working someone can make a bypass of the root check. I am pretty sure MOAR uses Supersu like TPR and not Superuser, so it is not that.

Hi guys, I bought my nexus 7 2013 lte thinking it could send sms. It seems it can but only if I root and install xposed etc etc.
My dilemma is that I have a nowtv subscription which will not run on rooted devices. I there any way to enable sms without rooting?
Ive tried masking root by all the usual methods but nowtv always knows. This is so frustrating for me as im not to tec savvy.
I have however flashed an older rom 4.3.1 and it works. is that my only option?

I was going to tell you google voice then realized you're on the wrong side of the pond. Been using it for years. Sorry, haven't paid attention to the other options.
RootCloak is a xposed module that hides root from certain apps. I'm not sure what you want in the means of SMS, but I use Google voice, with the voice+ module and nexus 7 SMS enabler modules, then I can choose what default SMS app I want (Hangouts, 8sms). Or you can just use a different SMS app like TextPlus without without rooting.

Yes Xposed requires root.

Thanx for your time but this didn't work. I guess it's one of those apps that the root cloak plus won't work on.

Just a thought, is it possible to make an unrooted rom with mms built in that can be flashed via adb or any other method?

You may find this info useful!
Xposed Framework FAQDoes this require root access?
Yes, because it replaces a file in /system/bin. Once the framework is installed, it should work without root access.
and the link where I found the info.

Thanks for info but I have tried this method. I have unrooted as far as possible without flashing stock but it seems something is left behind that the skygo/nowtv apps see's and says os is modified and will not run.

Not tested, but I know there is a module for xposed framework (i think it is called something like "cloak hider" or similar) it hides root for some apps. Maybe you want to take a look at this?!

I can confirm
It may not be possible. Root cloak methods dont seem to work for this or SkyGo, even unrooting doesn't work for some apps, you need to reflash to stock completely.
Unrooting and deleting SuperSu works on Samsungs

It's not so simple. Adblock will be working but Xposed not. Not sure about Barclays app, I can't test it because if it won't work you need to reinstall your rom... Time consuming

Then fully unroot from SuperSu, restart and Barclays works!

This is the best answer I have seen. Barclays, in general, has a stick up their collective asses regarding hacked phones. Switch to a bank that doesn't care what you do with your phone.
