Forgive my ignorance I am coming from Samsung and LG phones. I have read as many topics as I can but I have not seen exactly how to Root the Sprint HTC 10. Do I simply use the Sunshine app and it does everything? It can't be that simple right? If anyone can give me a simple step by step that would be great!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3371264 should work. Use the new twrp forom this forum

Hi! I just recently got my GS4 from MetroPCS (SGH-M919N) and I want to modify my device! I had a LG Optimus L9 before but couldn't modify it due to the locked bootloader. I'm not sure if my GS4 bootloader is locked or unlocked, so if anyone can help me out with that I would appreciate it.
I'm looking to root my phone and get a custom ROM on it, or stock 4.4 if possible (I have 4.3 right now). Can anyone point me to the right direction in doing all this?

It's not very hard to find the information you're requesting! Nearly all of the members of this forum SEARCHED and found the information you want, did it on their own, however it requires reading..... It would benefit you by reading, so that you understand all of the aspects of getting to your goal WITHOUT creating a BRICK! You would get the overall understanding of what the pitfalls are and the benefits as well. You could be spoon fed the single area that you can get the job done, but won't understand anything about what you're doing, or anything..... You won't be really able to choose any of the finer points of what you want the final product to be....
It's YOUR phone, and if you want to have the phone as YOU want it, would you not agree that'd be the best result?
Read, explore, and see what's available, and THEN, make your decision on what to do. I strongly advise you to do the "homework" on what avenues you have as options and you'll be better off in the long run. You are aware there is no "school" on how to do these things and just about all of the developers and tweakers on this forum READ to get all their knowledge on this wonderful phone....
Just my two cents and if you don't know how to search, here's an example using google:
Root SGH-M919N XDA<enter>
You'll be amazed how much information you'll find..... MUCH MORE than anyone could give you in a response to your question....
Good Luck and Aloha....
What Bobo is trying to say is that Google is your friend. Just add "XDA" to your search and you'll get more hits from xda - development

Most people use chainfire's autoroot.
Clockworkmod (is my custom recovery of choice).
Once rooted you can flash. I usually use ROM manager.
Insane Kit Kat is my ROM of choice.

Many users here on the note 2 know me and use my roms or I have helped with their problems. A couple days a user posted in on of my rom threads that galaxynote2root.com has a guide on how to flash verizon roms on sprint device.
NEVER DO THIS!!!!
I ask for him to please remove the post and thought nothing else about it. Then I see a new user posted a need for help. He tried following the guide So now I am making a post to hopefully stop users from doing this. I have ported over a verizon rom already the S5-FEAT and please take it from me it is not as simple as changing the apns. While 98% of both devices are the same there is also a major difference.
All Sprint devices use a special partition called carrier that is located at mccblk0p16. This is the same location that ALL other note 2's use for their data partition. So if you flash any rom/kernel besides one for sprint you will have problems. First is that the install script will try to install to the wrong partition overwriting your carrier info. Then the install will fail due to lack of room. Now your stuck with a messed up device.
Now for those who just say "Well I can modify the install script" I warn you that it takes much more than that. As I stated I havce ported over one verizon rom so I know from experience that it is not a simple thing.
SO PLEASE NEVER TRY FLASHING ANY NON SPRINT ROM!!!!!

Well of course it is a port so is no longer a non sprint ROM. This thread was created because for a little bit galaxynote2root.com was stating you could use Verizon ROMs by only changing the APN.

Thank you, I will try that rom out. Is it stable enough to be a daily driver?
Yes it is.

Commonly asked questions for the Note 4 N910A. I am seeing these same questions asked over and over and over and over and over again.
1) Is there root available?
There is NO permanent root available.
Temporary root is available ONLY if your phone hasn't updated past firmware OC4.
2) Can I install [this ROM] or [firmware from another Note 4 model]?
NO! We have a locked bootloader still. The only thing you can flash is firmware made for this phone by Samsung/ATT.
3) Will Kingroot or Klingo root work?
See #1. Kingroot is how you do the temp root mentioned in #1.
4) My OTA update won't install! HELP!
See my other thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3226166
4) I'm not on ATT or not in the US, how do I update to the latest firmware?
See my other thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3226166
5) Will this phone ever be rooted?
I don't know. Let me use my crystal ball to look into the future. Oh wait! NO ONE CAN TELL THE FUTURE!!!
6) What? This phone isn't rooted yet or has had the bootloader unlocked? It's been a year since this phone has been released!
GTFO... NOW! Run as fast as you can. We will be in hot pursuit with pitchforks and torches.

You can't install a custom recovery or a custom ROM. You are stuck on stock.

First of all you're in the wrong thread, this is for AT&T devices and your SM-N920V is a Verizon device which cannot be rooted as of yet and I suggest you use the Verizon thread to avoid confusing people and flashing stuff for the wrong device.
Ii belive users were waiting for an update and if they made the update available to download away from the phone. Update was required so users could build a root for att galaxy note 5. From what I read

Really? How can i get that root? Have tried many root apps (kingroot, kingoroot, iroot) and still unsuccessful..
Yes ive tried every thing there is no stable root method I mean you can[kind of] if you haven't updated to marshmallow. Im unlocked and using tmobil but you dont get the aws bands so service isnt as good as a legit tmobil phone.
I have straight talk (at&t sim), and I recently purchased the unlocked Pixel 2 XL 64 GB from the google store, and it will be delivered Tuesday, Jan 2. I've been studying the forums to be prepared to go to work on the pixel once I receive it. I need to unlock the hot spot function, and that is my sole purpose for being on here. I've read a few tutorials, but it all seems like a different language to me. I rooted and flashed my Galaxy note 2 with a custom rom years ago, and so it has been a while since I've even rooted a phone. I am completely lost with what is going on now present day. I really hate to brick a brand new phone, so I'm nervous about using the posted guides. Its not that I cant follow the instructions, I just don't like doing something when I don't even understand the terminology. Anyone willing to work one on one with me in a couple days?
Can definetly help with rooting and unlocking bootloader no prob just quote me

Sure, welcome! I found this in the GUIDE section. It appears to be a very well written, step-by-step GUIDE: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-xl-t3702418 Read and work your way through it and if you get stuck, ask right there in the GUIDE thread. Good luck. :good:
