Adguard excessive battery drain? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I'm having a hard time deciding if the HTC 10 has poor battery life or if Adguard is just beating the crap out of it.
The usage shows like 5% to 9% for Adguard but I'm getting barely get 3.5 hours screen on time. Which isn't bad per se but I keep hearing folks get over 4 consistently.
For example today with Adguard from 5 AM to around noon I ended up with 36% with medium use. I had just over 2 hours screen on time. Then I charged it at work to 100% and from about 1 PM to 9 PM I'm down to 25% with 3:02 SOT.
I will try to see how my battery is without Adguard but wanted to see if you guys are seeing the same thing?

Sot really depends on what I'm doing. Today, for instance I was listening to music all day. And only got 2.5 hours sot, but still have 23% left right now and 20.5 hours on battery with 7 active

Thanks. I'll see if it changes if I don't use Adguard and if I do.

Adguard will use battery as it is constantly having to run a VPN server in the background.
It will also show lots of data usage as its being passed through it.
A much better solution imo, if you don't want to root, is to use firefox and adguard or ublock as an extension. Much more efficient.

It seems abnormal that your active time and total time are the exact same. So maybe it's not adguard.

Perhaps it's because it's still learning my battery pattern. I literally just downloaded it today.

You should use AdGuard's built in battery monitor, any other app will count the battery usage of apps that are filtered by AdGuard and give you wrong results.
I have no battery issues with AdGuard.

I was at 11hours and 3,5hours of screen-on time.
Using whatsapp all day, low/mid screen brightness, playing games and a bit of music.
My phone is going back. lol battery is nothing like some of these stats. Such a PIA sending it back though.

What have you done in that time? Just curious. Used cam? browsed net with wifi or 3g?
Trying to decide whether mine needs to go back or not basically.
How many charge cycles did it take to get to this stage?
When you first got the phone, did you just charge to full then use?

I want to know what you can do to get 4 and half hours screen time.
I mean, unless your just looking at the homescreen constantly there must be either WiFi usage or 3G going on. Unless of course, you were texting for three hours straight.

You can game & watch movies without 3g or WiFi.
As I'm on unlimited data, I think I will perform a test of constant H/3G streaming,
as on my SGS2, I could easily kill the battery with less than an hour screen on time. (less than 8hrs total use - streaming for only 4/5hrs was enough to kill it - screen off aswell)
... Screen on time isn't everything.
& as I stream a lot, it's a test I could easily do, & one I need to know the results of for myself.
Hopefully my HOX will outperform my ex-SGS2 in this particular battery test.
... Streaming over mobile data, truly does eat battery, but I hope it's a long test.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Half an hour on max brightness with screen set to never turn off only took 10% so you got a point there.
Screen time on is a good guide to actual usage though, if the screen is on then the phone is being used. So out of a 14 hour odd day on battery you only use it for a few hours seems a bit poor.
I'm envious of people who seem to get over 4 hrs real world "usage".

I charged it up during the day yesterday, but then hammered it syncing my emails, sms messages and other things.
So, last night was my first real charge. I took it off the charger at 6am this morning, and right now, at just a few minutes less than 5 hours, I'm at 83% with 70% use being cell standby.
I'm sticking with HSPA+ today, because I know that will drain the battery more than WiFi (at least that was the case on my Atrix) and I'm trying to get a feel for the battery life when away from WiFi.
Now, full disclosure, my phone has 6 email accounts setup for push. An Exchange account, two Gmail accounts and three Imap idle accounts using k9 mail. Still, I would say it's burning battery at a little higher rate than my Atrix with those same six push email accounts.
5 hours and down to 40%.
:-(
I'm seeing a significant increase in battery life whith the s3 over the s2

I'm a bit of a light user, but a little heavier than average given new phone.
7.5 hrs @ 57%.
I'll post screens when I can.
5 Hours, 45%, screen on 2 hr, 12 min.
Interesting thing: I have a Pandora Widget on my screen, have not used it at all, and 13% of my power, and show son for 22 min.
9.5 hrs @ 29%.
I am using the default juicedefender profile.
Cell standby hogs the battery more than other phones like US One X with same SoC. I think kernel devs can work on this since this is not normal.
To get a good idea on battery life, everyone needs to show their screen on time as it should be the biggest drain.

^^ I had power saving off for the first 3 hours of the day, and screen was set to 1/4 brightness. I changed screen to auto brightness, disabled wifi network scanning/notification, turned on power saving mode (all options), and it's been like that since about 3 hours into the day. I've done some driving with Slacker Radio streaming via bluetooth to my Jeep.
Seems like cellular standby eats juice. I am in an LTE area.
is the a way to turn off LTE?
This is mine so far, don't really run any battery saving appsetc. Cell standby is a bit too much.

battery life

So all this talk about battery... Some early reviews said 5 to 6 hours battery life. While that is good, it isn't outstanding or anything. Sony been doing that for years and the S7 with the same processor, same battery and crazy amounts of bloat gets the same amount. Anyone have anything to share?
Will check battery life as soon as I got my device. Let's wait and see how it'll do the job.

Honestly, I am not worried about battery life that much as long as the phone has fast charging feature. I have fast charging charger in office and home and heck, I can even get another for car if I want to. As long as battery life is okay, I am fine with it. Now, if I was to buy a phone without fast charging feature like iphone, that will be a completely different story.

5-6 hours of SOT time isn't good at all?
The only phone I've had that was able to pull off a consistent 5-6 hrs of SOT time while lasting 24 hrs was the Note 2. I'll happily take 5-6 hrs of SOT and a full day of usage all day everyday.
Better not be 5-6 hours average... S7e for me if that happens.
Crappy untweaked M8 with everything running gives me that for years.

Mention your screen brightness level. Don't say auto it means nothing. If you do it in manual how high is set ?
Also always mention whether it was wifi only, data only or a mix of the two
In this graph i notice your 4g is a solid green line, that is lucky for you and rather difficult to get for most. A signal like that means very good sot especially since you can also control background apps from consuming data.
Take it this is 6.0.1 ?
seen pretty good sot with that build, like an hour more than earlier MM ones.
Nothing heavy but it got me through two working days with casual use, calls, some browsing. I'm totally content. From early morning till around next day 7pm.
This is good IMHO. Expected nothing more from a smartphone using constant syncing of Gmail office mail, fb, Twitter. Screen brightness kept appropriate for lighting, lowest readable generally in auto mode.
Power saver off, only on on screen shot because I reached 15%
One more Battery save Mode always online.
This time traveling around in a train while listening to Youtube music and browsing Tapatalk/Web via Chrome.

Well, I'm impressed. 2 days of battery life? Not with my usage habits but it got me through an entire day of no-compromise use which is excellent in my opinion.
My day started at 6am with the battery fully charged. I spent from 7am to 4pm on 4g networks with a good signal the majority of the time. I was on wifi all other times. I have Google Now enabled and location settings to battery saver mode. Auto-brightness is set to about 50% which works well for me.
I might actually be able to pull 2 days out of this phone over the weekend while I'm mostly on wifi!

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Google Pixel before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I will post later today after I fully charge. But I lost about 10% during initial setup and downloading apps. Less than 10 minutes SOT, hardly a fair reflection of endurance yet though.

This is from yesterday, my first full day with the phone after getting it Thursday. About a half hour of a graphic heavy game, over an hour of YouTube, some Netflix casting. Power saving mode was on from 15% until I plugged in at 4% and took these screenshots.

Jasestu,
I think your 2nd day results are pretty good. 3.5 hours of SOT and 22% battery left means you should be able to get at least 4.5 hours or more for a 2770 mah battery. That's in par with my S7.

OK, so it's probably a case of needed to recalibrate myself after the Z3 Compact - I get twitchy if the phone ever got as low as 35% by the end of a day....
And here's today's stats.
Not gonna get too ahead of myself but it does appear that battery life is improving as the days go by and the OS settles. I'm hoping to consistently get 4+ hours SOT. That would be an improvement over my 6P (3–4 hours SOT since Nougat) and I'd be content with that.
Today is my first full day with the phone (basically all setup completed yesterday eve), and I'm currently at 4+hr SOT with 31% battery left. I spent about an hour (edit:*talking*) on the phone, listened to a bit if music, wandered around this AM taking photos, and spent a ton of time if Facebook and Reddit. This is WAY better than my 5x, which was struggling to hit 2.5 hrs on a full days' use. Things to consider: it's Saturday and I'm not getting work emails all day, but also I typically expect worse battery life early on as OS is settling in. So far, this is more than u was expecting and is a great early indicator. Even if I only get 4-5hr SOT long term, is still be quite happy with that. Trending for 5-6 is just stellar!
https://goo.gl/photos/ZEifip3kRHXXuVDK7 wow this battery life is crushing what I got even on my note 7. 89% left just went over 1 hour SOT. Well on way to 5-6 hours or more easy. The sleep mode is insane overnight

What's your usage like? And have you been on LTE the entire time?
Not bad I'd say
First day usage. I'd say it's pretty decent
