Busy Box etc - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

So I've just rooted my HTC 10. I'm wondering, does busy Box work or is it compatible? Might be a silly question but I'm curious lol titanium back up seems to work fine. Even without busy Box.

I had to install busy box to get Ghost Commander to work correctly so I would say yes, busy box is compatible.

Which busy box did you install? I installed BusyBox by Stephen Stericson, but when I try to run Online Nandroid Backup, it continues to ask for busy box installation (I know that might not have a patch yet anyway for the 10)

Busy box v1.24.2-Stericson. I use the one from app store, pro version but pro shouldn't be needed.

[Q] Nand Unlocking

Hey guys, im fairly new to the whole rooting and customizing of android scene, but i rooted my epic 4g using the oneclickmethod found here. Everything has gone fine and ive been able to flash multiple roms and try different things out, but today i downloaded the font changer app which then lead me to downloading the busy box app, however i got hung up on the installation of busy box because its saying im not nand unlocked. i assumed that took place with the whole rooting method, is there anything i can do to fix that at all?

I believe No nand unlock is needed, unless it goes through that when rooting. Make sure superuser is up to date. Even try to uninstall superuser and re install. I had the same problem before and am trying to remember what I did. I know I uninstalled superuser & re installed and uninstalled the APP i was trying to get to work and also re installed. So try that and see if it works
Samsung doesn't NAND lock their phones.

i dont mean to sound completely stupid, but how do i go about uninstalling/reinstalling superuser, do i just re-root the phone? Just asking before i try anything so i minimize my chance of bricking, thanks guys.
why dont you link us to the app not working?
If you have a ROM installed chances are that you already have busybox, there that most dev's include it on there ROMs.
I think that your trying to install Busybox in an area of your phone were its currently mounted as Read Only and not R/W. Double check the destination of the busybox installer (it will give you several options) and choose from there.

Good for Enterprise root

Hey all, I have the GOOD app for my corp email, and it now checks for root, and boots me everytime I try to install it. I had off and on problems with my Nexus S with that, but I figured it was on their end as it would work fine for a few weeks.
Anyway, I cannot get it to open with my rooted SGS3. I am stock ROM, just rooted. Do I have to live in a stock world now if I want work email on my phone (which I kinda have to have). No way to hide that from that app?
If I do, what is the best way to unroot without losing all my apps and data? I dont think I can use ti backup on a non-rooted phone.

Not sure if it will work but you can try using supersu. You can set GOOD to deny root and disable notifications. Might work?

Didn't think of that. Unfortunately no go.
Any other thoughts on either returning to stock with my apps/settings, it tricking the app?

This must be a setting your company can adjust, because we use GOOD at my work, and it's working for me, on top of a totally custom, rooted ROM. My Good for enterprise version is 1.9.1.220

Has anyone had any luck using tasker to rename/remove superuser (or supersu) on the launch of a specific app like this one that checks for root, and then auto restore root after tasker sees the app close?
(Yes I know tasker requires root to work but I'm asking if there has been some type of hack or mod to allow tasker to carry out root functions when it temporarily loses super(su/user))

Any luck ? My company is not going to change the root policy so I eather have to avoid it or ...
what about the stock email app?
If you would be willing to use the stock app you could always try this http://db.tt/b6Svh2HB . Figured its worth mentioning
Hey!
I was faced with the very same issues using Good for Enterprise. The workaround I've used is:
- flash Siyah Kernel (S3 1.7 RC1, i think)
- setup dual boot with a couple ROMs (PA and Omega in my case).
- remove root on one of the ROMs and reboot
- boot into the unrooted ROM and install Good from scratch (and not via Titanium)
- thank the developers who came up with these fantastic ROMs and kernels on a daily basis
Good luck! Pun intended .
The way we do it is through a script that disabled root - it essentially renames su items the app looks for.
We also had to change permissions to disabled on GOOD for RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED and READ_CALL_LOG
He then made two apk's in tasker that
A) Runs the disable root script and opens GOOD
B) Run the enable root script and opens SU as assurance that we have SU back
Now, there may be an easier way to run GOOD, but this works for us.
I'm running CM10. I believe he's running another JB rom.

personally its too cumbersome for me, so i opted for a fully stock 2nd device which i already have.
it can also be an excuse for buying a new phone, and making your existing phone revert back to full stock just for the purpose.
or maybe buy a cheap used but decent & certified phone like Xperia Arc for the purpose.

just go to arctablet forums. there´s a thread to root the archos 80 titanium. i think there´s no custom roms yet.
Has anyone tried the Vroot tool on the 101 titanium? (successfully or not) I really want to root my tablet but I don't want to brick it ^^'

man this tool it starts in chinese.. can you provide some instructions how it works?
i want to root my archos 80 titanium
It works on 101 titanium, but you have to live with a chinese supersu. Titanium backup did perform its automatic restore ok for me.
Now searching how to change to a English supersu?
Is it possible to use such a tool from linux (I've no real windows machine only a virtualbox emulated win XP system running on top of my arch linux distro).
Thank you,
Xwang
Rooted Archos 80 Titanium HD
I used the VROOT app that Aung Thiha attached on my 80 Titanium HD model. After installing the app with the root.exe executable, I plugged in my tablet fully booted with debug mode turned on, and I pushed the green button in the software. After a few seconds, the tablet rebooted, and I had root.
Now, what to do about the Chinese app that I couldn't understand?
First, it is important to know that when the app pops up to give root access to a program, you need to push the right side button to grant access.
Now, you can search for and install "Superuser" from the Android market. The version made by Clockwordmod did not work for me, it is important to use the version from ChainsDD.
Then start Superuser, and click on the "i" for Information at the top of the app. It should say us binary v3.x.x with the option to "tap to check for updates". Check for updates and then click the update button.
This will replace the Chinese binary version with an English version. You should now be able to see the normal Superuser Icon in the app drawer and will start receiving prompts in English.
My profile is hungry for thanks, so don't forget to give this a thumbs up if you found this helpful.

So... you are root with the last update from Archos? You could contact the people on Arctablet forum to send them some files. This could lead in some custom rom in the future.
And what about using a linux pc to root this device (titanium 101)?
Thank you,

This utility only works on Windows, but there are already other ways to root, just look.
Yes, I have the latest firmware and am rooted. I'll take a look to see where I can help, cause I think this device is going to be a popular one.

Is there a way to install google play store on rooted fire tv without adb?

Just as the title dictates. I am trying to walk a friend through installing google play on his rooted fire tv, I emailed him all the necessary files and he installed via es file explorer which apprently did not work as it just gives him a white screen. Is this only able to function if it is installed via adb?
Did you guide him through the xposed framework installation as well?
Yes
danknasty, maybe have your friend read the guide. Why would you not use Adb? and you have to install the xposed framework along with the module for google play to function. And to top it off to make it work perfectly fine, you need to use market helper 2.0 beta.

Yea it's an older person so i was trying to make it as "friendly" as possible. He's able to navigate within es file explorer and can stick a usb stick in... adb fire i just feel is gonna be a lengthier and more difficult talk but it may come to that. I have recently installed it via es file explorer myself jsut to test and it seems to work fine so ill have him give it go.

You mentioned Rooted. i have a solution for you. Get him to install quicksupport and start it up. Then use teamviewer on your home pc and connect to it using the number quick support generates. Note: the first time the person will have to accept access to root privs. From that point on you'll have full control of his firetv from your PC. I do that all the time for my parents who live remotely.
I also connect to their PC so I have their PC and their firetv and can do adb install or what ever I need. Hope it helps.

Yeah,. and if he is rooted and has google play which he dosen't as thats what you are trying to install. Then you could install it for him automatically through google any app he needs. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
One other thing to note is that if he gets the prompt for root grant, you know there is a timer of 15 seconds and he has to accept it in that time. I know i have a hard time explaining that too to my parents.
Thanks I think I lucked out and they hit the permanent root grant option on the unit.

Is there a permanent root option with the newer firmwares? I didn't know. At least not with supersu. The permanent option used to exist in the older rooted firmwares. The new ones' have to select grant everytime root is requested.

If you select the permanent option when you first root I believe it transfers over. When you update it. That was my understanding correct me if I'm wrong.

I've done so many roots and have never seen that option. The older firmwares with towelroot had it that way. but when you upgrade from those rooted versions to the new one, you have to constantly grant.
Are you talking about units you've hardware rooted? I just did one not so long ago and in the supersu program there is a choice that says grant always. After upgrade to the latest firmware it still remains.

Subtratum on 8.0

Anyone managed to run Substratum properly on this device? The Java application by andromeda is not picking up my phone.
I am still waiting on the US firmware otherwise I will let you know. This was going to be the first thing I tried because of Andromeda.
Edit: Andromeda works perfectly! I paid for the app and I was able to theme my phone pretty similarly too Pixel. However the status bar icons do not edit and the lockscreen cannot be edited. (I believe it is because of Xperia ROM changing those already).
Andromeda doesn't turn on. Substratum keeps asking to connect to desktop client although i already have
Works ok for me
Works perfectly for me. Use the script. The Java app is broken
Worked for me as well using the script per angelica_kh suggestion.
How to do this? I installed the substratum, but when I run it, it says that my device not supported.
For me it works as long as i stay connected with my usb cable to pc. Once i disconnect the cable i get "not connected" and i need to use again the script to make it work
andromeda says it's connected, but substratum keep asking for desktop client connection.

I dont quite have that issue but the issue that I have is that when I reboot it says that it needs the desktop client. It does work but only up until I reboot. It seems many people are having different issues with it. Im using commercial and journalists rom, maybe different firmware roms play differently with it for some reason. I need to flash a customised UK version of oreo anyway. But thats my issue with it. Then I have to run the script again.

Oh well thats abit annoying then. Oh well if its supposed to happen I cant fault it. As for the other issues I cant see why others would have the issues and others like myself wont. Maybe it could just be down to different region firmwares. Maybe different model devices im using G8141. Thanks for pointing that out for me anyway. I guess ill have to deal with that.

It's not an issue nor is it a bug. It states on the substratum thread that on reboot or some other circumstances, the andromeda process is killed, hence it needs to be reconnected via pc. It's the only limitation. But with the advantages it brings, it's a non issue.
