So as the title suggests I had a bad experiences with my htc 10. I upgraded or should I say side graded from my nexus 6p. (I'm gonna do the captain 2 phones life for a while) I promptly put my htc 10 to charge over night with my nexus 6p charger. Stupidly thinking it's USB C so what could go wrong. I woke up to a freeky hot htc that actually burned me before powering itself of. Probably a safety feature.
So the question is : does anybody know if there is a real difference between the two chargers and technologys?and what that differens means for the regular consumers. And should I be looking for a special type of cable or something, as I had to do when hunting for a second USB c cable to my nexus. Remember the whole debacle of the bad USB c cables on amazon.
Have I damaged my new htc in any way?
Side note is that it's working fine now that I charged it up again with the included charger.
Note to self: Use the HTC charger for awhile.

Pretty sure all phones will charge ungodly slow connected to a computer. USB2.0 outputs 5V 0.5A while USB3.0 outputs 5V 0.9A. It will be slower than any slow charger.
I have charged my 10 every single time with my OEM Nexus 6P charger (albeit with a i-Orange 6.6ft cable) and have had zero issues.
You don't need to stick with the HTC charger. The phones today decide hope much and when they want power. If the OP's charger has been working fine with his 6P then i see no reason why it would cause his 10 to overheat.
To the OP. You most likely have a defective 10. I would exchange it ASAP before something worse happens.

have you noticed any negative effects from this yet?
I noticed that my 10 gets pretty warm while charging. But I think that's a standard affair. Nothing hand burning however

Not yet... That's what I'm a bit worried about. I'm not super happy with the battery life so far. I've narrowed it down to three options
1. I'm coming from the nexus 6p so it could just be that I'm used to a larger battery.
2. The htc is still in its first week of use, so the battery life may yet improve.
3. The affair with the nexus 6p charger damaged the battery in some way.

Warm and relatively hot is in my opinion the norm when talking about a full Metal body phone. It was the same with the M7, M8 and nexus 6p.

Do you have the quick charge option on your computer. My experience is that most phones are freeky slow when connected to a computer, if you some how can't tell the computer that's it should charge the device not just power it
Yea, something seems wrong there with the phone. Exchange it if you can, like someone said. I use my HTC charger at home, and an Anker branded cable in my car with an Anker quick charge car adapter and no problems at all even though it isn't an HTC product.

Yep, definitely a problem that folks need to be aware of. Bottom line, only use the charger that was supplied with the HTC 10. In fact, a warning about using only the HTC 10 charger is etched on the back of the device, although the print is tiny, but it's there.

HTC uses their own custom version of QuickCharge 3.0 or something like that from what I remember reading. It cannot just plug into any standard charger and work properly. It is really dumb, but that is most likely the cause of this serious issue. The HTC 10 also goes out of spec with higher voltage than USB-C allows for because of this custom setup HTC uses.
i have used aukey and anker cables and chargers for my G2, G5, and HTC10 without any issue + the HTC10 native stuff... no issues.
no negative affects charging or maintaining are charge, however i am comparing it to myself only.

They aren't using a custom setup.. They're using Quick Charge 3.0. Which Isn't compliant with the standard usb-c spec. Which essentially means, dont use a nexus 6p or pixel charger and thats it. There are far more devices out that are quick charge 3.0 compatible, and those are the accessories you want to look for. Not the usb-c spec. Any standard charger will actually work just fine. It's only the usb-c standard you would want to ignore. Literally every device manufacturer other then the current nexus lineup uses QC. It's more of a standard then the usb-c spec.

You'd need to account for every app that could've been running over night and eliminate those from the possible troublemakers before you could say it was a problem with the 6p cable which is in spec for usb-c.
you really wont notice right now if the overheat damaged the device if it still turns on. But lithium ion battery's dont like to get hot. they will start to degrade and the battery will hold less of a charge. you could RMA it because its under the manufacturer warranty but you will end up with a "refurbished" device. (you might get lucky and get a new due to how new the device is)

this is from a personal experience. i RMA'd 4 rezounds all 4 were "certified like new" (crap) before i went with insurance and they sent be a different device.

This isn't a problem but more of just a general question. So does anyone else experience your phone kinda lagging or having screen sensitivity issues (have to press hard on screen to scroll) while having the phone charge? This is like a 50/50 thing sometimes it does this sometimes not. So post your experiences with this

Yes indeed. In my case, it's caused by my HTC USB cable that came with the phone. When I use the charger from my old LG ENV3, i never get that problem at all. As soon as I switch to the HTC cable, it's nearly un-usable whilst plugged in. It's odd, because the HTC cable works fine for charging and transferring data, so I don't know, but there's something wonky with it.

Nope, you're not. It can certainly become rather annoying if you're trying to use your phone while it's charging.
Yea, using swype is IMPOSSIBLE when plugged in.
I never used to have this problem before, so I wonder if this is something that comes with age of the phone. I've run all kinds of roms/kernels and never had this issue until maybe a month ago. But I think I've successfully narrowed it down.
You need a charger that outputs 5v at 1000mA. Any more or less and you'll get the wonky response. I have an 800mA and a 1.5A charger at 5v and I get the laggy response. And I took it a step further and noticed that I get maximum charging speed (regardless of kernel, I've tried stock and custom/SBC kernels) with a 28/24 AWG or 24/24 AWG micro USB cable. If you still rock the stock HTC charger/cable combo you should be golden.

i don't think its from age of the phone because i just got my phone in december (hw 0004) and i am still using the stock htc charger/cable. so idk its a mystery. nice work finding all that out tho its good to know that i am not the only person who experiences this haha.
I only get the problem when I'm plugged into A/C power, but not when I'm plugged into the D/C car charger... I think it has something to do with how the outlet is grounded. Maybe the touchscreen gets confused by getting grounded through the charging port rather than through your body. I'm basically making this up based on hazy memories from an E&M class I took about 8 years ago, but I think it's close. Anybody with any actual knowledge care to correct me?
I'm not sure what amperage the 2012 N7's charger was (2A?) but the one I got reads 1.35A. I'm using a 2A charger I have instead.

Though it is a bit more finicky with regards to the adapter/charger/cable it charges from. I can charge the old model fine with a certain setup, and then unplug and plug into the new model and nothing happens. No idea why.

Not that I can prove this either way, I have read that devices are designed to only draw the amount of power they need to charge, so using a charger other than the original might not be ideal, it may not be harming anything either. In conjunction with that I have also been told that they have built in power safe conditions for using a more powerful charger, once again hopefully to protect against damage. When I have plugged my HTC One into either my car charger or the original charger from my first gen N7, both of which are 5v 2A, it does seem to charge faster and does not seem to have caused issues as of yet.

They only warn that as a disclaimer. You can use a 2a charger but the device will only pull whatever it needs. In this case 1.35a.

Minimum current rating is important
Just putting my 1 cent into this. They make the disclaimer and it is general so that you don't use a higher voltage charger with lower current rating.
As long as you have a charger that can provide 5.2V, not sure what 0.2V the difference going to be since some of these chargers are not exactly at the rated voltage, maybe to account for line/load regulation, meaning the voltage could drop a little when charging up to max current and they don't want the voltage to drop too low. Anyway, the device will pull the correct current, you just need the hardware to be able to withstand the heat coming out of the components.
I think manufacturers are motivated by limiting their liability and reducing warranty claims, so they place these mild generic warnings. If using a different charger directly led to damage or injury, the manufacturer would put bold warnings instead of using vague passive words like "may" or "could" or "risk". Same goes for rooting and unlocking the bootloader. It "may" damage your device and you run the "risk" of losing data. Google (unlike Apple) is fine with rooting/unlocking if you know exactly what you're doing, but they don't want to be responsible for everyone who tries it. Given the plethora of chargers out in the world with different amp ratings, I would question a company's engineering prowess if they couldn't design a device that couldn't accommodate different chargers. If Asus really felt 2A chargers damaged their devices, they would have designed a proprietary charger to force us not to use others'. For years I charged all my USB devices using 2A chargers (from a HP Touchpad and a T-Mobile branded generic) without incident. I've gone through 4-5 full chargings on my N7 FHD without a problem.
I will say that I'm anal retentive about charging current, so I have a way to measure it.
The stock N7 charger the N7 charges around 1A-1.1A, not 1.35 like we would expect.
The Device drives the current, so using a smaller one will just charge slower. Larger one will just not charge at its fullest value because the device is dictating it.
Basically, use whatever charger you want, 1A or above, which should be basically everything in the last 5+ years. The N7 will charge around 1A to 1.1A no matter what you throw at it.

Ditto, way to short. I just got in the Nokia DT-910 and am testing it now. Recognized perfectly my 7 in landscape mode.

How long does it take to charge? I've been using a wireless charger since day one and I've never touched the stock accessories yet.
With the Panasonic TM101 it takes me 4-5 hours to get to 100%
So this is an update to a previous issue I had...
When I first got this phone, the included USB3.0 charger charged much faster than a standard microUSB charger. But then it stopped charging fast. It pretty much stopped charging at all really. Like maybe 1% battery added in like 20 minutes.
So I sent it into Samsung and they returned it saying they couldn't replace it because the wall adapter part was actually from a Note 2 which doesn't support the 3.0 wire (even though it was absolutely the one that came in the box). Once I got it back, I found a brand new set of the same wire and adapter (it was covered with the packing plastic wrap and all that stuff which is what makes me think it was actually a replacement). I plugged in my phone and it charged quick again for about a day. Then it went back to charging slow again.
I still need to get down to T-Mobile to see if they'll exchange the wall adapter which supposedly doesn't work with the USB3.0 cable even though both times it worked at first. It's their mistake but I have a hard time believing they'll own up to it... The model on the adapter by the way is EP-TA10JWE with an output of 5.3V 2.0A.
Assuming they don't exchange it... What do you guys think are my options here? I ordered a 3rd party USB3.0 cable from Amazon and that does the same super slow charging as this (and it didn't come with a different wall adapter anyway so it was kind of a stupid purchase on my part). I tried plugging the cable into a computer with USB3.0 and it didn't make a difference. Is there a different wall adapter that is known to work with the fast charging on this phone that I can buy? Is it AT ALL possible that the connector on my phone is the problem and I need a new phone? That would be terrible, but if it's something I need to do I will. It charges just fine and the same speed as any other phone when I use a microUSB cord and adapter like the one that came with my old S3.

That's weird brother. I checked my charger and i have the same model number and mine charges extremely fast. Maybe it's a problem with the device it's self.

I've noticed the same thing with mine ..and definently trickling on USB 2 .. I thought USB 3 was suppose to be all the hype about how it would do when u turn fast charge on in a rooted phone with custom kernel.. The charging is slower than my note 2 on USB 2..

its so weird that it DID charge faster for that first couple days (and again after I got the new one)... And I have 2 friends with Note 3's that say they charge faster than their previous phones (one of them had a Note 2).
I just don't know what to do...
The enhanced speed with USB 3.0 is for data transfer, not charging. Using a USB 2.0 or 3.0 will charge your phone at the same speed.

Well first of all, every review says it charges faster with the included 3.0 charger... So I don't see how you could be right about that... Not trying to argue, it's just that was one of the features that everyone talked about... And second of all, the 3.0 charger that came with it barely charges at all anyway anymore, so even if that was true, either the cable, adapter, or phone still has a problem... Phone charges fine, maybe 3 hours for 100% charge with a microUSB cable... About 1% in 10 minutes (that's as long as I can bring myself to bother testing the 3.0 charger for). And that's if the screens off. If the screen is on it actually just won't charge at all, it's like it drains quicker than it's charging with the screen on with that 3.0 cable... Again I say "cable" but it could be the cable or the adapter or the phone that's the problem... I'd love to find a way to figure out which it is...
For some reason the 3.0 charger charged lightening fast today ... Maybe the jedi ROM had to settle in for a few days maybe?

I lost the original charger to my 10.1 2014 Edition and I've had problems ever since. Earlier this week I thought I would order a Limefuel 24W 4.8A dual port rapid charger. I thought to myself: Hey I can untick Power saving and have all my needed apps running. Even using a root mod to run 4 way multitasking. Yet it's still sucking up more juice than the charger is spitting out. Am I doing something wrong or did I get a faulty unit from China? This was NEVER a problem when using the Damn Samsung charger along with the foreign adapter dongle it shipped with. I thought getting one so powerful would charge it even faster.
Maybe I should just ship it back and get an official unit from Samsung? Although I don't see how getting less energy will make the tablet charge any better

4.8 amp should do the trick. Could be a fake unit. Is it heavy? 4.8 amp is pretty much, so it should be as big as a lap top charger.
But remember , a cheap usb cable may also be the problem. Try a short one of good quality.
Edit.Just tried a 1.2 amp Nexus 5 charger on my P605. Charging good on full brightness.

The charging circuitry and s/w on the device determine charging speed. Do a search. Someone posted the different charging amperages using the stock charge and Apple and HTC chargers and USB cables. The device detected the latter and charged at about half of the former.

Does the p600 also not charge correctly with a non samsung charger? I remember my p1000 requiring an adapter that had a resistor between two connections to charge correctly at a laptop or different charger.

Why on earth would a charger need that..
To me they just look like another chinese manufacturer.
Atleast have the brains to use appropriate logos so they'd be semi passable, like I don't know TÜV or UL and so forth..
And, of course, they're nowhere to be seen on Qualcomm's certified accessories list. Not even any QC2.0..
P.S. I did apply for testing, they sent me an email, I replied. Let's see if they send something lol. I'm not a liar so I'm gonna be honest if I do get their stuff for review
Yer they look decent I already have some of their usb c cables, I've just ordered the qc 3 portable charger from them aswell so il review them all and see how get on. But yer they make no mention of favourable reviews they just want a review, which means they are confident in their products which hopefully means they are good

I actually asked this question at qualcomm but they wouldn't answer, maybe someone knows the answer here, hopefully it is not too confusing.
I was wondering about the QC 3.0 technology chargers. My question is, say I buy a wall charger or a car charger that supports QC 3.0); will it charge my type C phone (say an LG G5 or an HTC 10) as fast with the QC 3.0 technology using a type A to type C cable? I know if I charge a type C device using only type c it will get me faster charges, but if I do type A to type C (with QC 3.0) with the right charger will I still get the best results?

type A to type c wil reduce charging times even with 3.0. I went with these cables and for a car charger I got this one both should give the rapid charging.

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure. I think the HTC 10 charger comes with 3.0 quick charge, but it is a type A to type C.
I actually just got my QC 3.0 Powerbank from Choetech and I love it. Charges everything fast just like the spec allows for, and has a great build quality. One small thing I like is that when fast charging, the first light to the left switches from blue to green to indicate that. I just appreciate the assurance that my device is gonna be juiced up quick. The only thing that's odd about it is that you need to press the power button for charging to begin. I'd prefer it to just start when a device is connected, but that's my personal preference.
Overall I still really like the thing, great to have a powerbank that charges just as fast as my wall charger, before I was stuck with one that didn't have and QC capability. I'll include some pics below.
If anyone has any questions about it, let me know. Should also be getting a 6 port QC 3 charger from them soon too, will post on here when I do.

I was looking at this on Amazon last night, but they don't seem to be on Qualcomm's official partner list, which makes me a bit nervous for my battery (which I'm not super impressed with anyway so far - one of the reasons I was looking at the power bank). Do either the phone or the charger get hot while charging? The HTC QC3 charger seems to prevent overheating.

They aren't, but speeds have been up to par with what I'd expect from QC3 so far so I haven't had problems with it. The charger gets warm after a bit, as does the phone (warmer than with stock charger) but also nowhere near as much as the M9 would when charging. Don't know if you've used that before, but when charging regularly it would get so hot that it had to stop, and that's even with screen off. It was crazy bad at charging, which is a thing I never thought I'd say about a 2015 flagship....so I'm glad the 10 is better in that regard, at least. I'd imagine almost any third party charger is gonna make the phone hotter than the OEM one will, but I didn't have a problem with the heat it generated, overall.

Im still waiting for the main qc 3.0 to arrive from china, but i also got the choetech qc3 portable charger and it works great.
Im just waiting for my usb multireader to come and il check out the voltages etc.. just to double check its all safe, but i've had choetech stuff in the past and had
no issues, they have good warranty so they must trust their quality.
