Menu SoftKey - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I own an Lg G4 for 3 days now. And I came from Samsung S4.
I got used with the keys from Samsung and I was wondering if I could have the functionality also here on LG.
Meaning I want to have 3 softkeys : toggle menu, Home, back
Is it possible? I searched but almost all answers refer to themes.. but I want functionality...
Thank you...

Im rooted running exposed. Gravity box it has the option to remap the buttons i did the same thing menu then double tap is power the icon is stuck as recents but fully functional

Great! Thank you.. I worked very well...

Any way to add menu soft button to show always?

Hi.
I'm new here, came from Galaxy s2 that served me well for a long time.
Today I received my new htc one m8, i have root it and installed xposed framework.
As i came from 3 button layout(home, menu and back) and htc has home, back and recents (which show on long press one the home button of the S2. i really miss the menu button. I know whenever there is a need for menu , the 3 dots appear. But i relay on it for specific shortcut and it will not appear on all my apps.
I think in Lg G2 there is a built in option to change the soft buttons layout.
I didn't found a specific way to change the layout or a way to add the menu to appear all the time
Does anyone has an idea if its possible?
If not built in, maybe an xposed module that will do it or simulate the recent button to act as menu button on long press?
I have sense 6 toolbox module, but it has only back and home key modification onlong press.
Thanks.

you can use Gravity Box Module to have a menu button but ive noticed that it doesnt work for everything
Thanks! It worked! And this module has some other nice tweaks.

Navigation Bar Questions

Got my G3 today and have been spending a good amount of time setting it up.
I am rooted and have Xposed w/G3 Tweaksbox.
I have a couple of things that still annoy me.
Is there a way to swap the behavior of the recent apps button? I want short press to be menu and long press to be recent apps. I figured out I can add a menu button using G3 Tweaksbox that does exactly that, but I can't remove the stock recent apps button, so I have 4 buttons there and I don't really like that.
When I drag up the recent apps button, I get a little semi circle selector with voicemate, search and quickmemo+ options. I have no intention of ever using voicemail or quickmemo+. Is there a place to change the 3 things that come up there?

Most modern apps use the 3 dot menu button in the app interface and that is why most modern phones tablets do away with dedicated menu button so why would you want to do this?

Probably because I'm used to it coming from the Galaxy S3.

You'll get used to the new buttons in no time. Just give it a little time and you'll look back at the S3 thinking the button layout was dumb.i had an S3 and S4. Love the G3 and the on screen buttons!

Anyone have a solution to my other issue?

I have the exact thing you want; but I don't want it. I'm rooted with Xposed framework and I randomly rebooted my phone earlier to have it turn back on with a functioning menu button. I looked through all the modules I had downloaded and even booted into safe mode but to no avail. I desperately need help with this.
Sorry that's not what you want, but if anyone knows how to get that, that's why I want.

Sorry for reposting this... Thought I posted in a different thread but I guess I'm wrong. Please don't crucify me
As a long time samsung user, I'd say try without the menu button and see how you get on first.
But you can change the swipe up (and thats a swipe up from anywhere on the navigation bar btw, try it out), using tweaksbo, it's under:
theme > ring pad
And you can either turn it off, or add up to 5 custom apps.
The recent apps button is kinda key to android, it's like asking to remove the home button. Maybe instead of adding a menu button, make double tap on home be the menu button instead? Then you'd still have your three icons, and wouldn't lost out on recent apps, which you should end up using more now it's easier to reach (as opposed to a long press on the home button on samsung).
As noted most apps should use the 3 dot menu button so unless you have an outdated app you use regularly you really shouldn't even want a dedicated menu button. Ask the developer to update the app. It's the way forward and most all modern phones don't have a dedicated menu button, even the S5 replaced the menu button with the multitask button. It you really can't adapt ask the G3 Tweaks xposed developer if he can add a menu button option as the G3 already has the framework to change nav buttons.
How can you change them?

Just use the LG Display menu in settings to remove that button and xposed to add other button options. I'd like to know what people use, I'm on a 4 button system. I'll post pics when I get a chance
I somehow managed to change them on a system level if that's even possible. I disabled all modules and even booted into safe mode and they were still there. I'd like to change it back on whatever level it got modified. And the settings app crashes when I try to change the button combination.
The OP did not want to replace the resents button with menu, but only change its behavior: short press - menu, long press- resents. I am very interested in the same setup.

In TweaksBox under theme tweaks, then ring pad. It let's you select one in the free version. In the donate version you can select up to 5 shortcuts in the ring pad or disable it altogether.
settings / display / home touch buttons / button combination
I think they are standard options and not something I've added in. let's you add/remove a button such as the menu button or recent apps. screen is wide so I use 5 buttons.

personally don't use program #1 the ring selector as it is accidentally opening all the time with use of the back button.

Hold the recents and thats your menu button. Thats a default setting i believe. No need for g3 tweakbox unless a longpress isnt what you want. Idk which model you have but the tmobile version doesnt let you add the menu button on the nav bar.

[Q] onscreen navigation buttons

Is there anyway to enable the nav bar on the amazon fire phone ?
When I still used the LG E980 (G Pro) with Cyanogenmod 12. I can easily add a line of command on the build.pro file and then there will be the soft-nav-button. Is this available for amazon fire phone ?
Can anyone help, please? If yes, this would be awesome
I have just been using the no root version of Back Button by ogapps. Which makes a floating or pop up navigation bar using the built in accessibility options. Back Button is the only one I found so far that doesn't trigger the TTS bug where it starts reading all the text on the screen.
Go Launcher has a Back and Menu button integrated into the launcher. The only problem is that the menu bar covers the home button, but you can use the physical button.
what I mean is the actual nav bar like the nexus 5

Two buttons at the bottom of the screen

Hi friends.
I use my Fire Phone 3 day. I like this device very much.
Have one question, Can I hide two buttons at the bottom of the screen, when I open up panel and push power button. This two buttons is worthless for me.
Check attachments if you don't understand me..
P.S. Bad English, sry
The menu bar should be on auto hide... It never pops up for me, only in 2 very old apps I tested in the past. The menu bar can't be configured in the settings, AFAIK, did I miss something?
When the Amazon home launcher is used, the menu bar pops up for 1 sec. if the home button is pressed, but it doesn't pop up when the panel is active. The menu bar doesn't pop up if a custom launcher is used.
P.S. English is good... good enough. :good:
No. I don't use custom launcher .
It is stock.
Dont you have it button?
OK, I understood you. Thank you
I've never seen that with stock launcher. I have seen it with a couple of custom launchers including hola launcher where it popped up all the time.

Switch soft buttons?

Hi to everybody, how Can i switch soft buttons?
For example set back button on right?
Thank you
You'll need to root and install Xposed and the Gravity Box module.
I dont see why phone makers these days domt have that integrated, i mean if your gonna go with softkeys instead of the keys beimg on the device atleast make it so we can customize, specially google why dont they just add it as an android feature.

I personally don't use that, I don't like the Samsung layout of having the recent button on the right, it just feels off.
Few devices actually come with the option of swapping the back and recent buttons i assumed the Z Play did too.
I miss that!! few phones I've had gave that option I prefer back button on the right was the first thing I checked in settings even developer options as I've found it in there before , ?

Lg phones and oneplus has got this feature... It's frustrating this because i prefer the back button on right side
The back button is an arrow (or triangle) pointing left. Your VCR rewind button was on the left. Your mp3 player's restart/previous track was on the left. Your web browser back button is on the left. Why should your smartphone be any different?

Thank goodness I've never been into Samsung. Only Samsung I used was the Galaxy Nexus, which wouldn't let me install Samsung Apps!

Heh heh. It's so nice being back on a proper button layout with the MZP!
This is the main reason I root my Moto's, gravity box, swap back and recents, along with delete clock and change battery icon.
As for the layout, since GB 2.3.4 with my Sony Ericsson Arc, my back button was on the Right, my Samsung S3 & Note 3/Note 10.1 was the same, & Moto Nexus 6/X Pure/Z Play All had to follow.
For any OG Android user, the back button was on the Right, and will always be on the Right. And I use it more than the recents so it makes one hand usage more natural. Just my ¢.02

Lol, would be nice to have the option for those who like it. I like back on the left for one handed use, as it's easier for me to reach than tucking my thumb up hard right.
Just goes to show, different strokes for different folks!
