So every single time I press a key that would normally make a sound, even if my phone is on vibrate, my Nexus makes a very faint "click" from the speaker. Under normal circumstances this is not really a big deal but when in a quiet room, it becomes REALLY annoying. I didn't even notice this issue until I was sitting in bed one morning reading my email and noticed the noise.
Before you say your device doesn't have this issue, try putting your phone on vibrate mode and then opening an app. As soon as you click the icon to open it, put the phone's speaker up to your ear and wait about 2 full seconds and see if you hear a little "click." Is this a widespread issue or something that is only affecting my device? Hopefully this isn't a hardware issue and can be fixed with a software update.
go to settings > sounds > uncheck touch sounds.
I experience this issue too, but only from time to time. I think it has something to with the media volume, but I haven't been able to narrow it down to that. It also clicks when I quickreboot.

I tried this and it only fixed the issue for noises that would be made from the touch sounds. I still have the issue with all other button presses that would normally result in a sound (if it weren't on vibrate). This is clearly a bug but the question is whether it's hardware or software related!?
If I have to put the speaker up to my ear while opening a app to hear it...it doesn't seem like a legitimate problem because thats abnornal use.
However, I've never noticed any weird noises from my speaker and I've had my phone since November.
As I said, I didn't notice it either until I was in a very quiet room. Now that I know it's there I definitely notice it way more often and I don't have to put the phone near my ear to hear it.
try installing franco's kernel. It doesn't happen on his kernel.
I'm surprised there aren't more people complaining about this. I found this bug listed on the Android website but there hasn't been much discussion about it on XDA at all. To me, it's a really annoying buy that needs to be addressed and it seems like it's affecting most, if not all, Galaxy Nexus's.

Hi,
Quick question about the way this device records sound. Its by far the best phone ive ever used to record sound, however i keep running into a problem with volume levels. It never stays constant and fluctuates depending on whether the sound is loud or quiet.
Now that wont make sense at first so heres a link to a video i shot in the studio with some friends.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zjcbpfrutvvgher/lemon eyes - 12-06-12.mp4
Note at around 2:20 in the volume changes quite dramatically. I assure you, in real life the volume of the sound was constant throughout the song, the only change was that both guitars had stopped playing, thus decreasing the decibel level slightly (the guitar sounds at that point were from the effects pedals), which surely wouldve made it quieter if anything
I dont believe this a manufacturing defect as ive had it on the past 4 HOX's i owned, but perhaps more to do the way the sound is processed. It is the same result recording in mono/stereo/720/1080 etc.
EDIT Just remembered, i had to turn my speakers up all the way to hear that properly so the recording level is far too quiet as it is. I can barely hear it through the phones speaker.
Yeah got same problem,
I did turn the stereo off in video options which did improve it. Give it a go and turn the Stereo feature off.
The sound was not dropping as much,
I tested this out at a footy match.

Thats a temporary fix i suppose, it did improve it though it didnt fix it for me.
Does anybody know if this is something that is likely to be resolved by a software update? Or can anybody recommend any apps to record this type of thing with if it is a software issue.
Hi guys!
I wonder if you can help me test one thing. I noticed a quite faint but a bit annoying "pop" sound when pressing a button on screen when sound is muted. It is like the speakers make a slight "pop" noise when starting up.
Do you have this aswell? It is only when the tablet is completly muted using the volume button.

Thx for checking. It isnt a big problem, just was a bit annoying when lying in bed and everything was dead silent. It was then that I noticed it. I can easily live with it just wanted to check if it was normal.

Actually I have a fan on roof with a loose bearing. Constant irritation for me But today that you pointed out, I switched off that stupid fan, and noticed a slight hiss too, beside the pop sound.
Is anyone else experiencing speaker issues when trying to mute an app with sound(games). I have 3 apps so far that all have the same issue. When you turn media settings all the way down, you can hear this subtle noise from the speaker, best way to describe it is white noise(like a quiet fan spinning is the best description)? It only occurs when the app is open and when I close it the sound goes away. I didn't notice it until I was in a very quiet room and now it has been bothering me ever since.
Hello xda,
Any time I receive a text or mail the notification sound starts low but quickly ramps up in volume. Is anyone experiencing this as well? Is there a way to set this so it's loud from the start? Hope that makes sense.
I appreciate your help and time
I noticed when the phone rings sounds only by the lower speaker, and sound very low and muffled.

Do you have pocket mode enabled under the sound settings?

Turning off "Pocket Mode" did make a "slight" improvement, but not much. Thanks for the tip though. :good:

Many others (including myself) have noticed and posted about this issue here (though not enough in my opinion). It's not restricted to notifications and ringtones either, it happens with *all* sounds on the phone.
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it. Different sound drivers, updated firmware, build.prop settings... Nothing seems to get rid of this "speaker protection" crap. I am still hopeful to someday see a mod or firmware update that addresses it though, because after trying all those different things, I've run out of ideas.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've also noticed that, it sounds fine when I preview notifications and ringtones, but when the phone actually rings it is a lot more quiet and muted. It does appear that the top speaker is not being used for ringtones. I'll try to call htc, let's see what they say.
Called HTC, spoke with a girl who sounded like she was following some sort of flowchart. Needless to say she couldn't help and concluded that it was a defective hardware. I tried to explain that others are having the same issue and it appears to be a bug, but I don't think she understood. They are sending me a new phone. I'm sure the new phone will have the same issue. Maybe if more people call HTC with this issue, they will figure it out.

Hi there
the same problem here, without any mod, crack o root solution. But the difference were the answer from HTC technical support: " this is a technical and engineering design, it´s not a bug", this mean: " f**** you costumer, and again, a new dissapoint from HTC. I has tried in several forums, here in XDA and another ones: nothing for to do, i loose my faith in the HTC 10. It´s very frustating because a little detail ( the ringtone volume and quality) destroy a overall experience

OH, so they know about it? This is a technical and engineering design fu**-up. My notifications are half the volume of the M8. If that is their answer, then I will probably return my phone.
Any solutions yet?
On mine it rings from the bottom speaker for about 3 rings, quiet, then ramps up and uses the top speaker too. With V4a on now once the top speaker kicks in it's very loud. It gives me a chance to answer it before it blasts me out.
I just bought a new htc 10 and quickly noticed this annoying sound fading in issue, searched online and this seems to be the only place talked about it with no solution, does everybody else really okay with this??
I guess at least it sounded fine when using headphone, but with this speaker fading crap everything sound like its echoing right now. This NEEDS to get solved.
Any solution ?
I came here to search for any ways to turn this "feature" off (and that's what it is, despite how nobody asked for it or wanted it). Looks like nobody has found any solutions. But here's my theory anyway:
The "fading in" volume effect must be a function of the Boom Sound software. It's a noise gate. And it sucks. For instance, try listening to any music that has any hard hits around any silence (a good example is "Brain Stew" by Green Day). It's really annoying.
I wish somebody could figure out how to disable the Boom Sound software altogether.
According to Google, https://www.google.com/search?newwi...0i22i30k1j33i22i29i30k1j33i21k1.0.leWX0kmgR6I it's a known Feature of Android 5, and many people complain about it, but there is no way to disable it.
Some people can workaround the issue, on some rom, with some apps or players; there is no universal solution.
In the best case, some chat app will not bell if they are already full screen; and this is an issue for me because if I have my phone plugged, and display timeout is 1h, then, it won't bell for incoming messages, and if I am >1m from it, I won't know people are talking to me. That's why I try to always make all apps always bell. But, if I am listening to music, the permanent bell that comes with intense chat may turn the music off all the time.
I not sure if I shall downgrade my phone to Android 4, 2.2, or 1.8 ...
.. arg, I am stupid, those versions have never been ported for my most recent phone.
