I used to be able to use an animated image from the phones lenticular photo mode for a lock screen. Now if I try it just says preparing to share and then makes a really cruddy blurry picture that isn't even animated out of the moving picture instead. I am on 4.6.6 and have the amazon photos app icon. I tried on two other phones in the family and we all have this issue. Anyone else having this problem and has anyone found a solution yet?
maybe due to the most recent updates, for example i can no longer use the built in video app to stream from online, it just doesn't work since they updated the photo apps

I understand fire phone is not their priority but it seems a bit odd to kill lenticular functionality and leave it since that is basically the best thing the phone has going for it. Disappointing.
you can go to "applications & parental controls \ manage applications\ Filter by downloaded
click at photo and uninstall update.
you will can use 3d dynamic lock screen by lenticular photo again.

I thought it might be useful to put together a list of apps that aren't compatible (either partly, or at all) with ICS.
If this thread gets enough responses, perhaps it can be stickied?
Post your findings, and I'll try to update the first posts with updates so prospective Nexus buyers can see what may not work.
Adobe Flash - doesn't appear in market. Available from end of 2011
BBC Iplayer - Doesnt Show in Market
BBC News - doesn't appear in market at all. Now works
Blood and Glory crashes
Calendar pad won't open
CalanGoo not working/syncing. Due to new Calendar APIs?
Dolphone Browser - multiple reports of freezing etc.
Evac HD and Radiant HD by Hexage don't work. They install and launch, but you just get a black screen.
Facebook - Doesn't implement menu button, so can't set options/contact sync Update adds menu button back (but no contact sync still)
Flickr - you can't get past the signin process Update available to resolve the login problem now
Go Contacts has issues with themes
Google Earth - Loads but won't respond (multiple reports of this, although some users find it works?) Now working for me too. Maybe it needed a rest.
Google Tasks Organiser - see CalanGoo
London tube status widgets also broken
MX Video Player - Installs but says device isnt supported
RemindMe also doesn't work. It too installs, but you get a weird black screen when you start it
Root Explorer - Now updated in Market
Skype works, video calling does not.
SwiftKey doesn't bring up predictions? Several users now confirming this does work okay
Sygic (Sat nav) can do initial setup, but won't display nav screen (reverts to home). Now working
Tweetdeck - When posting, dropdown options don't appear for location, contacts etc doesn't appear. Posting box just fills screen. TweakDeck in the Market sorts all problems nicely!
Urbanspoon hangs at the loading cuisines screen
Urban Dictionary by Tim Clark FC's in use Now fixed, update in Market
- Note, I've not added every single report to this list; as some are "intermittently crashes" etc. This could be just random bad luck, but if several people post the same kind of issue I'll add it. Sorry I don't update this as frequently as i'd like!

Yeah i tried co pilot yesterday. After it opened it closed down immeadiatley.
Alk sent me an email with my serial key and i am now able to use it. However it still opens and then hides itself and i have to re open from the icon in the notification tray.
Im kind of gutted coming from a fully compatible Gs2. Feel like a beta tester!
So far ive have issues with
Shazam
Lack of adobe flash
Ebay app - get random network error message which stops me from viewing listings
Most decent movie players.
Citrix reciever
If you have gs2 think hard before making the jump, as nice as the device is it is lacking a whole host of useful features added by touch whiz i.e
video codecs - mkv , divx xvid
all share - decent dlna app
ability to add individual callers to a block list
split view mailboxes
flash - for now

Just finding it a hard transition from the Gs2 it did everything out of the box!
Thanks again
There is a lot of information about using android apps on the Fire phone but I have not been able to find any about getting the stock camera app to work on other android devices.
I would like to be able to use the lenticular function on another device that is running android Lollipop (or any version, even through DuOS) Or if it's possible how do I find and then install the fire Camera apk? I know that it uses the dynamic perspective cameras to view afterwards but it doesn't on other tablets that do no have it so there shouldn't be any special hardware requirements.
The lenticular camera option just lets you take a picture then onion skins (shows the previous picture transparent over the screen) so you can align the next picture - and so on, then creates a gif/ animation that you can save and share or view by tilting the phone. On the fire phone it lets you view by moving your head but it works by just tilting on other tablets. I've yet to find another app on android or otherwise that allows for this function and it's the best feature on the fire phone imo. It seems like this would be a very easy app to make or feature to add but Fire Os Camera app is the only place i've been able to find it. If there is a way to get the app to work on other devices that would be great or if there was a way or another app already around that does the same thing - even better!

The stock camera app relies on a vast amount of the amazon framework, so unfortunately not a feasible option.

Hi! Just bought this phone because it's just too cheap and has decent specs. Actually, bought 2 of them, they were about 70$ each, with some 15$ extra headphones bonus
Phone came with Fire OS 4.6.3. Managed to install Google services and store, Google now launcher and make default with Home Switcher(listed as "incompatible" in Play store, had to sideload it...many other apps are "incompatible"). That was problem number one...
After that, installed Youtube app, which works, but 360p only and no cardboard option(360 vr videos). Installed iYTBP(modded youtube app) and videos work at higher resolution(720p default) but still no VR. Also default app player doesn't work well.
Installed Facebook and seemed ok, but videos open in browser and don't autoplay in app. I understand whatsupp has problems playing videos...
All these seem to happen because phone is not really known to the apps and they run in "simple" mode.
Is there any way to make apps think it is another phone that they "know" has enough hardware to run them fully? Because it really has...the soc is still strong enough and gyro is there. I will try my best to keep it as stock as possible for warranty reasons(2 years...)
Stumbled across some post where someone said you have to modify build.prop, I think, but can't find it anywhere. Of course, I would need to root it first...
Any more tips welcome, this is best buy for 70$ + bonus and it's really selling well around Romania right now, it seems.
As a side note, battery life seems ok, I got around 5h SOT without sim first day of use, gestures and sensors enabled and Google launcher.
For those other newbs, this site is useful to a point: http://spinyourfire.com/. Home switcher app is attached here, as it does not show up in Google play for this phone.
Google now works fine for me, including wallpapers and widgets and seems to have full functionality.
Thanks!
Hey all
I have a problem with Netflix on my S9. Around 3 weeks now, when I watch a movie or series on Netflix, when there is a dark/black background the screen becomes grainy, therefore losing lots of detail from the movie. It also "destroys" some of the detail even on faces where there are dark scenes, and makes it really uncomfortable. Sadly I cannot provide any screenshot to show it since Netflix app doesnt allow it. I believe that happened because of a software update (I am using stock software), because before the update it was working perfectly. Has anyone experience anything similar on S9/s9+?

Have you looked at the "video enhancer" setting under Advanced Features? If it's off, try turning it on or off if it's already on.
Did that, no result
I was able to view content again that was not too dark to watch by uninstalling latest Netflix app and then installing v4.12.2 from apkmirror. I’m on S9 Pie.

I sideloaded SmartYouTubeTV, and it runs fine. The brightness is normal and easy to view
When I run the native YouTube app, the videos are WAY brighter. So much so they cause eye strain when trying to watch them.
The only difference I can see between the two apps is that if I go to settings, and app version, the TV type is different on each. SmartYouTubeTV is set to a Samsung TV (even though my TV is not Samsung), the native app says it;s the Firestick version.
Any way to adjust the brightness of the native YouTube app, or set the TV version of the app to match what SmartYouTube TV is set to?

You might want to check HDR settings. In the app and in the Fire Stick settings.

I checked the display option on the fire stick, they are set to Adaptive, and not HDR. I could not find anywhere in the YouTube app to turn off HDR, how do you do that?
Thanks

There is no "working" version in terms of ad blocking. I use it as a viewer since the display is much better than the official YouTube app. But ad blocking has been broken for some time now and the developer had abandoned the project and no one has picked it up
