LG G3 Virgin Mobile/ Bell D852 Variant TWRP/Downgrade Help for unlocking baseband - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright. Where do I start.
I want my phone to work with Wind network here in canada. I have the LG G3 D852 locked to bell/Virgin mobile, running androind 6.0 MM
I've already purchased an unlock code to use with any SIM, and this does work, however, being that it is the D852 variant, and not the D852g variant, the baseband is locked for this cellular network modem- wise.
My attempts to rectify this was to flash it with a stock D852g, as the hardware is the same, the only difference being Bell's desire to shaft you up the A**.
Anyway, I first went about this by using the LG Flash tool to flash the D852g .tot onto the phone using download mode, however, that failed. It said "Hardware Mismatch error" in the LG flash tool.
Then, I went about trying to flash the original D852 .tot, but with Android 4 or 5 instead of MM. Same Issue- Hardware Mismatch error.
So i resorted to downloading Kingroot, which achieved temporary root, and flashing TWRP.
This works, untill I try to boot into TWRP recovery. (This issue is present with both 3.0 and 2.8) When I reboot, it says signature check fail, or something of the sorts, and the phone screen goes blank, and i'm left with warning flashing lights.
HOWEVER, if I restart the phone, it boots normally.
How can I flash TWRP so I can get a custom rom, or just a D852g stock rom on here so I can utilize the addidional basebands and NOT have to buy a new phone on tab from one of Canada's draconian phone companies?
Is this even possible?

You cannot flash a ROM for a different model. The d852's hardware is the same as the AT&T D850 model but flashing a d850 ROM will brick the phone. I'm surprised your phone even boots for most people flashing the wrong model hardbricks there phone. Also what carrier are you trying to switch too?
And the d852g has almost no ROM support anyway.

I am trying to switch to WIND. I thought that I could flash a normal d852 rom, with an older version of android using download mode, and then just add in the radio baseband packages so it actually works with their network. But it won't let me flash a normal d852 rom either, it always boots into android 6.0 mm.

On the D852G you can flash any D852 rom (I'm doing it right now with fulmics and I've done it with nearly every rom available here on xda)

your guide is really great, I probably did something wrong. how can I tell if I am running the right baseband?
the baseband currently installed on my phone is APQ8064/MDM9x15M.
do you have another baseban file other than what you've linked to on your guide?
many thanks!

This did not solve the problem.
The baseband fix seems to only fix the reception issues of the phone so that it can pick up the signal.
The problem I have is about the phone not recognizing the sim card. It will only recognize it when I go back to the stock F180K rom not the E975 rom.
By the way, all F180 phones are pre-unlocked by Korean law.

You do not need to touch the baseband if you already flashed the F180K rom.
The sim should be recognized and baseband should be the right one already.
If you need further info add jseo to kakao talk and send me a message and we can talk real time. I'm in Seoul

Hi Guys,
I need expert help here , it looks i brick my handset while i was trying to convert it into E975 by following the instruction
Guide
Regardless of which firmware you are currently running on your F180, you will need to download and switch to the corresponding one from the list below:
F180S : F180S20B_00.kdz
F180K : F180K20B_00.kdz
F180L : F180L20H_00.kdz
Tip: You can find your phone’s model by going to ‘Settings > About > Phone identity’ in Android.
Warning: Make sure your phone’s battery is at least charged 80%. Don’t proceed otherwise as LG Optimus G comes with non-removable battery and thus you won’t be able to easily swap the battery if it dies in the middle of the process.
It is mandatory that you factory reset your phone before proceeding. For doing so, go to ‘Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset’. Please keep in mind that doing so will wipe your phone including contacts, messages, mails, applications and all the data on your phone’s internal storage. Your phone will reboot twice. Let it boot after factory reset. Once you are on the language selection screen, power off your phone
Press and hold down ‘Volume Up’ + ‘Volume Down’ and while inserting USB cable in to the phone. This will get you to S/W download mode on LG F180.
Now you need to flash the firmware you downloaded earlier. Please refer to the guide here:
How to: Download and Install KDZ LG firmware – All Android models
Once the KDZ firmware is successfully flashed, your phone will reboot automatically. Once it fully boots up, go through the setup procedure and again factory reset it as you already did once.
Once you are on the language selection screen, power off your phone
Once again, put your phone in download mode
For converting your phone to E975, we’ll be flashing this E975 Hong Kong KDZ:
Follow the same procedure for flashing KDZ as you did earlier.
Once the KDZ flash is successful, go through the set-up procedure. Now go to ‘Settings > Storage’ and make sure your internal storage is being listed there. If it shows “0.00 GB” there, don’t panic. Power off your phone. Once completely off, press and hold down ‘Volume Down’ + ‘Power’ buttons until the phone displays a hard reset screen. Release ‘Volume Down’ and press ‘Power’ twice for resetting your phone.
Your phone will reboot once again and your phone’s internal storage will be back to normal.
Now you need to root your phone. Please refer to our LG Optimus G universal rooting guide here:
Universal root for LG Optimus G – Any firmware
Once you are done with rooting process, make sure you reboot your phone at least once if it doesn’t reboot automatically.
Now we will be flashing LG F180 baseband. Download your corresponding baseband backup from the list below:
F180S Baseband
F180K Baseband
F180L Baseband
Unzip the downloaded archive and you will find a batch file named ‘modem-flash’ inside it. Make sure ‘USB Debugging’ is enabled on your phone and your phone is in ‘Charge only’ mode while connected to the PC. Run the ‘modem-flash’ batch file.
Keep an eye on your phone screen as you will need to tap the grant permission button on SuperSU pop-up. If you miss the pop-up as it expires after 10 sec, run ‘modem-flash’ batch file again.
Once the baseband has been flashed successfully, reboot your phone
Congratulations! You have just converted LG F180 to LG E975.
it converted successfully but when i insert sim in it says invalid sim card , i have updated the base band given in above link but no luck then i tried to flash the original rom with many version for this set same thing again ,no signal no network .i think i mess up with the orginal modem without taking any kind of backup.
I need expert advise here how to fix it and which kdz to use to fix it.
looking forward for your reply.
Thanks,

Trying to flash stock ROM using LG FlashTool, require D855K dll file.

I bricked my phone using CM13 and have followed this guide (open-freax.fr/guide-unbrick-your-lg-g3) . I'm at the point where I need to use LG FlashTool to flash the stock ROM. I always use D855 ROMs but this time LG FlashTool is giving me the error: Device Model is different! Check Phone or DLL! I bought my phone from Australia and my phone's model is D855K, although D855 ROMs have always worked on my phone in the past. If anyone knows where I can get the D855K dll, or perhaps a different method of returning to stock. I can access Download Mode if that helps.

Just follow your link at your post.
You can used tot & dll file from D855 and extract them on boardiag. And flashing aboot, primaryGT, etc on boarddiag using file extractor d855 tot.
But, after finished, after you see "download mode", just flash your d855K kdz, or d855 kdz using flashtools 2014.
This might help you my friend.

LG G3 stuck on firmware update screen

Hi
I have LG G3 D855 on android 4.4.2 and tried to update it to android 6 but I got a message saying "the device is not registered yet" so I tried to update manually by LGup but it always stuck on 6% and an error message appears I dont remember it but I think it was saying that there is a problem in the partition: cust
Then I tried with LG flash tool 2014 and it stuck on 2% and says "remove the battery and try again" but to no avail
Then tried to unbrick/unroot it by LG flash tool_v1.8 using tot firmware and it stuck on 6% again and shows an error message saying " partition change Fa..." (it's cut off, but I'm assuming that last word is 'fail')
So help me please because I can't use my phone anymore :crying:

to know if your phone is unlocked insert different different sim cards. If they are accepted the phone is unlocked, otherwise it is locked to a specific carrier.

Sorry for jumping this old thread.
I have the exact issue. Tried to upgrade brand new D855 32GB from Kitkat to marshmallow using LGUP, device has been rebooted to download mode / firmware update. LGUP fails with an error that it cannot find partition : cust. Google was not very helpful about this error.
Tried multiple times without any help.
Also tried to flash TOT using LgFlashTool, and getting the same error about the cust partition. Note that in all retries, on the phone screen, while trying to flash, there progress never passed 0%
Tried hard reset but it doesn't help. Device is now always being booted into firmware update screen.
Appreciate your help, there is nothing more frustrating than getting a new device and brick it on the same day.

Install t-mobile rom onto h812 possible?

I have a lg g4 h812 and its unlock and on T-mobile now. Since it looks like the h811 and h812 have same hardware could I flash h811 firmware onto my h812?
you could always try to flash the first revision of the 811 firmware that is below 10H, i've tried on mine and got me into HardBrick. Got repaired for free.

What version did you flash that caused the hardbrick?
From my understanding you should never cross flash models. Some g4 varients could be differ. But rule of thumb never do it unless confirmed to work
I've successfully flash a 815 & 818 into my 812, but we have to reflash the modem file of the 812 original firmware to be able to obtain network (wifi work but quite laggy).
The 81110H is the firmware that i've tried to install (Phone wont reboot after upgrade and show off like 9008 device) . i don't know if we could modify a kdz for being able to inject directly the modem of the 812 into 815 rom...
Yes you can

I based my tutorial in another one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-f500l-restore-signal-flash-815-t3214574
i've seen it before but flashing the 811 kdz give me a hardbrick. If i flash 810 then 811 that could work but cannot try it right now.

With the 812 we can't directly flash a 811, without causing a hardbrick. I was only wondering if i could flash a 810 successfully a 811 wont be a problem

But you have to flash first with lg flash tool 2014 (flash others kdz without problem)
And then with LG UP

I've successfully flash a 815 & 818 into my 812, but we have to reflash the modem file of the 812 original firmware to be able to obtain network (wifi work but quite laggy).
The 81110H is the firmware that i've tried to install (Phone wont reboot after upgrade and show off like 9008 device) . i don't know if we could modify a kdz for being able to inject directly the modem of the 812 into 815 rom...

Hello friend,
I am also thinking of flashing H815(international) rom onto my H812(Canadian) hardware. If you don't mind, could you please tell me how did the phone function with the H815 firmware?
Thank you very much. Your help is greatly appreciated.

you cannot use it for daily usage, the mobile network doesn't work and the phone will randomly reboot sometimes.

Ok thanks, I'm asking because I'm going on a long trip to UK and the Middle East for 6 or 7 months , and thought flashing the H815 firmware would make it compatible with those networks and therefore a free solution, rather than paying to have it unlocked.
Thanks

So by default, H812 has a locked bootloader. But despite this, the flashing of H815 firmware still worked?
If you read carefully all posts in most of the cited "how-to's" ...
If you read carefully all posts in most of the cited "how-to's" that have been linked in the responses you've gotten to date ... you will note that many problems are encountered, ranging anywhere from hard bricks down. Simply not worth the risk, IMO as there is not a high enough probability that you can get back to what you had originally that was working in the first place.

[UsU]Dealing with a Frankenstein H810 device

As you have read in the FAQ sometimes when you send your phone away to be repaired (under warranty in my case) you may get your phone back where what is flashed on it does not match the actual hardware. In my case the motherboard was an H810 and the software claimed it was an H812, even SALT thought it was an H812.
Well the good news is just flash on what your motherboard says it is. In my case the H810 unlock and roms both work great. Everything except for the flashlight works but that is a known problem with the LineageOS 15.1 rom as of writing this. The phone has been in use for over a week with no freakouts, reboots, excessive battery drain, overheating or otherwise.
REMEMBER! caveat emptor, this worked for me and might not for you!
TL;DR you should disassemble your phone and make sure the hardware matches up to what you are using to root it with. And also make damn sure you carrier unlock it first before flashing on a custom rom. The custom roms will not carrier unlock your phone and in my case claim to be successful and fail silently.
One additional thing to note here, I do not know if this was incorrectly flashed by the tech or if putting on the H812 rom was intentional. I did not use the stock phone whatsoever so I do not know if all the hardware (calls/camera/flashlight/etc) even worked properly.
@steadfasterX per request.
Hi, I too have a frankenstein h810 device, but I only realized it after I unlocked flashed a custom rom and everything. I bricked the phone, but I'm using the sd card unbrick method to run the phone. With that said, you mentioned to use h810 files and everything should work fine. I've tried that, but with little success. Either there would be no sound or LTE or no video. I'm currently running h812 roms/modems and my lte does not work and my battery performance is less than stellar.
My question is, what are the current builds of the files are you using? Also, what can I do to unlock my phone? I got the code, but it does not work and you mentioned that its best to unlock the phone before installing custom roms.
One last tidbit, when I go into download mode and try to use LGUP to unbrick the phone, it says my device model is unknown. Is this something to do with the frankenstein motherboard?
Thank you
I have a 810 board flashed with 811 software
Currently using resurrection remix

Is that where you got the files? Then I can just extract them from a stock KDZ from the internet myself. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to unbrick my phone. LGUP cannot recognize my phone model while it is in download mode. Even salt is all over the place with its information. I bricked the phone a while back so I forgot exactly how I did it in the first place.

Ok, I managed to get LGUP running with an edit to the build.prop of the device. LGUP says the phone version is H81220x. I checked the motherboard and it is the same model as baconbacon's LGG4, h810. What are my choices on flashing a proper KDZ? I've read certain things about ARB, but I'm not 100% sure how it works. Looking at the LGUP tool, it wants to select a .tot file. Any suggestions?

You should be able to.flash 812 software on it then. Google 20v kdz for 812 and flash it with lg up. If .kdz extension isn't available select refurbish....it can be tricky but eventually it will give you option to flash kdz
My phone is a 810 with 811 software. So when I used lg up I flashed it back to 811

Go ahead and flask the 20z 812 kdz first. See how it goes

Flashed the phone and LGUP says it was rebooting the phone but it never did. Now nothing comes up, not even when the sd card is installed. The only feedback I get from the phone is when it initially opened it vibrates, but no screen nor recognized in windows.
