Whats the most stable custom rom currently out? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

OCTOS L is somewhat unstable in my daily life and was wondering if there is any custom stable roms that give stability but at the same time usefull features.
(anyways, how do i backup my app's data for when i install the new custom rom to place it in the custom rom?)

If you want you could use Google's backup services, this being my personal choice
Or a Nandroid backup
Or use Titanium Backup
On the question about stable roms..... I myself am still waiting too see. Hoping to see some interesting input soon

Interesting to hear you had a bad experience with Oct OS L, I tried Slim Rom and had camera issues. Oct OS L gives me none. Working camera all apps i use working, day long battery. How did you flash it? TWRP select Advanced Wipe then select, Dalvik, Cache, System, and Data and do a total of three times?

I only did it 1 manually while the ROM did it again automatically. So 2 total. When I take a selfie on instagram with my FFC, the phone crashes and reboots. And for the video with the FFC, it doesn't actually record it.

Do 3 manual wipes as I described in TWRP, also clear cache 3 times after ROM flash. Then reboot, shouldn't have that FFC issue on latest Oct-OS L. I am getting perfect FFC photos and rear. No force close. I know the issue your referring to I couldn't avoid it on SlimRom 4.4.4 without using open camera. That's a short term fix but you have to take pictures in open camera first.. I would recommend the flash/wipe as I described.

BTW Oct-OS L release version makes a difference, I am on Oct-OS-L-M6-FINAL-5.1.1-20151229. The last part being the important one, 12-29-2015 is the build date of the version I am having zero issues with.

about G2 camera app

In the stock ROM of G2, the camera app has the touch focus function.
But I flashed the CM 6.1.1 and found that when I selected the touch option, it didn't work at all.
Virtuous and Enomther's ROM also haven't the function...
As I know, HTC has released the source code of G2 rom, so why there is no mod's camera app the same like the one in the stock rom...

try going through the settings in your CM camera app, it's there
In CM6, did anything happen at all when you touched the screen? No green focus indicator at all? Do the other focus modes work? It's been working fine for me (only on occasion, there is some delay before it registers my first touch).
And as far as I remember, the stock Froyo camera app did not have touch focus (in fact, it felt severely limited in options in general).

Thx a [email protected]@
I do remember that the stock rom has the function...but I lost the nandroid backup of my s-off stock rom...so I can't go back to the stock rom other than I wanna lost my root...
Maybe the Froyo didn't have the touch focus, but G2's stock camera has it and also comes along with a few simple scenes to [email protected]@
The focus function on My G2 with CM 6.1.1 works as Continuos, Auto, Infinity, but when I selected the Touch mode, no matter how I touch the screen, nothing happened...
Not sure what's going on then. Did you wipe the dalvik-cache when you flashed CM? That may be worth trying. Also clearing the cache and maybe wiping data for the camera app?

A good idea, [email protected]@
You know in the clockworkmod recovery there's wipe data and wipe cache on the main menu, but the item wipe dalvik-cache is on the Advanced menu...so I never tried to wipe the [email protected]@
Maybe I'll make a try the next time I flash my rom...(maybe cm7><)
You can actually wipe the dalvik-cache now without any harm. Your next boot will take a while longer while the cache is being rebuilt (and your apps make take slightly longer to load the very first time they are run). You won't lose any data or settings though.

Also, how to use ART
MikeEx Posted (Couldn't quote or it wouldn't show red on XDA app):
Remove your phone from any case and place in front of a fan where the top front and back receive air flow.
The phone will get extremely hot (80*C+) if left uncooled while ART compiles everything. This could be a total brick hazard.
Having around 200 apps could take well over 10 minutes.
ART will recompile every time you flash a new nightly.

Do I have to use CWM to flash this? Has anybody used flashify on our phone? How's Wi-Fi? I'm full of Qs but I'm dying to run a 4.4 that isn't from mako sources.

Use CWM, I believe there's an updated version that someone built (it's in the cwm recovery thread towards the last couple pages). Flashify works on LGOG as that's what I used to flash the cwm touch img file. Wifi works on my end. I flashed the 11/30 build and then dirty flashed 12/03 build.
I realize this is probably buggy but is it worth the switch from 10.2 to use as a dd? What if I want to go back? All my backups are TWRP
Use online nandroid backup to make a CWM backup without CWM

Hey add a warning to OP for using ART. Red bold letters. something like:

Basically everything worked for me except video recording and playback. Try recording a video in snapchat and see what happens.
That said, the camera works better than on the other 4.4 ROMs. No autofocus issues and no weird coloration issues, no capture rate issues either.

Ran the 12/3 build all night last night - dirty flashed up from the latest 10.2 build just for kicks.
Initial boot the OS was just crawling (likely dirty flash issue) - 2nd boot brought everything back to life and been fine since.
Not running ART just yet - need to verify and trim down my 200 app list lol (plus I don't want to lose Xposed just yet)
3G/4G both work great
Wifi worked fine at 3 different locations
GPS worked great
Auto Focus of course works fine
USB Tether works (woot!) and no long kills my phones USB connection when un-tethering (double woot!)
BT worked fine
NFC Works
Audio book played without any audio distortions/glitches (issue in another KK rom)
Google Nav/Maps is still using the wrong voice - an issue I had in the 10.2 build which may have carried over due to dirty flashing. The other KK rom I use uses the correct voice.
Using the PA Gapps Mini-Mod package
Had to reset my battery meter setting since the 10.2 option doesn't exist (yet) in 11 - had me confused for a bit since I had >no< battery meter lol
Aside from having to use CWM, this is pretty dang slick so far.
has the updater been implemented? The one really cool thing I liked about CM
What is ART? Is it optional?

i've never had these issues myself, but i can see why they would arise. i think a warning or piece of advice should be mentioned stating that if someone plans on using ART, they should enable it immediately upon rom installation, before other apps are installed. that way, optimization isn't as tedious of a process

CM11 Nightlies Discussion

It looks like CM11 nightlies have just started for our dear old (and by now loyal) P930s:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=p930
I am not sure what gapps one would install with this, and I assume a full wipe is recommended, if not necessary. Let's discuss problems here and encourage further development for a quickly stabilizing nightly!
Yeey I am so happy to hear that, I just hope it won't take a lot of time and that all the reboot and bug issues still found in the 10.2 version will be fixed properly.
I used these GApps with Navik's version of CM11 and they seemed to work out pretty good.

Is the 2012-12-22 version working for anyone else? I got an error when I tried to flash it. Wasn't sure if my download was corrupted or if it isn't quite ready for release.

Its working quite fine for me, for now the only glitch i have is that the camera isnt working, no bsods as of yet, flashing the latest version 12/23 right about now.
I did a full wipe - factory reset, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom, flash pa stock gapps.
EDIT: Camera still not working in latest version.

I did end up getting it working. I had an extremely old version of ClockworkMod on my phone so I updated that. Re-downloaded the file and did the update through the CM updater. Worked fine second time. Performance was terrible, but that may have been from not doing a clean install.

Yes, but its a little unresponsive - an issue already identified with the rom I pulled the camera package from.
You can try it here if you want:
http://hubbards.us/p930/cm-11-20131224-NIGHTLY-p930-mod.zip
But like I said, it isn't perfect or anything.
It looks like there is a bunch of commits for the next nightly related to the camera, so....let' hope that fixes the camera. Once someone can confirm a working camera, I may make the jump from 10.1.3. I still get 3-4 freezes a day (unresponsive to power, etc.) -- is 11 much better?

fwiw, I'm on 10.1.2+Wind and was getting one BSOD per day- underclocking to 1.4ghz seems to have resolved it, and I don't notice any difference in performance. Antutu score is maybe 150pts lower. Maybe that will help on 10.1.3? I haven't really used it much because no Wind kernel.

CM11 runs quite well even without WIND, havent had 1 single BSOD on it, as for the camera, you can just copy/replace using the one from pace44, change persmissions and reboot until CM resolve the camera issue.
Of course performance wise its not as good as CM10.1.3 stable + wind, but still, being that its the first nightlies, its quite a good rom. Not sure if lyfkevin will make a WIND kernel version for CM11 as there is no plan for a SU640 build anytime soon.

My bad, I was thinking 10.2 :silly:
Happy 2014, guys!!!
So, I gave CM11 a test drive today, and while it was solid and the camera suggested by Just1nsama worked great, my issue was related to the SD card -- for some reason it was having trouble reading/writing to it (couldn't move apps to SD, gallery only saw about a fifth of the files, and same with music player). It's not an SD card issue -- I checked the SD card for errors and, now that I've reverted to 10.1.3, it's working fine as well. Anybody else have this issue? It's a 64GB card.
I installed the latest nightly...did nothing extra regarding the camera as it now works out of the box. There is an issue with apps that install by default to the sdcard. When I tried to install Carbuzz, it failed with an error message "Couldn't install on usb storage or sdcard". Using File Explorer I can see and access all my files on the sd card, plus play music from the card using Apollo. Hoping next nightly will cure it. The ROM is very stable without any BSOD thus far. My recommendation to the CyanogenMod team is to skip 10.2 altogether and focus on 11.

Agreed. Hopefully an easy fix as while system not giving write permission for apps to install to sdcard, there are no problems with apps saving to or accessing data from the sd card

Same experience here. Third party camera apps including barcode scanner and Yelp are closer to working then in 10.2. Barcode no longer freezes the phone, I just got the same black screen with active borders as described in quote, and I can exit the barcode application. Yelp's "add a photo here" function comes up with garbled live image instead of the black screen with a few snow lines in 10.2.
Some applications seemed subjectively faster than in 10.1.3. Camera in 11 was slower to load but focused and balanced light levels more responsively.
Trialz, did you happen to root your device using the Korean KDZ file? Method of root apparently makes a difference in 10.1's camera tendency to freeze the phone if the screen is shut off while an image is live. Perhaps this camera issue is related?
Great work, but until the third party camera issue is fixed, I'm sticking with 10.1.3.

[Q] Is there a stable version of Cyanogenmod for Xperia M?

Sorry if i make any errors or mistakes. I just spent the last 20 minutes on creating this thread and in the end, made me login again and guess what - everything i typed went away.
My phone is sony Xperia M C1904 single sim, running android 4.3 stock(latest).
This is the first time i am rooting.
I am doing it because
1) Low free space thanks to Sony's bloatware.
2) Expected them to atleast give Kitkat as they were supposed to.
3) Need app to sd
I need a stable version of cyanogenmod for my phone.
Does updating work like normal? Like, do i just use update center and download the new version updates(like perform all steps and install once, then use as usual), or do i have to flash again and again?
Is there any feature that i won't be able to use? It will only be better right?
Can the process be done on the phone itself via sd card after downloading everything necesary, or do i have to install/flash it while connected to pc?
Please explain in detail.
1. stable CM12 yet to be released, please go to cyanogenmod site and look for device Nicki
2. from my personal exp. updating work like normal update. you need to enable root and other feature from setting.
3. i am using link2sd and successfully managed to cap the space <800 MB. currently 1.2+GB is free on my XMS.
4. only thing i hate, after update you need to grant access to link2sd so that your app can comes back.
5. you can check change log in cm site for each nightly, i.e. 12-20150322 nightly has an issue on mobile network check/uncheck while using wifi.
6. you need to flash cm12 and gapps on each update.

CM11 seems to be quite stable.
Sometimes Google Play Services crash but it got better after I switched from dalvik cache to art. If you reboot your phone once or twice a week CM11 works great.
Battery life on the other side is really bad compared to stock 4.3 rom. (On Stock Rom I had to charge every 5 days, with CM11 every 2)
There are no updates for CM11 anymore, so no need for that.
If you want something that just works, go for CM11 and wait until CM12 gets a final realease. Otherwise you have to deal with bugs, even worse battery life and flash your stuff again after an update.

Thanks, but what exactly does this disable? No idea what DroidGuardService is and how it is needed....
Are you using your phone a lot of times during the day? If yes, there is not much difference for me either.
But often times during a busy week at work I barely use it and in this situations stock did last way longer than CM11.

I don't know, it's Boonobo's guide but I think it's safe to discable since it's not working properly anyway. Yes, I use my phone a lot.
Okay, thanks. Do you have a link to your mentioned guide or something?
no, it's some old post and I don't know where it is, anyway I'm using this on my phone and I don't see any difference (except no fc ofc)

So my experience so far. If you disable this, most apps can't get your location over Wifi anymore or if they do, it is not really exact.
Had some Llama rules with Wifi which are not working anymore and my weather app can't find my location when connected to Wifi.
Had to enable it again...

[ROM][E6553][6.0.1] AOSP by FXP[160826] !!NEW WORKING CAMERA!! latest Security Patch

This Rom is pure AOSP made by FXP Team
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT MAY CAUSE YOUR DEVICE
Your Bootloader must be unlocked and TWRP recovery installed.
You must have a working adb and fastboot connection to your pc.
Installation:
-Place GApps on your internal SDcard
-Reboot into TWRP and make a Backup of your System (boot, system, data)
-In TWRP delete your data and cache/dalvik
-shutdown your device and restart into fastboot mode
-flash the extracted system.img "fastboot flash system system.img"
-reboot into TWRP und flash GApps
-shutdown your device and restart into fastboot mode
-flash the extractet boot.img "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
-restart your device (first start take a few minutes)
-done
The File "userdata.img" in the Rom zip just delete your internal SDcard so please dont flash it.
Recovery: In the Rom Download is a "recovery.img" this is the Sony AOSP recovery you can flash it but you cant do much with this and you dont need to flash it.
If you want to use TWRP, you have to boot your Devices with TWRP "fastboot boot twrpxxx.img". You have to do this everytime you want to use TWRP. I read that FXP fixed the kitakami-recovery bug, lets hope its in the next release.
Downloads: Rom 26.08.2016
TWRP
Root: Hotboot into TWRP and flash the latest betaSU.
Xposed: Hotboot into TWRP and flash latest Systemless Xposed framework and install latest Material Xposed Installer.

Screenshots?
Has anyone tested this out yet ? Stable? daumm im sounding like a dumb person lol
Would be nice daily driver? so many questions
Screenshots?
Can't flash this, it just comes up with an error in TWRP as soon as you try unfortunately. Guess it was a blind build that hasn't been tested.

You shouldnt flash it in twrp, you need to flash it from your pc. And it works perfect, i used this Rom for two days rooted with xposed and no Problems or Bugs except of the camera. I dont think that we need Screenshots because its pure aosp.

Thanks for the information. This is the first none stock ROM that I've tried flashing on a Sony device. It's all a bit difficult compared to other devices I've used.
What commands do I use to flash this ROM?
I'm an idiot and didn't read the first post properly!
It's hard to download(ಥ_ಥ)

Camera is working, but the pictures are not good. From ten tries one picture is good. Sony knows about that problem with the AOSP Camera Driver for MM but it doesnt look like they wanne fix it.
Took me a while to get it up and running but I'm there now - all seems good (apart from the known Sony camera issues).
Where is AOSP for E6533……
Thanx
Sorry for the noobish question, Camera Bug means none of the camera apps will work? or bug with only stock camera?
Can anyone clarify me plz....

Is this ROM going to be updated?
Hey, FXP made an Update... finally, linked it in the OP
I dont know anything about the changelog, going to test it.
Edit: Downloaded, flashed and booted... that was fast... lol forgot to clear my userdata result in bootloop xD
Ok Camera is complete broken now. Dont know what FXP made but its not good and access to twrp is still missing.
Sony are a joke when is comes to open source. All there DRM features have been ported already and always will be so why not just give it out so we can have a working AOSP ROM and custom! I'm no developer but these issues with camera and that can be easily fixed. It's definitely my last sony. Going Nexus next or the lg v20 might be my thing.
We have an update from friday with WORKING CAMERA on AOSP!!!! YEAH!!!!
And the pictures are good. Didnt test everything yet but looks quit good. I will try it for daily driver the next days.
Edit: It´s hard to make pictures in a dark area but if you have enough light around there the pictures are usable.
How is performance and (over)heat with AOSP?
Like is the snapdragon better controlled than on Stock? Would be a dream to be honest.
I have not tried the latest AOSP but generally yes performance and battery should be better as it's has a lot smaller footprint than Sony stock.
Will take a backup of my setup later and give this a shot. I see the AOSP 7.0 files are up too. Would porting snap camera or building cm from this not improve camera function more?
After using the latest build for a couple of hours i have to say... wow this is a very fast system. Everything i testet is working, only thing which isnt perfect is still the camera, focus is sometimes hard and as i said you need enough light. But as the dev from z5 made the camera working much better and this is the first rls with working camera overall for z3+ i think its just a question of time when we will have a perfect camera.
Performance is much better than with every Stock or Stock based Rom. Overheating issue sure still exists, this is caused by the processor not by the software. And we dont have a custom kernel for AOSP which is underclocked by default. I use kernel adiutor to make this and it helps mostly. The average Ram usage is at 800-900mb with GApps installed
Sad that Sony has to release three newer flagships before they publish the neccessary stuff to build aosp bugfree.
Oh and yes twrp still doesnt work, only way is still boot twrp from pc via fastboot.
