Htc one M8 No recovery No Os - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My friend some how managed messing up both the OS and recovery of the phone, he said he was using it and all of a sudden it turned off battery was about 50% and booted in bootloader so he tried every option on the screen LOL . Now it is stuck in bootloader mode whenever i try to select the recovery it comes back to the HBOOT. i have already tried unlocking the bootloader but its not working as well. I am all out of ideas as i do have an samsung and lg phone and i know a great deal about them but for htc i have limited knowledge.
i have also tried to use this RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed.exe
but every time it ends up with Error 171 Usb connection error ( i have used different usb cables and tried other usb slots as well still no luck )
i am all out of ideas now.

Look here at post #28 and #30. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2717928&page=3 . Download that .zip template
You can put the TWRP recovery.img (it has to be renamed to recovery.img) inside the zip as directed (change the .txt file with your CID and MID), put it on the SD card and let the bootloader automatically detaect and flash it. Once its completed you would have to power down and remove it from the SD card otherwise it would try to update again next time you go into the bootloader. That should load a recovery from which you can flash a ROM

Is the bootloader LOCKED or RELOCKED ?
Is it rooted ?
It seems that baseband is corrupted, if it is not a hardware failure, flashing a signed firmware may helps as there is no RUU available for the device version.
You need signed firmware 4.19.61.3, try to search for it.
I may have the firmware.zip in my hardisk .. will look for it later. But I do have a higher version firmware 6.12.61.4 available in my thread linked in my signature.
For S-On device, only firmware of same or higher version can be installed.

You are indeed correct. My bad. Missed that bit. The link should be reachable though as I have used it this morning. Anyway, doesn't matter now.

It looks like it is a hardware problem. It's best to send to HTC Service Centre if it is still under warranty.

Tmo Htc One M8 error 12 "Remote Signature verify failed"

I am fixing a TMO Htc One M8 for a friend. He currently has TWRP recovery but nothing will wipe or flash. I have posted the get var information and the log below along with all the steps I've taken, please share any insight into the matter.
Here is the Get VAR Information. I have tried to fix this device by relocking the Bootloader, flashing stock RUU RUU_M8_TMOUS_1.57.531.7 , Flashing modified firmware.zip, flashing recovery.img, nothing. Then unlocking the bootloader, flashing Philz recovery.img, Twrp.img, still same error. Current TWRP recovery registers nothing but errors. No wiping data, cache, system, etc. No installing backup nandroid, no flashing new rom through external SD card or adb sideload. Literally the phone won't flash anything and the error is error 12, "Remote signature verifiey failed" What kinda insight do you have into this? Anyway to get back to stock?
Thanks!

okay I'm wondering why the bootloader is 3.18. I just converted my T-Mobile HTC one m8 to dev edition and that's what my bootloader is now.
That device must have been s-off before if it has the 3.18 bootloader. the problem is now you're s-on with the wrong bootloader in the phone. So it's not gonna verify something it can't. U need to unlock the bootloader then try to s-off again. Let me know if u need more help

Yes, I think the device was S-off before was well. But how can I get the device S-off when I can't load any rom to establish an internet connection?
There's no way to get back to stock, or get an internet connection through the device to obtain S-off. I can unlock the boot-loader,
I've done that a few times, but how to get S-Off when the only two screens I can access are the bootloader and twrp? When bootloader is unlocked. I have used firewater before for S-off and it requires active internet connection on device.
Thanks again for helping

Unlock bootloader try to flash the latest open twrp recovery and try to install another Rom or backup. If you can see the roms in the sdcard then you should be able to flash the roms or backup.
If there was a way to get into adb YOU would be able to s-off again.

I've tried to flash TWRP but I get that error. I tried to flash the newest twrp but it wouldn't flash.
I think the system is no longer mounted, that's why I get this error :"E: Unable to mount 'data'" and "E: Unable to mount internal storage"

Is there any option in recovery to format? if so have u tried to format each partition manually?
Then try and see if it will flash. Just need something to boot so you can s-off .
You need to get s-off again so you can flash a ruu with lower hboot if formatting doesn't work or you can try to flash the new 4.4.3 ruu when it becomes available. They said the ota should be out on the 11th.
I'll keep looking for ways to s-off without adb .
Well first your doing the wrong command. Its fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, not fastboot flash flash recovery.img.

Yes, that was a typo. Every fastboot flash ends with error 12. Remote Signature.
I have tried literally everything with this device. Tried flashing new TWRP, Radio, Firmware, Etc. Nothing works.
Inside TWRP everything finishes with "failed" or "E: Unable to mount cache"
I tried to select cache under the mount in TWRP and it's greyed out. I fastboot erase cache, and it is literally
the only thing that worked for me. But still no way to restore previous Android. Tried flashing stock RUU's for 4.4.2 and 4.4.3, no dice.
Both RUU's get to 6 percent and then say failed. I'm wondering if the device thinks it's a different phone possibly a GPE edition so it won't
go back to stock? Just a thought. I have unlocked, and relocked the bootloader a million times trying different methods as well, not
sure what else there is to do next. This might be the end of the road for this customers phone.

There should be a way now that the new T-Mobile update to flash ruu if we can find one.
Edit: found one
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads/P00
Just select T-Mobile as carrier and USA as region then you Wil see the latest ruu to download.

the latest viper is from New firmware base so it takes 15 to 20 minutes to boot. Have you waited that long?

Sorry it seems I'm getting posts in different orders.
Flash viper and wait 15 to 20 minutes. And we can go from there.
I'm pretty sure we can get this resolved.

I'll try to flash the latest Viper. The 1.6.0 it says everything flashed correctly, but gets stuck at the HTC boot screen.
I just flashed the 1.8.0 OTA update and everything installs but it sticks at the boot screen.
I see the 2.2.0 update is out so I'm downloading that now, I'll flash and see how it goes.
I'll update, thanks for your help!
Ruu requires the bootloader be locked
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

[Q] HTC One M8 won't boot.

Some one please help me.
I have the HTC One M8 which I updated to Android 5.0.1 through OTA updates about 2 weeks ago.
Yesterday, I successfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device. I also have the TWRP Recovery v.2.7.0.2 installed.
Everything was working fine until after the root when I noticed that the internal storage had some kind of write protection on it. Like even the default "DCIM , ANDROID, Downloads etc... folders weren't there". I discovered the write protection on the internal storage when I tried to download a file using Chrome on the phone and it replied with "No SD Card".
Funny thing is apps from the Play Store were installing perfectly fine.
So I booted back into TWRP recovery and did a factory reset thinking I must've messed up while rooting.
After the factory reset when I try boot up my phone the Setup Wizard constantly crashes so I can't do anything.
My HTC One M8 is the international variant Model: 0P6B100.
Someone please help
1. Install the latest TWRP 2.8.5.0 or 2.8.4.0 (2.7.0.2 is damn too old and buggy)
2. In TWRP select Wipe - Format Data (you will lose all files in internal storage)
3. Reboot - you should be able to run the setup wizard

I installed TWRP 2.7.0.2 using All in one tool v2.0 by Hasoon2000. The tool needs usb debugging to be turned on which I can't turn on because I can't get past the setup wizard because it keeps crashing.
Is there a way to install it manualy using fastboot?
I thought so ... when I see TWRP 2.7.0.2 I can guess you use some outdated Toolkit.
Press & hold Volume up and power button until the screen turn off then quickly release both buttons and press & hold volume down button. This should get you to hboot. Press power once to go to bootloader.
If you don't have a proper ADB & fastboot installed, download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Download latest TWRP : http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m8
Connect to PC and open a command prompt and run command fastboot devices and see any connection with PC, it will give your device serial no. if it does.
If yes, flash the TWRP : fastboot flash recovery NameofTWRP.img then do the above that I mentioned

If you don't feel like installing the latest TWRP as I said above ... then -> hboot -> recovery -> wipe -> format data -> type yes -> reboot
I wrote almost everything there, but read only the last paragraph ??
Read again all of my posts here.

I did that. Then it started the "Android is upgrading - Optimizing apps splash.
After that I'm back to the Setup Wizard which keeps crashing.

You don't need S-Off to run RUU, relocked bootloader before run RUU. Read thru that thread, there are many discussion.
Read this, this guy also doesn't have S-Off device : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/one-m8-htc001-cid-firmware-wifi-problem-t3031656 and he managed that.
Or just restore backup that linked to you if you don't feel to relock bootloader.
You need to read all those thread. Without reading, this is going no where .. good luck

What does RUU mean? and how do I use it?
Also does applying RUU restore my phone to the way it was before root as in With Android 5.0.1 and Sense 6.0?
RUU is ROM Update Utility released by HTC.
Read the thread on how to use it. Basic is put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode and relock your bootloader with command fastboot oem lock.
Then run the RUU exe in Administrator mode (select run as Administrator) from your Windows explorer.
This will wipe everything on your device and replace with new stock ROM with no root.
That RUU is lollipop 5.0.1 and Sense 6.0
Read the thread.. you will understand what it does. Good night.

Did you do fastboot oem rebootRUU before fastboot flash zip ruu.zip ?
Let's do a different way, the simplest one.
1. Re-unlock your bootloader
2. Make sure you have TWRP 2.8.4.0 or 2.8.5.0 installed (I mentioned many times about this version, right ?)
3. Download a flashable stock ROM One_M8_4.16.401.10_stock_system_dump.zip from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994
4. Boot to recovery and connect to PC, In TWRP recovery select Mount and enable MTP, you should be able to open internal storage or MicroSD on your PC
5. Transfer the downloaded One_M8_4.16.401.10_stock_system_dump.zip to Internal Storage or MicroSD
6. In recovery, select Install and select One_M8_4.16.401.10_stock_system_dump.zip then swipe to install
7. Reboot
Thank You.

Storyline: I've bought Honda CRV 2016 with Connect system, it has mirrorlink integration, and I want navigation in my car badly.

So, long story short, how to revert my M8 back to android, that works with mirrorlink?
You're phone is S-ON, so it won't let you downgrade; you need to be s-off.
To move the file to your phone, try drag and drop using Windows, or take the SD CARD out of your phone and into the PC and transfer the file.
And how to do it?

You can't run either of those RUUs. They don't match your phone's CID or MID. Can't change CID,MID unless you have s-off ($25 by sunshine app).
Also, you can't "downgrade" to Kitkat from MM with S-on. If you intent is to downgrade (as it appears, in order to use mirrorlink), you need s-off .

RUU won't run anyway, due to the reasons previously stated.
But "cannot load" often means you don' t have the file in the right place. Also make sure you don't have the Windows setting to hide file extensions (usually hidden by default - highly recommended to turn this off!) or you might have accidentally named the file RUU.zip.zip and not realize it (common mistake).

As mirrorlink seems to be your primary issue, and I'm not that familiar with that(and when they changed it) I can't say for certain.
But aside from that, they are pretty minor version updates. Probably doesn't make a huge difference which you choose. But later version may have rectified some minor bugs in the previous builds.

M9 possible partition corruption?

Hi all,
I wasn't really sure how to title this thread, however I have some problems with my phone that I have been trying to sort for a few days, and have reached the limit of my understanding of what I'm reading here and elsewhere. So bear with me and I'll tell you all I know and hopefully someone can help.
I have just bought a used M9 (originally on O2 UK) which I was aware wouldn't boot into anything other than Download or Bootloader. The previous owner had tried to root it and install a custom ROM. On booting it up it hangs on the white HTC One splash screen (I left it overnight)
On booting to download mode I get the following:
***Unlocked

Initially on booting to recovery I just got an error message saying that recovery couldn't be loaded and vol up or down to go back to bootloader.
I have since managed to flash TWRP v2.8.5.0 but newer versions of TWRP will not work. They appear to flash OK but on booting to recovery I'm back to the fail to load recovery error.
From TWRP I tried to flash Android Revolution which is a known good copy and running on my other M9. The Aroma installer completes and reports success, but the phone again hangs on the HTC One splash screen (left for over 12 hours).
When flashing Android Revolution using ADB/Fastboot I get

I also have a known good copy of the original O2 ROM/recovery Package named 0PAIMG which I have used previously to restore my other M9 to stock.
When trying to flash this from TWRP, TWRP reverts to it's own splash screen then restarts.
When trying to flash 0PAIMG from a SD card in the phone I get 12 RU_ZIP_FAIL
When trying to flash 0PAIMG from a PC I get error cannot load 0PJAIMG
It appears that I can flash stock recovery images and back to TWRP with no problem
Any thoughts? And sorry for the long post!

Fortunately you stopped flashing. Flashing random files on a S-OFF phone can be really dangerous since the phone won't warn you anymore if you do something wrong.
SKU 401 is the unbranded European firmware and not O2 (=206). And RUUs aren't meant to get flashed via TWRP. You need to flash them either via HTC_fastboot (the normal fastboot will fail) or via an SD card. You couldn't use the O2 RUU since there is no 4.x RUU for that SKU and you can't use 3.x or older RUUs if a phone is running firmware 4.x.
And the phone isn't booting since the firmware pack you flashed doesn't contain a system/rom. It's as the name suggests only the blank firmware. Therefore, if the phone wasn't booting before you started flashing it won't boot after you flashed that firmware pack.
Do yourself a favor and (re-read) the ReadMe thread. After that get the phone back to 3.35.401.12 and install all OTAs up to version 4.14.401.7. If you prefer the O2 branding then use the 3.35.206.13 RUU instead of the 3.35.401.12 one. However, I don't know whether android n is already available for O2...

mtThanks Flippy. The phone came to me with the 401 firmware installed, but I have to be honest and say that I was unaware that you couldn't just install any firmware on an s-off phone. I bought this M9 very cheaply as a bit of a project to keep me entertained while my broken ankle fixes... and if I got it working to replace the one that I broke when I came off my motorcycle.
Fortunately, I have managed to get the phone to recognise the 0PAIMG.zip file by saving the file on a 4GB sd which I put in the phone, and booting into download mode without a SIM card installed. The phone has now booted up and seems to be doing everything it should.
In download mode I now have:
***unlocked
htc_himauhl PVT S-OFF
CID-11111111
LK-1.0.0.0000
RADIO-01.01_U11440792_93.00.51117G_F
OpenDSP-15.6.1.00522.8994_1026
OS-3.35.206.13
Dec 22 2015, 15:18:13(670363)
In Bootloader mode I have:
***Software Statusfficial
***Unlocked
***S-off
This all looks good now, right?
I have a stock android recovery:
HTC/htc_himauhl/htc_himauhl6.0/MR58Kbuildteam2221509user/release-keys
Assuming all is OK I intend to flash TWRP and then install Android Revolution. I'm confident doing this process and I want to get rid of the 02 bloatware
I'm not sure about installing the OTAs as you suggest as I don't really understand what I'm doing and what files to flash-is it OK to leave this seeing as the phone is now working?
Thanks,
Neil

S-OFF means the phone allows you to flash files that aren't signed by HTC. It has nothing to do with the encryption HTC uses.

As explained in the ReadMe thread using a CID that corresponds to your SKU is recommended instead of using the SCID.

Why did you flash a O2 branded RUU on an unbranded phone so that it gets cluttered with O2 bloatware if you want to get rid of the bloatware afterwards? :silly:

Why don't you use the software update function of the stock rom (which won't work due to the SCID, at the moment - however, it should work, again, if you change the CID) for that purpose? Be aware that you can't use ARHD if your phone got updated to firmware 4.x since ARHD is EOL and still based on firmware 3.x.

OK I'm going to change the CID to O2___001
I flashed the 02 branded RUU because the phone was originally on 02 when it was new and I thought that this was the best chance of getting it to do something positive. Presumably once I had got back to 3.35.206.13 I could have flashed TWRP then installed Android Revolution straight away? Never said I was an expert lol
Thanks
Neil
If ARHD is your goal and you don't want to install Android n (if it's available for the phone) then you can directly flash TWRP and ARHD from 3.35.206.13.

HTC M8 eye with official rom stuck in fastboot

Hey guys
Last night my phone(HTC m8 eye 5.07.401.1) slowed down badly, after a while it restarted automatically and fastboot screen showed up.
Things I've tried:
1-Restarting the phone after fully charging it for 1 billion times (worked once but the phone was frozen and restarted automatically again)
2- Trying to unlock the boot loader(Got the unlock_code.bin file, tried to load it to the phone using adb, it said success or done or something like that but nothing changed)
3-Trying to flash the official rom , didn't work
4-removing the SIM and SD card and restarting the phone, didn't work
by the way, usb debugging was not active last time the phone was working normally, Also the phone have not experienced any unusual activity like rooting or flashing custom roms or...
What can I do?

I don't have the "eye", only the "standard" M8, but I'll try to help as much as I can, as far as anything that I believe is common between the two M8 versions (unlocking bootloader, flash RUU, etc.).

So the bootloader screen says LOCKED? I assume that is what you mean by "nothing changed", but I want to be clear on this.

What is the exact file name? It's best to provide specific file name/version info when asking for help. I've seen a lot of cases where the person "thought" they were flashing the right RUU, but in fact, it was not even the right one.
But based on what you've described so far (bootloader will not unlock, RUU will not run, emmc error) it sounds like a hardware emmc failure.

Yes, *****LOCKED***** it says, I guess it is very serious on this one. Based on knowledge I gathered in these 2 days, I think it should show a black confirmation screen after I try to unlock it (using *.bin file), but it simply does not.

Yes you are right, RUU is the most important part and I did not elaborate. There is a big chance that the RUU is the Achilles Heel!! Exact file name is: 0P6BIMG_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4_Radio_1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_release_464360_signed

So, that's it, I'm gonna play "One last goodbye" and let the history judge. 2 years of EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY, 2 years of zero antenna...
After a silent peaceful night
You took my heart away
oh I wish, I wish you could have stayed

That is not the RUU for the M8 eye. It's the RUU for the "regular" Euro M8. That is why you have signature error. Not sure where you can find the RUU for the "eye".
One more questions, is the phone going to fastbootRUU mode after running the command: fastboot oem rebootRUU
The error "command never completed" would suggest NO. But I'm curious whether the phone actually goes to RUU mode or not. RUU mode is signified by a black screen with large HTC logo. A progress bar will also appear below the logo, when the RUU starts to install. But in your case, you my have not gotten far enough for the progress bar to appear.
If the phone does not in fact even go to RUU mode due to emmc error, then it is probably irrelevant whether you have the right RUU or not. You will not get the RUU to run, if you can't even enter RUU mode.

It has been a long time since the last time I was here but the problem is not solved. Sorry for the delay, and No the black screen with HTC logo does not appear.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of this fastboot screen? or the phone is useless
