Vol Up and Power doesn't do anything...
try "Press and hold the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons for at least 12 seconds"
Send it to me and have your mom buy you another one.

Thank you so much, it's working now.. also, for anyone wondering, bootloader can't be unlocked since there's no OEM unlock option in dev options.. :/ waiting for someone more knowledgeable than me to unlock it

forced to restart the phone uses a trackball + vol down + power
and whether it is the key combination to disable the forced phone?
Drop it to floor. It will disable it permanently.
you did so?
but I do not
Er, what, who, when, where?
You should explain what you mean with "disable".
Not just that.. You should explain the meaning of this topic all together. I really did not make much sense from the confusing collection of words you posted.
Just pull the battery out.
Power + vol down + home + search for about 10 sec then Power + vol up + menu + back for about 10 sec then Power + trackball.

Try the konami code, almost always work.
Alternatively you could ask chuck norris if he can disable your phone for you, this will work 100%.

Isn't it a case of simply holding the power button, without touching the volume button?

U have to push power button and volume up button at the same time to work. And think: If an app lags and u can't get the screen working? U can't put out the battery. This is the only exit if u don't have any PC and USB cable.

You can simply hold the power button. I've done it loads of times.
It doesn't work in lockscreen.

Just did it and works fine. Simply hold the power button.
Although the ROM you are on possibly does not have it.

I've tried it only on Sense ROMs, but it also works with AOKP/CM9 I think.

Hello XDA fellas,
Earlier, I was browsing in the S3 section, and someone has ported the S4 camera apk for S3, so without hesitation, I flashed it onto my phone.
Immediately when I reboot, my phone wouldn't go past the boot animation, so I thought... Okay, I will just flash my nandroid backup then.
But what I found out now is giving me a heart attack, my phone doesn't go into recovery, instead, it reboots if I hold down Power + Vol Up + Down for more than 4 secs... so fine... I went to Odins and reflashed CWM with a Stock Rom, but it's still not getting past the boot animation.
If anyone has any solution to this... I would appreciate it if you can share with me what you know.
Thanks.

Volume down and power button also won't work. Frozen now for 30 mins. Please don't tell me I have to wait till battery slowly runs out! Also tried the bright light trick and nothing. HELP! !

Whew! I got scared for a minute. Thanks.
I've been a good root user for a while but something isn't right after i used the Installer to flash CM 11 to my Galaxy S4 T-mo.
While i had stock rom i was able to turn my device completely off and reboot into recovery by pressing and holding in the exact order: Vol Up, Home, then Power. And CWM would pop up.
Now with CyanogenMod installed, i try the same process. It says in blue letters "Recovery Booting..." and then everything on screen disappears. I let go of the buttons and after a few seconds the same screen shows without the "Recovery Booting..." in blue letters and then i see the boot.img for CM and the regular boot works fine.
You should know however that if i hold the power button while I'm in CM and tap "Reboot Recovery" it boots into recovery fine. So basically with any root request it works. But the problem with that is if one day if i get a bootloop i cant flash to recovery and restore a backup.
I also tried flashing TWRP instead of CWM but that did not work, the same problem occured with a different recovery.
If anyone has this problem or better, has a fix please reply
Thanks, Essem G
Hold Vol up + Power at the same time (no home button) when you feel the phone vibrate, let go of power button. When the boot screen comes up you can let go of the Volume button

The sequence they stated is correct..
OP make sure you let go of all the buttons as soon as you see the 'recovery booting' in blue letters

Well either I was taught wrong or Samsung changed it but that is the way I've been doing it since the s3 and it still works.. That is not the reason its not working

Well the home button doesn't need to be pressed. I'm not saying it is the problem but the way the OP says he does it, might be the problem.

Thanks! I really didn't think that would solve the problem because I thought it was something deeper but sure enough it worked perfect. This really took some tension off my shoulders. But I'm still not sure why the button sequence changed some people are saying I did it right and I have done it this way before. No matter, problem solved

I know the problem has been solved, but out of curiosity, what gave you the idea of that button combo to enter recovery? I only ask because I've seen other questions involving the home button when trying to enter recovery and none of the guides here haven't mentioned using anything other than power+volume up/down for recovery/download mode respectively.
I saw this on galaxys4root.com and it showed a video of that combo working. The very next thing I did was try it myself and it worked. I never knew why or how it changed

It might have been carried over from the s3. Adding the home button doesn't do anything so in retrospect the s4 doesn't even notice. Power + Vol down will take you to Download mode (just an FYI)
