[Q] "Limited service" after software reset - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had trouble with this on the same device before, but had it working and now it seems to have begun again after a friend borrowed it and made a software reset.
No matter what simcard i place in the device i get a "Limited Service" message, and no calling or data is working
What can i do ? The phone is running with custom rom everything is unlocked. S-OFF, CID1111.., Custom recovery and custom rom. Not sure if the carrier is unlocked though, how can i see that?
Any suggestions ?

Maybe a reinstall of the correct firmware will reset the radio back to normal. Please try that.

I tried install "RUU_4.16.401.10_M8_WWE_Stock", which has replaced everything it seems (rom, recover etc.), but still no luck

Please try just the firmware. Maybe not ur usual wwe one. Try taiwan fw.

VU2.39 Lost Radio...Out of Service????

Beautifully working VU2.39. Then decided to add new lock ring. Totally messed up phone.
Restored with ROM Manager to prior situation, but have totally lost phone radio (and therefore phone, 3g etc.) Have tried restoring many times, tried airplane mode, wiped cache...all with no solution.
Shows no service, no CDMA or other option exists in settings, phone info shows:
Signal Strength =0
Mobile Network Type unknown
Service state= out of service
What did I do here??? How to fix???
Have now done factory reset and called Verizon. They tried to change manual codes but to no avail. Seems my radio got fried by applying the Captain America launch ring. Is this possible that that was the cause. Worked perfectly before I patched this today.
Help! I don't want a new phone as it will come with 2.3.4 not rootable.

2.3.4 is definitely rootable. And I don't think a ring would change that much. Have you tried flashing a New radio?

I tried flashing new radio. No difference.
I just can't believe that the sense link patch would have actually physically damaged the radio and killed the system, but I cannot get anything to "activate" the radio. In manual program mode ##778, the display settings say "radio version 1.09.01.0622", so the software should be there. But it cannot find the hardware.
I have matched my NAM settings and Home SID to the same as my wife (her phone is fine).

Try flashing this Radio. It's the last one on the list.
No difference whatsoever! So what do you think has happened and how and why? How could flashing the Captain America htc unlock ring have caused such destruction?
Any how could it fry or totally immobilize the radio? I really do not want to replace the phone, but am giving up hope for a solution. It's got to be either something very simple, or the radio did get fried.
And I still don't see where I can unlock and root 2.3.4 on this forum or at the Revolutionary site.

Well...... Was the lockring made for your specific ROM and phone? If not, that may be why.
Have you tried any other ROMs to make sure it's not just something interfering in the ROM itself?
To root 2.3.4, you have to downgrade the hboot v.98 to v.97 following these steps found here.
Link came from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1135020.html
SHould this have bricked the radio??
Can you resend root 2.3.4 link, as the one above goes back to the radio instructions.
Many thanks.

Post edited so the link for 2.3.4 root should work. But, yeah, that's for Thunderbolt, not the DINC2. Try flashing another ROM or full wipe/reflash of VU 2.39. Don't apply any mods until you find out if it works, and see if someone can port the lockring to the DINC2.
Wiped twice regular and dalvik, installed the clean ROM for phone I had saved. DEAD Radio. Bummer, but thanks for you help.
Mobile Network Type= unknown
Service State= out of service
This has not changed with any fixes I have tried.

What about the .722 radio?? Earlier you said you had the .622 radio which is an older one. If that doesn't work, boot into hboot and factory reset (I think this works). Then you'll probably have to re-root. Otherwise, you can get a new phone, and root via the downgrade.
Absolutely no solutions anywhere. Tried everything twice! New phone on the way. Very frustrating situation.

Have you tried reflashing the radio firmware? If you have a corrupted radio that might solve your issue

i flashed different baseband versions via cwm recovery, but it dosent worked for me.
Since you can still access the bootloader & recovery, just flash the stock rom back, re-lock & bring it back to the store. You can probably get it repaired or swap it for a new one.

my phone is not in under warrenty so there is no possibility to get a new one,one technician checked my phone he told that motherboard need to be replace.but i dont think there is any problem with hardware part.any suggestion.................
Try going back completely to stock configuration using fastboot. Don't flash anything through the recovery (even better, go back to stock recovery as well!). Also try re-locking when you're done. That way at least you can be sure it's not a software problem. If it does turn out to be the hardware after all, you'll have no choice in getting it repaired or buy a new phone I'm afraid.

Sounds like something messed up with your EFS partition. If you don't have a backup of it, it's likely something you can't repair.
Never flash radios or recoveries through another recovery. Its always safer if its done through fastboot, the way it was meant to be.

No service on latest update fok3

I'm running latest ressurection ROM and have this service issues. Sometimes its emergency calls or no sim card. I just replaced the sim tray so it wasn't that. Anyone have an idea how to fix this. Service won't come back on till I reset the phone but only works for 5-15 mins
Does anything think this could be the 4g sensor issue?
Never had any issue here M919/MDL/OK3. Odin the whole ok3 firmware and try again. (Not using ok3 BL myself, still using the old 4.2.2 one, idk if that makes any difference)

Well did you flash with odin or recovery? Stock or custom rom? Did you use the right kernel? Do you have a backup of your IMEI/EFS? Id try to find an official firmware and flash it with odin. Try one of these: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-A500H/ if you still have problems after flashing stock and dont have a EFS backup...start googling "restore imei galaxy a500h" or something along those lines....good luck and always have a backup of your imei/efs in the future.....also youll prolly get better help if you ask in that devices forum....here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/help
I think the problem was I didn't flash the modem after stock. I used the nonhls version which has given me all bars outside my home. Problem solved'
I flash the custom rom

no imei imei sv or baseband, htc one m9

hi there, I have no back up of stock, and flashed the viper rom with no luck, won't show imei or baseband even though fastboot getvar all shows that information.
1. phone is rooted and unlocked
2. used sunshine to get s off and unlock bootloader
3. supercid 11111111 activated
4 full wipe/clean several times , different roms with no luck
5 tried to flash the newest firmware maybe that will activate it with no luck, I get error stating name does not match in the android info file, tried to edit with notepad++ and entered correct information, re zipped, still giving me errors
6 tried downloading stock image files several times for my service provider, but because the file is so big, it somehow cancels when it reaches 90% network error, and dl won't restart, gotta start all over and same thing happend, cannot get a complete package to try that.
the phone works great with viper rom, its just that I can't use it because of no imei or baseband, I am guessing the previous owner erased the efs partition of the phone while trying new roms, and with backup on hand, I have no idea what to do - my guess IMEI repair or generating a new esf partition with the correct information will work, but how do I do that ?
I am not an expert, just did enough reading and spend some money to get this phone working.
If you have a better idea, or would like to help me I can compensate you for your time.
Thank you so much
it's actually not that easy to erase the efs partition (if it's there on htc devices) without much knowledge...
which operator do you have and which main_version is the original one? i noticed that superCID doesn't work with all firmware.zip don't know why, somehow i wasn't able to flash all and for some i needed to change t he cid to the one matching the firmware, even if it's x.xx.401.x firmware

thanks for writing
I had problems flashing firmware as you stated, even though I am supercid , tried once more to flash the latest firmware by changing my id's to the file, almost crashing/bricking my phone, errors, I accidental unplugged phone and it stopped, there was a don't power off warning too, but that stopped once the phone was unplugged from pc, tried again, flashed a NO WIPE firmware M9_3.35* DEV edition and after that flashed the viper rom, worked smoothly the process didnt take as long like before , and it worked, had my imei and baseband. Now it might not be perfect, because I am not getting full reception (3-4 bars at all times) but it works which is great! I will leave it like that unless I can flash a radio that is suitable for this firmware/phone (rogers/canada)
My signal indoors is 3 bars in a high signal area so you probably fixed it.

Sorry to resurrect this few month old thread, but I'm currently experiencing the same issue as the OP.
What firmware file did you flash to get things working again?
Cheers

Not enough info to be able to advise on this properly.
What do you mean "want a rom to work on my carrier"? Does it work or not on CM13? If not, what doesn't work? Are you not able to get LTE, no cell connection at all, or some other issue?
If there is an issue with LTE, you need to find out what band(s) your carrier uses for LTE. For that matter, you should also find out what band(s) they use for 3G.
If bands are the issue, flashing a ROM may not be enough. You may need s-off, change CID/MID and flash another version's firmware. Even then, you may not have LTE. Also, depending on what version of the M8 you have, changing CID and flashing another version's firmware can be dangerous (radio brick risk).
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting) so we can see more info about the phone.
Not a lot more info to have any idea what is going on.
i'm using CM13 on my sprint htc one m8 which i had purchased from us and now i am using it in India, i want to go back to stock firmware but the RUU setup always says "please get a correct Rom update utility and try again". and once i flashed the correct rom but when the device starts and i need to set it up, it asks me for hands free activation. I'm stuck there and back to cyanogenmod to use my phone.
Please help me in going back to stock.

This is all info you should have posted in the first place. The top post doesn't come close, to adequately describing your issue.
