Cannot select USB mode - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Recently I have been having an issue with my G4. When I plug it in USB to either a computer or my car stereo, I do not get the USB icon in the notification bar. When I swipe down there is no USB, so it is stuck in charging mode and I cannot use it to transfer data between my phone and computer, or play music from my phone to my stereo. I get an alert on my computer that something was plugged in, and I get the familiar charging sound when I plug it into my car stereo. It has always worked before, but the last time I remember it working was when I plugged it into my stereo to charge it and selected charge only in the usb connection options. I am running Marshmallow on AT&T.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott

[Q] Official Galaxy S II Car Dock / Holder USB to Car Stereo problem

Hi all ,
I've just bought the official Samsung car holder / dock.
i1.expansys.com/img/b/217880/samsung-car-holder-for-galaxy-s-ii.jpg
It's well made and a perfect fit for the phone (without case) but I'm having problems connecting to my car stereo.
After a bit off fiddling with settings (turning on USB debugging) I can connect my GalaxyS2 directly to my Pioneer DEH-2300UB headunit with the USB cable.
GalaxyS2 then detects that it's connected by USB. Pulling down the notification bar and clicking the USB icon turns it on. It is then detected by the headunit like it would any USB mass storage device and plays MP3 files.
But if I connect the car holder to the headunit with the USB cable, then clip my GalaxyS2 into the car holder, the phone goes into car dock mode.
I can get out of car dock mode by pulling down the notifications bar and turning it off but I can't get the the phone into USB mass storage mode.
Any idea how I can get my GalaxyS2 to detect the USB connection and not the car dock?
how about turning USB debuggin on then connect into the dock and then turning it off?
Thanks, but nope that didnt work.
Can you post a picture or link to your car dock?
I'm a newb so can't post direct pics or links so you'll have to cut and paste the link below.

Is there any setting you can adjust on your car stereo?
No settings on stereo. its an issue with the phone

Have you tried changing it from car dock to say sound station/dock?
You can turn the car dock off by pulling down the notification bar a clicking the car dock icon. Not sure if it will let the phone go into mass storge mode after that though.
Nope tried that as well
Hmm is it able to detect the phone or is it only the problem relating to playback?
The head unit detects that something has been connected and tries to scan it but because the GalaxyS2 is not in mass storage mode the headunit displays an error.
Maybe theres a 3rd party app that can change it or maybe we can trick the phone into detecting connection into something else first and then putting it into the car dock. thus it might not go into the car dock mode
Been looking around the market. There are a few apps but "NoDock" seems to be the closest to what I'm looking for.

There is a trial version. I'll re-root my phone and give it a try.
Cool. Let us know after you give it a try
BTW have you tried plugging in a female USB port and then connecting the male end to your head unit? Or maybe you could try an aux input after docking it.
I think what is happening is that the USB connection is just supplying power to the car holder.
There is an AUX-out on the car holder and an AUX-in on the headunit. I'll see if I can find an AUX cable and try it. Connected that way I think I'll be able to control the MP3s from the phone instead of the headunit.
Maybe this is a bit off-topic but can you tell me if you notice any interference noise through the dock's audio line out when the phone is not playing anything? This is an annoying issue in the I9000 with its official car dock.

What type of interference? I get the usual RF interference just the same as if you put the phone next to a speaker when in GPRS mode. You'd get that with all phones IMO.

lol. thats it then I guess. if there is already an aux out, it must be that Did they include a 3.5mm cable?

I didn't mean RF interference, that will depend on the proper shielding your audio system has (I think). The noise I'm talking about is different, sometimes it's random noise and some other times it is a buzzing that goes high and low depending on the acceleration/deceleration of the car engine... I know... weird. This does NOT happen if I connect the phone directly through its 3.5 jack and not the dock's.
Maybe they sorted it out in the I9100 car dock.

Headset shows plugged in

Hello, my phone thinks that the headset is plugged in even though nothing is plugged in. I have tried plugging things in and then taking them out and it is not helping. I am wondering if there is anyway I can totally disable the jack from somewhere in the files of the actual rom. Any help would be useful. Thanks

Standard Dock Question

I want to have a dock in my car next to my USB port (as shown) to rest my phone in and connect through USB to play music. The Bluetooth on my car isn't the best, it doesn't let me change songs through the wheel controls but USB mode does, so I need my phone to be in mass storage mode.
My question is, If you put the Atrix on the motorola standard dock and connect the dock to a PC/car does it allow you to enter mass storage mode? I'm on cm9 if it makes a difference.
If so, that would be really handy as I could leave my usb cord connected to the dock all the time and just pop my phone on and I'm good to go rather than having to physically grab the cord and connect it to my phone all the time. It'll look much nicer too.
Thanks guys.
When I plug my standard dock into my pc with a usb cable, the usb mass storage option does not appear. I get webtop, entertainment center, gallery, music, widget clock, dismiss picker, mirror phone on display, and other...and under other I only have Alarm Clock Plus...and app I have added.
Well that's not good. Maybe it'd be different under cm9 because it doesn't run blur. I've bought it anyway, so we'll see. If it doesn't work I'll just use it as a charger.
Got my dock in the mail today and unfortunately it doesn't let me use mass storage mode when connected, even on cm9. Might just pull it apart and feed my own usb cord through it.

Headphone connectivity issue

Hey All,
I just started noticing an issue with my headphone port today.
When I plug my headphones into the port as I normally do, they don't get recognized. I now have to plug it in partially until I see the headset notification icon, and then completely plug it in.
Has anyone encountered this?

Question moto g60 cant detect usbc dongle

Hello,
maybe someone can help me with my issue. Im listening music from phone through usb c using usb dongle DAC (Abigail Pro). Lately i was using Hiby Music app in usb direct mode. Now something happen and my moto dont recognize any usb c DAC or usb c pendrive. When i put in usb socket DAC or pendrive phone give a message "charging conected device via USB". I cant switch to playing music or data transfer. Phone charging normally. Phone is without root - i dont want to root cause i still have warranty.
I dont know what to do to repair it. I did a factory reset without any change. Im wondering is this a problem of software or usb socket is damaged?

Try to clean your USB port with compressed air. Also, which USB options do you have when you connect those devices? It might be that your USB port is damaged. Never happened to me on this phone, or any other phone I used. But it can happen. So, either the USB DAC is acting up, or the USB port is. So, take them one by one. See which one is likely the culprit here.
