Tab 3 7" Sprint Model - Battery drain, even when off? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an older Tab 3 SM-T217S running Android 4.4.2, rooted but otherwise stock. The battery hold-time on this is really bad. I can fully charge and leave the tablet totally powered off, and the battery will be dead within 24-36 hours or so. Shouldn't a completely powered down device hold it's battery longer than that? My Galaxy S5 phone sure does. Just curious what other people's battery performance is like.

I experience the same thing. it will barely last a day on standby. when using it the battery seems to be fine when my kids are watching you tube or something but if i dont keep it on a charger it will always be dead when i need it.

Bad Batteries
I have bought two "new" batteries and both of those do the same thing. Powered off or on with no use their dead in a day. I have a samsung tab 3 lite and I can leave that on for days without use and it will barley go down. I'm beginning to think that it may be the way that battery was made not sure if they fixed the problem or just decided to make a new tablet with a better battery. I haven't rooted my tablet but I was thinking that might help, now I'm not so sure since you say yours is rooted and its doing the same thing. Has anyone found a solution or am I just getting lemon batteries?

Battery draining very quickly in standy & when screen is on

Hello, im new to these forums so first of all excuse me if i do something wrong.
The problem: 3 days ago i got myself a Samsung galaxy note, switching from 3 years HTC. Overall i am in love with the device, but the battery is draining very quickly and with that i mean 1 to 2 % in 5 minutea or less. Most of the time i keep screenresolution at its lowest. I have to charge the phone 3 to 4 times to get through the day. It also drains alot when in standy, like 10% hour.
I'm at the end of my terms, i hope someone has got a solution, even if its temporary i'll be happy!
Kind regards
I have the 3g version with wifi. In airplane mode and standby, overnight for 10 hrs it drains 1% only. .... use better battery stats app from xda to check for kernel wake logs and what apps are draining the juice

Are you talking about the Note, Note 2, or Note 8.0 3G?
Is the 'phone' new or used?

I assume i have the note, i havent seen anything about 8.0 3g in my device or its box.. the phone is used and 1 year old
.
you're in the wrong forum man...this is for a 8 inch tablet, not a phone
Lol that's what happens when Samsung call so many devices note , note 2, note 10.1, note 8.0 people see a note forum and presume its for their device.

Ah. Thought so. You need to replace your battery. Do whatever you need to to find out exactly which Note you have, then buy the largest capacity battery available for your phone from Anker *that does NOT require a custom battery cover*. Anker make reliable batteries for a good price.
Bro, mine was even worse. I just got the note 8.0 and hadn't used it up to month. My battery went up like superman when I plugged it for a charge and dropped like flash when discharging! It was really bad man. But I had it fixed man.
#requirements#
1) A rooted 8.0
2) Download Battery calibration from google playstore
All I did was to allow the battery to drain completely, then I plugged the charger and switched it on. I allowed it to charge to 100% without interrupting.
Then I opened the battery calibration app and clicked on calibrate battery. That's all.. My 8.0 is back now. On standby with H+ I get a 3% drop per hour. Hope it works for you. Pls click on thanks if it does. Thanks

Did I get a lemon battery?

I recently got a Note 8 (for the pen) after having a Blackberry Playbook. The Note 8 charges fine, but if I put it to sleep overnight (with a full or nearly full charge, I find a low battery notice in the morning, or it does nothing unless plugged in. The Playbook will go down by maybe 10% overnight. I used the app manager to turn off all the applications I can see. Samsung support chat had me reset the device to factory settings, but the battery is still not sleeping correctly--or is it?
Since the playbook is heavier, I assume it has a heftier battery. Maybe you simply must power down the Note 8 at night? I like the device, but if I got a lemon I had better return it now.
What is the normal battery behavior on this thing? Thanks for any help. (BTW, I am a total android newbie and not looking forward to spending yet more hours working on this.

If you look in the battery option in the settings menu, it will give you a breakdown of the battery usage and should help you identify what the main culprets were in eating up your battery. My guess it would be having all the connections (GPS, wifi, etc on while the screen is off). It could be something else, either way that should help you narrow down what the issue is. Click on the graph to get a view on the hardware usage.
take it back; the battery shouldnt go down more than a % or 2 every hour when idling, so you got a dud..

hi
(i stated this in another thread while back),
i am on stock rom,not rooted and leaving Note8,in standby, overnight i get +_ 1% drainage for plus9/11...12 hrs..
i ran n test to see my battery drainage, and did 25 hrs on 6 % ( from 100% down to 94 %)
in this period i connected to web, twitter update weather update, google play update ,otherwise i left it to see results ..see screenshot
i would say its a 3 rd party app or otherwise you did not" tweak" ...3g off ,location ,etc.etc it right
My battery drain is excellent.i have had Note 8 for a couple months and also have the note 2
the note 8 gives better battery service( slightly ) but better ..in my case..
good luck

This. Don't even waste your time trying to resolve the problem. You definitely got a lemon.
Thanks--now store or Samsung?
Thanks to everyone for the replies. I just did a different kind of reset with Samsung--holding down buttons rather than going into settings. We will see. But if the problem persists, am I better of returning to Best Buy (I missed their fifteen day return window by a day or so) or using the service request directly with Samsung? (The store involves a bit of a drive.)
Update on battery
I just wanted to post a quick update. The hard reset (holding down the power and volume up buttons together) seems to have done the trick. At 1:30 today my battery read 83% and I have had it in sleep mode for 5 hours now and it is reading at 82%. Unless it is just that the meter is wrong, the Samsung Support Chat process SEEMS to have worked. I will try tonight and make double sure.
Once again, thanks to all who replied. The information really helped.
If you got a lemon, I joint to make a big lemonade!
I have a 5120 LTE.
After a full charge it doesn't last for half a day.
I paid attention tweaking everything: from LTE to 3g, saving energy mode, screen light, wifi on-off, gps etc.
Now the point is: I wanted this tablet to do a lot of things and it seems I can't really do anything.
And yes I already have a hard reset.
It's rooted so the guarantee is spoiled.
I hope 4.2.2 release will help me somehow.
Anyone suggesting a good tutorial to change the battery?

Optimus G Pro E980 Battery

hi. i just got my new phone E980. its the AT&T model. the batter is so ambiguous man... like i got the phone just yesterday, started checking out the phone and the battery was like 23%.
after LITERALLY like 10 mins the battery went to like 12%... i was like WOOOOT.....
i discharged the phone completely and then took out the battery and discharged any remaining power from phone as its recommended.
then i charged the phone to full and started using again like paystore apps downloading.
as i checked the battery from setting the idle was using like 3rd most battery in the list after screen and android OS.
what is this man??? isnt it supposed to be a phablet? is it ok for my phone to be this worst at battery. this is first ever non-Samsung phone and i m used to good battery life where idle does not take freaking 3rd most of the battery... WTF... im kinda disappointed
also can someone tell me and pls like me here any good roms and how to root this phone and also tell me which roms provide good battery life?
i will be so thankful for these links...
smiler what happened to me :\
now i need to wait for new battery to arrive
EDIT:
small tip
its might help the sudden restarting if changing the processor speed to 1ghz max
I've solve the same Issue by using an Ipad Charger because the 3140Mah battery need a 2 Ampere charger.
First day my F240L drain full battery in 3 hours, the 100% charge was fake by charging with Galaxy S3 charger (I got Phone Used without Charger), the phone show 100% charge but the value was fake.
Try a charger with 2 Ampere Output.
This metod is working with ipad charger and Galaxy Tab 3 charger.
I hope that my Hint work for you.
Now my battery works very well. yesterday i disconnect phone at 8.30 am and at the 23.30 the charge was 47%, with mid-heavy use and wifi turned on all the day.
Plus 1!

Just got a set of these and a charger and they are great!! They are fairly cheap but not crap like the VERY cheap ones. Plus they have 180 day warranty. I suggest anyone who needs a battery go for the Zero Lemon.

Sorry that's all I got but you will see in the first screen shot during the 3 days the phone was powered on and off charge, the screen used 35% of the battery. I have had 2 previous phones, TMO GS2 and ATT Note1 and never had the battery last longer than around 24-26 hours on any ROM under similar circumstances. That is with notifications enabled and data and Wifi active but Bluetooth off.
2nd screenshot shows phone was sleeping (offline) 95% of the time so if my calculation is correct, on screen time would calculate out at 4394 minutes * (100-95.4) % = 202 minutes or around 3.3 hours during the 3 days I was using it (little more than 1 hour a day). Assuming the screen was on whenever the phone was online.
You just need to press Screen to see screen time

[Q] Standby Battery life woes

So Does anyone get good standby battery? Lately, not using it, it only lasts about 2-3 days. My wife's iPad at the same point in time has about 80% charge left if it isn't used.
Thinking about switching back to Apple on the tablets for just this reason.
DId you see what causes such huge draining
Hi, did you check what is causing this huge draining? My tablet is fine, taking just 2-3% overnight.
My P600 drops 5-10% over a 24 hour period, but only drops 2-3% if airplane mode is on.
Probably you installed an app that causing wake lock. There are a lot of theads about wake lock, but for you to know is some background process that don't allow your device to enter in deep sleep. Unfortunaly, android is like that, if you install a bad app you going to have issues.
Yeah maybe, but with KitKat and no root, ferreting out problems is much harder. Seemed to be mostly fine before the last two updates I got.
Thats crazy ... Android OS should not be anywhere near that high a percentage. Have you tried reatrting your tablet a few times if not I'd say factory reset and see what happens. I must say this Tablet has had A LOT of people complaining about battery issues - seems like a product fault somewhere. Fortunatly mine is still gojng strong hopefully that doesnt change.

Yeah, it restarts itself when I pick it up and the battery was completely drained. Yesterday I had 6minutes screen on time, and was dead within 2 days of unplugging it. Bought an iPad for Christmas. Can't decide what to do here. Android seems to always have battery issues with the solution being "Factory Reset it". Annoys the heck out of me.
So, after a data wipe. Minimally installed and syncing apps, the 2 day drain is gone, replaced by losing about 3-4% at night. Now decisions. The deal was I was suppose to sell my Android tab here, and buy an iPad due to battery frustration woes. Well, it was the deal with my wife. Now I am thinking of just keeping both of them. Wonder how long I can hide it. iPad still destroys the Note 10.1 2014 on battery life....but there are a few Android things I want, e.g. Stylus, Share menu, that I believe Apple or app developers on iPad will fix soon.

Phone shutting off at 35% battery level

Ever since I upgraded to Marshmallow, the phone is shutting off at 35%.
If I plug it into a fast charger it'll start back up. Non fast charger forget it. Battery shows 35% when I plug it in to charge.
Took it to Best Buy after speaking to an AT&T tech. The Samsung rep at BB, said he ran some recovery software to check for missing or corrupted files associated with the upgrade. It appeared that they just reinstalled the 6.01 update.
Anyways it did nothing and the Samsung tech said I could try doing a factory reset or maybe try a new battery. He then said that if the problem started after the the MM update, then that's the issue. He mumbled something about the phone just wasn't able to handle MM blah blah blah.
ATT offered to ship me a new phone with a working upgrade.
Before I go that route or try a factory reset, I thought I'd check here for other ideas.
Not happy with the phone since the MM upgrade. Along with the phone shutting off issue, it's shutting off while charging on my wireless charger, phone screen is screwed up in landscape mode and doesn't show any of the buttons that show in portrait mode.
Is there a battery calibration app that will run on this without root?
I'm a computer tech, with a VZW N4. I popped over here to see if I could help a friend with the ATT N4. Looks like he's stuck without root, but saw your post and decided to reply.
I always recommend installing 'Battery Left Widget' from the Play Store and use it on the main screen. If you want to test the battery... do the following. But I'd recommend getting a new battery. It's most likely the cause of your problem.
Go to the settings and change the 'Discharging Widget Man Text' to "Estimated Battery %". The other settings can be as you wish, but I prefer the 2nd to be time remaining and 3rd to be time dead. Do the same for the charging options.
Let it calibrate for a few days. If you see a big discrepancy between the system battery (in the top right) and the widget, you've got a dying battery. Buy a new one. My Verizon version of the Note 4 started dying at 22% and rebooting. Dying battery was the cause. I knew this because it would read 72% in the top, but 42% in Battery Left Widget. And when it would get to 5% in the widget, it would start rebooting. The other battery at the top was reading much higher. A new battery fixed my woes. However the OTA upgrade to MM did a job on the battery too.
One word of advice ... turn off Fast Charging. It probably killed your battery in the first place. The original Samsung chargers will still charge it to full in a couple hours, but Fast Charging does something bad to the batteries, and they don't last as long. I know, I've had a Note 4 since day one, and I'm on my 4th battery.
A note about MM upgrade. I have to say, I wasn't a fan either. My battery didn't last as long on MM as it did on LP. The tricks about doing a full wipe didn't help. The only fix was to get my VZW model rooted and I regained control. Now I have a MM rom that actually works well and gives me 15 hours a day of usage, 3+ hours of on screen time.
What rom you are using anyway. I have changed my battery and switched to miui 8. But problem remains same with an extended battery life... But mine won't charge more than 67% and shut down @ 12% with a SOT of 3 hours and above.

I would try your battery in another device, just as a test.
Well ... mine is a VZW Note 4, not AT&T. I've used multiple roms over the past few months. I don't know what type of extended battery you are using, but if it's the ZeroLemon, it may need a better kernel to work with it. The phone doesn't know about extended batteries without additional instructions, so charging and time to empty can vary.
I just know I will NEVER buy another Samsung battery from anywhere. I think 99% of them are fake. I went with an Anker brand and it's been perfect.
Currently, I'm running MODest v5 ROM. I just installed Nseven on a 2nd device as a test. As for the MODest ROM, after only a couple of days of testing, it looks like I'll get even better battery life than I did with PaulPizz v2 (over 16 hours of heavy use compared to the 13 with PaulPizz)
Thanks for your quick reply... Im using samsung original Stock battery and there is sticker of smart care and it is from a samsung showroom
So no idea its original or not.. Should have been original... My note 4 SM 910S SK tel korian version so the rom options are very limited. Do not have any warranty period left so im confused whether i should go for a hardware checkup... Anyway im pissed of since the marshmallow arrives....the problem started right after that update.. Since then i have changed rom changed battery.. So now i guess i have to change the phone finally... Anyway thanks for your reply..
I have the same problem with charging to only 67%
If you take out the battery it will continue charging to 100%.
All this cr*p started when updated to MM
Going back to stock 5.0.1 and doing the #*0228# reset should help.
And samsung batteries are a disaster, even the genuines ones.
