Which version of Android is the best for you guys? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

It's been long enough for most users to get the jist and overall feel for the Android versions out thus far?
In your guys opinion, which is the best version for our S4?
Kit Kat, which one? 4.3, 4.4.4, Jylly bean, lollipop, marshmallow? Which one?
IMO, I think kit Kat is the overall best and optimized Android version for our phone. I think this is the highest version.meant for our phones, where it hits the sweet spot in terms of performance, and battery life. What say you, XDA?

Yeah, I'm thinking I should just keep 4.4.4.

With respect, have you tried SlimLP (5.1.1)? I really think that the battery life is pretty good. Everything works, Bluetooth, WiFi, cell data, etc. Plus there is the pie buttons, notification snooze options, and it is really lightweight and fast. But to each their own. That's the joy of all of these android variations. Everyone can get just what they need.

How's the battery life. Heard the newer versions just aren't optimized for our phones, and drain the battery like crazy. I think 4.4.4 is the most optimized for our phones, and the most recent you can get while being perfect for our phones. I think 4.4.4 is the sweet spot for our phones.

Haven't tried marshmallow so i can't speak for that. But 5.1
Works great. Also I use greenify pretty religiously so battery stats in check. And the animations get choppy sometimes so I do turn them off. Otherwise it works great, think I'll stay at 5.1.

What is the most stable version of AOKP?

Is there a version of AOKP that is comparable to the stability of CM10.0.0? I am looking for a very stable version.

All devices react differently to different ROMs. Nobody can answer this for you because they don't own you specific device. So your best bet would be to just try each one out and see which one works best for your device.
That's true what was said above. Not to mention how even using different apps can affect of your phone works. But overall, if the ROM your looking into has a lot of negative reviews I would stay away from it.

If you want a more direct answer, the 4.1.2 is quite stable. But yes, without trying them out, you'll never know :good:
The 4.1.2 Milestone build was pretty stable back when I used it, but then again performance varies. Good luck
If you have an AT&T Galaxy SIII definitely go with Task650 AOKP JB 4.2.1 he updates his ROM in a regular basis and he is one of the best developers in XDA

CM 10.1 is good. I have personally been using LiquidSmooth 3.2.1 beta right now (Android 4.2.1) and it has been very good. Very stable and good battery life, if you keep location based services turned off. On my most conservative usage, this is my best battery life: http://www.twitpic.com/bw26dx
On heavier usage, I can go about 18 hours average and still have about 30 percent or so left.
I actually Just flashed liquid smooth like 10 minutes before you posted that lol.

Good deal! Hope you like it as much as I do. You'll have to use it for a day or two before the battery life really sets in good. Kind of like a break in period for new sports cars.

It might just be me but it seems like I have lower signal on this ROM. Not sure why that would be... I'll give it a few days tho and see how I like it.

Thanks for posting.. this thread will soon be closed like the rest with the same question.....
User's mileage may vary on ANY rom. Best thing to do is try one and see how it works for you specifically. Hit the Dev section, find a rom that fits your needs, flash and try it. Great thing about being rooted... Possibilities are endless! Don't like a rom, flash another! Thanks for shopping. Please come again.

I have been using SlimKat 4.4 for over a week now and the battery lfe is pretty decent. If I'm not playing games and just calling and texting I can get almost a day and a half out of it. It makes it through a full day no problem, unless you are gaming of course lol.

Thanks, but that duration is normal for 4.3 Stock ROM for example. although for 4.4 i think it is good.

Battery life Paranoia

Is this good battery life? I guess I'm just paranoid because of the Android system usage. Any tips for getting rid of that?
By the way.. I'm using SavvyRom 5.1 with Kite S3 kernel for 4.1.2.

That seems to be wakelocks, maybe. Use betterbatterystats then google the wakelocks that appear on top of the list on kernel wakelocks. If u dont wanna change roms that is..
But that battery life isnt bad either..

Yeap, change Kernel to test performance, last Loller79 stock v.0.4 is quite good.
Like was said before it's recommend to install betterbatterystats and greenify to manage your app wakelocks.

Battery life on 5.1

After HTC released the sprint update for the M9 for 5.1, numerous developers ported it for their roms.
To anyone who has been using the 5.1 roms lately and for a prolonged time - how did it change for you?
5.0 is pretty bad for me (even though I have Greenify and PowerNap running) and I barely make it through the day.
Does it change a lot for you?
Has not improved in my opinion..
May take a while

Going from 5.0 to 5.1 should net some improvement. If you are already on 5.1 using the 2.7 version, going to 2.8 most likely won't net any noticeable difference.

IMHO, same to worse thus far. I'm giving it 2 days to settle down and running it from 100->0 -->100-->0% twice, just for good measure.

Running a battery to 0 has no effect on it's performance anymore.
I've been testing the beta Cyanogenmod build, which is built on CM12.1, Android 5.1.1.
(I'm also still on 1.32 firmware)
It isn't a Sense rom so I can't directly compare, but the battery seems MUCH better. I haven't had a chance to test for a good SOT, but even idle battery drain is drastically improved.
Noticed improvement on 2.8 based rom on 2.8 fw. But only 2 of them out ATM.
