Hello, please help me. I'm new to doing some experiments to this phone because I don't want to take a risk so I wait the warranty is expired. So, there is some question I want to ask about.
1. What happened to system update (ota) when it's bootloader unlocked with unofficial method? It's gonna be just fine like it was locked, right?
2. Can TWRP flash official ota update from ASUS? If not, then what is the simplest way to flash ota without stock recovery
3. Is it safe flash supersu from the official website with twrp?
That's all, any answer will be appreciated.

Hello guys,
I have a doubt about being root and getting the official OTA . All i have done is the next:
1. Unlock the boot loader
2. Flashing TWRP and then supersu.
3. Restore the stock recovery.
My question is if I will have problems with the OTA (because firmware, root, bl unlocked, etc...) or if everything is ok.
Thank you

If you've done some research into this you would have had the answer easily...
Root and Unlocked bootloader won't prevent OTA. After OTA you'll lose Root though but you can flash that back again afterwards.
Thank you! I did the research, but I read a lot of things about the firmware and people who has to update first the firm then the ROM and other strange things... Having to flash both things is when you are S-OFF and you want to flash a ROM right? Nothing to do with my problem?

Well you don't need S-OFF to flash a ROM but you'll need it for the firmware(Radio etc).
Yes, it has nothing to do with your question though.
S-OFF, ROOT, Unlocked Bootloader <<<These things won't prevent OTA update.
Changed system files, Deleted Pre-loaded apps(Facebook for example), custom recovery <<<These type of things WILL prevent the OTA update from installing.
and when my carrier or HTC updates both ROM and firmware by OTA? it'll works as before? (sorry for being so noob)...

Hi,
I saw there is a tool now where it is all GUI based and i can now unlock the bootloader and root my device. If i used this tool to root my phone and install something like TWRP but stayed with the default ROM that comes with my ZenFone 2 (Specifically the ze551ml ASUS_Z00AD) and i receive an OTA update from Asus, will it brick/do something funny with my device?
Also, is there a way to deroot my device if i decide i dont want it anymore? Cheers.
You need to remove root and have stock recovery, yes you can remove root...
Be careful of bootloader unlock tools, especially the official one, it tends to not work properly...
stay in stock recovery when you receive an OTA Update just unroot and install , be sure that you didnt modify/uninstall any system app.
You can unroot and modify ota file to work with TWRP. Guide is here somewhere. That way you can have updates and TWRP going for you.
Hey, I have my bootloader unlocked and my phone is rooted. If I unroot my phone through Super SU and update via OTA will it be updated without any issues?
Ok, makes sense guys, cheers for that

Can you tell me what is the apps? Thanks
I've done a little bit of digging and haven't been able to find much, or at least haven't found a lot of details that are "newer" But my question is simple, Is the n910v version, stock, 6.0.1 able to be just simply rooted?
I don't want a custom rom or anything, all i'm needing is root access to remove bloatware and freeze some apps.
any help, direction, or keywords to search for would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I used these instructions. Then after I was unlocked with TWRP installed I flashed this with Odin, rooted in TWRP and then debloated. After all this you will be on the newest update rooted and unlocked.
so I have to flash down to 5.1.1, then unlock bootloader, gain root, then flash back to stock, then update back to 6.0.1, and then It'll still be unlocked and rooted?

Pretty much but after you go back to 5.1.1, unlock, TWRP and root you are safe to go to update to 6.0.1 with this file. After you flash that flash TWRP again and install root again. After you unlock you are going to be unlocked unless you install the retail firmware and overwrite your aboot. The file I linked says stock restore but it is safe to flash when you are unlocked because I removed aboot.
I'm going to use the guide you posted to try unlock booyloader as and root. If successful, I can flash cm and gapps or do I need the deblosted romyou posted first? Thanks for your help

Of you are going to install other rom, you don't need to de bloated. Just debloat the one you're going to use as default rom..
I'm having issue with kingroot ,after it attempts to root, the phone reboots a couple times. Then I have to restart the process

Finally got it to work. Only thing I did different I did was use Kongo root. Thanks for the info

Hello,
I am currently downloading 7.2.16 (MIUI8) Developer Rom for my Mi Max, so i could unlock its bootloader since i got the permissions to do so. I have a few questions for the time after i unlock the bootloader evenyually:
1. Can i go back to the latest stable global rom and still have my bootloader unlocked?
2. Can you give me a link to suitable TWRP/Root tutorial.
3. If i succeed with the flash of TWRP and Root, would i be still able to receive OTA updates.
Thank you.

Hello, this is the best guide to root your device, also if u go back to another rom then yes the BL it will be unlocked. I think that you wont recieving OTA updates. but like i done before, u can download the rom that you want and flash through the updater app from settings
Please, before you continue download the last version of the TWRP, the newiest ( https://dl.twrp.me/hydrogen/ )- SO use the new image.
guide for rooting and install TWRP RECOVERY (http://xiaomitips.com/xiaomi-mi-max-root-install-twrp-recovery-miui8/ )
Hey guys.
I'm reading the forum over and over, reading guides but still can't quite understand few things about magisk root.
1) Is it necessary to use TWRP for root using magisk? I found a guide to patch stock rom boot.img and then flash custom rom without TWRP. This way encryption also works (I read it doesn't if you use TWRP).
What is the purpose to use TWRP at all? What are the pros and cons of each method.
2) How is OTA update handled for Samsung with magisk? Do I have to revert back to stock rom using odin each time a new update appears?
Or I can do download OTA update, apply it, then without reboot, I just reinstall magisk from my phone and everything will work?
3) Can you make signed custom rom for samsung so you can lock bootloader after root, just like people do it for one plus on this forum?
Or it is not possible with samsung?
Thanks in advance for help.

Hello,
First off I would just let you know that typically questions like this go in the Q&A section.. This is S20/S20+/S20U Snapdragon Development thread which is usually reserved for people who develop things such as roms, twrp, mods etc. etc. so be sure to ready the rules and other stickied information when considering to post just to be sure you post in the right section.
So next thing I want to say is that in order to use TWRP or root or anything custom really on a usa Snapdragon model (U/U1/W Models) you have to use paid service to unlock the bootloader IF your device is eligible to be unlocked which means you haven't updated to the latest OS, if it is, then you are out of luck for now until new method is developed using new security.
If you are unlocked already, can unlock or just want to know I will try and answer your questions now.
1) TWRP is not necessary. Neither is patching the full ROM. All you need to do (if you don't want to use TWRP) is take the boot.img from the stock firmware, patch it using Magisk app and then flash it in ODIN. Device will wipe most likely if encryption and vbmeta etc. isn't disabled already. I do not know if "encryption" works while just rooted using Magisk patched boot.img or not as I usually disable all that stuff. My guess is that in some form it would be encrypted, just not sure if it's the same thing you are referring to or not.
2) If you are on an unlocked bootloader and complete stock i.e. no root or anything just clean full stock then you should get OTA updates. If you use anything "custom" i.e. Magisk patched boot.img or TWRP installed or vbmeta disabled etc. etc. then OTA updates will NOT work. And no, you don't have to revert to stock in ODIN each time there is a firmware update. It really depends on the update but you can typically use the odin tar with home csc and it should update without wiping but at the same time you would lose root or need to re-patch the new boot.img etc. etc. but wouldn't necessarily have to flash stock first then start over. There's also "safe" updates available some posted by jrkruse in development sections. If you had a usa unlocked device that was unlocked using paid service then you do NOT want to take OTA's because Samsung has changed the way tokens are verified when device boots up so new OS can't read them and most devices have incremented the bootloader so if you did take an OTA you likely would lost your unlock and no way to downgrade.
3) No. In order to do that you would need Samsung's private keys since there is no way to load your own custom key to use.. you can't just sign it with any key.. Also, if you relock your bootloader on a USA model that was unlocked using paid service then you will not be able to unlock again.. either way, it's not possible to use a custom signed firmware then relock the bootloader and have it boot.. not on Samsung anyway..
Hope that clears it up for you.
Thanks
