Marshmallow sd card write access - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Even though I give "permission" to apps to write on sd card (by using "Select" option), my apps, including the in-built camera app cannot write to the card. Any solution?

If you have the xposed framework installed then install xinternalsd and handleexternalstorage modules..

Also when I first rooted my phone it wouldn't recognise the SD card so I put it in my PC and formatted it as fat32 , reinserted into phone and it worked perfectly....

Unrooted system. While trying to diagnose the problem, I found that my card has suddenly become read only, I can't even format the card. I tried on Android as well as on windows. Also tried SD Formatter. One of the site says to use diskpart and then use "attributes disk clear readonly". Let me see if it works.
Any other solution, please let me know.

On the Sandisk website it was written that the card automatically becomes read only when it is about to become defective - so probably that's what happened here. This is bad, I have sensitive personal info which I don't want to give to Sandisk, but I will need to give the card to Sandisk if I want a replacement Any solution?

[Q] Recomended SD card to Unbrick

Hi,so i have been trying to unbrick my phone for a while but i have not gotten any luck finding the right SD card.Until recently i have found a store which are selling so i was wondering, there is Samsung EVO 64GB card Micro SDXC UHS-I but it is a 64GB ,so do you guys think i should buy it to try unbricking my S3 or should i wait to find 16GB,cause the 64GB aint cheap.and if you think i should wait can you tell me the name of the SD card that has like 90% chance of working
I think you will need a 16GB card to unbrick, it has to match your internal drive. Both enewman17 and docholliday have good threads on the process and restoration of stock ROMs. I had to try several images before I found the right one for my ATT SGS3 16GB.GOOD LUCK!

There is a condition if you format your Ext. card as internal storage in Marshmallow. This will make your ext. card fixed to the device and you cannot remove it and access it with your computer or any other device.
So effectively you will not be able to read your card data with a card reader to transfer stuff to your computer.
That is why even I feel link2sd might be a more flexible option.

Someone else had your problem I believe. They're thread is down below. Their name is serious flash. They reported a similar thing. But not sure if they were using adaptive storage.

They also posted 2 screenshots showing it.
My personal advice to prevent possible data loss is to back up the contents of your sd card and reformat it. Then re enable adaptive storage.

Hmm weird. I guess adaptive storage is toast for now although I don't use it.
I have the same thing with the S4 Mini using Oreo (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-mini/development/rom-lineageos-16-t3851339).
I have a 128GB SD card but it shows as 256 in adopted storage. I used adb to use only 25 percent of the card as adopted; the remainder being formatted as FAT32 so as to be able to access it from other computers. Maybe that has something to do with it? If anyone has the same problem please report. This is probably a bug in Android.
