every battery recalibrator i know of needs root. my phone likes to die at 25% because i made the mistake of getting an att phone.
anyone know of a battery recalibrator that will work without root, aka on our note 4?
i've tried the whole, discharge battery fully and charge it back up, this got me to where it would die around 4% which was an improvement, but now a week later its dying at 25% again..
It's so sad such an easily fixable bug can completely cripple my phone because it doesnt have root.
anyone know of a battery calibrator, or method, aside from just cycling my phone dead/full/dead/full over and over.

Battery recalibration is just a placebo as long as you're using a stock battery. Ever since the Galaxy S2 days, battery calibration has become obsolete.
The only 2 exceptions are:
1) If you're using a cheap 3rd party battery, where they may claim that the mAh is equal to or greater than the stock battery, but in reality, it's so cheaply made that it's actually lower.
2) If you're using an extended battery that's a double or even triple layer/stack battery. In this case, the phone reads the battery incorrectly since it reads the battery stack-by-stack. In other words, when the first stack is nearly depleted, the phone will read the battery level at say 15%. Then, the second layer kicks in, and suddenly, it confuses the phone and it then thinks that it's got 40% battery left, then 60%, then 90%, etc.
The only solution to fix these two issues is to tweak the kernel (unlocked bootloader needed) or to just use a stock battery.
So in conclusion, I'd your phone isn't reading the battery level correctly, then it's most likely your battery. You'd want to get an OEM one and not some Chinese 3rd party battery.

I wouldn't consider the manufacturer's suggested charging cycles to be "random anecdotes" even if they're not published in a peer reviewed journal.
"Completely draining" should not be practiced on a regular basis with lithium ion. You can't (or shouldn't be able to) reach an actual complete drain before the phone shuts down. If you could (or ever do) the battery would become useless to you as there is a point of low discharge where lithium ions can no longer be charged by a standard charger.
And while most of the time the shut down of the phone and the subsequent charger connection happens before this point - there have been plenty of people who have let their phones go till they shut down then go to charge their battery only to find it will no longer charge.
So every time there is a drain of your battery to the point your phone shuts off you get real close to that point where you will no longer be able to charge that battery (unless your one of those techno chemist electrical engineer types with all the appropriate tools and materials handy).

And i know i've read somewhere about someone suggesting that people go through this arduous process of draining the battery to a point, charging it fully, draining it completely, and charging it fully again (or something crazy like that... i don't remember exactly) to make the phone detect the full capacity of the battery and avoid any "memory effect", and i believe that whole idea was even shot down by someone at Google who works on the Android OS as being a complete crock.
I really don't think there is any PROCESS that can be done to give you the optimal battery life, aside from what can be done to prevent apps from draining the battery constantly. Some people recommend having a fully charged battery, or having the phone plugged in when you wipe the phone and install a new ROM... i've rarely done that. I've even wiped and installed roms at like 40% battery life... sometimes a bit lower. But in my experience, battery life has more to do with the ROM being used than what you did to try to MAKE the battery life better.
Running a touchwiz-modded ROM like DrewGaren's Serenity and stuff, i'd generally be lucky to get a full day of battery life seemingly no matter how much or how little i used the phone. I'm not what i'd consider a heavy user.... haven't really used my phone much all day today, though it did spend a good portion of the day on the charger. But i'm running the latest build of Task & Ktoonsez AOKP ROM, and it's been on battery for 9.75 hours and is still at 85%... but that's only with 20 minutes of screen time.
Anyway.... all i can say is from my own personal experience, but i don't think there is really any definitive process one can follow to improve battery life beyond what the software itself will do anyway.
Whether or not it has any effect on actual battery performance i would say that running a 'full' cycle or two of drain and charge for android to learn the battery capacity. Probably doesn't have much affect on a stock battery but when i purchased my 4400mah battery it took a few cycles to get an accurate reading from the charge meter. It would drain down to the warning in what it was expecting the stock 2100mah to be dying and ran FF3 for atleast 2 hours non stop on 1-5% until the battery actually gave out. On top of that it couln't decided how much it really wanted to say was remaining, it would jump up and down a percent or two, obviously confused of what to do. Whether or not its necessary to run it to this point is debatable, but with android or myself not knowing how much charge was actually left in the battery i did.

My device is GT-N5100 with a custom KK TouchWiz based ROM
I have terrible with battery percentage meter incorrect.
Sometimes charging form 30% to 60% it's suddenly jump to 100% but still charging for a long time may be long than 1 hour to show battery full.
And sometimes with discharge ,battery percentage meter show much than 16% then suddenly depleted battery to power off itself.
I also ever face this issue from stock KitKat.
Any way to fix it ?

Hi, Yes I have this same problem. Don't know why it happens and don't know how to fix it. Charging for a long time and very little % increase leave it for a little while longer and it pops up to 100%. No idea why it does this.

A battery pull (I.e. disconnect the battery for 15-60 mins) will help reset the fuel chip, but the issue with incorrect calibration will eventually return over time. Rooting the device, installing Xposed and the Wanam Xposed module and disabling Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) once you've performed the battery pull helps a lot to prevent the issue from returning. Deleting Battery Stats does absolutely nothing.

I ever disconnected battery two times but it can not help just little different (before disconnect battery 50% after connected increase to 67%)
I will try Xposed module to disabling Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling and I will report you back.

Your battery is dying. Change it to a new one. Buy a new one off ebay & do it yourself, its fairly easy.
His battery *could* be dying, but a bunch of us with Note 8s have encountered the same issues with reported battery voltages jumping all over the place resulting in the fuel chip thinking that, on average, it has 40% less juice before it thinks it's empty and dies. The net result is that many people are getting 3-4 hours of battery life, rather than the 7-10+ hours they should be getting. Someone on these forums tracked it down to how DVFS interacts with how the fuel chip gets calibrated over time and another person managed to snag a copy of the fuel chip's data sheet but the instructions on the sheet on how to reset the chip in software didn't seem to work, hence the battery pull needed to reset the chip to use its stock curves.

I went the new battery route with a New Power 99 one from Amazon. Nerve-wracking as Hell to put it in cuz I didn't want to screw my device up but really was easy. Now zero problems. How long this will last is, of course, the question. But even if I get another year out of it that'll bee good. I suggest you try that.

Hi everybody
I have the same problem with my n5100 device, my battery % suddenly jump when charging and when discharging. So, I have returned my tablet to the post sale customer service as part of 1 year of warranty, they have changed the motherboard and now it work perfectly:good:. Actually the problem was not related to the battery
After month testing with an ebay cheapie knoxed 4.4.2 Note 8.0... All Samsungs have DVFS in the Touchwiz's build. The only way to fly is to disable it with wanam kit or DVFS disabler or Wanam xposed. Though I rather live with unplugging and plugging back in the power than to deal with Wanam's battery sucking issues with KK. Until wanam is redesigned for KK, I'm staying away.

Last weekend, I experienced the most unusual occurrences where my Note 7 battery just drained within minutes while at least half full. I was browsing the internet on my phone waiting for a drink. I put the phone down to pick up the drink, and when I went back to the phone, I could not interact with it. I pressed on the power button for a few seconds, nothing. Went back to the car and plugged it up and there it went, it was out of power. I first thought it was weird, cause I could have sworn I had at least 40% batter left. Ok, whatever, that night it happened again. I'm pretty anal about battery power, so I will definitely notice when my battery reaches a low level especially so low that power shuts off.
Ever since the two incidents my phone has been running fine during the week. Just right now, I noticed my battery was at 39%, so I was like ok, let me plug it in and give it some juice before I leave work. I stepped away for a few seconds and come back to my phone and see it at 11%, I was like what?? I unlock my phone, and seeing it go down 10%, 9% while its being charged...I started "close all apps", still going down 8%, I go to settings, "optimize" and optimize all, nothing, 7%, finally drag down notification, close the Tidal app widget, and clear all, think what was left was Good app. 6%....keep watching the battery screen...7%...few seconds more 8%. PHewwww....
WTF was that?? Was it a rogue app that was sucking up the battery? But what triggered it? I checked GSAM battery tracker, Android System at 35% CPU usage 6h 9m, next is Kernel 11% 1h 56m, then Good 5.3% 55m..Instagram 4.9% 52min....
Its happened to me 3x within a week. GSAM is not telling me any info on what is causing this.
Any ideas?

Get rid of it ASAP!
When batteries discharge faster than expected they can generate heat, this heat can trigger the bad battery "explosion" we are all fearing.
This sounds like a prime situation. Shut the phone off and leave it off.
Get it replaced ASAP.

Something is really screwed up with the either these batteries or the phones themself. Worst decision ever was to not make the battery user replaceable! My Note 7 is going back once the replacements are available.

Yup...I don't believe its the battery but something in the OS. I don't really care about removable batteries, but this battery fiasco, the lag, the battery drainage we experiencing...I think I'm done guys. I'm still on the fence, but leaning towards to the Iphone 7 Plus.
I honestly think it's something in the battery. The way they're exploding and the way it randomly drains points to battery issues. Plus if it was a software issue, Samsung would have pushed an update a long time ago. It's much easier to push an update than recall every single phone. I personally think the chemistry in the battery is off, that's why we get random drains and exploding batteries. Regardless, mine is getting exchanged as soon as the replacements are available. Btw, mine has been doing the same thing for the past week, so I know about having 50% or more of battery and it going completely dead. That's can't be because of the software. The phone would get hot if a rogue app was draining that fast. Not to mention I've never seen a rogue app drain a battery instantly...

This could also be the electronics not accurately determining the batteries voltage. In turn, allowing the battery to charge well above what's safe (3.7v battery charged by a 5v charger)- and if there's one thing you don't do to lithium batteries it's overcharge them.

If the battery is not defective and it's the Power Management Circuit which is problematic, then the risk will even be more disturbing than the idea of having a defective battery. Anyone knows whether the Exynos variant is also using Qualcomm power management IC?
This is the extent of what Samsung is saying:
Based on our investigation, we learned that there was an issue with the battery cell. An overheating of the battery cell occurred when the anode-to-cathode came into contact which is a very rare manufacturing process error."
The leads shorting doesn't represent a problem with the cell - overheating/exploding would be normal in this situation.

That's likely just a bad battery. Have you tried replacing it?
If you're rooted, are you running an abnormal size battery capacity? What ROM and kernel are you running?
Only calibration I'm aware of is charging fully with power off. Boot system and make sure it's fully charged. Discharge fully and recharge fully again. It's basically self calibrated but that may help to fully realize the max mAh in battery apps. Try not to use the phone while charging fully on those cycles.
I don't like discharging fully until shutdown but it's not supposed to harm the phone's memory doing that. With eMMC failures this phone is known for, bad battery and 0% shutdown or other battery shutdowns should be avoided when possible, IMO. Just a thought or suggestion.

Phone is completely stock. Was planing to upgrade to the Note 7 but we all saw how that went. I need my SD Card so the Note 5 is out for me. Battery is stock as well. As for when it diess it depends on what I am doing if I am playing a game like emulators/Pokemon go it tends to die quicker and near 60% while lighter tasks like general web browsing and texting it tends to get closer to 40% before dying. So yeah its like the OS doesn't know the size of the battery right and it doesn't keep up on heavier loads.

Theory is a bad cell shuts down depending on load. So the % at shutdown for bad battery may vary. Camera use or gaming may load it and shut it down quicker.
The battery is actually only rated at 500 full cycles. Depending on use, that may last a year, maybe two years with good battery habits but it breaks down.
If it's been a year since replaced that's probably the reason. Some users may not get a year out of a new battery.
If batteries aren't stored properly, their shelf life may not be ideal for longevity. If you want to keep spares, they should be stored at 50% capacity for maximum effectiveness. So if you order an older stored battery and it arrives near dead, it's been stored improperly and too long; these batteries have very little drain when not used.
A fresher battery or properly stored should last the end user longer.

I'm aware the battery life on this one is not really good. That in mind.
-Example, (nothing running on background, everything but wifi off) using it normally until 14%. Pushed sleep button.
-Turn screen on like 5 mins after and it was 15%, used it a bit then again screen off.
-Turned screen on about 6 minutes later and it was 5%.
-Drained it to supposedly 1% then phone turned itself off.
-Turned phone on again and it was 2% and stayed like that for 10 mins while scrolling twitter with 30% brightness, until it turned itself off again and this time battery is to low to turn on.
Tried factory reset, draining till absolute 0% then 100% multiple times but so far nothing works.
Battery's health is good and factory original, no water, no heavy drops.
Let's say i root it (as far as i know its possible in all models), question:
Is there a way to push battery stats to make battery readings accurate?
Or what do you suggest? thanks.

What you have is normal.
My owen device jumps frpn 12% to 15% after heavy and log use, thats normal, cause battery is cooling down/pre-ucomputed Energy is not consumed and Battery is calculated new.
The other Jump from 15 to 5 thats somthing you should watch closer. did that happen often?
all in all I have a sugestion but answer this first.

Well thats one solved, it wasnt a sudden jump but rather a few minutes discharge doing nothing at all.
Battery is as old as the phone, 2015 and usage, i dont know for sure since it's an import US carrier phone sold to me locally, seems like it was a test phone like the ones you can try at stores. I would say battery use isnt any different than it would be in a daily usage and even if not, would be very rare for a li-ion battery to degrade in such a small amount of time. Gonna ask the seller.
Another thing i notice is very fast battery drain while playing music. I listen to music from home to work, like a 1 hour trip and when i got of home with 81% when i get to my job im at 68%.
And yeah stock everything with android 6.0, as i said currently not even rooted.

with Music You meen Mp3 or stream? (stream drain battery much faster)
Try custom Rom and titan kernel if u dont need stock services, otherwise rootand use greenify or other.
on Stock i Had SoT of 2 hours max. now i am back to 3 Hoeurs (i´m heavy user some days...)

Already using greenify. Charging 2 times a day, 1 before going to work, 1 when i come back, plugged while using it.
MP3 from stock music app, since i read somewhere a 3rd party music app caused an user a battery drain-

Greenify is much better with Root
first you must unlock your Bootloader.
there are 2 Otions at the moment. Official (don´t know if possible for H810) and USU by @steadfasterX

Just by a new battery. Original battery can be found for about 8$ at least here in Sweden..
I believe this is normal.
My H815 had it with both the original and a new battery. It used to be really bad when you charged it to 100%, restarted and it would drop immediately to 80%.
Also, especially on stock LG stuff (the graph on custom ROMs seems to be smoothed out), the battery graph was a mess of random spikes and dips
