XDA 2s Wifi Guide anyone?

Hi guys, I recently destroyed my XDA2 and got a 2s on the insurance
Bluetooth on WM2003 SE if fair poor, but I managed to upgrade the stack thinger to 3900..... so I'm not completely XDA illiterate.
However, the wifi baffles me! I have access to an unsecured wireless network with internet access, and my 2s will connect to it. When I go on the the internet on my XDA, even with wifi connected it still tries to connect GPRS to use the internet. If I keep clicking cancel, it will load the page (presumably through the wireless network's internet access).
It has become clear that I have no idea what I'm doing with regards to networking. Could someone post a quick guide as to how to set up the wifi (from scratch) so that when it finds an unsecured network it will automatically use it for the internet.
Sorry if there's already a thread on this but I really can't find it. Cheers guys

just what i need as well, i have just bought a wifi router so i can use the internet on my xda2s.
using the wireless manger -> wireless LAN manager i get:
STATUS: connected to network
SSID: NETGEAR
TX RATE: AUTO
MODE:INFRASTRUCTURE
CHANNEL 11
BSSID: 00-09-5B-D7-DC-2A
MAC: 00-09-2D-0B-C0-A6
but even when i pull the Ethnet cable (forgot how its spelt) out of the back of the router it still stays connected. so im thinking its more my PC than the xda. the thing is the router came with no software so i have no idea if its connected properly. when i pull this Ethnet cable out of the wifi router o get network cable unplugged. The network card is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Which I have never used.
if anyone has a any ideas it would stop me pulling my hair out.

Mike, I dont think the wifi first and GPRS next works. It doesnt work properly on mine either. If I try a internet access via gprs and a local wifi is readily available, the system does not automatically switch to local wifi.....I think this could be a microsoft issue than a xda issue.

when u pull out the ethernet cable from the back of the router, can you still surf the net from you xda or PC?? that seems odd. So either you are not connecting to "your" own router, or someone else has a same router with unsecured setup and you were locked onto their service....if you follow what I mean. what happens if you kill the power to your router? you should definitely notice that the wifi service disappear in your xda and PC.
Dont expect a router to disappear by simply unplugging the ethernet cable, if the router is powered up, it will show up on your xda and the PC although obviously there will be no internet access.....

sorry if i wasn't clear. i meant i was still receiving a signal from the wifi router. i could never use the internet on the pda

i can browse my pc files wirelessly using resco explorer, using the standard file explorer i can view the pc files using \\network/c and i have finally been able to connect to activesync.
however i still can not connect to the internet.
Any ideas, from looking on this forum it seems lots of peeps are having problems with this but nobody seems to have the answer

I'm new to the forum and new to XDA2i (presumably XDA2s is same!) ....
I too had many frustrations connecting the wi-fi...but now I've cracked it, here's how.......
On first very first use (or following a hard re-set) device users are prompted to choose “What do you want WLAN to connect to?” The option bullets are ‘Internet’ or ‘Work’….’Work’ should be selected, this will connect them to the nearest WLAN (if this network is WEP encrypted it should be switched to ‘Open’ rather than ‘shared’ as is often the case).
Next prompt asks for any WEP Encryption ‘Pass Key’ to be input, when doing so omit any ‘-‘ between character pairs. Normal start-up should then be completed. Once device is up and running…..
From ‘Start’ pull-down on the ‘Today Screen’ select…. ‘settings’>’connections tab’>’connections icon’>’advanced tab’>’Select Networks’> pull-down ‘My Work Network’ > ‘OK’ out of selections to save and exit.
Go to ‘Wireless Manager’ in programs, select WLAN icon from main screen (which should turn green to show active), then select mini ‘WLAN’ icon from lower toolbar to see the status of the connection, quality of signal etc.
That did it for me......

[Q] Fire TV Wirless/Hotspot

Hi, I currently have my FTV connected to my router using a wired connection. I tried to make a wireless hotspot using FTV by using the Wifi Tether Router app. It works fine. I can see the access point and I can connect my laptop and my IPhone to it and surf the internet without any issues.
The problem starts when I connect FTV to my router using the build in wireless card. At this point, if I enable the router (through the app), it disconnects my outgoing wireless connection from FTV to my outside router. The hotspot is ON and working, I can connect to it fine with my laptop, but of course, its useless as there is no outside connection.
My question is, is this possible? Using the internal wireless infrastructure in FTV to both act as a software router (through the app or any other app) and also use it for my outgoing connection to the WAN. Can it do both simultaneously? If possible, does anyone have any suggested settings for this app (Wifi Tether Router)
If no one has any experience with this app, is there other app that makes this possible, paid or free? Thanks.

You only have one radio which can either be used as a client or access point.. But not both at the same time.
This works on phones as it uses the GSM or CDMA radio for the wan and the WiFi for lan.

Ok, thanks. If it helps, I have a USB hub connected to FTV. My wireless keyboard and mouse combo is hooked to that and works. I have a Wireless USB adapter from CompUSA (the kind you plug into a desktop to get wireless capability) which I can use by attaching to the USB hub. Can that somehow be used to accomplish this? I know I can always buy a Wifi as WAN router like CradlePoint, but curious if this can be done through FTV.
Edit: In a way, the next logical question is, can an external USB wireless adapter be used with FTV for its outgoing WAN? If so, how? I have the StickMount loaded and I can browse through another storage USB through ES File Manager. Probably not related, but thats the setup I have now.

Doubt there are drivers for a USB WiFi dongle.

This is what I'd try. I'd look to see if other Android STBs can run an external wireless card and if so, try to find the cheapest one with the same wifi chipset.
The problem is going to be in telling the OS to use one adapter for uplink and one for hotspot duty. In theory it's possible, in practice - well, keep the cost of the second dongle below 30 bucks and tell us your findings.

that link is to the refurb, new they're just north of 50. Here's a similar one that goes new for 25-35

Basically, you configure it (connected to a PC) then you connect the device to the ethernet port on your fireTV, it acts as a bridge to the wifi network over the ethernet, so potentially you could then use the wifi onboard as your access point.

IMHO if your gonna drop $ might as well by an access point.. They can be had for cheap and you won't be tying up your firetv handling network traffic.

Just that in your initial post, you describe running ethernet to your fire and also getting the wifi to work as a hotspot.
Since you'll still be delivering network to the fire ethernet port, this setup will look to the fire as if you've run ethernet to it all the way from your router, and it ought to work just the same.

Not doubting this on FTV, but the matricom mx2 boxes can be used as a wireless hotspot as long as you have it on ethernet.
Once you have an unlocked bootloader, you might have acess to traditional android settings like the mx2 with a custom rom. Just an idea...

He's already done that.. Said so in first post.. He is looking to do a hotspot and get internet both from WiFi.

That is correct. Works beautifully with ethernet WAN. Works so well that it seems to have a higher broadcast power than my oldish Netgear router. They both sit side by side in my bedroom. As soon as I walk to my garage, my IPhone loses the router, but with FTV it stays connected, with 2 semi circle bars. Also, it chugs along even when FTV goes into sleep mode.

Instead of a dedicated device you could purchase a chameleon type of device like this.

[Solved] No connect to network with my 3G dongle

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my 3G dongle.
When I plug my 3G dongle (a huawei E1752 which work fine on Windows) on my android head unit :

Did you check the APN settings?
Did you try any of these:
install a APN config App and chekc APN-Settings there
use script call-pppd
remove the PIN Number form your card
move to a place with better signal strength
try the stick on a laptop to verify it works at all
connect the 3G to a powered USB hub (see hardware modifications section for more details on this)

Finally it was the PIN code

Wifi connection problem

Hello guys how are you?
Recently I bought a Dasaita PX6 Android 10 for my Toyota CHR. Camera working OK, Sound OK... but I have a problem with WIFI connection.
As soon as setup my phone as hotspot, I search that WIFI on DASAITA. I find it and connect to it but as soon as IP address is raised WIFI turns off automatically.

I had the same issue. I think it has to do with the Zlink app which tries to put the HA in hotspot mode. I managed to switch on wifi after closing the Zlink app manually and disabling the hotspot in the dropdown menu(the icons which appear if you swipe down from the top of the screen). Unfortunately the wifi connection with the hotspot of my iPhone is nog always stable. Sometimes it disconnects after a couple of minutes.

Yes, a saw that, but as far as I can see, you did not disable the hotspot before turning on wifi. I needed to do that as well.

I think as soon as wifi is set to ON, hotspot turns off automatically. It can be shown also on the video.
Actually I use CAR PLAY but I would like to swap between both options with no connection problems :crying:

I thought my suggested method worked, but today it did not work for me either. I agree with you that this is quite annoying. Hopefully someone else can help us out.

I have this unit. What works for me is to use usb hookup for CarPlay, then you can use phone hotspot on radios WiFi. You have to turn WiFi on a few times after connecting phone through usb for it to stick. For wireless CarPlay, the radio uses the WiFi resources and turns off selectable WiFi.

the problem for me is that my iphone is not connect well to the bluetooth of the Dasaita, the issue is that i can't answer or make a call through the Dasaita (android)..... When i'm able to connect to BT and the Zlink start then the BT disconnects, when switch shut down Zlink app BT won't connect anymore

I think Syoung (above) is correct.
Obviously you can't run hotspot and wifi at the same time. It's one or the other.
If watch the video closely, the hotspot is off. As soon as wifi is turned on and the phone connects SOMETHING turns the hotspot on (you can see it getting turned on at the 19 second mark in the video), which in turn shuts off the wifi.
Maybe try completely disabling hotspot and see what happens

Well. I tried to connect the iPhone to the car via USB cable to launch CARPLAY. I think my car USB port that actually y also connected to DAISATA doesn’t support CARPLAY. Maybe I need to connect another cable to the back of DASAITA module to make it work.
In addition about the HOTSPOT. The DAISATA HOTSPOT is automatically set to ON to link with iPhone CarPlay.
If I turn it off as soon as my iPhone is near (also set use with CarPlay) hotspot back to ON and CARPLAY IS LINKED AND LAUNCHED.
Do you know if I need to use another cable connected to usb connector located in the back of DAISATA??

Hello again. This is what I did and noticed:
- Car usb socket (connected to Daisata) doesn't work with USB CARPLAY.
- I connect the extra usb port to DAISATA.
- CARPLAY via USB working OK on that port.
- If using WIRELESS CARPLAY, Dasaita acts as hotspot creating a WIFI network where iPhone connects automatically.
- Now... I connect the iPhone to the new USB port for CARPLAY ( working ok and connecting faster). I disabled Hotspot from DASAITA. I turned ON WIFI and connect Dasaita to my iPhone hotspot . ALL OK.
So as somebody said is not possible use WIRELESS CAR PLAY and also have WIFI on Dasaita software.
I think connecting the iPhone to the new port we have the 2 connections ( car play and wifi) and on the other hand we can recharge the iPhone.
BUT.... now I need to solve another problem. I don't know why I need to switch off the Hotspot on iPhone each time I want The Daisata connects to the iPhone Hotspot. If I leave the hotspot always ON ( as it MUST BE) the wIFI that iPhone creates doesn't appear on DAISATA. As soon as I switch OFF then ON DAISATA connects in 1 sec to my iPhone

I went into the zlink app preferences and turned off autoload and control system settings. This seems to stop zlink from turning everything back on when you turn it off. Been working for a few days. I do not however use android auto. You would need to play with the app to see how it functions without those permissions.

What helped me today was a complete "power off". A restart.

I had a similar issue. I recently purchased a Dasaita HD5367-H10 unit and I've been having some trouble with the WiFi.
When the unit turns on, the WiFi turns on and it connects to my phone's hotspot. Shortly after it connects, the WiFi turns off and I have to manually turn it on again. This only happens once upon boot up and it works fine for the rest of the duration. Once I restart the unit, the issue occurs again.
I think I found a workaround. Disabling ZLink from the Factory Settings menu seems to "fix" the problem, but now the ZLink daemon service is not working.

[PX6][MTCE][Android 10] LTE 4G Stick working partially

Hello people,
hopefully i am in the right Thread.
I am using now for few days a LTE 4G (from AliExpress) Stick in my car.
Its connected to the USB Port of my Pumpkin Radio.
After few minutes the App EasyConnection-CarbitLink starts and the Stick is NOT connecting to the internet and the WiFi is not enabled. This is very annoying.
So i have to forceclose this app EVERYTIME when i am turning on the engine of my car.
But even then the Stick lose ,while driving, sometimes the connection to the internet and Wifi.
I already tried the Stick at home and have no problems.
Any recommendations?

Hi, mobile-freak.
I also suffered this same problem altought it happened with a Huawei dongle.
The problem is: dongle tries to comunicate by the usb port with HU, but there´s not compatibility in communication.
The only thing you have to do is connect the dongle to a 5V universal usb charger and dongle will connect to the ISP and will establish a wifi network to which you´ll be able to connect without more problems.
This way, EasyConnection will not start.

I got one with WiFi and 4G, USB is only used for power. So I connect with WiFi from the HU to the dongle.
