Desire 820n - Black Screen, Orange Blinking LED and QHSUSB_BULK - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I got a HTC Desire 820n who won't turn on, after being unused for some time. This is not my phone, so I don't really know what has been done with it.
When I plugged it with the wall charger, the LED is blinking orange. I let the phone like this for 2-3 hours, unplugged it and try to turn it on, but it didn't work. Tried holding volumes button + power button for approx. 2 minutes, nothing happened.
I opened the phone, disconnect and reconnect the battery, try to turn it on, nothing. Plugged it to the wall charger, the LED is still blinking orange.
I tested the battery with an multimeter, and it says ~3.9V. On the battery, it is written 3.82V
When I plugged the phone on my PC, a device called QHSUSB_BULK is detected.
I went to a lot of thread and other thing here and on other sites, and I can't seem to find a solution, if there's one obviously...
Is there anything I can try to save this phone ?
Thank you.

Being detected as QHSUSB_BULK is mostly because of a Hard-bricked phone, but if your LED is turning on it might not be Hard-bricked, so the only guess is that the battery is in sleep(or whatever you call it when it is not turned on for days) and you need to shock it with higher voltage that requires a special device and cant be done with plugging the charger for longer hours
So take it to a repair shop and they might be able to help you out hopefully

Thank you for your response.
My device is now shown as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in the device manager. Does that make any difference ?
Can I shock the battery myself ? Using an cut out USB cable plugged in my PC ? Or is it to risky ?

It happened to me as well. Before the blinking orange light it got very hot and froze.
Sent it for repairs on friday. Will let you know what's wrong with it.
Sent from my SM-T710 using XDA-Developers mobile app

I am Having same PROBLEM?? Any solution for this ??

is there anything i could try short of wiring up a JTAG programmer to revive a dead Universal?
the device is totally dead.. doesn't power up or reset into the bootloader (tried power/light/reset, etc)
windows doesn't see the device either.
the only thing i noticed is that when i plug the charger, the charging LED goes red..
i swapped batteries to one that's fully charged.. plugged the phone into the USB port of a vista box, and the new hardware found beep came up.. then windows said device isn't recognized.. still i couldn't go into bootloader, and when i tried hooking up the charger with this battery, the LED didn't turn red.
it only does with the dead battery.
bottom line is, it seems that the device has some sort of life left in, as a charged battery does cause windows to "feel" the USB connection, albeit not recognize it.
any tips?
i think you must close USB Conncetion on Active Sync
then
press light button + power + reset to entering bootloader mode
then
if you want back to your rom you must have Uni_exitbootloader.exe
are you using vista?
try using xp and active sync 4.5
just try my friend
Hi,
any success in entering bootloader on your device???
If not, you're not alone

We started a thread about using the JTAG interface on the universal hardware.
Please have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353072
Unfortunately all this stuff is not trivial and there's no solution so far to bring a dead device back to life. But maybe some day it will be solved.
If you are patient enough to read the whole thread you will get an idea of what we've checked out in the last weeks and where we got stucked
Never give up!

Phone Won't boot anymore :(

Hey guys,
I’ve got a problem with my xperia play - it won’t boot anymore.
I bought a cheap battery from china and after replacing the original one with the fake one the phone wouldn’t boot anymore.
I’ve tried to charge my phone (with the original battery) overnight but it didn’t help.
While charging the red light keeps blinking in a 4 seconds interval but apart from that nothing happens.
I’ve also tried to start the phone without the battery with the usb cable plugged in,but it didn’t help.
Furthermore charging it via a usb cable over the computer didn’t help and the red light just kept blinking in the 4 seconds interval.
And of course I can’t boot in recovery mode/fastboot mode, and the phone doesn't vibrate at the start of the boot progress ,either. I’ve also already tried the ‘’freezer trick’’ (to put the battery in the freezer for a few hours)but as you’ve probably guessed that ‘’trick’’ didn’t help me at all.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.
over 77 views and still no answer.
can anybody help me please.
i would even donate some money if it would help my phone to boot.
thank you in advance.

Clicked thanks instead of quote ignore that, it sounds like a battery issue and probably has nothing to do with the fake battery, if you do a search around the internet it goes on about the battery being dead, why not try plugging the phone into the wall outlet letting it charge a bit, removing the plug after a while and keep doing it, might kick start the battery to charge again.
Another thing you could do is take it to a local sony centre and try out an official battery, if it still doesnt work send the phone to sony, it might be a hardware issue, and if you've bought it in the past year you are still in warranty, don't worry if you've done any mods to it, they check the hardware, usually erase the software and revert to stock
Ok,thanks for your help.
I'll try charging the phone overnight from the wall outlet and I gonna reply tomorrow.

hi,
unfortunately it still doesn't work.any other suggestions?
Try my last suggestion
i.e. Sony original battery or send it for repair

[Q] BIG PROBLEM -phone dead?!

Hello,
I understand much about computers, but little about phones.
I woke up today and realized i forgot to charge my phone. It had a steady red light on the power button and no reaponse from any button (the screen was black also) so i just took out the battery, waited two seconds till the light went off, poped the battery back in and
i get NO response at ALL?
I figured the battery was just dead so i plugged it into the wall, after ten minutes.. nothing. the light never even lit up indicating it was charging!
SO i pluged it into my laptop, and same result. Windows7 doesn't even recognize it!
If i hold down the power button, no responce (even if i hold it for 2+ minutes)
No lights light up, nothing.
THe cable i have is actually brand new, my sister got a new phone the other day and wanted to keep her old charger and gave me this one.
PLEASE someone help!
if u can access download mode try to reflash the rom
I can't even get windows 7 to recognize it's pluged in!
what do i do?
dl flash tool and install drivers
Where can i download this?
& sorry its making me wait 5 mins between each post
Wait, i just remembered. i used to plug my phone into this computer to use the sd card that's in my phone to transfer files to my other computer (because i didn't have a flash drive at the time)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
still nothing... is there anything else i can do??
try to access download mode, hold "back" button then plug usb while turned of if u see a green light means u can access it
have you tried to charge about 2 hours or more?
See what happened is, i woke up and the light was steady red.
and the screen was all black, no responce with any keys. so i removed the battery and placed it back in,
now i think i might need a new battery? i tried 3 different cables and boxes that go into the wall, also tried them all on two different computers. absolutely no response from phone indicator light nor did any of the computers detect it.
i tried withoout sd card. no result.
tried holding down back key then plug it in, no result.
If i go to a store around the block that sells verizon phones and accessories ect. do you think he will help me troubleshoot?
Maybe i need a new battery.. IDK. this is really frustrating
If your battery is damaged, your phone will power on with the battery out and the power cable plugged in. If your device still wont power on, it's not the battery.

I called AT&T (my carrier) for warranty service but you can call Sony Ericsson directly. I don't know the number but I'm sure you can find it.

[Q] Phone wont charge

My friend as just giving me their Htc one x to look at they sent it in for repair about 8 months ago and after a few days it suddenly wouldn't charge or turn on there also no led light. i have tried it on 2 different charger and still nothing but when i plug it in to my pc the pc tries to install something but the phone still wont come on or show any led light. If i press the hold power and volume down you can hear it restarting on the pc but still nothing from the phone its self
Seems to me the phone does not work. Very perceptive .... different chargers don't work, pc dont work....button combos don't give life so there is nothing we can do. Get it repaired via a phoneshop/HTC again.

M8 won't boot at all, was on stock

Hey everyone,
I have an HTC One M8 that I threw in a box after I upgraded to a new phone. However, recently I've tried to pull it out to try to experiment with it, since it has an IR Blaster built in and I wanted to try making it into a spare remote.
The phone is refusing to boot at all. I've searched the issue and I've tried all the suggestions I've found: Letting it charge for a bit then trying to reset the battery, letting it charge overnight to try again, ect. Holding anything doesn't give me any response from the phone at all. While it's plugged in, the phone has an amber LED that lights up for a few seconds and turns off, lights up for a few more seconds, then turns off for a little while more before starting the cycle again.
If I try to plug the phone into my computer, it recognizes it as a 'Qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008', which from more searching tells me that the phone could be bricked... but I've never tried to flash anything on this phone. It should be running stock Android. I don't know which version of android since it's been in a box for so long, but I'm about 95% sure it's stock.
Is the phone just entirely dead from sitting in a box for a few months, or is there a way to salvage it?
There are 2 options: Your phone is hard bricked and maybe it can be repaired, maybe not.
Or your battery is dead and need to be replaced.
How does a phone brick itself by being in a box for a few months?
Are those the only two options? Either it's dead or dead?

Make sure you charge with wall charger (not connected to a computer) and try another charger and cable. Charge overnight, and then try holding power+vol up for a minute or more. The last part is key in the current situation. I've seen a number of folks (myself included) that freaked out that the phone wouldn't come on, when we just needed to hold the buttons longer.

The Qualcomm "download mode" message (when plugging the phone to computer) will come up if the phone is bricked, but that is not the only situation that will give the Qualcomm message. This message will come up, whenever the phone is powered off, even a perfectly working M8. No USB interfaces can connect when the phone is powered off, that is all the message can conclusively tell you. That can be from a brick situation, or low battery, or simply if the phone is turned off.

The battery won't take a charge, if the voltage is allowed to drop too low. Usually, there are safeguards to prevent that from happening. But it does happen in some circumstances. Leaving it powered off for a long time can be one of those circumstances.
If charging overnight, and holding power+vol up doesn't show any improvement, you can try taking it to a repair shop. Some shops have special battery chargers that have a "boost" function, that can get the voltage high enough the battery "bring it back to life". But they may need to take the phone apart to do this. At that point, you may as well get a new battery.
