So been using my phone to wirelessly tether to the Firetv. Using a T-Mobile Note 3 rooted with custom rom Wicked. Wiress tethering works great but I want to block the Amazon update URLs. Anyone know any apps that can add this functionality?

Edit the host file on your android device to block the site. It's quick but dirty.
SSH to your phone, vi /etc/hosts
Code:
127.0.0.1 firs-ta-g7g.amazon.com
127.0.0.1 amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
Just the first line should do, but to be safe I've blocked both (even though it may cause issues buying things), I don't want to risk losing root. I'll be doing that same edit on the FireTV itself once the root exploit is out.
Hi
I got a new AFTV as my existing one is non-rootable. I had blocked below sites on my router
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
firs-ta-g7g.amazon.com
With the above sites, I couldn't even sign-in to my Amazon account. Then I unblocked the firs* site and could sign-in. The good news is the FW is *_user_510055620 (Which is rootable)
Now, when I try to connect w/ AFTV Ultility v0.27 it says connection denied at IP-Address:5555
I was hoping to install the pre-rooted FW, but I am not even able to connect. What am I missing? Any pointers would be appreciated.

First of all you need to only block the following two addresses.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-setup-a-new-fire-tv-without-blocking-root/
Method 1: Domain blocking with Router – Recommended Method
1. Before powering on the Fire TV, go into your router’s settings and block access to the following two domains:
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
If you do not know how to do this, you can refer to my guide or search the internet for instruction for your particular router.
NOTE: Do NOT block firs-ta-g7g.amazon.com as it is unnecessary for blocking updates and will cause problems during the initial setup if blocked.

You are lucky to still be able to root.
Also to work the AFTV Utility needs you to input the internal IP address your router has assigned to your FTV. Hit File/Settings and just input the IP address. Example: 192.168.1.123
You only need method one to block the updates before root. But make sure you always keep those two address blocked. Then make sure your read & understand this to root = http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-root-the-amazon-fire-tv/
Once rooted you can use the AFTV Utility to disable OTA updates. And once you install a custom recovery aka CWM that will be the next level of protection for root.
Yes, I am inputting the IP address, So the exact address is 10.0.0.26. Will try another power-cycle/reboot and gave it another go...
same result...
Code:
C:\FTV>adb connect 10.0.0.26
unable to connect to 10.0.0.26:5555
C:\FTV>ping 10.0.0.26
Pinging 10.0.0.26 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.0.0.26: bytes=32 time=137ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.26: bytes=32 time=140ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.26: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.26: bytes=32 time=243ms TTL=64
Ping statistics for 10.0.0.26:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 3ms, Maximum = 243ms, Average = 130ms
Aarg!!, I missed enabling Debug on ATV!!. Once I had that enabled, I am able to root my ATV
Now to upgrade to the latest version.
Hey guys,
I just received a brand new Fire TV 4K. I want to prevent my device from updating to the newest version, so that I can get root easily. However, when I use the following guide in order to skip the initial update procedure it continues to show me the error message instead of jumping to the registration screen. I set up my router to block the domains according to the guide and I turn of my Wi-Fi router the moment "connection succesful" appears on the screen. Any ideas how to fix this? Or does the method do not work if the Fire TV is shipped with the latest firmware?

i had the exact issue with my fire stick, it's on 5.0.5
after about 100 tries i was about to return it to the store
i went to try it one more time and took it out of the bag and plugged it in again ,it booted up and went straight to checking for updates without asking me to configure the network settings
so i quickly unplugged my modem from my router and it finally went to the registration screen
now i do not know if this thing remember the DNS /network settings i am guessing that it does not since it usually asks you to reconfigure them every time it is powered on prior to completing the setup
i guess it at least remembered the network and password , but i don't know about the DNS settings
it was not the 1st time it booted up and went straight to checking for updates without me configuring DNS settings , but the other few times it also failed to go to the registration screen, i am thinking that this FW has a block that detects if a proxy or open DNS is being used and then refuses to go to registration if it is,
my guess is that when it rebooted that time with out me going to advanced and entering open DNS settings
that it got through to amazon servers and that is what made the FW finally let me go to registration, also forgot to mention that it was downloading an update, but i was able to stop it in time and block the updates with ADB
so i did manage to prevent the update in the end
my guess is that the 1st step in that guide is the problem ,
my guess is that using open DNS to block amazon servers will make it impossible to get to the registration screen on the newer FW's ,at least on 5.0.5
you could always try to do the guide without blocking amazon servers using open DNS
and be really quick to unplug it after you get past registration , then just enable ABD and unknown apps and disconnect your modem from your router and connect to it and block updates via ADB

Thanks for the reply. However, it does not help me much. I did not block updates via Open DNS but via settings in my router.
For those you do not understand the problem, I created a short video: https://gaming.youtube.com/watch?v=vt2ntBk4K-M&feature=share
After the update error message, I should setup the Wi-Fi again and when the message "you are connected" appears, I have to turn off the router. This is what I do. However, the Fire TV does not skip to serach for updates and does not go straigth to registration.

well mine was hanging on checking for updates for like an hour and would never go to the registration screen, just back to the error screen .
ok you are not using open DNS ,but you are still blocking amazon servers, i think it may be that the new FW will not give you the registration screen until it gets an amazon server and connects to it
or it may have some other method of detecting that we are trying to block domains, be it through open DNS or our routers
or it could just be a huge coincidence that it worked for me when i did not configure the open DNS settings, but i i tried it literally over 100 times with open DNS and it would never go past the error screen
i might have tried it like 3 or 4 times without setting up open DNS and blocking the servers and it still would not go past the error screen, but that one time it worked i did not enter the open DNS settings
you can keep on trying and report back if it works with the domains blocked in your router, but if you get to a point where you give up like i did then you can try it without blocking the domains and see if it will go to the registration screen
Recently, my Fire automatically updated from the 6.0.0.0 version to the newest one (6.0.0.1). This happened despite the fact that I had installed LostNet Firewall Pro with the following processes blocked:
Android System
Dynamic Updation Service
Forced OTA
System Updates
Apparently, the only thing this useless app was able to accomplish was block my manual update requests while allowing automatic requests to go through.
So did I forget to block a process responsible for updating the device? If not, are there any dependable firewall/blocking apps that can actually prevent Fire from updating?
I appreciate the help.
I have been having some problems of Amazon updates downloading and trying to install on my FTV and FTV2 boxes. They are rooted and I tried to block using the router address blocks and using adb commands to block. However the last two days I have seen my FTV stuck at TWRP screen. I'm think the update tried to install and got stopped by TWRP.
Just wondering if there is any new methods for blocking these updates from Amazon?
Have you tried a system app remover or disabler?
If you look through your system applications, look for com.amazon.device.software.ota and attempt to uninstall it or disable it. I mostly disable packages within adb shell, su, pm disable com.amazon.device.software.ota. Just by getting rid of this package should give you an update error which is completely normal until there's a prerooted rom available for the Fire TV. Let me know if you need any help
Personally, I have an OpenDNS setup blocking stuff. I have 2 AFTV2 boxes, and much easier to setup the dns in the wifi settings, than to do other things.
Plus, I'm all set for any future devices I may get!
On a side note, I also use Blokada. And in the section to whitelist/blacklist, I came upon a 'All apps'....and it adds, just that! I did notice a lot of those same services in the mix, but unknown if I'd trust just using that to stop updates.
