Best way to recover data and boot up -sprint zv5 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
I am on a rooted sprint zv5. After ending a call today, my phone froze. I pulled the battery and now it will boot as far as the lg startup screen, then the screen will go black and remain that way.
I have been trying to figure out how to fix this without wiping/ losing any data.
Unfortunately since I can not find a spint kdz to do a "normal flash" with the LG flash tool 2014 referenced here, I am at a loss. I did find the zv5 tot, but if I understand correctly, using that would wipe all of my data which I do not want to do.
Is there any way to repair/ boot up my phone, or am I hosed? I do not mind upgrading if necessary to do so...
Thank you ...even if you took the time to read this and can not help.

[Q] LG E980 bricked during interr. OTA on rooted stock phone. AT&T want to go stock
Hello All!
Call me completely retarded if it's warranted, i'm usually better with these things. here is the current situation:
(1) LG E-980 Optimus G Pro - Stock AT&T ROM. Never an OTA updade, purchased 01/2014 in MD, USA.
TWRP v2.6.3.0 installed. Rooted. SuperSU and busybox, current. TWRP "restore" does not restore from the full backup i had performed. Stuck in a boootloop between "LG Logo, and then quickly in the top right corner "Secure Boot Error Cause: Device UnLock, So Boot Success!!!" and then it's off to TWRP in recovery. Any advice there would be foremost appreciated, as that'd allow me to properly restore to pre-brick state, and install CWM, if it's more reliable, etc.
I can get into Download mode, and have followed THIS post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302660
but I had problems getting my laptop to assign the cell a "COM Port"
and besides Download Mode, there's ADB Sideload in TWRP thats usable, no? should I use this and how is this possible?
I've a few backups, TWRP and CWG, and also a stock .tot and .dll from the above mentioned thread. Does anybody know how to get past the "secure Boot Error" bootloop and get ANY ROM installed? ANY help would be much appreciated!
I've been at it at least ten hours, and realized I probably should have asked here fist banging my head against the wall, this is a wonderful phone, and i'd hate to see it dead, i mean it's literally ALL there still. TWRP recovery has a file manager.
On my desktop (and on the device) the TWRP back-up files are there, just shy of four GB, and i've also grabbed the stock .tot file, and i would LOVE someone to give me a hand straightening this particular mess out, and i'll offer another a quid pro quo in a field i'm vastly more well-versed in.
Thank you for reading the FNG's post. Greetings!
Ryan
you got in download mode by pressing volume keys and pluging in usb?
coz it dosent work for me

After successful (?) upgrade to MM, can't boot past Verizon screen.

I was on 13B rooted, then flashed the stock system to return to unroot status. Everything worked fine. Plugged into computer and Verizon Upgrade Assistant suggested upgrade to 13C, so I bit. After a 4 hour (!) download of a 2 Gb file, the upgrade install proceeded without incident, and resulted in a successful completion according to the Assistant. Phone started booting and the Upgrade Assistant re-read the phone as being on 13C, but, the phone stalls and refuses to boot past the Verizon red splash screen. I have pulled battery and tried numerous times to boot, with no luck. It just sticks at the same spot.
Any suggestions? I'm nervous about re-flashing 13 B for fear of bricking it, so perhaps flash 13C kdz?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I have now tried flashing the 13C kdz unsuccessfully a number of times. I verified the checksum on the downloaded kdz file, and attempted to flash it on three separate computers where I had successfully flashed the G4 in the past. Each time that I tried flashing the 13C it reads: "Required Information cannot be found. Contact the system administrator."
I am still stuck here. Even in the flash tool, the phone is read as having 13C on it, but it still will not boot past the Verizon splash screen. Any thoughts on whether I should dare try flashing 13B, or would I end up with even more of a brick then I have now?
Thanks again.
DO NOT FLASH 13B!
Isn't Android 6 24c?
I got stuck on the Verizon screen, but a wipe fixed it at that point.

Thanks, and you are correct on the number, MM is 24C.
May I ask, how were you able to wipe when stuck on the Verizon splash screen? I would love to do that if possible.
Thanks again.

Hold volume down and power on if I remember correctly to put the phone in recovery mode. From there you can choose to do a wipe/factory reset.
I had issues with way long boot times, the wipe fixed that, but then apps kept FC. I ended up downloading the KDZ file and used the flash tool to reflash 24C. Everything is stellar now.
Thank you so much, mikeewhite! I followed your instructions and they worked perfectly, so I am back up and running. You are the reason that I love this list so much, as there are so many people like you generous with their time and advice.

Lg G3 Stuck in Recover Loop After Android Update Error

Okay, So let me start from the beginning so I'm certain I'm being descriptive enough.
The other night my G3's wifi stopped working. When I went to turn it on in settings it would turn itself back off. Which I thought was strange. So, I assumed it was a software issue so I backed up any important items and factory reset my phone last night. That went over fine. Wifi worked again, all was good. Until, it said it needed an Android Software Update. I hit "update" and allowed it to do its thing. About halfway through the update the phone said "error." With an icon of the Android bot with a hazard triangle sticking out from it. I let it be for a bit and nothing happened. So in my impatience I took the battery out and put it back in and tried to restart the phone. This is where the issue occurs. The phone keeps booting to recovery mode. I'm not savvy at all with Android so I don't know if these mean anything but it says "Android System Recovery <3e> LRX21Y" The phone has had zero modifications done to it. I would really appreciate any help or any tutorials that could save the phone until my g6 preorder comes in.
Thanks!
Kyle
Your phone failed the update for some weird reasons and is now stuck. I'm afraid you'll need to restore stock Android using LG Flash tools and KDZ files to your device. It will get your phone working, but you'll lose your data in the process.
You can try mounting the phone from recovery or download mode and see if you can access your data and backup the data. You can also try the recovery option without downloading wnloaing a KDZ first.
You can fins tutorials around the forum, in the general section usually.

[Q] LG G4 H811 Stuck in Recovery (TWRP) Loop

I was running the latest version of TWRP and a rooted version of the LG G6 port. Everything was stable and worked fine. So I was ready to give it back to its owner who I had modded it for. I went into the settings menu of the phone and did a standard factory reset to remove my account that was logged in so I could test the phone out before giving it to the owner. well when it finished resetting and rebooted, its been stuck in a boot loop ever since.
Tried just clearing both Dalvik Cache and Cache, to no avail. Tried Reflashing the rom and starting over. Still nothing. Tried flashing a different rom. Still nothing.
So what else can I try? and also if its the only thing I can do, rest it all the way back to stock factory everything. How do I do that on this phone. What program do I need and what files. and whats the steps to complete the process.
Thank you in advance for all help that is given
i factory reset in twrp and turned on developers options after first boot then reflashed twrp i always forget backup lol or delete it or use kdz you flashed before anyway i can help i will if you still need
if you have tried to flash the same custom rom or another is still not working, flashes with the program "lg up", you will need a kdz file, and the corresponding drivers. if with that you can not watch this tutorial before doing anything.
if you have a backup made with twrp, it flashes again.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/unbrick-lg-g4-brick-hs-usb-qdloader-t3542785
during this process you will have to disassemble the back of the phone, (plastic) you do not need to remove the motherboard completely from the phone, anyway if you can enter download mode try with lg up tool.
if you need help around here we are.
Well now in the process of trying to fix it. The phone bricked and will no longer turn on at all. Is there anyway to fix this ?

Can you get into download mode?
Also, it's possible you have been hit by the bootloop

Bricked LG G8 after flashing ARROW OS & TWRP

Howdy all, hadn't done rooting/etc in a long time as my past several phones didn't have much support for them but got the LG G8 and was excited to possibly root it and also install a custom rom. Went with Arrow OS which seemed to run fine and I decided I wanted to get TWRP as a custom recovery instead of the one that comes with ARROW OS. I flashed it but now it get stuck on fastboot and constantly loops to it (and no longer shows the boot a/b.... which probably isn't a good sign). After leaving it alone for some time, I booted it up and now it gets beyond the the fastboot loop but I can either try to boot it up which only gets me the code red warning or go to download mode. I tried to use LG Bridge and download mode on my phone but the Bridge software doesn't detect the phone.
I realize some of this is probably because of my stupidity and I should've been more careful but anyone got any ideas on what could be done to get the phone back to a stable working state so that it can function again? I know there are some more "difficulties" because of the boot a/b partitions and having to handle that stuff properly. If it isn't possible, that sucks I guess but anyone who wants to chime in - thank you for your help!

Sounds like you might just need to reverse what you did to try to get twrp. If you have the boot partition for Arrow flash that back, if you don't have it should be pretty easy to get it from someone.
If that doesn't work can always use qfil and flash the necessary partitions to get LGUP to work, then flash or crossflash to a kdz and start again with stock.
You're in good company. I went down the same path and have become adept at repeatedly bricking and un-bricking my G8. (LM-G820QM5) I picked up 2 tidbits of info that have been helpful. The first is that my G8 ThinQ will not boot Android when the engineering abl_a.bin has been flashed on to it to enable fastboot. Sure it will fastboot, and go into EDL or download mode, but in order to boot the OS, I have to put the normal abl_a.bin and abl_b.bin back.
The second lesson I learned the hard way is that sometime LGUP fails to flash when the phone is in download mode. I was searching around XDA and came across a very helpful post from starlyn1232. They posted a command line utility that has been successful in un-bricking my G8 when LGUP failed.
I downloaded the appropriate kdz from lg-firmwares.com and the starlyn1232's utility from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/lgup-flash-utility-based-on-lgup-1-16-cmd-and-lgup-1-17-lgup_common-dll.4112121/
Well thankfully, i still had the original files from the unlocking thread in this forum and I also apparently did make a backup of my files right before I installed TWRP 3.4 or whatever and was able to get my phone working again - which is awesome! Also, what's the best way to back up everything on the phone (or at least the essentials) in case of flashing situations like this? I in the past would just use TWRP to do a backup/restore but since I flashed ARROWOS and it has its own recovery and doesn't seem to have a backup option - asking if any one has a recommendation. Thanks!

I would highly recommend looking at bkerler edl utilities. You can easily find his git page which has the download option for an iso linux boot which has everything installed.
It's a bit involved / complicated figuring out the command line interface, but once done you can backup everything and it will create the xml files needed to reload it.
I would suggest this for everyone but especially for those with sprint or att devices, as there is no kdz available for them.
I've recovered from various issues too many times to count with backups I've made for v40, v35, and now G8 (2 of them).
cheers
Could you pass the tutorial on how to install TWRP?
Does anyone have rawprogram0.xml

So the rawprogram xml will be for ea lun, and it will vary by which rom you're trying to flash, it will also vary by segment starting positions for the partitions. IE, there is no generic version of it.
2nd, you don't need a patch xml, just click cancel or skip for that entry. Note; the rawprogram xml is usually generated when a backup of the binaries is made, and it will be for that specific backup.
Hello there sorry to pop in unannounced I would like to interject briefly and please pardon my ignorance I'm still a noob.
I have a similar issue, but I'm a little bit confused as to what I should do. In my Case i have a SOFT brick.
(G8 ThinQ VERIZON LM-G820UM (Model) ---- G820UM20j (Software)).
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted with magisk successfully, Still running STOCK OS
Then I Flashed TWRP.zip and some version of Magisk.zip with the magisk app, Then I Rebooted to Recovery.
Inside TWRP i Wiped, Format and then I flashed Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_03.04.2020.zip
This process Finished without any errors, however, after I rebooted i now cannot go past the Verizon Logo and it's stuck there.
Fortunately, I have All the Original files backed up (abl_a.bin, abl_b.bin, boot_a.bin, boot_b.bin)
And TWRP also managed to create a Backup beforehand.
I can go easily into EDL mode and i also have the engineering abl_a file on hand.
i can also get to the built-in Stock factory reset / safe mode but I'm unsure if I should use it.
So my question is if i would be correct in loading ALL of the original Files using QFIL, or only the boot_a boot_b files ?
or if i should do something else like getting the firmware in my case?
thank you for your time in advance.

Hello, I Managed to Fix it by loading my backed-up original boot_a.bin and boot_b.bin using QFIL, I have successfully passed that Verizon logo now and should be able to go from here, not that anybody asked, I just thought someone in the future might have some use out of this information here. so if you are from the future and you read this, you are welcome and good luck
