I need some help from xda-developers and other tech blogging sites/communities. The question is relatively simple - how old were you when you first bought your windows phone 7 device? I am doing a class assignment on this and I thought why not do it on windows phone 7, so I am a bit curious of the age demographic breakdown between users that bought windows phone 7 devices (or users that are looking to purchase it within the next year) and users that are not interested.
Just vote
[edit]
Also preferred if you list your occupation or educational level as well. If you think its a bit too much information you don't have to participate. But trust me when I say this, it could help me a lot, like a whole lot so I ask you xda-developers FIRST

As many of you may know, unlocking the One X with the tools on the HTCDev website doesn't give you full freedom on your own phone. You can flash new roms, but other things like radio's and hboots can't be flashed because the phone doesn't have S-Off. Also there is the issue of warranty, users with a HTCDev unlocked phone are having problems with getting warranty from HTC, also with issues that are not caused by unlocking or other software. There are a lot of devices where S-Off has been achieved, but sometimes it took a great amount of work and time. My last phone, the HTC Desire was the one of the first HTC's to ship with S-On and it took almost a year to find an exploit to gain S-Off. I don't know anything about what it takes to reach such a milestone but I did appreciate it very much. It finally allowed me to flash a different hboot so I could install a lot more applications on it. (see topic)
Long story short:
To speed up development it may be a good idea to give something back to the developers who spend a great amount of time in getting to that ultimate goal: S-Off.
The idea was proposed in the S-Off Discussion Topic and there some people, including myself, have already promised to donate an amount of money to
the first group or person who develops a safe, simple to use method to get S-Off.
Of course we don't want people keeping all their secrets for themselves, but that is a risk when you set a bounty on something. My hope is that people will be fair and if someone made a great contribution, they will be acknowledged by the group or person who made the final solution and maybe can share in the prize money. But something like that is difficult to catch in words beforehand, let's first wait what the results are. Then when the solution is found, I think we are all reasonable enough to find a satisfying solution if the situation calls for it.
Like stated, we are searching for a safe, simple to use solution. Safe and simple are words that are up to interpretation. What is simple for some maybe witchcraft to others. Again to compare it to my previous phone, the HTC Desire, what the Alpharev team (now Revolutionairy) has achieved is what I call a safe and simple solution. Then there is the issue of different bootloaders/radio's, there are a lot of different combinations and the One X is only a month old, so there will be a lot more combinations by the time we get S-Off. I think it is fair to only count solutions that work with the latest WWE OTA/RUU available at the time the solution is proposed, or the method must provide some way to downgrade to the needed software to let the method work.
I hope everyone who promises money will also pay if the solution is found, so only fill in the spreadsheet if you are really willing to donate to the developer who finds the solution. How we exactly are going to collect that money is debatable, but I think Paypal is the easiest solution. Collecting the money beforehand is impossible, because we don't know if the solution is ever found. I myself will pay $ 20 to the developer who finds the solution.
If you want to donate, fill in this spreadsheet
The minimum amount that you can donate is $ 5
Obviously there is no maximum, but for now the maximum via the spreadsheet is 50 dollars/euro's/pounds. If you want to donate more that's very nice, but then please send a PM to abc27. There were some fake entries with high amounts, so to prevent this, just send a PM so we know it's a genuine donation.
It is fine to post in this topic that you have donated, to keep this topic on top. But please do not post without filling in the spreadsheet, because I'm not going to check the entire topic for people who have posted that they'll donate but didn't fill in the spreadsheet.
If you want to see the people who've donated and see the total amount, click here
And I need to thank abc27 for creating the spreadsheet, which was a way better idea than counting the donations in this topic by hand

I had posts like this several times on HD2 forums, so I will say it again. I will be very happy to donate for s-off about 20 euros, but my only problem is that I cant use Paypal from Serbia. So to do that I would need some other solution.
Already over €100 / $100 adjusted for exchange rates.
do you have a link to see the spreadsheet directly so we can see the totals?

Thanks for start that thread mates.
20€ here.
P.D: I think that topic can be improved a little, lot of people here aren't native english speakers (like me) and the word "bounty" can be unknown for them so I propose a topic like:
"[S-OFF BOUNTY] Donate here to archive S-OFF"
Include "Donate", that is a more common word onto the topic, will improve the visibility of the thread.
Unfortunately the student budget limits me but I am happy donating £10
Put me down, for £10. Would do more but things pretty tight for a few months.

UPDATE 2015-01-29:
We have reached the target for this! Thanks to all!
Device is already bought.
Estimated time to arrive: Between Saturday, Feb. 7 and Monday, Feb. 16
Thanks to all donators !
Those are:
pelago :good:
Zombeezy :good:
joel.maxuel :good:
misbehave :good:
KellyC :good:
ajoh99 :good:
whitelynx :good:
Check out my F3Q threads for updates of development:
sediKERNEL thread
TWRP thread
sediROM for LG thread
To view the original OP:
As mentioned here in my announcement I am not able to develop for the F3Q anymore because I have no device anymore.
The idea would be to sum up what people would spent and using PayPal as donation target. I believe that is the easiest method for kind of that.
Each donation send to me would cost some money on my site but that would be my donation to that.
To be absolutely clear: This donations are not for my work or payment for the work already done!
The reason for this thread is to have the money to buy a development device only. nothing more - nothing less!
I do not want to get rich from this or whatever thats because the whole process will be as transparent as possible to you.
The device will be for development only because I will continue using my Captivate Glide as my daily driver.
That way I can ensure development can be made without problems according to that.
Nevertheless you will not donate for a guarantee that a special thing will happen or developed - I will only guarantee that I continue developing to some day get out the most of the F3Q.
The most important thing about transparency is how I calculate the costs. They are calculated from this offer (the last weeks and months I detected multiple price reductions. I will update the cost list as soon as I get knowledge about a price reduction, of course) : Currently available eBay offer
If you find another cheaper device which can be send to Germany do not hesitate to give me a PM!
If you find a broken device which is still usable (device need to be able to boot, touchscreen must work, display must function) then also do not hesitate to send me a PM!
If you know someone who get that device offered by their mobile provider and he/she want to sell it tell me, too
$ 119.99 - F3Q itself (Cheaper again - since today! 2015-01-22)
$ 11.28 - Shipping to Germany
$ 29.82 - Import charges
----------------------
$ 161,09 - Total
+ PayPal Fee's (may or may not be added so I cannot set a sum for this)
Click to collapse
PayPal Fee's:
International Fees:
2.9% transaction fee plus a 1% cross-border fee and/or 2.5% currency conversion.
means in worst case 6,4 % costs for each donation I receive.
or Standard Fee (depends on how the user had paid and from where etc)
2.9 % + 0.30 $ per transaction
not sure which one would met but it will mean that when one donates 10 $ about 0.29 $ to 0.64 $ will be charged by Paypal so that is something we need to keep in mind then.

Current amount and offers:
TARGET = US $161,09
- $9,31 ($10 - $0,69 paypal fee) from pelago :good: (donation already made)

- $18,92 ($20 - $1,08 paypal fee) from joel.maxuel :good: (donation already made)

$161,46 in total - WE GOT IT !! :highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive::highfive:
No additional payments needed! Thx to all again. I keep you updated!
That means we need only: US $ --

Please reply to this thread with the amount you are willing to donate in US Dollars.
As soon as we have reached the target all of you will be notified in order to start their offered donation shortly.
Donation URL:
You can donate regardless of the fact if we reach the goal or not - but I will not refund anything when we do not reach the goal.
That means if you use the following donation URL that money will be hold until we reached the goal or too much time goes by.
In other words: When we reached the goal your donation will be used for the device - if we not reach the goal in a fair amount of time your money will be "converted" to a "normal" donation.
If you do not like that: no problem simply wait until enough people wrote a donation offer and the global "donation run" will open.
But if you accept all this and you do not want to wait you can donate right now using this link:
As the target is $2 only I strongly believe that this will come true! So if someone is willing to donate that amount do it here:
Donation - URL (click here)
Thanks

Can you make my donation $8, to make the numbers a little nicer? Also, although you've hidden the donation link behind a spoiler, it is still there. You might want to completely remove the link it you don't want people donating straight away.

ok done. Regarding the URL you're right. I thinking about opening it from the beginning so if the user do not want to wait until there are enough offers.. If he would accept that the money is not refundable when there are not enough offers it could be ok I think.. may ease up the donation process in whole but I thought it could be a good idea .. not sure though..
I pledge $17.50 USD for now (aka ~20 CAD)...
$20 from me. Wife uses it, and certainly want to encourage continued efforts on this phone.
$10 from me.
Just made the donation on paypal.
Price reduction of the F3Q detected!
This results in about US $20 less then before!
Before: US $185,95 left
Now: only US $161,44 left
As usual:
if you find a cheaper price (including importing charges and delivery) contact me!
US $210,11 in total is the current cheapest offer which is available for shipping to Germany.

Ah, didn't notice that the link to donate is working. I promised $20 so will do the PayPal thing when I get home from work.
donated $50
My n900 is really giving out, and looks like the Neo900 is still quite a long ways out (besides being probably $800+)
So I might have to go Android
But I require a physical kb, and I would far rather use CyanogenMod than stock, so.
I can pledge $25. I challenge someone out there to match me! Let's get this done!
Just started using this phone as my daily driver and love it. Can't wait to see what else we can accomplish with it.
OK, finally got off my butt and donated. I said I'd donate $20 but made it $25.

thanks! I updated the thread.
woot! I detected a dramatic price reduction!! Instead of needing about $ 200 we now need $ 161,09 only! It means the device gets about $ 30 cheaper since the last time checked and because it got cheaper the delivery and duty is also less so we have in fact a reduction of about $ 40 ..
So to sum up: now we only need US $ 36,44. That seems to be somehow possible.. ?!
Greetings
Considering CAD<->USD exchange rate keeps getting worse, I figured I'd donate now. $20 coming your way @xdajog.
I'll donate $30; that should cover the remainder.
Good luck with continuing development!
Edit: Donated.
It seems that although I was the first to pledge money, I was the only one to have not paid in advance! So I have just paid my pledged $8 and an additional $2. Hopefully this will allow you to buy your device.
I haven't actually got one myself, although I'm tempted at that ebay offer you found (I'm in UK). If only it had more internal memory, a backlit keyboard, and better specs in general...

What is the status of this project?
I ask because I'm looking to replace my Mozilla Flame with a new Android device (and port FireFoxOS to it), and in order for that to happen, I need Cyanogenmod compatibility.
I'm between this and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, though I'd prefer the LG F3Q 1000-fold because it has a QWERTY keyboard!
Thanks!
Hi all, it appears that Mike Reid, the developer of the original FOSS Android Auto Head Unit app, has sadly passed away.
We are continuing the development in a new app, which we call the OpenHU Project. It stands for Open Head Unit.
Just want to address some one concern that some have already raised: OpenHU will continue to be fully open source under GPL, forever.
The only thing that may change is that we are trying to get permission from Mike Reid's family to relicense under GPLv2, as Mike had intended to permit those uses personally - and he obviously can't anymore.

$10,000 Bounty Details: http://wiki.console.com.co/w/Console_Developer_Rewards
Finally - we are offering a $10,000 bounty, as the first full round of our Console Developer Rewards initiative. We had previously planned to focus on Android for x86, but Intel and Android were on troubled waters at the time... so we didn't fully launch it. In the wake of Mike's passing, we felt the best thing to do was focus on this effort.
As you may have heard, some recent changes to GMS (Google Play Services) broke Mike's app. But we are already hard at work, and you can win a portion (or all) of the $10,000 by helping us fix it!
Reserved
Reserved for future use...
Hi all, some good news, continuing from the old thread. Mike was persistently doing battle with a private Google file, libsslwrapper.so. It's part of GMS. As you can see in the source code for OpenHU, when searching for this file, Mike left several hooks for swapping in old versions, in order to A/B test.
By replacing that file with the old version (from GMS 9.0), it appears we can use OpenHU with GMS 9.2.56!
Unfortunately, this is only a partial fix, one Google could break at any time, so the bounty continues. We need to identify what broke with the latest changes.
But this is good news because we can isolate the problem to an SSL link between OpenSSL and the libsslwrapper.so file. Now, we need the community's help the most - because we don't have SSL engineers on-staff. Don't count on us to fix this, we need all-hands here.
Full instructions on how to swap libsslwrapper.so with the old version (via ADB, sans root) will be posted shortly.
How about instead of paying someone $10,000 for a future scam project you use that $10,000 to refund the backers you ripped off from your other scam you still haven't delivered on nearly 3 years later: Console OS.
You still have t-shirts and physical goods to deliver as well. You have $10,000 to throw around for this though.....
Truly a piece of work.
So this money is coming from the ConsoleOS funds? Did you know that the front page of android-x86.org calls you out as a scammer?

You did fully launch it. Twice. No one bit the first time because they knew better. You changed the submission date. Still no one bit. Oh, let me guess. It was yet another "soft launch"?
Also, where did the 10,000 dollars come from? You've said for months you've had no money to refund backers and you and your "team" had been living on less than minimum wage for a couple years now. You also said you could only afford refunds if you sold the rebranded Teclast hardware that you've announced but have provided zero details about so far. Wait...
"Similarly, we reserve the right to substitute devices, or provide refurbished devices if necessary for fulfillment."
There will be no cash. You'll give away old hardware and deduct the MSRP from the 10,000 cash promise. That's if you ever manage to give away anything at all.
I think anyone thinking about participating has to right to know explicitly where the money is coming from and please don't say "industry partners."
What's funny is your "continued development" of this project is the exact same thing you did with ConOS, grab code that someone else wrote, try to find other people to fix the issues for you, and then sell that for profit.
Intel and Android-x86 wrote Console OS' code, and now you're taking Mike Reid's code. Maybe you should stop taking other people's work and make something yourself. I mean, you have developers in Paris and a team to help you....right? Or is the extent of your "collective" coding knowledge changing names and lines on The GitHub?
But let's not kid ourselves. There is no team, no we. It's been you all along, just you.

I will respect the moderators and only focus on OpenHU in this thread. Please leave it there, thanks, this is not an appropriate place to discuss Console OS.
We did not "take" any code from Intel, it was licensed fully. Similarly, Console was working with Mike Reid up to the day he went to hospital. All this code in this project is licensed under GPL. OpenHU will remain under GPL. Period. You cannot steal GPL code if you use it under GPL.
As to the terms of CDR, we never even launched a bounty previously. The claims above that we did, are false. We halted such efforts after Intel informed us Android on IA may be halted. See the OP for a true/correct history. We will pay every penny of Console Developer Rewards, and it will be pretty darn clear if we don't.
We stated in the revision history that we are using cash only based on feedback - there will be no gadget giveaways (in this round, though as stated - future CDR rounds may use gadget rewards).
But again, this thread is for OpenHU. If you want to try and save the late Mike Reid's work, please contribute. If not, please leave.

From the December 25, 2015 Update:
Shortly after our Kickstarter ended, Intel suspended development of Android-IA for Intel Core processors. Later it extended this to all PC tablets as well. You will notice that Android-IA on Intel’s web site today only supports Minnowboard MAX - an IoT innovation board.

Sorry, I'm not going to engage. We never launched Console Developer Rewards. The first planned run March 1 was halted (and never introduced) due to Intel briefing us that they were planning to make major changes to their Android FOSS support. See: http://console.com.co/thoughts-on-chips/
We never offered any developer bounties prior to this one. No developer submitted code to us previously, with an expectation of being paid. This is our first go of it, and we'll pull out our credit cards to pay for it if need be. We want Mike's hard work to continue.
This is our first actual campaign for CDR. If you want to help save Mike Reid's work, contribute to that topic. All other topics are off-topic, and moderators have stated are prohibited. Please leave it there, thanks.

If you don't wanna discuss Console, fine. This project: your own page for the bounty of THIS project that YOU link to doesn't say this round is cash only. It says what I pasted, that gadgets can be substituted for cash, and the rules can change, at any time. But if you do want to use cash for THIS program (we're remaining on topic), again I ask, where is it coming from? You conveniently didn't address that at all in your reply.

Ahem, asked and answered. I'm putting up the bounty money out of my own pocket.

And this would a different pocket from the one that the ConsoleOS funds went into

Hey, why don't you be a man and take that same $10,000 to refund the couple thousand Kickstarter backers you shafted?
Or better yet, take that $10,000 and deliver the physical rewards you promised. Remember this post you made on May 13?: https://twitter.com/iConsole/status/731224776815992832
"Finally slaying spam demons is just one of the things we've checked off this week. Next up, perk shipments for #ConsoleOS. Then new stuff!"
That's almost 2 months ago. You still need to fulfill your campaign obligations before beginning another vaporware project of yours.

PM me with your Kickstarter ID and I will investigate. Our last update made clear that our pivot to hardware will extend refund options to KS backers - or give them a credit towards our upcoming hardware.
We've committed to refunding people on Console OS. What more do you want?

Out your own pocket...."if need be". So you post a 10,000 dollar bounty and only to reveal after being asked that you don't actually have it and will maybe have to put it on a credit card?

I don't see the point of the animus here. If Console can't come up with the money over the next 90 days, I'm personally promising to pull it off a credit card and back it myself.
That's not Kickstarter backer money, and we've offered to refund backers in our June 1 update. Edit: See our June 1 update if you are a backer - https://www.kickstarter.com/project...t-android-remastered-for-the-pc/posts/1592356
No KS funds from Console OS are being used here, period.
Please respect moderators wishes that discussion related to Console OS end with that. This is totally derailing the effort to salvage Mike's app... and if you think you can do better, please do.

Questions about the money are on topic. Now here is the problem. The problem is you're asking people to do work with zero guarantee of payment. You've just admitted you don't have the money. They're supposed to go off your promise, given your history? Again, your own page says you don't have to give them any money at all. You can substitute hardware at any time.

Sorry. I'm trying to save this app. I will keep trying. If you don't consider it a trustworthy offer, that's up to you. I'm putting a personal guarantee on payment for code submitted within the time period stated on the CDR page for OpenHU (June 24 to August 31). Edit: Provided it actually fixes the issue - I hope the terms of the bounty are pretty clear.
We did have to put some legal terms in there, this is being run by a company. It is to a degree, arbitrary. It's FOSS code, and we are committing to paying in cash for this initial round. The gadget legalese was written prior. This round will be paid in cash.
If you have a better idea for reviving Mike Reid's app - please provide it. I welcome a better effort.
