Its been few days that I am going through HTC M8 forums and nothing seems to help. I got a HTC One M8 which is rooted now there are updates available but they won't install because its a custom software and I should revert to Official stock.
My Question is Simple, How can I revert to original stock?
My Phone is S-OFF
****Unlocked****(But I can lock if needed)
Software Number: 4.16.401.10
HTC Sense 6.0
CID:1111111
I have TWRP recovery 3.2 installed.
Somebody, anybody please give me a link to Rom that will take me back to official and Can I actually install Marshmallow?
Any help is appreciated.
:::Life is so much easier with samsung but I just love this phone.

Excellent guide and needed files to return to stock for OTA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Now the question is, which stock backup and recovery do you need to use? Is the version number you posted (4.16.401.10), the OS number shown on the bootloader screen (this is what you want to match) or is it the software number in Settings?
No need to relock bootloader to OTA. And since you are s-off, there is really no reason to relock; and I do not recommend relocking (it actually doesn't "enable" anything to relock, that s-off already doesn't allow - but if you relock, that will prevent you from flashing things like custom recovery).

Every device has its nuances, and learning curve. When I got my first Samsung device, I didn't know what Odin or any of that was, and had to learn.
thank you mate, I'll go through the link and i hope it works...
Oh its the Software number in the setting that I have written here, can I download any rom or should I match the number?
Thank you again.

You definitely can NOT install any ROM, if you want OTA updates. You need to match the version number shown under "OS" on the bootloader screen.
Additionally, SuperCID does not make the phone "universal" (as you suggested in your PM to me). You need to match the firmware version number (OS number on bootloader screen, as mentioned) and you need to also match MID, in order for OTAs to work.
What does it say for OS on the bootloader screen?
If you installed a custom ROM, the software number in Settings won't match the OS number on the bootloader screen. The software number in Settings just refers to the custom ROM, which is pretty much irrelevant when returning to stock for OTA.

Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting). I need to see more info, not just the MID, in order to see what's going on. Reason being, the OS number (x.xx.502.x) is for the AT&T version, but the product ID is not (AT&T version is M8_UL_CA).

Wow, well it looks like it was originally a T-Mob US version, made s-off and SuperCID, flashed with AT&T firmware, and Euro based custom ROM installed.
Complicated, eh?
How you return to "stock" (and what "stock" means) is somewhat up to you, and also the requirements of your local carrier.
Do you know what bands your carrier uses for 3G and LTE?

Don't guess. Boot into bootloader, and it will say either s-on or s-off near the top.
By variant, jball is asking what carrier version or CID.
Flash the proper firmware package for your CID, if its in the collection:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282
Or alternately return to stock ROM and stock recovery, than official OTA to update to hboot 3.17 then 3.19.

I'm having the same issue as the OP. Trying to get to Lollipop from the latest Paranoid Android ROM. Here's the output of fastboot getvar all in the spoiler. How does anyone not know if they are S-OFF/S-ON ?
Did you buy your phone second hand ?
Do you know how to boot into hboot/bootlooader mode witch will inform you if your S-OFF or S-ON
Have you tried an up to date twrp cause the one your on is very old.
At&t is furthest from receiving OTA's in my opinion

Hello, I've been a long time xda lurker (Never thought I could really add much anyhow) since I had my Dell Streak and I think for the first time since I got my M8 I need a bit of help.
They rolled out the lollypop OTA update here in Ireland and figured It was time to update to a stock ROM from here or a slightly improved one but ever since then I have lost my WiFi completely.
Sorry If this makes no seance- at all I'm a little burnt out trying to solve this on my own but even going back to 4.4.3 ROMs I still have no WiFi at all and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

First - remove the serial no. & imei no. as those are sensitive info.
The details that you have does not show that you did OTA. You are still two versions behind.
Restore your stock ROM, flash a matching stock recovery (no custom recovery) then do OTA ... multiple OTAs up to the latest 4.16.410.10
If you're willing to set the phone up from scratch you can just update straight to Lollipop using the RUU available on here. If you want to go that route then you can following this guide I wrote:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
Basically, step 3 covers what you need to do as step 1 and 2 are already done and at least once that's done if you still have issues you know it's not the software on the phone

No luck, kept getting error 99 with the 'htc_fastboot" from the thread and with my normal fastboot it gives me the error 32 'header error' I only noticed the thread was for s-off phones, I don't care about my phone saying tampered, unlocked or anything but I'm assuming that's stopping the flash from happening.

Haha yeah that worked now, ignoring the guide at the start and just leaving it with the relocked warning it's flashing now via the RUU
Thanks to the both of you for your help.
I have a HTC One M8, that is running a very old version of Android Revolution (7.0, which is KitKat based). I would like to update to the newest version, but I'm getting conflicting answers on how should I do this. Some threads say I have to revert to stock, and some say I have to install the official OTA updates first, otherwise I might end up with non-working wifi, and some say I should use the RUU from the official HTC site.
Details of the phone:
S-ON
Rooted
Has TWRP installed (some old TWRP, can't update it because newest version get's stuck at entering recovery, I read that it is related to me having an old HBOOT version)
Current ROM is android revolution 7.0
CID is TMOB-101
Bootloader unlocked
I heard the easiest way to do it is to use the official HTC site to download a RUU, and use that, but in order to use that, you must relock your bootloader, but that can potentially brick the device if it was tampered with?
Can anyone clarify what should I do, and what should I look out for, to make sure I don't brick (like relocking the bootloader)?
You will need to restore a nandroid backup then do OTA to the latest.
Post fastboot getvar all result without serial & imei no.
Someone will be able to guide you.
Or I check tomorrow as I already in bed now.
Note : unlocking/relocking bootloader will not brick a device.

That if still available, not for your hboot version.

Where do you read you need to relock bootloader ? I asked you to read my thread post #1, there is a note on bootloader matter. No need to relock bootloader.
How do I see the relationship ? That come from observation and experience ... the outcome that I learnt from my own thread ....
See all those software version no. in post #2 in my thread
hboot 3.16.0000 - software version no. is 1.xx.xxx.x
hboot 3.18.0000 - software version no. is 2.xx.xxx.x
so yours is hboot 3.16.0000 and CID T-MOB101 so the software version no. is 1.xx.111.x
and the precise version no. is 1.57.111.2
That's all that I can help ... as this way off-topic from your original problem.

If you want to taste Marshmallow ROM, you install TWRP 2.8.7.0 and install any customized Marshmallow ROM that you like. Just make a nandroid backup of your current stock non-rooted ROM before you install other ROM. You need this backup for next OTA.
I see.
Are there no caveats, like my wifi not functioning if I install a marshmallow rom now, without waiting for the OTA update first?
I would not suggest that if there are problems in doing so.
Hello, I bought a used HTC M8 and it was updated to Marshmallow when it arrived. The issue is I then don't have the camera app everyone else has on the M8 but rather the not-so-great Google Camera app. How do I get the original M8 camera app?
First of all, AT&T hasn't been updated to MM, so its not on stock software for AT&T; and the device has been modded to some degree or other. Which would also explain why you don't have the Sense camera.
Your options are to RUU back to AT&T LP, which will give you the Sense camera back. Or depending on the present condition (unlocked bootloader, s-off, etc.) , you can flash a custom ROM or other version RUU to get Marshmallow OS.
If you know how, do fastboot getvar all, and post results (delete IMEI and serial number). Also, does it say LOCKED, RELOCKED, or LOCKED on bootloader screen?
If you don't know how to use fastboot, what does it say on the bootloader screen:
s-on or s-off?
Anything for OS number?
That hboot and radio number?

The phone has been converted to Google Play Edition (GPE) which is more like a Nexus build, with most Sense features missing.
Converting back to Sense will require jumping through some hoops:
1) Change CID and MID
2) Flash proper Sense firmware
3) Flash Sense RUU
Which specifics mentioned above (CID, MID, firmware number, RUU version) will depend on your preference, such as whether you want to convert back to stock AT&T, US Developers Edition, or convert to Euro version, or some other version.

Thanks, I think I'll either keep it or flash whatever the latest CM is. I'd rather not have Sense bloat. Thank you for the help.

First you say you want the Sense camera, now you say you don't want the Sense bloat.
Although I understand if you want an all-around lightweight OS like CM. That being the case, you can easily just flash custom recovery TWRP, and flash CM.
If you ever want to go back to Sense, you'll need to re-partition the phone per the process I mentioned. The system (OS) partition on GPE is too small to install a Sense ROM (but is fine for CM or other AOSP or GPE based ROMs).

Haha, that's hilarious! I apologize. I really did want the Sense camera because I can't find another camera app that gives such a fast shutter speed. Although I'm happy with Marshmallow and CM isn't stable on Marshmallow yet. Thank you for the all the help, I hope someone else will stumble onto this and it'll help them. As for me, my plan is to wait til AT&T gets Marshmallow, then I'll flash that. Once again, thank you for the help.
Hello I bought M8 from somebody, it is unbranded European model i think, phone is rooted and carrier unlocked as im using it in asia. it comes with android 5.0.1, I want to update to stock marshmallow for this variant. I have been trying to do on my own but it only confused me more. Im not sure if i have custom rom or if because im rooted, because At the time moment it doesnt offer any software updates from the main menu.
Some info abt phone.
Its model id at back is Op6B100,
Android version 5.0.1
Software number 4.18.708.12
Build number 4.18.708.12
In the bootloader menu I have
Software status: Official
Locked ( i think it means bootloader)
M8_UL PVt SHIp s-off
Cid-11111111 (but if I check with cidgetter it says t-mob010). So it confused me because according to its model its supposed to be european model but in fastboot it says 11111111.
HBoot 3.19.0.0000
I dont have twrp installed.
So please tell me where to go from here. I want to either from here go direct to stock android 6 for this M8 variant or go back to stock condition and get ota update. I prefer to lose the root. So please tell me which stock firmware I need, and do I need to change cid, remove root, before that? Also i would like not to brick my device in process.. Thanks.
Also my device is carrier unlocked at the moment so Im hoping this shouldn't affect that. Thanks
.??
Post fastboot getvar all result (delete serial & imei no. before posting) then someone will be able to help.

I would like to install htc marshmallow update, kindly tell me how I can do that.
First you need to change MID to EU
Then install EU marshmallow RUU

Yes as said in the guide unless you're running a rooted ROM.

ok thanks , I keep getting this error in the adb fastboot when flashing ruu zip . target reported max download size ( shows some big number bytes) .
Read the guide again .. you need htc_fastboot not normal fastboot.
At the end of the guide it shows 2 other methods on how to install RUU zip. Pick one thar you think it is easier for you.
