LG Download Mode tools on Linux - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo all,
as far as I understand, in order to root our devices (or doing something else) without unlock bootloader we have to gain a shell root access to the phone while it is in "download mode", am I correct?
Reading around I realized that it's quite "simple" in windows SOs using the "Send_Command.exe" utility, while linux users (like me) should use "qcdlcomm.py".
That said, does anyone know "lglaf" tool?
Did some of you try that utility?
Cheers.

[Q] Rooting - What's the manual process?

I'd like to put together a guide outlining how to root/S-OFF an Android Incredible 2 with Mac OS X, and perhaps develop a tool to assist. I've just done it with Parallels and Windows 7 via Revolutionary, but it seems to me there *must* be a way to do it directly. I know I can get ADB working, and issue commands via the terminal. The recoveries and ROMs are platform independent. Can someone tell me what a tool like Revolutionary actually *does* on a Linux system? Is it simply a matter of scripting a series of commands to perform some actions on some files? I don't seem to be able to find much reference on the nuts and bolts of the process, but it seems like duplicating it in Unix should be fairly simple. Any info or directions to further documentation would be much appreciated!
Edit: All I really need is link to some directions for manually rooting an Android Phone (and achieving S-OFF). Maybe something older, from before the days of packages like Revolutionary? Anyone?
Edit 2: OK, how about just very rough list of what ADB does during a Revolution-like session (send commands, push files)? If I can figure this out perhaps I'll have something to offer the thousands of Mac users who want to root their Android phones.

How to get into Qualcomm diagnostic mode?

Hello there.
I have been having the 'stupidly set baseband to USA and unable to change back' issue with my Nexus 5x, using a European version. I live in Croatia, so as you would imagine this has meant a complete loss of signal/mobile operator/3g etc.
As per my other thread in Nexus 5x help and troubleshooting,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/usa-baseband-set-european-model-t3252879
I have exhausted other options and have come to the realisation that as per other users issues with other phones that the use of QPST tools and using a clean QCN file to inject into my phone is the only course of action left. However, I have no knowledge of such things (not to say that I am unable to inform myself).
I emailed a developer with regards to users issues with Nexus 5 phones (not 5x), and he said that I need to enter this mode on my phone.
Could anyone help me out with this, and in general with this issue? As some have tried to help but unfortunately my thread has more of my own replies than other users. (In elaborating on steps taken to resolve my misery).
I am not looking for a 'one button fix', I have educated myself far and beyond with regards to this issue, I just need some more expert help so that I can sort this out myself.
Please, anyone?
Marko
Thank God.
I can actually get a new phone. Help not needed in the end.
Thanks anyway.

glad you got your probelm fixed dont know if this will help you or others but if you press *#*#4636#*#* your phone will enter a radio diagnostics tool where you can set your preferred network type and also select your radio baseband by using the 3 dots at the top. For my 5X i can select USA BAnd or Band mode 6, Band mode 7.
sorry if this is OT and not related to your issue.
Thank you for your input. However my phone does not have those options. Only USA band, which led to this week long stress for me. Im going to be able to get a replacement device in the end, so im happy about that, but this issue is unfortunately somewhat of a one way street wherin the usual simple solutions or even more complex adb, fastboot, etc etc things do not bring about any resolutions.
Again, thanks for trying to help but its a phone to phone kind of thing.

Best advice ever...
But.... If you are really hot on getting the 5x into diagnostic mode to run QPST, QXDM, etc., do this. (I did this on my 5x to obtain the QCN file to check out the NV and EFS items, grab QXDM logs, etc.)
1. Use Heisenberg's most excellent step-by-step tutorial on unlocking the boot loader, rooting the phone, and installing super user apk.
2. Once rooted, connect the phone to a PC and open up adb, then issue the adb shell command.
3. Once in adb shell, type: su -c 'setprop sys.usb.config diag, adb'
4. At this point, you should see a pop up on the phone to authorize super user access. Click to allow access.
5. Now you will probably have to load a driver on the computer for diag access. I got lucky (since I have a mess of drivers on my computer) and the driver loaded automatically. As I recall, my computer selected qcusbser.sys. Seems to be a pretty generic QCOM driver vs. an LG specific driver.
6. You now have diag access. You will have to run steps 2 - 3 after each phone reboot. In other words, these steps aren't "sticky" between reboots.
7. ????
8. Profit
I did this and it worked for me.

Hidden folders keeping from rooting my device

Hello, I tried rooting my device but there is an absence of folders when I try to get to my main folder. How can I fix that?
I can backtrack into the root folder but then can't go back in the main folder. Weird
with what? Pc or Android device?
Which Root you choose?
Using pc, regular rooting, I also noticed my phone secretly connects to wifi networks even when I stay on 4g, with wifi off.. I think I should scrap it.

What lead you to the Conclusion that your LG connects to Wifi?
What USB mode did You use? MTP or Other?
i meant Magisk or Supersu?
Bottloader UNlocked or USU´d?
please more Detail otherwise I can´t help.
I used the "Root your LG G4 with low effort root" tutorial. At one point, you have to send a dd command with a path way to an img image but since there's a hidden folder that seems to be unopenable, like a / "space" / thingy, the operation fails everytime..
About the wifi, it's because I play a game that uses p2p to connect players together, and even if I stay on my SIM card data for internet access, being near a free wifi source that blocks p2p made my game unplayable, as if I had connected to the wifi even tho my wifi is not on.

From My opinion I would Use another Root Methode. To many steps for My case
Is Your Bootloader unlocked?
If Yes, Try to Flash TWRP "fastboot Flash Recovery xxxx.IMG" and in TWRP install MAgisk.zip from xda and you have root
To your Wifi ...you are on Stock rom, so Wifi should turn off Properly. To Check if your Wifi is set up a wifi source with another device and test. In my opinion that should not be the case.

How do I Flash TWRP? Using send_command.exe?
If so, do I need to put the image on the phone, because if I do, I can't access it using Send_command since my base folder is hidden from the / 'space' / thingy...
How do I unlock my bootloader?
OK thats some Mord stuff to tell
For everything relatet to LG g4 i recommend you FWUL Form this forum by steadfasterx.
Thats a Linux distribution which you can write on USB stick
With this you dont need drivers for Windows anymore and ADB and fastboot is preinstalled.
There are two ways to unlock. Ofically through LG and by Salt (Form steadfasterx) which is in fwul.
Search the threads in xda and read about it.
If you only want root then your Methode is better but u can usw fwul to geht better acsses to you decive.

Android Auto on vivo phone

Hey, I recently received my vivo x60 pro plus. I'm trying to setup android auto and can't figure out why it's not working.
So my hope is, someone over here could help.
When I start the android auto app, it asks for several permissions. I've granted them all, but I'm not able to grant "floating windows" I don't know if this the correct translation for it.
It's simply not possible because android auto doesn't appear in that list and I can't activate it. Someone had similar issues or does have a workaround?
I'm on X60 pro plus...... Same issue....
Hi.
I have the same issue on an iqoo 5 since updating to android 11 (it worked before)
Have either of you managed to get android auto to work?
Exactly same issue here! Any progress?
Hi.
A little progress maybe.
I have managed to give permissions and get into the app on my phone using an adb command :
adb shell pm grant com.google.android.projection.gearhead android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
However, there is an issue when connecting to my car.
The phone screen seems to freeze and I must change the foreground app to something other than AA (android auto seems to crash)
The connection doesn't happen and no car is detected in android auto.

Hello. Since you use a x60. Did you realize that photos seems different in the native album comparing to google photos for example (both in the phone)? And in the native album that image seems to loose saturation when you try to edit it? Also, if you upload the pictures to google photos and try to see them in a compute screen, the saturation changes when zooming in the image?

The same thing to me. I was able do acess Android Auto on phone with this adb. However the car does not recognize the android auto on the phone and the phone does not recognize the connection with the car. It seems surprising how one of the most important apps in android does not work and vivo seems to be ignoring or not solving this issue.

Carlifeplus is not even close to the Android Auto. It's a Chinese app meant only for the phone and working only with other Chinese apps in Chinese language.
I've written to the support myself and haven't gotten any useful help either.
I like Vivo phones and I don't have other problems with Origin OS. I'm seriously considering buying X70 pro+ which suppose to hit the market in September. And I recommend Vivo to address AA issue very seriously. Because like many others, I won't buy any phone without AA. I would look somewhere else, the new Honor could be a decent replacement.
Hello, I found this application, I do not know if it could work to accept the permission, as it does not matter if the phone is blocked, I could try.

Redmi Note 8 locked, need help with unlocking/backup

Hello!
I need help regarding a Redmi Note 8 that no longer accepts the correct pattern and is locked.
I'm looking for a solution that would allow me to either unlock my phone without data loss, or make a backup of the phone's internal storage on an sd card/pc before hard resetting.
The device is not rooted and I don't have custom recovery installed. USB Debugging is on, but my laptop is not authorized.
With Adb, the device is detected but unauthorized. It seems to be detected normally in fastboot mode. I was able to get my laptop to detect it in recovery mode by clicking on "Connect with MIAssistant" while it was plugged in, but only in sideload mode. I also somehow managed to get into safe mode, but I used the stock screen lock, so unless there's something else that can be done in that mode, it doesn't seem useful in this situation.
I tried the actual MIAssistant software but it tells me to update my device before connecting. From what I found, this is because it doesn't even work with phones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above, so that seems to be a dead-end, unfortunately. Downloaded from here, updated to version 3.2.1.3111. If there's a newer version that could support my device, even an untranslated one, I would love to know, but I couldn't find a working one.
I had some ideas that could potentially solve my problem, but couldn't find a way to actually execute them, so here they are in case someone out there who knows more than me could help me with one of them.
1, Is there any way I could authorize my laptop for USB Debugging without being able to accept the prompt on screen?
2, Is there a way to make a backup of the internal storage of my phone in fastboot/sideload mode?
3, Is there a way to get adb to detect this device normally in recovery mode, instead of in sideload mode?
4, Is there a way to get my device into mtp/ptp mode instead of charging mode when connected to a PC without USB Debugging so I can copy my files?
5, Here's a thread I found that seems promising, although it's old. Could I somehow use this, or a similar method on Redmi Note 8? The Recovery Mode is much more limiting on this device, unfortunately, so I can't exactly follow this tutorial. Are there alternatives that can be done in adb fastboot/sideload mode, perhaps?
6, If I am forced to hard reset, is there any software out there that could recover at least some of the deleted data afterwards, or is everything lost in case of a reset?
I am open to new ideas not listed above, as well. I am not a very advanced user so I probably missed some things.
Thank you so much for any answer in advance!

Updated with extra info in case anyone else has any ideas.
Even if you can copy your files to PC, they are problably unusable because of encryption.
That is why you need that pattern
For security this is exactly what you want, if your phone is lost or stolen.

Do you mean that the reason it doesn't accept the correct pattern anymore is for security? I would have thought it would still accept the correct one, at least after several tries of the same thing. Being completely locked out even when you know the correct password is a little strange to me.
