The phone itself is looking to be the best flagship of the year so far, but HTC should have taken a page from Apple's page book and made it available sooner. I say this because many buyers want immediate satisfaction. Not shipping until early May is a mistake. The next flagship coming down the line will be the Galaxy Note 6 which is supposed to release as early as July. You can bet there will numerous leaks about the Note 6 between now and the time the HTC starts shipping. This will make many decide to wait and see what the Note 6 has to offer.
The price of $699 is too high unless HTC throws in some value in the way of package deals like LG has done with the G5 and Samsung has done with the G7.
The price is in line with other flagships. Although they're nice, I don't need extras.
The nice thing about the freebies from the other carriers is they have some resale value if you don't want them. It lowers the price overall for just the phone.

wouldnt say its the best of the year it looks horrible and that finger print scanner looks weird not even central if you have ocd you pretty ****ed lol and dont get me wrong not here bashing it because i have a samsung s7 edge now as my last 3 htcs have been m7 m8 and m9 so i am a bit of a htc fan boy just i think it doesnt have the premium looks of its predecessors and sadly will be giving it a miss this year
They are including high-res earphones and a QC 3.0 charger, I think they have a pretty well priced package imo.
I think the package and price are fine. Don't forget you're getting free accident insurance with it too - and that the bootloader is unlockable thru HTCdev.
Both the HTC and Exynos S7s have some tradeoffs to make on US carriers (such as LTE band 30 support missing on the 930/935F), so it's a matter of figuring out what works best for you.
I too have the S7E, and the 10 will have a hard time beating out the Edge IMO. I've been keeping my eye on the 10, but once they replaced front facing speakers with fingerprint scanner...I was like I already own a Galaxy phone since both the A9 & 10 resemble it from the front. If they had kept front facing speakers and put scanner on the back, I would've considered returning my S7E
Front facing scanner is the right way to do it. I don't want to lift the phone from my desk if I want to quickly peek. I am so glad they went this way.
And I am fine with dual speaker setup on HTC 10. Its not the best way for stereo sound but it works way better than mono on the S7 and G5.
Unlocked bootloader is the reason I will buy this phone though!! Bravo HTC! This time its officially supported. No voiding the warranty!
Looking like the best of all so far. S7 and G5 -> can't unlock bootloader -> No sale.
If you signed up for HTC's "exclusive for HTC owners" prior to the unveiling, they promised to send a special incentive.
The email just showed up and it was for $100 off a pre-order thru HTC.
It just keeps getting better.

Thanks, I was wondering when we were going to get that email. Thought maybe they forgot
The price for the unlocked version in Canada is 999$ + 10$ shipping = 1009$
Well its to expensive, lets buy a carrier branded version with a 2 years agreement... What? Bell mobility is the exclusive carrier? With a 85$/month plan? LOL
Well I guess I'll have to wait a few months before buying.
I think the price is on point with other flagships.
1) Bootloader unlocking with out voiding warranty.
2) UH OH Protection (purchased through HTC.com).
3) Quick charger and high end ear buds.
Also there WILL be discounts here and there (i.e. the current $100 off with email coupon).

Apparently I can share it via email. PM me your email and I'll send it.
The only thing I'm not sure about is if it's a unique promo code or not, which is why I haven't shared it publicly. If it ends up being the same, I'll gladly share it out.
NM - just saw it on Android Central and it's not unique, so here it is.

WTF!!! I F'ING LOVE YOU!!!
I haven't even posted here in a long time, maybe years and I just logged in right now to tell you how awesome you are! I was in the checkout page with an $817 bill decided to fish around for some coupons and luckily stumbled back here and ended up paying $707. Big difference IMO.
THANKS AGAIN!!!
You're welcome! Glad it worked out for you!
Very big difference indeed. Did you get some accessories with it to get the price up there?

Yeah I got that ice case. Funny when I looked this morning the $100 deal wasn't posted on the tech blogs yet and after I saw your post I saw it on all of the blogs haha. Sucks for those that were drooling and pulled the trigger immediately!
Again no freebies but what comes in the box is better than the others so I guess it was a good deal. Thanks again!
If you put the phone in your cart and go thru the point where you have to log in with your email and then abandon your cart, I'm pretty sure they will email you a "free shipping" offer within 24 hours as well.
Of course, if you're the type that is most concerned about being at the front of the line, you might not care
$699 out the gate is steep, but it's inline with Apple and Samsung. This phone will probably be $500 by September.

Really considering this, my first Android was the DHD and loved it. Been on the SGS2 since launch but this One X something about it that is making me want it.

I would go for it (well, obviously I would say that as I have pre-ordered it!)
However, the only issue for me has been battery life but with mobile chargers I decided that wouldn't be an issue. If you are not fussed about getting it on release, you could simply wait for the S3 announcement and decide between the two - although the One X camera will be hard to beat imo - the features anyway.
I've "registered my interest" with Vodafone. They're going to call me when it's available. Hopefully I'm one of the 1st in the queue.
not due for an upgrade until mid May, so I'm going to hold out to see if any major issues appear before I either upgrade or jump ship to another provider.
about 98% sure I will be getting one though
I think the options of the poll don't cover everything, my selection would be:
No, but considering to pre-order very soon...
I'm not 100% sure what is stopping me... I'd like to see an official announcement about beats, I'd be interested to know if the deluxe set would be released in UK, I'd like to know for sure what the final price would be (I'm going to be purchasing phone sim free).
I'm also changing companies in 5 months time and maybe they have different policies on phones so maybe I should wait... but then I could always sell it...
Also when I bought my HTC Desire maybe 6 months later they announced the Desire HD, so part of me also wonders if a new flagship will be released in 6 months time and maybe I should wait as I'm not in desperate need of a new phone... but on the other hand I cant think of anything that I need that isn't on the HTC One X and if I did buy it then I plan on it being my phone for the next 2 years.
The HTC One X looks good, I would really like to get back to Android sooner or later (WP7 is not for me...), I really want a HTC phone so GS3 is not an option for me.
So I'm more than likely going to pre-order I just haven't hit the submit button yet...

I use clove.uk. Handtec is good as well although they take your money upfront and lie about when it will be released. There is no tax. Clove.uk will send DHL for a minimal rate. Prices are very similar. There are other options as well.
I purchased from eBay on a pre-order auction from a reputable seller. The reason I did this is because I had a 10 percent off coupon for the electronics category. I ended up getting a black one out the door for 656 including shipping.
Suddenly I am interested in the S3, if the March 30th event is to be believed..
Still got my One X on pre-order - would anyone cancel and swap to the S3 if it is good enough?
Yes, the grey version!
I find it hard to wait for 2 weeks. Im looking forward
till the first real reviews!
Yeah!
i pre-ordered it on CLOVE TECHNOLOGY in UK (grey version) and is more cheapest than other sites
In Netherlands the price is already as low as € 545 excluding shipping. I wonder what price does after the release? I really want it. I think even though high price it must be worth. Ofcourse when waiting the price will go down, but keeping mine evo 3d until the price is dropped by like maybe € 100 then mine Evo 3D would be dropped in price even more.

Meh... I prefer HTC, but it isn't that simple. The GS2 produced arguably one of the best dev communities ever. That phone was spec'd out like a beast too. While I don't believe it was/is the end all be all, it deserves a lot of the attention it gets. Samsung put a lot of good hardware in, and they also ship their phones with unlocked bootloaders. Unlike HTC that is becoming less and less dev friendly...

Where are you getting that date from?
EDIT: Derp Nvm lol
There was a poster on there that said he worked for T-Mobile and they had a briefing. Its the most recent droid-life article for the HTC 10 talking about the update today. If you go in the comments. He has since deleted his post. I'm guessing it was pretty true for him to delete it.
I mean it would fall in line with the time frame. Id bet it gets announced tomorrow giving them a week to advertise. What else really could HTC and T-Mobile throw in? They cant throw in a Vive because its alot more expense than the lg 360 cam like they did with the G5 or what sammy did with the s7/s7e. Plus I'd imagine HTC doesnt wanna discount it too much. They need money lol
Not sure if this page is new or not - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10-t-mobile/

I'll try to check-in with our HTC Rep today and see. We expected a A LOT more info from the webinar other than "launching May 18 with a free Ice View case and extra charger" promo. The way she worded it made it sound like it was going to be a launch day only thing which I hope is not true... They've already made it more difficult to sell by killing off Uh-Oh! on carrier devices.

As per T-Mobile Twitter, no pre-order, just straight up launch.
I am not waiting until the 18th. Since I found another $100 off code that works, I just ordered via HTC with next day air for $7. $650 after taxes. I figure if I resell it this fall if the new Nexus proves to be great, I'll probably recoup what I would've paid in JOD payments anyway. Or if I really love the phone, I'll just return it within 30 days to HTC and use JOD with T-Mobile to get the extra freebies and not have to worry about re-selling later.
I hope this phone is available via jump on demand!
Would you guys / gals trade back in a Note 5 and "Jump" onto the HTC 10 ?
I never once use the S-Pen, and this Note has the same sized 3,000mAh battery as the 10, so they should get close to same battery life ? I always prefer Sense over TW.

Do we think it may be the same model as the unlocked variety except with different hardware? If that's the case, then I hope it would be possible to covert it to an unlocked varient.
Hello everyone it's been a while since I have posted anything on a HTC section. I am currently have the Note 7 and well I have to give it up. I was considering the S7 but there is practically zero roms for it due to the locked boot loader. I wanted to get some feedback from the community and see if your current experience and thoughts are on the 10.
I love trying out new roms, currently in love with TEKHD roms.
What do you guys like about the phone? Pros and cons. If you could go back, Would you consider the S7 despite the locked bootloader or buy a different phone?
The v20 is out but I am not digging the phone, mainly for the price point. Only reason to consider the S7 and S7 Edge is due to the free 256gb SD Card and 100 bucks in credit from samsung. Oh and lastly, I don't see a HTC 10 for tmobile, is there a reason for that?

I wouldn't get the S7. I had it for 4 months and was not happy with it, even though overall it's a great phone. I would DEF get the HTC 10 over it. The camera on the S7 has slightly more detail than the 10's, but the 10's is more color accurate (as is the screen vs. S7's). The sound quality during calls was not that great on my S7 (locked from T-Mobile). I have the Sony Xperia XP right now and even w/o VoLTE (incl. HD Voice) it still sounds WAY better. The single speaker on the S7 is the worst ever too. I mean it really sux! lol The HTC 10 also has cool features like double tap to wake & sleep, smart call handling/auto answer calls (answer calls by simply picking up phone while it lays flat and lifting it to your ear; no need to swipe screen anymore), etc. The audio technology on the HTC 10 is WAY better b/c they put in more money on it and everyone thinks it sounds the best! I listen to a lot of music on premium headphones, and I know the 10 won't disappoint (I tried it out for a week). If using a digital connection to the S7 for headphone listening, because of a USB driver issue, it will make your music skip like every 3-5 min. I really DON'T miss that! lol
Also, HTC is VERY cool with ppl unlocking its bootloaders. So since you like flashing ROMs, that's another plus with getting a 10.
The HTC 10 is currently on sale 'til next Monday for $150 off. The only down side is they're out of 2 of the 4 colors (available on unlocked models only) until most likely after the sale ends. So right now there's only the black and silver ones available, but both are nice too. I had the One M8 in silver a couple years ago and it was great phone! And they've only gotten better since, though I hope the HTC 11 moves that fingerprint sensor from the front and INTEGRATES it into the side Power button the way Sony does it, and then also move that bottom facing speaker back to its rightful place at the bottom front. We'll see. Still, the 10 is great though.
The 10 didn't sell well enough for T-Mobile to keep it in stock I guess, so you can only buy it from HTC or maybe Amazon (etc) online now? I guess SOME T-Mobile stores have it in stock still, but you'd have to call and find them, and there may not be any around you that do. The good news is, HTC actually CARED enough about their customers (unlike Sony Mobile) to get the unlocked HTC 10 certified with T-Mobile for their VoLTE (which includes HD Voice) and Wi-Fi Calling services, so you WILL get both of those features on even the unlocked one. I say get the unlocked one b/c more color options + you'll get updates faster cuz they won't have to go through T-Mobile first to get configured before deployment.
On top of all that, you get HTC's Uh-Oh Protection plan. The first year is covered with that (for free) for broken screens or water damage, and if you DON'T use it, you get a $100 credit off the purchase of a future HTC One series phone. More details here. A sweet deal if you ask me.
Hope that helps!

I called several stores and none of them have it. I know I can go directly to HTC and buy it but I can not afford to pay the full retail price. If you have Amazon Prime like I do, you could sign up for their Amazon Prime Store Card (log in to Amazon to see details). I got it sometime ago, and it lets you pay off any item at or over $149 over 6 mos interest-free, or at/over $599 12 mos interest-free. That's what I'm using now actually to pay off my Sony Xperia X Performance actually. Prices will vary here though and you HAVE to make sure not the get the int'l ones off Amazon b/c 4G LTE doesn't work on them. (Read the descriptions before buying.)
HTC.com DOES have a monthly financing option as well through PayPal. They say you get a $250 line of credit if approved, but when you go through the application process, it appears they raise it to cover the FULL price of the phone. You'll get 6 months to pay it off, interest-free. Select "PayPal Credit" in checkout to see that option on the HTC site.
Both options will require a credit check, which is not a big deal if you haven't recently applied for a credit card or credit of some kind and are in good standing. Even if you have applied once or twice recently, it should be fine. Look at the details of both and then make your decision.
P.S. See my last post again. I added some stuff like the Uh-Oh Protection part right when you replied.
Hope that helps! F Samsung! lol

I switched from Note 7 to HTC 10, so far the phone is blazing fast. Haven't experienced any lag of any kind unlike Note 7. When typing on the Note 7 you experience the input lag and you have to uninstall apps in order to make the phone fast. While htc 10 you don't have to delete apps to make the phone fast it's already fast. The only thing i miss from the note is the big screen and Samsung pay. Watching videos on the 10 is good experience especially with the loud speakers. So yeah if you can find the 10 in a store I highly recommend getting it.

I agree with L on the lag. My S7 lagged ALL the time. Funny how a phone with 4 GBs of RAM and an 820 processor is slower to load things up than my Sony Xperia X Performance, which only has 3 GBs of RAM. And yes, all the reviews indicate that both music and call quality is crystal clear on the 10 (which was the same for the previous One series phones by HTC).
I'll admit that Samsung Pay was kinda cool to have, but I'd never stay with Samsung just for that. That's literally the ONLY thing I miss about my S7. lol
Yes check the stores but seriously consider that PayPal Credit option too via the HTC site. That's what I would do. Plus by buying it through their site you get that Uh-Oh Protection, which you WON'T get if you buy it through T-Mobile or even Amazon. And if you don't use Uh-Oh, that's $100 off your next HTC phone, saving you even more money in the future.
I don't have much to add other than I was in your shoes looking to replace my Note 7 and I'm happy I got the HTC 10.
I didn't even know what fast was until I got this phone.

I had a tough decision between the Note 7 and the HTC 10 before I bought my device. It was before we knew they were all catching on fire, so I was seriously considering the Note 7 as well as the 10.
I pay full retail price on my devices, and money is tight so I have to be quite picky. I'm VERY happy that I chose the HTC 10 myself. The sunshine s off process is amazing, and worth every dime, you don't even have to bother with the bootloader unlock basically, if you go s-off, which I recommend in most cases of users (I have a theory for really wreckless people and s off, it's like drunk drivers, just put them in their own lane, they'll eliminate themselves)
For me, I only full with Android and run devices that I can root and flash on, it's my hobby, and kind of like my cars, I won't pay for something I can't tinker with or fix things I don't like, at least have the option.
While the HTC 10 hasn't been the largest device for custom rom quantity as far as development goes, I think the development quality is better than a lot of devices with way more roms available.
If you don't like HTC sense, and enjoy the HTC interface, I'd recommend a different device personally. You can eliminate HTC sense and run nova launcher, but the base of the rom will be HTC.
The kernels available for the device, if you enjoy flashing and tuning custom kernels, are awesome. All of the kernels I've tried from the development section ran really well, so it's not one of those cases where there's only a few options and they all suck, as some other devices have had, all of these rom and kernel developers have done outstanding.
Now for screen size, if you're buying the Note 7 for a huge screen, I would consider if it's going to be a problem that you only have a semi-huge screen. In my opinion, the screen size is perfect, I can reach everything easily and I don't have huge hands, and the fingerprint reader on the front of the HTC 10 is the ONLY fingerprint reader I've ever used consistently because it's the only one that's ever been implemented so well.
Charlies,
My "bootloader unlocking/rooting" days began & ended 2 years ago with my HTC One M8. At first I loved the extra freedom that comes with that world, but after a while I didn't like it so much b/c you have to do everything manually, so when I upgraded to the Sony Xperia Z3 later that year, that era was done with. Still, I got to upgrade my sound on my T-Mobile M8 from BoomSound to the Sprint Harman/Kardon sound using that process to obtain an H/K mod someone had extracted from the Sprint version. It def made a noticeable improvement in sound quality at the time, and I loved it! I too did the S-Off thing too (but not using Sunshine, I found another way that was free) as it was required in addition to unlocking the bootloader and rooting in order to install that mod. So I guess I was wreckless? lol
I feel like HTC is the only brand that not only lets you unlock the bootloader w/o penalty, but actually SUPPORTS the practice too.
Yes, when I had the HTC 10 that one week in June I recall the fingerprint sensor functioning very well too! I HATE phablets, so the HTC 10 is definitely what I'd go with over the Note anything. lol

Unlocked version is GSM; T-Mo and AT&T are GSM. That's the version I have and I use Ting, which uses T-Mo & AT&T.
Unlocked version direct from htc, nice warranty, unlock support, most recent RUUs available for download, $150 off won me over. I like the phone so far (only had it a week).
Wife loves it. We wanted the Note 7 but we also wanted to live. The Pixel, the S7, and the V20 just aren't worth the cost to us.

After that 1 year "Uh-Oh Protection" warranty ends, and you decide you want to keep it beyond the first year, you can do what I did which was get PRIVATE phone insurance for your phone. The 2 best ones are Square Trade and Worth Ave. Group. I went with Worth Ave. Group b/c I liked that they cover thefts too, though not malfunctions. Square Trade is the opposite. But if something goes wrong, just crack the screen and Worth Ave. will replace it anyway. lol And Worth is cheaper too.
Not everyone wants to get a new phone within a year of buying their last one, and not everyone wants or likes a carrier phone, so this is a great option for those people!

Insurance is to cover something one cannot afford to replace. If that's the case, then one shouldn't be buying phones one cannot afford!
Otherwise, my MIL-STD-810G-tested case is my "insurance".

Ok. I guess people shouldn't be buying homes and cars either. lol Just because I can afford something doesn't mean I wanna pay full price to replace it.
Hey, if you decide to get the HTC 10 let me know and I'll pm you a $150 off coupon code that HTC gave me.
In regards to the OP,
If you have the cash to dish out on an unlocked HTC 10 then you will definitely not be disappointed. At this point, HTC is one of the most 'modding friendly' companies left... next to buying a Nexus of course.
But if you don't have the cash i'd recommend getting a refurbished M8. They can be had for $90-$150. My son uses my old M8 now so I keep it updated... currently have S.Team's latest rom. Only areas where my 10 outshines the M8 is the Camera, DAC, & some gaming. In terms of day-to-day performance though, they are identical

Either way, insurance is only beneficial if the phone being replaced is fairly new. I've never tried any private insurance so I can't speak on that. But, you have to meet the deductible (up to $199) to get a phone replaced. You'd be better off using that $199 towards a better phone

Yes, it is only worth doing on a new device. I'll agree with you there.
$199? Maybe if you're insuring from AT&T. My insurer, Worth Ave. Group, only charges $50 for the deductible. And my phone is pretty new (purchased in mid to late June).

Yea, carriers is what I was referring to... AT&T and Verizon specifically. If it appears to be a manufacturer defect both will replace it for free even after the warranty expires. Ironically, Verizon is a little more lenient than AT&T in that aspect. I'm gonna look into Worth Ave. Group though. I skimmed through the link you gave & so far seems like decent way to go.

Ok. Yeah Square Trade won't cover theft, but will cover defective phones, where Worth Ave Group is the opposite. To me, if the phone goes bad, I'll just take a hammer to the screen and be done with it, since Worth DOES cover accidental damage and/or cracked screens. lol
I think Worth offers the best bang for your buck too. Plus they have an A+ rating with the BBB. Not much more you can ask for.

Hey samisax,
I wish I could give you specific information, but the fact is, that was 2 years ago, and I don't remember exactly what I did or how I did it. I just know that in order to install the Harman/Kardon mod that was exclusive to the Sprint HTC One M8 "Harman/Kardon Special Edition" phones (the M8 phones had all the SAME hardware, but Sprint H/K M8s had this software no other carrier or even HTC's unlocked phones did, until this guy created a mod from that software) onto my T-Mobile One M8, I had to unlock the bootloader, root the phone, AND switch "S-On" to "S-Off". The S-Off part was I THINK the hardest? I just remember it took me a few tries and I was up 'til like 2am one night doing it, but then right there I FINALLY got it, and was able to install the mod (amongst other things, but THAT was my priority). I remember definitely noticing an improvement in the already great sound, and being quite happy with the results. And now Harman/Kardon stereo systems are being put into Mercedes Benz cars. lol
I have no interest in going through all that again though. It was a cool "adventure" for 3-4 months there, but then I got tired and what was fun at first started feeling more like work. You have to maintain everything manually when you unlock the bootloader and/or root I learned, and I stopped enjoying that after a while. Not long after.... the Sony Xperia Z3 finally came out, and so I switched to that after about 6 mos with the M8....... and that (Z3) is arguably the best phone I ever had. I had S7 (Samsung.........mehh lol), the HTC 10 for like a week, and now the Sony Xperia X Performance. But the battery life on my Z3 TRUMPS those newer phones in that arena. I think it's really cool though that HTC is so supportive of and pro-modding. They clearly care more about their customers (esp U.S. customers) than Sony Mobile does. I'm seeing that more and more. As mentioned in my one post in this thread, HTC offers the Uh-Oh Protection Plan (and pays you $100 off your next phone if you don't use it)..........they made sure to activate the fingerprint sensor in the U.S. versions of the 10................they made sure to meet T-Mobile's certification requirements for VoLTE (including HD Voice) & Wi-Fi Calling on their unlocked phones................they release their phones in a TIMELY manner in the U.S......................these are all things Sony Mobile is unwilling to do. So in 2017 I may very well switch back. We'll see.
I was holding out hoping they would start getting desperate to get the recalled units back, let's hope this is the case, so i guess i should hold out longer now Nd see what happens. They should give us discounts on the next phone, but that doesn't really help being on contract for people like me on the next plan, if i switch the s7 edge right now, I'm locked in for a year unless I pay off half the phone, its a mess but I'm hoping this mess blows over soon, I dont want the S7 but I will use it temporarily until a real upgrade drops, otherwise I'll keep my Note 7, really just depends in what Samsung is willing to do to get me to give it up lol.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.techtimes.com/amp/articles/183031/20161022/samsung-considering-offering-galaxy-note-7-customers-discounts-on-new-galaxy-s8-s8-plus-and-note-8-upon-release.htm?client=ms-android-att-us
I was feeling the same until, in the interests of safety and concern I might need to fly unexpectedly, I swapped for an S7E. The phone is fine. I miss the iris scanner a bit. I barely used the s-pen. I think the battery life is better. I can totally live with this phone for a year or two. I'm on the Jump plan but I really don't make use of the upgrade option much.

So much for keeping the S8 a secret.
I think I've already made up my mind with the LG V20. So I'll pass on this offer.
Discount or not, many will still be in a contract if they were forced to take the S7...
Doesn't seem like this speculative deal is just for hold outs, but for anyone who owned a Note 7.

LCD? Really? I just can't see beyond that glaring weakness.
So far this offer appears to only be for users in South Korea - Samsung may simply never make the offer worldwide, that would be somewhat extreme and basically cost them double what this whole thing is costing them at this point in time.
Perhaps this offer arose for Korea because some 500 people are sueing them there already?
Now a S7 Edge explodes. wtf?

So I can sign up for an S7E then get a Note 8 upgrade mid term at 50% off? http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...korea-makes-it-easier-buy-galaxy-s8-or-note-8
Assuming they extend this offer to the UK that is. Well I returned my N7 and am awaiting a call from Carphone Warehouse to upgrade to the S7E. But I guess I'll only do this if they extend the offer to the UK...

I would be willing to bet that almost every model of phone has had a couple examples of individual phones having meltdowns. It's called "acceptable risk of failure"
i.e. the manufacturer tests and does calculations on their product, and analyzes it to determine how likely the device is to fail, and what the potential damage from said failure would be. If the financial risk due to that failure is lower than the cost to lower the failure rate, they don't care about it (unless the failure rate would be so high that it would draw negative media attention, such as the case with the Note 7).
I imagine that Samsung did this with the Note 7 - they looked at the situation and figured "well, we can swap to the single battery maker for xx million dollars, and replace existing batteries (as well as potentially the glass and body), and the failure rate risk will be lowered to 1 in whatever number of phones". Then when they did that, they realized that the continuing failure of first gen phones, combined with a very small handful of second gen phones (yes, there were 25 or so failures after the phones started being replaced, but not nearly all of those were second gen phones), the only options were either do a full recall, and mitigate the potential financial liability from a lawsuit, or do a complete recall and re-release the phone after putting it through even more extensive testing and possibly an update or repair to the hardware (requiring full recertification and testing for most countries they are sold in that require such certification). The cost was too great, and the risk was too great, so they canned the phone.

Oh of course. I'm actually brand neutral. I have tried many brand of smartphones over the years.
Starting with the HTC Dream, and then I've had Motorola, Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony and one more that slipped my mind.
The smartphone has become such a personal device for me, it has already superceded my laptop usage. I've had cheap smartphones in the past and I had enough of those. Few months ago, decided to have one super smartphone that does everything I need. And the Note 7 looked like it fit the bill. But we know how that ended up. And the S7 Edge doesn't quite fit the bill for me.
The LG V20 looks good for my daily use. I totally understand why you'd disagree. But we all have our personal preferences. And the V20 might just work out for me. At the same time, it would be the first time I'd try LG.

How was your Xiaomi experience? I'm eye-balling the Xiaomi Note 2 that just dropped today as a temporary device until the S8 or Note 8 comes out, something to just buy outright and enjoy. But never owned anything but Samsung, so yes I'll def lose the Samsung Perks, I.E. Samsung Pay, Gear VR Etc. But looks-wise Xiaomi did a DECENT job imitating the Note 7, that Skin is just blehhhhhh though.

They're decent smart devices for the price.
However, most reviews of smartphones (every smartphone, not just Xiaomi) fail to cover is the call quality. I mean, it's a smart -phone- after all.
I make phone calls all the time. My parents, my in-laws, my wife, friends, etc.
Once, my wife and I had the Redmi 2, and it was one of the most frustrating experiences we had. We were constantly struggling to make out what we're telling each other.
We've since switched phones. She got a Galaxy S6, I got the Xperia Z3 Compact, VoLTE and HD Voice was like butter to our ears.
I got the Note 7 initially, so that we could communicate using 3G video calls, something not many smartphones support. But now that the Note 7 is discontinued, I have to search for an alternative.
I was quite close to settle for the S7 (no Edge), until I discovered the V20 also supoorts 3G video calls. So I'm giving that a shot.
Edit - Oh and charging was slow. After experiencing quick charge, you can't go back.
To be fair, I'm not sure about the newer flagship Xiaomi phones. But I don't think I'll be getting another Mi phone soon. I am eager to try OnePlus 3 some day.

So far, reports suggests it's only in S Korea. Not worldwide.
This is the last message I will type with my Note7, after I finish this I will wipe and put it in its box for collection tomorrow. Every item lovingly wrapped in its original packing and lables perfectly packaged looking like the box was never opened.

Also do I just hand over the Note7 box or should I wrap it in something?

I would love to keep the accessories. Just don't want to mess up refund etc
I am pretty sure a lot of people just sent the phone in and kept the accessories. I know that's what I am going to do. I doubt there will be anything said or done about it. Hell, I spent hundreds on accessories for my Note 7 that will be useless once I turn the phone in, so it is a very small thing to keep the charger and cord IMO. Doesn't nearly make up for all I lost in the big picture.
ooMoo you don't say what country you are in but from what I remember of your previous posts you are UK based like myself.
I've returned both the original and replacement phones. Each time I only returned the phone (the first one I even kept the Spen as a spare for the replacment) and have had no problems and now received my refund from Samsung.
It's not like they can do anything with second hand accessories, they'll just become more landfill. Be eco-friendly and keep them!

I'm sure the bits would come in handy. I just hope if I do keep a few bits I'm as lucky as you when they check.
it all depends if they check, O2 actually commented on the fact I never put the USB lead and S-Pen nibs in with the first replacement, ended up they did want them when I said they were welcome to send someone to pick them up like they did the phone. with the final return they wanted the Gear VR back I was going to send it back I have no use for it any more, the courier refused to take anything more than the phone in the box, I had to wait over a week after them getting the phone collected before I could even get them to remove the Note off my account so I could get another phone, during that time they complained about the Gear VR not being there so I offered to return it to a store or send it back if they sent a paid packet but they decided it didn't matter so they obviously had the phone it was still about another 4-5 days before I could get them to remove the phone from my account by that point I had got a a Pixel XL from EE and told them they could go fornicate with a rusty pole.
but then what can you expect from the firm that once told me 3G was a failure and no one would ever use it.
so what you have to send back depends on the firm you got your phone from and how crap and unhelpful they are.
Samsung does not care about anything but the phone. Not the stylus nor the accessories nor the VR or SD card or Gear Fit2 that were issued on promotion.. They do not care if you take a hammer and smash the Note7 to bits. They just want the Note back so they can check it off the list and send it to a recycling firm.
IF you run into some shady sellers that require you to produce the Promo items or accessories know that they only want to be able to profit from your gullibility or the goodness of your heart.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely keeping the rest. Just returning the phone.

That's it for me. My Note 7 has departed. Feeling depressed now.
Don't feel so sad. If you can wait for Note8, it will be thabomb . OK, bad joke. But those that say Note8 should be amazing are probably right because Samsung needs to get their reputation back badly.

Carphone Warehouse here in the UK are the country's biggest mobile phone supplier. in addition, all the Samsung stores in the UK are in fact staffed and run by Carphone Warehouse.
Carphone Warehouse insist on you handing the GearVR over.
I got my fire proof box to send my phone back a couple of days ago. I only put the phone in the box. I even kept the s-pen for my next device that it might be compatible with.

Well, I did say Samsung. How is it possible to fit the VR headset into the ceramic box they send for recovery? It isn't.... Are they sending a shipping container for the VR headset? I doubt they are.
So, Samsung only cares about the phone getting returned like I said. Whatever this other company wants is above and beyond the recall process and they just want to make some flow. Remember, the VR headsets were subsidized by Samsung and no one else....
Sadly my ride with the note7 is coming to an end. I got my Axon 7 which is a very nice phone. Not a note7 but it looks and feels nice.

Same here. If by any chance a customer didn't return to the store every single thing in the box etc, Samsung charged the store. My store was so angered by the attitude over the VR that the STORE gave me a VR themselves FOC.
The Samsung importer in this country is awful.
This is one major area I think Samsung Korea should have cleaned its act up by making one rule across the globe for returns.
Knowing UK consumer laws are stiff I would suspect, I don't know, that the VR as a free 'gift' would not be required to be part of any return. I would think a visit to ones local CAB and a chat with one of their legal reps would soon sort that out?

Or.... One could be selfish and not invest any more free time into this matter by driving to a physical storefront, waiting in queue, spending gas or transit fees AND ENDANGERING EVERYONE AROUND THEM by carelessly transporting these DEADLY devices through the public thoroughfares and simply say ....come and get it.
That would show just what you need to return or not. heh heh heh
