I've avoided making this thread for a while now, hoping that the problem would subside, but it hasn't.
The XDA forums, at least for me, is extremely slow. Like painfully slow at times. I realize that this is a huge site, with many many users performing all sorts of different tasks at the same time, but I have no experienced a major site like this behaving this slow for the past few months now. And it's different tasks that are slow too. Loading different threads, navigating to the next page, checking notifications, it's all dreadfully slow. I like to think that I have a fair amount of patience but sometimes the delay is unbearable, causing me to click the link again. And again... And again, until I receive this false and generic error message most likely in place just to prevent people from spamming the site or something.

My internet speed is decent:
(I took a picture instead of a screenshot so no one can say I've used photoshop or some silly crap like that)
Pinging forum.xda-developers.com results in 27ms times on average, which is pretty decent.
I've even taken a video of this lack of speed for you guys!

(Struggled to keep it profanity-free. Sorry for the white noise in the video, it's my air purifier on my desk. -- Page load time is like 5 seconds. What am I on dial-up?)
I've timed several page loads at nearly 8 seconds sometimes using the stopwatch on my phone. It's incredible. Is there something going on that I'm not aware of? Is the site slow like this for others? Thoughts? Recommendations?

Yes, XDA is slow. Maybe...
But what do you think about a forum with 7,173,534 members?

I did mention that I realize there are a lot of users but the amount of members doesn't really reflect how busy the site is at a given moment in time. 7,173,534 members, but the most ever online at one time was 135,390 over a year ago. Even at midnight EST (far from what I'd consider peak hours) there are ~23,000 people online, and the page loads are unbearable.
Each page has a LOT of custom content - ie the sidebar on the right, ads, custom written plugins etc. it's not the fastest forum, but it's not as slow as some. It'll depend on a large number of factors. I can't say I've ever had an issue with it being that slow where I've had to click a link for a second time.
@bitpushr might be able to provide some input here.
it's not as slow as different
slow for me too
even more slower on XDA 2015 theme
I can still confirm this issue.
Browsing sub-forums history is a horror.
Even with addons like NoScript and Ghostery, in multiple browsers, with a Anti-Malware modified hosts file this issue is persistent.
heck, evening opening threads takes me back to 2005.
Unfortunately it is the least performant webpage that I use. However, content is one of the most relevant to me.
This is the slowest forum on the web. Period. It sucks to use.
The loading times for me seem very up and down sometimes loads in a few seconds sometimes like 5-10 seconds...
Mostly slow for daily usage...

i would appreciate feedback and feature-requests.
Your last picture posted here has a grammatical error - 'has been', not 'has be'.
Tried this app. Very smooth.. in fact, a bit too sensitive.. When i scrolled, I keep opened links accidentally.
A ligther background or something more 'relax' would be nice I think. This is a bit too 'dark' to my liking.
hey bro, i tried looking hard, couldnt find the gramatical error.... i might be going blind
as for the over sensitivity, rest assured i would be passing the feedback to obelix, the creator of the slider control; which is used in this app. I have to give him credit for making this awesome control that cuts the development by almost half when designing the UI portion
Would take that as a feature request and put it into my tast list for the next few releases
once again thanks for not only using the app, but providing feedback for it too. There is no point in people just using app without telling us, the developers, what they really want to see. Its after all you the users who end up using it on a daily basis. So thank you!
on a side note, got a nice email from microsoft this morning
Hi
Just wonder - would you consider making this reads the other Singapore e-news intead of just ST? While it's nice to have one app for one news site, I really don't like the idea of filling my screen with few icons for different newspaper.
Just a thought. Of cos', it would have to be a different names then. Ha..
But this programme so far running very smoothly and scrolling is good too. Well done!
hmm, it would increase the complexity of the app, introducing the possibilities of having more bugs. I would avoid that.
moreover i have done up the CNA app as well as the backend of Today app as well... just a matter of time before they become general release items as well

It seems very cool...but I would like to have this for other newspaper...
the straits time with Windows Phone 7 theme. Nice touch
Definitely gonna try this out. Great development.
looks great! will try it out now

This is great, though wishing there are others like CNA or Newpaper
Also I'm getting this error on my HD2 once in a while after I quit or while using the app (can't take a screenshot for some odd reason)...but other than that, it's working fine. And I notice a 2 second lag when I scroll it way way up or down (till the icons are gone) before they appear again but meh, I could still live with it

The KIN's browser has javascript... and I've been playing a few javascript games on the phone and they work wonderfully. And it's really nice that you can pin the web pages on the apps screen. Some games require arrow keys that the kin lacks so games like tetris don't work properly. What i'm trying to get at is why don't we try to develop Javascript applications designed for use with this phone? Downside is you have to have a data plan or be on wifi to use the applications. But on the brightside it is a solution to the lack of apps on the phone.
Below are screenshots of some Javascript apps and the app menu.

or we can develope applications that download to the phone and dont require internet?
Personally, two things: no connection needed, saves.
The nvidia part is a monster if used right, and we have a qwerty to map as keys for random emulators (if the OS protection is broken).
And i will use javascript to do some jailbreak or something, like i stated and/or normal website ajax requests....

I see where you're coming from. It's just this phone is so locked down and we haven't been able to get around it... Possibly some time in the future we may. This is just a proposal for one of the possibilities. I also like the idea of jailbreaking through javascript.

Well, in theory if we could access the storage of the phone so we could read/write files to it... we could store the document on the phone and point the browser to it's location.

as far as i know, KIN's browser doesn't support urls starting with "ftp://" and "file://"
So, i see no way to access files through browser.
JavaScript App Development in Browser
I've experimented with developing hosted applications to run in the web browser (data connection required). Unfortunately, the double-tap delay introduces an irritating latency into the browser's response, making it seem slow. It waits for a second tap for zooming in, then responds to a single tap if the second tap doesn't occur within the wait period.
My experiment was to clone the Calculator application, adding scientific functions below the first step of buttons. When the phone is held horizontally, you have a basic calculator. Turning it vertically reveals the extended functions. Anyway, this latency causes the application's response to lag behind your input.
www .gregsearle.com/kin/scicalc.html (work in progress, somewhat flaky, you'll need to reassemble this link).
This is great, thanks for posting up this website. Does anyone know of other places to access these types of games?
The scientific calculator is finished as a proof-of-concept test, but the browser's tap lag makes it difficult to use. If there was a way to eliminate this lag, browser-based apps may be an effective solution.
I know this sounds noob-ish, but if this thing is based on WP7, then we can
a) get the Windows Phone 7 people to help us create a virus/something to crack the system.
b) Use the Chevron WP7 unlocker to hack the KIN. http://www.chevronwp7.com/
c) Connect an external harddrive/USB to this and see if we can get a connection. If we do, we can load up some sort of program like CWM to flash ROMS, edit the system, etc.
I know my ideas might be stupid, but doesn't hurt to try.

Correct. The phone was originally planned to be the first WP7 product, but due to time and other issues, they used a very customised build of Windows Mobile 6.
The phone will always attempt to cache the last page loaded so that you can access it offline for a while. However, some pages can't be cached.
Just a thought
Before anyone freaks out on me, know that I haven't done any programming in 10 years (so I'm pretty much useless there), but I can do research for things people have done in the past. I stumbled across a method to cache games called "cache manifest". It seems to have been used by iphone/ipad users a lot (not sure why since they have apps). However, I did add a couple of the games I found that use it to my "apps" page on my KIN and while they can't be played (I guess not a compatible Java), I was able to pull it up 10 hours later without WIFI and see the start screen and some counters and drop down menus. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this and can mention if it may help. If this is useless sorry for wasting every bodies time. I'll give a couple example below.

Yes but as far as I recall last time I checked it doesn't allow you to create a master password which is a bad lack or security imo.

I don't see this problem, All what I'm dong is to check the "Remember Me" box, and it does it all.

If you use LastPass, you can make a master password and set sites to automagically log you in. This doesn't work on all sites, and some sites will fight LastPass over login protocols, so it's kind of a trial and error thing to get it to gel right with your online experience. Facebook for example works well. Bookmark the root site (Facebook.com) and set it to auto login. It just works. And it works in all the major browsers, even little ole Chrome.
I prefer Firefox... well, Pale Moon... well, Pale Moon Portable, haha. Same difference. Between Adblock Plus, NoScript, and Cookie Whitelist With Buttons (silly name, don't laugh, it does good) and a search box, Chrome just can't keep up. I've been fortunate enough to have avoided the memory leaks that Chrome users say made them switch, and Pale Moon is plenty fast enough for me. I could run Windows 2000 if all I cared about was speed. You start adding features, it slows down a hair, it's a fair trade.
Anyway, I've checked "Remember Me" when I log in, and it still likes to log me out after ~5 minutes of inactivity. Cookies are fine but I'm only accepting first-party cookies (i.e. from xda-developers.com while I'm here). NoScript is blocking a script from netshelter.net. It's allowing them from google-analytics.com, googleapis.com, and of course xda-developers.com.

Honestly, i couldn't be more impressed with this app. Not only does it use no data since it goes through your wifi network, it transfers insanely fast. I transferred a 200MB wmv file in under a minute. like most of you i have had some MTP issues where things have transferred very slowly, and this was much faster.
Additionally, where as MTP will sometimes load no thumbnails of your images making it very difficult to find which one your looking for, airdroid loads them all.
it also allows you to access your contacts, sms (and even send sms!), as well as full access to the entire internal memory. You can even see all of your installed applications as well as uninstall them (requires confirmation from the phone).
honestly, i'm incredibly impressed with airdroid, and considering it's free, even more so.
just figured since i've found this app so incredibly useful, i thought it would be best to spread it around here.
i'm not the developer or anything like that, i just found it and loved it. don't think i'll ever connect my phone to the computer again.
Thanks! Nice new tool,appreciate it

Been using it since I got the GNexus. Great app, haven't had any FC's at all. Only issue (not sure if it's universal) is that WiFi transfers do not work with the screen off for me, but beyond that, its great for quickly dropping in files to the phone. Great browser interface for the most part as well.
@nweaver: considering i'm posting this in the galaxy nexus forum, and i say i have a galaxy nexus, and the galaxy nexus can only run android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then yes, i'm on ICS.
And yes they say they have problems with ICS, i haven't noticed any. And if you look at the reviews for the galaxy nexus then they're almost all 5 stars.
@Jebus: strange that transfers don't work with the screen off, they work just fine for me. transferred pictures and videos with the screen off. I noticed in the battery that while it's running it keeps the phone awake, for obvious reasons, it's possible that your rom or some app is interfering with it, and stopping it from having the phone awake even though the screen is off.
*edit* Oh yeah 1000 posts!
This looks great. Gonna download it and have a play. Wasn't too impressed with MTP so hopefully this is an adequate replacement. Accessing contacts and texting etc. is a nice extra perk too!
Just one bug so far...
The only bug I've found so far is that I fail to receive the new sms text notification on the web interface and that I have to manually refresh the conversation window - I'm using Chrome. Anyone else have this problem?
Other than that it's a great app - can't believe I didn't come across this sooner!
How is this AirDroid different from MyPhoneExplorer? Not beeing sarcastic just asking a legitimate question.

after looking around, airdroid looks a lot nicer, and runs in the browser instead of a separate app. aside from that they're very similar but myphoneexplorer has some more features for syncing and other things.
personally, airdroid is better for file management because of the simple windowed design, and full working thumbnails, and that it works right from your browser, so no extra application to install. aside from that, MPE is better in a few ways. i think it'll come down to your preference and what you need.
personally i'm using this for moving pictures and other files too and from the device since i can actually see thumbnails through this and not through MTP.
I was not aware that such things existed. My compliments to the chef!
I'm also a big fan of this app. A little slower than USB but much easier, especially in Linux. Two things I'd like to see though: Downloaded files, are in a generically named zip file, it would be nice for them to at least have an appropriate name. The other thing that would be nice is a Chrome and Firefox extension to automatically connect, so we don't have to type in a different address every time.
I was having major problems with MTP and downloaded this on my first night with my Gnex.
Amazing and saved me from much frustration. Awesome app!
Cant get airplay to work at all
just says waiting ... tried in IE and Chrome.
@wilbur-force: don't forget to activate it in the phone first. and it works perfectly in firefox.

The only thing that bugs me is (and maybe I am doing it wrong?) that when I upload for example a picture to my wallpaper folder on the phone Airdroid creates its own "wallpaper" folder for only the files I just uploaded instead of dropping the uploads into my already existing "wallpaper" folder that I initially selected as the upload destination.
So when I go into the gallery (stock) on my phone later on I have two folders named "wallpaper"
Anyone else running into this?
My "wallpaper" folder is a subfolder of my "pictures" folder on the root directory of the phone.
thanks ill give it a go
I use Websharing. It is a paid app, but let you use webdav protocol. (I can access phone storage as a network share).
Also, I can stop the service. Airdroid 1.0.6 removed this option. Waiting a fix to start using it to decide between webshare and airdroid.
i personally use it on my mac and it's very useful and save my a lot of time.
What the title and poll say. Yesterday I noticed that the sub-tabs/grouped tabs (I forget what Google called them) feature was gone on my phone (where I had, for example, two separate XDA pages open in a group). All the tabs still existed but at a "root" level and there's no longer a way to group tabs together.
And today, I noticed that all the tabs I had open yesterday are now gone. Yes, I could go through history if I really needed them badly enough, but truthfully, without the grouped tabs feature, I don't want them all back as it would be a mess.
I can't find settings in Chrome regarding grouping or saving my previously opened tabs, although just now when I opened it, it at least had the tabs open that I had opened earlier today.
I'm on Chrome Android v96.0.4664.45. I'm not currently signed up for any beta versions of Google apps (other than the usual whole Google universe is constantly beta).
TIA

Thank you, but no thank you.
I've just noticed perhaps a new way of handling the grouped tabs in Chrome, but still sucks I lost what I had and how they were organized.

I haven't felt the need to fool with flags on mobile Chrome recently - I know I had just a little bit from time to time previously, so I can't really advise you much on that. The most recent flag I had fooled with was several months ago to enable Chrome Beta or Developer version to be able to display JPEG XL format images, which is the more widely adopted successor to FLIF (Free Lossless Image Format) and the same author is involved in both.
The flag was
Code:
chrome://flags/#enable-jxl
at the time on both mobile and desktop. I'm pretty sure that the feature is now in the stable Chrome channel, although last I checked, it wasn't enabled by default yet.
On desktop Chrome, there are at least one or two flags I switch but I don't think they apply or are necessary on mobile Chrome.
OT: A couple of years ago I switched to the Chromium-based Edge (I think Samsung's is Chromium-based, too, isn't it?), and I liked it quite well until a year and a half ago when they Microsoftified / Dumbified an aspect of the browser that drove me to quickly go back to Chrome (many folks complained that there wasn't an option to retain the old functionality while there were a few folks who insisted that the old way of doing things wasn't even necessary - similarly to how some people think that because they don't need something, that no one needs that thing and that the first people who need it are just wrong, but I digress.
The only place I still use Edge is on my work laptops since my work uses Google for everything, and therefore have Chrome's settings locked down so that I can't even easily have it re-open my last opened tabs after they force reboot my laptops overnight for updates. When I encounter the aspect of Edge that I can't stand, it still drives me nuts, but at least I can control other aspects I can't normally on my work machines.
