Hi. I am really in a jam here. I have read a lot of documentation and still am not getting anywhere. I bought my sister a Kindle Fire for her birthday, and after reading the Kindle Fire for Beginner's Guide, I was able to successfully install Cyanogenmod 10.1 It was working fine, but I gave it some thought and decided she would be better off with the stock software, so I followed the instructions here to revert.
However, somewhere in that process I bricked the device. I went through the installing the Amazon software again in TWRP and told the device to reboot, but it is now stuck on the boot screen and will not respond to adb commands I send it.
I used the Kindle Fire Utility to install TWRP again, and it said it was successfully installed. I tried to boot into it through the Kindle Fire Utility menu, but it is still stuck.
It just so happens that I have a fastboot cable for this, so I plugged it in and tried to boot into recovery by issuing
C:\kfu\tools>fastboot oem idme bootmode 5001
It just says:
<waiting for device>
and nothing happens.
I don't know what else to do. I do think this factory cable put me in fastboot mode because the Windows device manager is showing "Android ADB Interface" (which according to Kindle Fire for Beginners is what it is supposed to say if the drivers are good and I am in fastboot mode), but I do not know how else to make use of this.
I am really stuck here, and I hope someone will take the time to help. My sister's birthday is in two days and I need to get this Kindle fixed and in the mail

OK. So lets cover the basics.

^ Download and run that tool. Its very useful for un-bricking your Kindle
Once that is done, reboot into recovery and wipe every things. (sorry, we're going to start you from fresh start)
I'm going to suggest you try to install this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2103278
The reason being that this one will give you the option to also wipe a few other places (including boot)
Now assuming you still want to keep with stock

This is basically the stock ROM by its rooted.

Thank you for your reply! I ran the Kindle Fire unbrick tool with the option "Stuck at logo," and it said "Congratulations, your Kindle should be unbricked. However, nothing had changed. So I ran it with the option "Other . . ." It said:

< waiting for device >
I have left it like that for ten minutes now and nothing is happening. Do you think it is working? I'll leave it alone for an hour or so I guess but I'm wondering.
BTW, for this I just used a regular USB cable and not the factory one. Is that right?
Thanks!

The unbrick program didn't work. It just stayed there t <waiting for device>. How can I use the fastboot cable to fix it?
Thanks.
I had the same problem before. It always says no device found. I tried different PC, finally in my XP PC it is detected and new ROM flashed in
Maybe you should try different PC

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately I don't have another PC running Windows. All my others are running Linux, and I don't know how to get the drivers working.
I think I will borrow a laptop from a friend tomorrow and see if it works. It is my sister's 17th birthday today and her present is late!
In the meantime, though, does anyone know how I am supposed to use this fastboot cable? I have looked around and I see a lot of tutorials about how to unbrick without a fastboot cable, but none saying how to do it WITH one. I thought the cable was supposed to make it easier?
Thanks for the help.

First of all, Happy Birthday to your sister!
I think you may need install the firefirefire utility first to help you out of bootmode sucking. After you successfully reinstall the TWRP using unbrick utility, you need change the fastboot mode to normal boot, the firefirefire can help you choose,
here is the information may help you : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668159

I'd say you didn't read the previous posts.
Well, now the Kindle Fire is no longer being recognized by my computers. I borrowed another Windows computer like I said I would, but when I plug in the Kindle, the Device Manger does not even register it. Also, usually when I plug it in, the computer will realize I have plugged in a usb device and respond with that little pop up at the task bar, i.e. to let me know it sees a usb device and is trying to install driver, was not able to install drivers, or whatever. But now nothing. The computer doesn't even see it.
I have tried it on two different computers with three different cables and it's the same thing. I have restarted the computer and reinstalled the drivers over and over again and there is no difference. What is going on? It was seeing the Kindle fine before I tried the Unbricking Utility.

I'm assuming you know for sure this was a 1st Generation Kindle, right?
I had this problem once and basically formatted my computer. The driver was the issue and I couldn't uninstall it completely. Using my drivers solved this. I get the feeling you're still trying to use the drivers that came with the utility (don't they're often trouble)
However, assuming you are using the correct drivers (the ones I linked for you).... Boot into TWRP and wipe everything. Don't just use the general, click the advance options and wipe everything (selecting all options manually).
No connect your Kindle and don't worry about it not showing up yet....
Mount your SSD (should suddenly find your kindle) and upload this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211872
Now if you can't even load TWRP (when you turn on the Kindle, you'll need to hold the power button to bring up the menu, then quickly hit it a few times until its on recovery).... But if you can't load TWRP at all, its time to get a factory cable.
If you have a factory cable and still can't find the device (and assuming you're using the right drivers, on a fresh install) .... As someone else who knows how to do this. Because past that, all hope is lost.

Hi, My name i Jonah and i have a Kindle fire (5th generation) That came stock with Amazon's Fire OS Bellini 5.1.1. I tried to flash Cm12 with the app FlashFire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaCBSuUuhRE&spfreload=10) and during the installation i noticed it stopped for a while and didnt do anything. So i waited then 10 minutes later i decided to turn it off and turn it back on to fix it, when it started to boot up it showed the Cm logo just like as if it was running Cm12. So i waited, maybe 5 min at the most and it still would not turn on. So i turned it off, went online to see ho to get out of a bootloop. Rootjunky said to Turn your Kindle off and run ADB and Fastboot as a command from where you installed your drivers. Then he said he said to enter Recovery mode by pressing vol down and the power button. It is suppose'd to say Recovery-Mode in the corner but it just kept showing the Amazon logo. Im worried i screwed up and broke my new tablet, i can't return it because it's against Amazon's policy to root or mod any content of Amazon's, Plus ADB isn't working i can only access fastboot. I tried fixing it with the stock charger also but how do i know what kind of Android charger should i use?

Repost what?
Sent from my ocean using XDA Labs
This post is coming after hours upon hours and days upon days of research, trial, and no success. Hopefully someone can help me out...
I was asked to work on a "bricked Kindle" due to a reputaion among friends and co-workers of being the "go to" guy for rooting, custom ROMs, and the like. I am familiar with adb, fastboot, etc, and have used them often. Even though I didn't know what had happened to this particular Kindle, I was confident I could fix it.
I got it and began investigating. It powered on and FFF 1.4a popped up, followed by the stock Kindle logo where it stayed. I rebooted and used FFF to boot to Recovery, which is TWRP 2.6.3.1. Further checking found that there is no ROM installed, only FFF and TWRP, nothing else. I thought "This will be easy!". Wrong...
I connected it to my Windows 7 PC and ... nothing. Didn't even show as anything being connected at all. Installed drivers, still no luck. ADB doesn't see it either. Tried using 'mount' in TWRP, nope. Then began my trip down the numerous fixit programs KFU, FireKit, ReKindle, etc. Not a thing. Linux doesn't see it either. Like it is not even connected. Even tried the USB Shorting Trick, still wont register on anything, as anything. Bought a Fasboot "Factory" Cable, still nothing. My only hope at this point is the terminal in TWRP. I have successfully run various commands in there, verified the different boot modes with idme. Found that it did change to Fastboot (4002) and back to Normal (4000) when asked. Attempted to use Parted for some investigation but it is difficult to use in that terminal. I did discover that several partitions are screwed up. How to fix them is beyond my expertise. My thought at the moment is to wipe the thing 100%, partitions and all, to see if I can then connect at least with FK or something to reformat and put FFF and TWRP back on (latest versions). Also when looking through the logs in the terminal, it listed failures with an OMAP clock file.
The original owner told me he knew it couldn't be fixed and told me to keep it. I think it is still possible to salvage it. Any ideas?
Thanks.

If you want to re-do the partitions and install the very latest bootloader and TWRP +ROM, you should install otterX (1st gen only!!). Follow the steps in this link and you'll be fine.

I would like to give that a try but the problem is that I cant push anything to the device w/ adb at the moment. No computer, Linux or Windows, will recognize it at all (not even incorrectly). I thought initially that the usb port on the Kindle was bad but I can get it to react differently when it is plugged in vs not. For example, when the fastboot cable is connected it stops at the FFF boot screen as if it is in fastboot, but nothing recognizes it and fastboot doesn't work. When I connect to the computer with a regular cable it will turn the Kindle on and charge it, but no connection. I am still leaning toward it being some kind of software problem on the Kindle.

Hi, Noob here but I faced a similar situation to you just last week. The ONLY thing that helped me is a tool known as Return2Stock by N2A. Since I am new, I cannot post outside links but I made a post on reddit in the kindle fire "hot" section titled Bricked Kindle Fire With No Access to TWRP (it's on the first page about halfway down. It describes what I had to do in order to get it working. But it did work! And I tried EVERYTHING. Good luck
Edit: I had switched to a different (charge-only) cable halfway through and not realized it. Switched back and the phone was recognized again.
Steps:
I unlocked my bootloader with Wug's toolkit.
I installed the zips that it asked me to (that it put on my SD card).
I updated SuperSU
I got a notice to update the SuperSU binary.
SuperSU binary won't install via Play.
Tried to install via TWRP and recovery isn't twrp, seems to be stock recovery (thought I installed it, maybe not)
Now the toolkit won't recognize my device. neither will windows. It gives me the USB noise but won't show the device in the folder list and defaults to USB for Charging. I can change it but it doesn't make it recognizable.
I'm trying ot back out and try again but the toolkit says it finds the device but that it's listed as "offline". When I toggle the USB debugging, it doesn't ask me to fingerprint my computer.
When I try the "soft brick" option to flash from the bootloader, the script reports a failure "data transfer failure (unknown error)", then says "rebooting into bootloader..." and does nothing else BUT my phone's bootloader still says "downloading..." When I reboot, the script throws another failure and says "waiting for device". when I bootload into it again and connect, the script throws more failures.
I've been on this for 4 hours, getting pretty fatigued (through the night on a weekend when family is visiting. yes, I'm an idiot for trying this procedure but the 5 went so smoothly I was optimistic).
try reinstalling the drivers. also the OEM-lock option in the dev-settings may help bringing you back to step one.
I was halfway through installing the drivers when I quit for sleep last night.
I'm using the LG-Mobile-Driver_v3.14.1.exe package, and the installer says it installed successfully, but windows says that MTP and PCI Simple Communications Controller had "No driver found", so the device doesn't show up in my drive list and wugfresh won't detect it.
I've removed all Google, LG, MTP, and Nexus drivers in USBDeview, but can't seem to figure this out.
I was able to get the drivers installed on my wife's system, so I'll open another thread about this if I can't get them to work.
Try using @Heisenberg root instructions if you get back to stock. I've tried multiple times to use the toolkit to no avail. I've had to resort to Heisenberg's root method every time and it just works.
You may wonder why I've rooted multiple times...I was testing with Android Pay and wanted to start clean. Although I was able to use the toolkit to get back to stock easily.

so, the reason my computer stopped recognizing the phone was that I switched to a charge-only cable without realizing it. Switched back and the phone recognized fine.
The weird thing is, the charge-only cable worked fine for data xfer on my wife's system.
So I bricked my FireTV last night during an upgrade to rbox's latest fw...
Short story is, it got to the Amazon app optimization after the flash fine so I went back to the computer to start working on the second box while it did it's thing. I mistakenly sent the reboot recovery command to the box that was optimizing itself. I didn't notice I was sending the command to the wrong box until I saw that my second unit was not rebooting to recovery.
Needless to say, it now no longer boots to any logos, and does not turn on at all (no light when plugged in, not even for a split second).
What are my options to unbrick? I'm taking a guess that the SD reader/eMMC method is the only one. If so, is it possible to retain an unlocked bootloader/etc with this method? I've read you'd lose it, but I'm not familiar.
If someone could point me in the right direction that'd be awesome. I tried google but it's filled with loads of outdated or unrelated information (mostly debricking if the amazon logo appears) or info from when the initial hardware root method came out.
i am in the same boat. if you find anything let me know.
after following the downgrade tutorial, I executed the command as instructed adb reboot recovery
device reboots into recovery,
update starts..... after while reboots...
upon reboot
no light on device no logo on screen - black screen
connecting to win7 machine with USB cable it initially recognizes the box, but cannot connect with either ADB nor FASTBOOT - searching for device

At least you can connect with USB! I get no connection at all to the pc with a A-A cable.
I would suggest for you trying to get the timing right and initiate the fastboot commands right when the device is recognized.
You people need to reflash your partitions, this happened to me months ago. Can't search for the thread now, I think the steps were in the FireTV1 5.0.5.1 thread...
my device bootloader is not unlocked. I was following the steps to downgrade firmware in an attempt to unlock the bootloader.
in Win7 Control Panel > System > Device Manager the FireTV1 appears as QHSUSB_DLOAD - i think I am also going to try this ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66961740&postcount=676
thanks for the advice ldeveraux, ill take a look.
Ordered the eMMC adapter from exploiteers. This is likely the only way I'll be able to fix this as the USB A-A cable is not detecting my FTV
Well I managed to get my device talking with an A-A USB cable while waiting for my eMMC adapter. So now to flash
Is there a way to recover with this method without losing the ability to unlock the bootloader? Bootloader was unlocked prior to the brick.
UPDATE: annnddd it didn't work for me. Was getting I/O errors while writing and now the device no longer gives me partitions in /dev/. The usb device still shows up however.
how did you get the /dev/ partition to appear ?
which linux distro did you download / install as I cannot see any partitions on my device
did you use the linux in a VM ? & did you have the windows drivers installed beforehand ?
thanks
Tl;dr: DM-VERITY error after upgrading, SIM card not recognized. Can't get fastboot to work to try out a solution. Everything is going to ****.
So... this one's a doozy.
I tried to install the update by dropping it onto my phone and using TWRP to install it, which I ended up having to update. After I updated, I get a brief second popup screen when I reboot telling me that there is an invalid DM-VERITY (it only pops up for a second). When the phone loads, it doesn't recognize SIMs.
I did some research and it looks like the issue can be fixed by flashing the stock recovery. So I go to flash the stock recovery, which requires the usage of fastboot. Which I always have problems with.
Sure enough, adb recognizes my device but fastboot doesn't. I have all the drivers downloaded, so I go check on my device in device manager. For some reason, it's always listed under "Portable Devices" no matter what I do... no matter whether I enable/disable USB debugging, MTP/PTP/Charging, etc. I was under the impression that a device not being recognized by fastboot meant that you had to go find it under "other devices" and manually update the drivers. However, the only options here are ADB drivers, not bootloader ones.
So I did more research. Turns out that Windows 10 is ****ty and you have to disable secure boot to install unsigned drivers. So I went into my BIOS, disabled it, booted into safe mode, reinstalled the drivers, and... nothing.
So I'm basically where I started and for the first time in a while, I have no clue what to do. Nothing's working. I even tried to load an older version of OxygenOS and install it with TWRP (sideloading didn't work), which didn't work. I'm totally stuck and I have no idea what to do.
If you don't care about your data, just use the unbrick guide method 2. Don't know about the first one, I have never used that. That will get you to a like new phone. You could even get 4.0.3 version, using the newer unbrick toolkit.
Windows 10 x64 isn't that sh**y. I've never had issues with the drivers, and they all install automatically (fastboot, adb, unbrick tool). They all work with 4 phones without any issues: OP3, Nexus 5X, Nexus 5, Nexus 4.
True, I had just unbrick my op3 2 days back by method 2 .
Well this was wild
So I did try to unbrick and got the Sahara communication error.
But I ended up fixing my problem! Someone on Reddit correctly pointed out that the dm-verity screen often exists simply as a result of unlocking the bootloader. I was assuming that one symptom caused the other. They suggested just reflashing OnePlus's 4.1.3 full ROM. I did it exactly the same way as I had when I got the error (with TWRP) and... it worked!
I'm astounded. My phone wouldn't work with fastboot, wasn't recognized by the unbrick toolkit, and had a host of other issues. I did 7 hours of work on it and the solution ended up being that I just needed to reinstall the OS (again). My hypothesis is that there was some hidden issue that resulted in part of the firmware being incorrectly updated, and when I wiped my device as part of my troubleshooting process it was ready to be reflashed with the OS.
Thank you guys so much anyway!
