I haven't been on here for quite some time and wanted to know if others with this phone have been able to get something different (possibly V10) from LG. This morning I was looking at a media intensive web page and the phone froze (has done this many times) then rebooted. After the LG splash screen it just died despite having 44% battery. After this it would not recognize being charged and would not power on. If I let it sit long enough and remove and replace the battery it will show the LG splash screen then die again.
I'm asking the question about switching devices because there has been nothing but problems from touch screen misses, to the QC 808 heating up like an oven, now the bootloop issue. I've always came to XDA to mod an already perfectly working phone. I am now feeling like I'll have to start modding my phone just to get it to work right. I am thinking of reaching out to LG to try see if they are giving any options to us.
The same thing happened to me this morning, was looking at a video on Facebook when it suddenly froze up! Did not respond to anything... Had to pull the battery but now it does not respond to anything, had 90% battery!... After doing what You wrote, waiting a while and then put the battery back in it started up, but it stays on the LG logo for aprox a minute, before it just goes black again!? Did You find a solution? It is under a year old, so I presume this is a reclamation from LG? I have never had any issues with it like oveheating etc etc, only thing was a dead pixel on the screen when I bought it, but got a replacement screen without any problems from the service provider, so the sevice and time used was great, really hope that it is going that smoot this time too.... But seems like there are a lot of issues with the G4.... my wifes G4 has has the problems with overheating and battery drain, but mine has worked great, until now ?

Check your S/N. If that starts with anything between 505 and 509... welcome to the club.
That's a well know issue with logic board on those batches causing the board to die and requiring replacement.
I am in the club, It starts with 505 ?? i tought it was the bootloop issue on those numbers, did not know there was a issue with the motherboards before I started googleing.. And I did not know it replyed the 505-509 batch, so thanks for the info? so if it is a known case for LG and their repair services, it should not be any discussion about replacing it ?

He's guessing.
Just to be completely clear:
There has been no official confirmation from LG or any official source of what devices are affected and what causes the issues.
Anybody saying it's 505's only, 505-509 are only speculating and have no official information.
LG have stated that the bootloop is covered for another 3 months outside the standard 12 month warranty.

Hi,
I just get a e-980.
With no special reason, the screen stop working, I realized under the sunlight, that my LCD still working, but I have no more backlight.
I can barely see white color shapes.
Is it a ''normal'' issue with those phones?
- I've opened it, clean contacts from ribbon cables. - didn't work
- I've done a complete stock reflash with LgFlashTool - didn't work
If you guys have no clue, I'm scared that I'm dealing with a brick, and get back my old reliable desireZ
thank you
Guess first thing to do in such a situation is to check if there is some obvious glitch- maybe brightness turned down to zero, phone not waking up die to some mod etc.. If does not work, then next is factory reset.. Next is a tot flash and then visit to the service center

yep. All done.
Like I said, I can receive calls/txt. I ear the unlock sound, etc. I can see LCD ON under bright sunlight.
Right now, I'm just thinking to throw it in the garbage, a 250$us phone that worked 2 days !!! Wow, people told me to never touch LG, I start to believe them.
Maybe some body here can sell me a functional LCD with broken digitizer??, mine is brand new.
I just dont want to dump more money in it, since the HTC is working strong, even for a 4 yo device
I'll try with LG warranty service, but it was a final sale
Exactly same issue with me too
I bought my LG OPTIMUS G PRO a few days back refurbished, it worked flawlessly for around a week. A few days ago its screen went blank even though it was possible to use screen blank like answering calls etc, i thought humidity has affected it and buried it in rice for one day and it worked again but after 2 days it again went blank and this time burying it didn't help. I am without luck now and looking for some workaround. Please someone help us if anyone knows how to fix it?
Awaiting eagerly for some suggestions.:crying:
Mmm seem to be a LG problem...
Event on optimus G forums people seems to have this trouble.
You just remind me something, went the screen go off, it was 90% rel humidity here, good point.
I tried to put it under high heat and the freezer. no luck.
All I want to know it's if it's the main board problem or screen.
Last time with LG pos, my brother had the LG 3D, wow, pos as well, nexus aren't the best phone as well.
HTC ftw, but the latest models are so no-user friendly on the hardware, seems like they try to copy apple.
My moto milestone 500mhz (2009) still working better than this, lol.
If you don't have a warranty, I'd open it up then clean and reseat the screen dongle connector.
This happened to my optimus g. Suddenly the screen went dark. I opened it up reseated everything and it didn't help. Thinking of buying a mee lcd when I find one cheap enough

yeah, but how you'll be sure that problem wont came back in a year?
The last time I heard about backlight stop working/burn, it was on compaq laptop with pentiumII processor.
1 1/2 year old phone, that's not normal.
any way, I put the phone in a bag of rice for the night, powered up, and the back light came on for 3 seconds.
-- 5 days and still have NO supports from LG.
This is just a thought. I had something similar happen in one of two ways, either the screen turning all red or dark. It was an issue with a night reading program, Twilight. After I managed to turn that off the problem went away.
If you have programs like Lux or Twilight running or anything that can control the screen try and turn them off.
Update.
I didn't touch the phone for days, leaving the battery out. Then I put it back just to be ready to retry a clean flash.
Screen all black.
I had something to do, I leave it on my desk for few hours, and when I came back to play with it, the screen light up. It's been a day , no issue, but some times the screen flicker.
It will probably let me down soon.
Strange issue : the home button led light doesn't work anymore.
Is it because I flashed the telcel stock rom on the e980 at&t?

They just don't care, the moment I said that I bought this phone to the US and use it on a Canada carrier (Rogers / At&T , dont need to unlock the phone! ) , they flush me .
WTF???????????
Seriously people, don't deal with them.
So far, what I learn is that more this device is getting old ( wtf? a year or so isn't old) they have observed this issue.
Be careful pals, don't over use it
IF you buy a LG product, do not expect customer support. My e980 had a failed battery at 10months, LG basically told me to go screw my self. (Wanted me to pay to ship the phone, which would cost more then a new battery, and why do they need the phone when the battery is faulty, i gave up, bought myself a new battery, and have been good since. ) other then that, i like their hardware, ive had a G2X and now the G pro.

I see a lot of people try to blame manufacturer for the issues of their phone. LG, HTC, Samsung, Apple.
Remember, they all offer one year warranty. So if your phone is still under warranty, go RMA. I already got two HTC and one Samsung exchanged.
If your phone is not under warranty, did you buy it used ? Then you should blame the previous owner or yourself. Why did this happen to your phone ONLY while ten's of thousands of users here are fine?Did you do something that may cause the issue?
This is not personal. I just try to say something fair when I see people said "Never touch LG/Samsung/HTC.."
It won't help your phone come back. And it did mislead other users

It doesn't sound like they told you to "go screw yourself" exactly. It actually makes quite a bit of sense that a manufacturer would want all of a faulty device to arrive rather than that their customer just send them the parts they assessed as faulty. If they had to send you a new device, they would probably want the old one intact.

I called LG to exchange my Nexus 4 earlier this year. I call only once and they give me a shipping address( HTC also give address when I called ), asking to ship within 10 days or so .
They did NOT ask the carrier of my Nexus 4.( T-Mobile if you want to know ). They just check Imei and verified that the phone was under warranty.
I did not send the phone back to LG in the end. Someone bought it from me. The Nexus 4 has light yellow tint on display but hardly noticeable. The buyer don't care..
My point is, OP, I guess you did not told us that your phone might not be under warranty

Asking you to shipping back to factory is Exactly what is called customer service.
All manufacturers do so!
They need to run full software and hardware check on your device, making sure that all parts are working when they return the phone to you.
You might care a few bucks shipping cost . But truth is that maybe battery was not just the faulty part. Something else MIGHT go wrong as well. They need to find out once you call in for RMA.
It is YOU don't know what customer service is, Not them.
Hi all,
Just got news of the marshmallow being available to my LG G4 (H815). I was aware of the update having been rolled out to Poland and Korea before so I thought it was a safe bet.
I plugged in my phone, started the LG Bridge software which prompted me with the update. I went on and downloaded it, which happened without any issues.
However, when the process was over and my phone restarted, it went through the usual "app optimization" window and after that started boot-looping. I have the initial audio cue from LG playing every few minutes, with the same "app optimization" for 12 apps (when the first time it was around 90).
I initially left it for a while (5-10min) before i started losing patience. I removed the battery but that didn't change anything.
I initiated the Recovery mode, but it prompted me with a "factory reset" question, which I didn't feel like doing before having tried anything else.
My phone is not rooted and was running Android 5.1, the LG variant. I never fiddled with this phone.
Has anyone else experienced issues updating? Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to recover my data? Because for me, that's mostly what I'm concerned of.
Thanks!
Edit: In addition, I'm facing a new problem... while boot-looping, my phone is actually draining more energy from the battery than my charger can provide (yet, it's a 1,8A @ 5V).
It's now down to 10%, which I've been able to verify by removing the battery thus shutting down the phone, putting the battery back inside, and plugging the phone in while being off. However, this automatically turns on the phone, so it briefly displays the battery charging animation before booting... My phone was at 100% during the Marshmallow update.

yes it can be a issue of the 505.. Not to scare you or anybody else (there are people here that are crying and closing threads because i talk things like this.) But 505 is a known issue that some of the motherboards have defects. I hope you can fix it for yourself or call the cheap manufacturer LG..

I figured, they would just try to restore my device and send it back to me, so I tried it and it worked. I'm still disapointed for two reasons:
- I still lost valuable data which I can't retrieve any more
- I'm still stuck with my device which could very well be prone to other issues in the future (any future update ?)
There are issues with this phone because i had 3 Rma's because of motherboard and dead pixels. My wife has also dead pixel and has version 506. Just use your phone, Marshmallow update is out so maybe they changed something in the system to stabilize the motherboard.

Got mine April 1st. Worked great until May 9th. In the morning it hung and went into a boot loop. After 7 or so reboots (at various stages of boot cycle) it came back. A few hours later it did it again. This time 4 or 5 times and went dead. I tried battery pull, SD card/SIM card pull, and even swapped to my fully charged spare battery. It will not power on.
Called Sprint and they offered to sell me a used phone or fix it for a fee. Called LG. LG said they would take care of it but I would have to send in the phone for repairs and it would be about a 2 week turn around.
It's too bad because I really do like the phone but It'll take a while to regain my confidence in it...coupled with the locked boot loader...I don't know. It has the potential to be a great phone but LG may be shooting themselves in the foot.
Yeah I've had the same issue. For some reason sometimes it would get itself stuck in a boot loop. I would wonder like what the heck is going on... My camera also stopped working functionally and I couldn't make phone calls. I tried factory resetting it and issues were still there. I had to send in my phone which was super dumb... Not only is my phone not working but I have to be without it for like two weeks.
This used to happen with G3... I went back to Samsung. But now i got G5 and i havent had any problems.

my boot loops all happened in the same area, my wife's work. First time when I dropped her off on my way to work and again when I picked her up on the way home. I've noticed before there's a spot where I get really bad reception in the driveway of work and the phone switches to 3G or worse. Both loops started when that occurred. It may have just been a coincidence...and I've certainly been other places with various degrees of worse reception...I was at a datacenter inside a faraday cage just the week before and didn't have any problems.
Since these phones can't be rooted yet I haven't done anything that any consumer wouldn't be able to do. I DID disable some services and installed adguard, but anyone can do that and none of it requires elevated privilege or voids the phone's warranty.
The status on the LG web site is now "repair in progress".
Fortunately I use GV so I can answer my calls and texts from any phone and just went back to my G3 while thr G5 is out for repairs.
Interestingly, when I called LG they didn't even ask me for details. They immediately said "send it back and we'll fix it". Either they have really good no-hassle customer service (they might, this is my first experience with LG customer service so I have no frame of reference) or this is more common than they let on and they know about it.
phone is on the way back. the fault on the repair order is listed as "power management IC".
Let's see what others with this problem get....if you sent your phone to LG for repairs the diagnosed problem will be listed on the email from LG notifying you the phone has been fixed. Looks like the PMIC problem was present in the G4 as well.
I wonder if there was a manufacturing defect in the first batch.

Nothin to do with first batch g4s even repair still doing it. They said any g4 aft sept 15 was good. Nope even more are looping everyday.
I haven't experienced this issue. I have had the screen ghosting issue, and my volume-down button just stopped working altogether a month ago. I've debated sending it in for repair, but I have been able to manage with the on screen controls. I really cannot go two weeks with no phone in my line of work.

Hey guys,
Yesterday I noticed some screen ghosting on my LG g4 on the top right where the battery icon, signal status etc are. I turned it off for 6 hours and noticed it got slightly better then i used an app which stimulates all the pixels on the screen for about 8 hours by flashing different colours. After this all ghosting went away but after i used my phone for about 2 minutes it made a new ghost. Please help me fix this permanently. I am currently using the same app with the intention of keeping it on for a full day.

Honestly LG has given me the worst android experience to date. Had the damn phone for 3 months an it was the taiwanese g4 which has no way to unlock its bootloader. The worst part is that the screen ghosting came up on the same day i decided to sell it and buy a oneplus 3 instead. Now i wont be able to sell it for a good price and that means i can't afford the oneplus. Never buying from LG again.

I understand exactly what you mean.
i have it also and it's ANNOYING as hell!!! I returned mine 2 weeks ago not only because of this but also because i cannot see nor connect to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Just 2 months prior top this the phone killed itself (not even 1 year old) and had to get a new PCB. LG if you are reading this, i want my money back.
Note to the people, please don't buy LG crap!
LG G4 bootloop
The bootloop - problem on all the LG phones from the main series is caused due to a less safety check in fabric and causes cause the processor releases from the mainboard during heat, mechanical load etc and the connections were broken! To fix, the processor have to pushed back on the mainboard with heat - I think a hair dryer is a good way to do that
If there are any other problems with the CPU itself - I don't know but sometimes the processor itself can be partially damaged
I've even a G4 which has stoped working on June.04.'17 and I'll try to apply this step in a professional environment. (you've to fully open it, put a hair dryer on the processor, heat the processor and push it down on the mainboard) The best video on yt to do that: search for "LG G4 BOOTLOOP FIX REPAIR VIDEO"
>>By holding the vol+ -key and plug in the USB-cable it bootet once... ..and works... ..but then heats up! - That might work for quick saving data on the PC!<<
I hope that could help!

Hi all,
so here is my problem.
Day before yesterday i had a perfectly working LG g4 H815 model with s/n 511 running on firmware v20h, when i decided to root it and install some mods.
so i flashed TWRP, installed xposed and xtrememusic mod. the phone booted normally after installing these. i didn't install any modules under xposed. the phone worked perfectly for two days. however today morning it hanged while taking photo with the camera app. when restarting it got stuck at LG logo for long time. My brother(who doesn't have any technical knowledge) pulled out the battery and restarted. Again it got stuck at LG logo. thinking somthing wrong he again repeated this only to find that it didn't power on at all this time. No LG logo no notofication light nothing.
Tried charging it(although battery was aroung 60-70%), pressing power button removing the battery. still nothing. the phone is not at all powering up.
However when i connect it with USB cable with laptop, laptop makes sound of getting usb connection detected. i took it to a service centre.
the technical guy there told that IC may have been faulty. he told me that motherboard needs to be replaced. however unofficially he may try heating the IC to get it booting.
What should i do now? Is the IC really fried. had the rooting and installing mod caused it?
Please help.
PS- the phone is imported and cannot be sent back for warranty purpose.
I think you are experiencing the dreaded LG G4 bootloop. I don't think rooting or modding caused a software problem. It "may" have caused a hardware problem simply because it generated enough heat to loosen the IC that little bit that initiates the problems you are describing. I rooted and installed the stock image in Nov 2015. Two weeks ago the phone froze - restarted and then could not be booted. LG sent me a Fedex label and I sent it off. Ten days later I received the same phone back. I assume they replaced the mainboard.
You should contact LG directly. I saw a class action suit that was called off because it appeared that LG will fix this particular problem (failed mainboard) out of warranty. Anyone please correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Hi thanks for the help.
But isn't the dreaded bootloop is that where the phone is stuck at the LG logo. Mine isn't booting at all. And the bootloop problem is due to big cores or such and not due to ic?
Mine wouldn't start at all - it bootlooped once for about a split second - then it was dead
Same is the problem with me. Bootlooped twice and then its completely dead. I have tried contacting Lg UK. Lets see what they say.
Ok so i got a reply from LG and they suggested me some steps to take (which are obviously not useful as it is completely dead). however they have also told me that they are willing to help me and asked me about details of purchase etc and "whether it was rooted".
so what should i reply rooted or not? will they detect it as it is dead.

Sorry to be late on reply. I advise to not answer question whether phone was rooted. Here is my reasoning:
1. This problem is widely occuring - only a tiny percentage of people root their phones therefore question is irrelevant.
2. The problem is known to be that an IC becomes loose most likely due to heat - a better question would be - do you place the phone on a hot dashboard with GPS running while you are charging?

thanks for the reply (although late). i have already sent the phone to LG replying as no root. Lets hope they repair it without any problems.
second i didnt do anything of anysort like placing on hot dashboard or such. one day while opening the camera app it decided to just hang and later on die on me.
I hope you didn't think I was saying you might have done something that would overheat your phone such as my second example. I was trying to come up with an example reason the IC loosens. Even if you did that the phone should survive such conditions. Let's hope the replacement motherboards somehow do better. My guess is that the soldering job is fine, the problem is probably bad design that doesn't "vent" the heat from chip.

so what do you suggest after repair should i keep it or sell it? Lg g4 is no doubt the best phone when considering the value for money. no phone even twice in price comes close in camera and screen quality especially. but the unreliability of this phone has made me to consider selling it as soon as i get it back.
I'd keep it if your new board is high serial

Well my old board was also high serial, beginning with 511
I'm going to take my chances - it's a great phone until it bootloops. I'm going to avoid scenarios best I can that could result in the phone heating up inside. That would be charging only if absolutely necessary while in my ProClip dash mount if the car is hot, using backup battery after depletion instead of charging more often etc. Thinking back I rarely put the phone into heat inducing situations - normal use results in the IC becoming loose at the 1 year mark. If mine bootloops exactly a year from now and LG fixes it again I'm an LG fan. If they blow me off no more LG.
I really regret not paying it off early and taking the $15/month deal for an S7 Edge last month
