[Q] How can I change the bootanimation? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, I am either rusty as hell or something has changed... I'm trying to change my boot animation and no matter what I try I keep getting black screen unless I download straight off of rom toolbox. But then I cannot resize it.
I've tried resizing all of the jpg's, extracting the zip and changing desc.txt on notepad++ and I can't even remember what else.
Please someone help me figure this out. It is aggravating the hell out of me that I cannot figure the simplest thing!
EDIT: Only thing I can think of is that I need insecure boot... If so does anyone have one?
EDIT: I figured it out... I ended up flashing one through twrp and it worked.

YES you need insecure kernel or s-off system must mount as rw you can do this in twrp recovery open it go to mount mount system ...put your bootanimation on SD open explorer in twrp and copy it to system /resource and give it chmod 0644 then reboot

I flash insecure kernel yesterday and flashed through twrp. Thanks

[Q] Have to Flash Recovery Every Reboot?

Quick story:
I just unlocked and rooted my phone yesterday,
and I installed Rom Mananger to flash clockwork recovery and i noticed that I have to flash it every single time for it to work... As in every time when I try to reboot into recovery without reflashing it, it gives me an android with red error sign in the middle?
Please help me with this!
Thanks!
Yes I'm a newb
I am in the same boat! I hope one of the experts offers some help!
Have you tried renaming or deleting the 'recover-from-boot.p' file in /system? That fixed it for me, I renamed it to recover-from-boot.p.bak using root explorer, reflashed the recovery and all is well now.

GENERAL FORUM!! Sorry but reported.
Was hoping for a quick answer here

Just repack the files in the zip, so that they are not in folder Jellyboot6 and try to flash in recovery.
This does not belong in the development section. This is strictly for development amd developers only. All questions must be posted in the Q&A section only.
Thread Moved.

I'm still having issues, even after attempting to flash the zip after re zipping it, installing from HBOOT anything i've tried on Lliors CDMA Experimental, the wifi will not work.
Is the file actually signed?
sentfromybrain
I don't know, but I do know i had success at least flashing the zip file after unzipping it and zipping all the files together into the zip instead of while they were in a folder. but even then the wifi problem persisted and continues to not work.
OK it's a start! Did you have success in recovery or hboot

I had success flashing the boot image and the zip archive no problem, but the wifi problem is still there even after flashing the zip like was originally implied...
Okay, JellyBoot6 is a no go no matter how you do it, I tried flashing the zip archive while still on the jellyboot5 kernal, rebooted continues reboot into recovery and couldnt get CM10 to boot, then I tried flashing the kernel in HBOOT after flashing the zip archive, was able to boot into CM10 but still no working WiFi.

To get the new Jellybot6 Kernel to work, with WIFI included, one must do the following:
1. Flash the boot.img through fastboot
2. Use a root file explorer such as ES file explorer
2a. If using ES file explorer, you must enable root permissions in the settings and make system read/write
3. copy the bcmdhd.ko file located in the download zip and paste it into /system/lib/modules
4. reboot and enjoy the new Jellyboot6 Kernel update.
Yea the "flash in recovery" post threw everyone for a loop.

Newer jelly boots work fine. Sick kernel is jelly boot... if you run adb shell lsmod and nothing appears you did not flash properly

2 things you should try:
Flash TWRP not CWM, TWRP is better in my opinion, and can make it much easier when using the recovery.
Re-download the ZIP and if possible compare the MD5/CheckSUM's to see if they match
Also, are you making sure your flashing the correct boot.img after flashing the ROM?
for a start, the zips aren't meant to be unzipped... secondly can you actually enter the recovery?

tried redownloading the roms and still the same error/s pops up., i dont know if its just in my laptop so right now im using a different unit to see if i can successfully get what i want.,
im successful in flashing the boot.img as well coming from the same ROM., the ROMs don't install., there's something about "zip...bad" then the installation aborts, that's when i tried extracting those that i downloaded and the zip extract errors appear., i believe (if not mistaken) zips can always be unzipped, there shouldn't be any errors at any case right?
by the way, thanks to both of you for your immediate response..

No worries, as stated mate the ZIP shouldn't even be un-zipped. It should be downloaded, placed on the device and then flashed from your recovery or by sideloading it using ADB.
Also, are you using WinRAR? If not get WinRAR from Rarlab.co.uk
That may help.
Let us know how you get on

ok sir thanks., example for the viper ROM (i cant post in their thread yet coz i have less than 10 posts atm) it said there that i should extract the boot.img inside the ROM., did i read that right?
most of the ROMs in ICS dont have separate boot.img where can i get them?
thanks everyone for all the responses., I'm way past the zip problem.,darn wasted so much time redowloading the ROMs.,
gonna flash my device later on to see if everything will be fine., ^^

Great, what was your resolution for the ZIP Problem?
And yes, you should take the boot.img out, as thats flashed separately in order to actually boot the Phone.

Use a root explorer and navigate to /system, there will be some recovery____.sh file and one in /system/etc too. Rename these files. (P.s I don't know exactly what its called)

I have this same problem and the file you mention doesn't exist in either location. I flashed the new tar you have up today. Recovery fails to load at first and the samsung white load screen flashed a couple time. Eventually the default recovery loads.
recovery-from-boot.p / install-recovery.sh. Search for these in /system. This is all I got, try reading around the toolkit thread, there should be something there

That first one is there yes. I should delete that?
Rename to something else

Marshmallow boot aninimation

Flashable marshmallow boot animation, 1080p version works great.
Figured I'd go ahead and post it here for those that mainly browse device forums and want to get rid of that boring oneplus boot animation.
Flashed with no wipes- all good.
Edit: Where's my head, forgot to give credit to @frantisek.nesveda - the following is a link to his thread in 'Android Development and Hacking/Android Themes'.

Don't know. I flashed with TWRP, but I guess you could try stock. Doubt it though.
How can I make a backup of the stock boot animation, or where can I download a copy of it, in case I want to revert? Also, will flashing OTA updates revert the change as well?

You can rename "bootanimation.zip" to "bootanimation.zip.bak" to backup.
Not sure if OTAs will overwrite the boot animation, but I doubt it.
