Hello guys!
Background
___________________________________
I'm here to report a sad thing that is happening to me. I'll try to keep it short.
I bought my Zenfone 2 64/4 and got it by first days of october. It's one of the best and fastest phones I've ever used. I noticed the display came defective with the lower left corner a little dimmer than the rest of it, but I couldn't care less because increasing brightness would solve my problem. The bad part was on about december or january when I dropped my phone, I did drop it twice: it slipped from my hands the first time but it was a light fall of like 30 cm; and the second was from greater height and so intense it got scratches on the back cover and the frame, (the impact was on the case and it got no scratches, none at all, like ZERO) but the screen remained intact.
After that second fall, maybe a couple of weeks later, I started to notice a weird color "seeping" and some vertical lines. The screen tarted to look like a painting on a canvas which got splashed with water and the colors started to "fall" and merge with the ones below.
I've been living with my screen like that for like 4 months now and no problem at all, I was thinking about buying a new lcd replacement. But wanyway.... now for the important part.
Problem
________________________________________
Now, after I opened my phone and tried to "connect" the loose cables from the screen (after an impact, it's possible the cables to ge loose), noticed that the screen didn't get better and that problem was not going to disappear. After a failed attempt to repair it, I sealed the phone again and some days passed (like less than 4). Suddenly, I notice weird glitches on the screen and uninstalled CyanogenMod 13 and reverted back to ZenUI, since I though CM 13 was causing the graphic glitches. After restoring ZenUI, I notice the glitches are still present and it's driving me crazy. It only happens on a certain portion of the screen, the top of it is working correctly. Aaaaand, to feed my paranoia, I've seen picture on Google of dead graphics cards and those weird glitches are similar to mine
TL;DR
________________________________________
I am scared, I want the problem to be the screen and not the GPU; if it's the GPU (or CPU), I am screwed. This phone was supposed to be my girl's gift after I got an LG G4. Gonna upload a video later, so you can see the problem. :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
Why don't you submit you Asus at service center ??
I don't think they will ever help me since I rooted my phone and installed CM. Void warranty.

Flash the black splashscreen zip through whichever recovery you use first in case you still have the white asus splash screen indicating your bootloader is unlocked. Try and flash stock rom on your phone and remove root through Supersu app after this and hope they don't check if your bootloader is unlocked as that's what counts. Take it back to the shop. All the best

Actually, I don't have an USA address. ASUS loves USA but not México nor South America. Bad luck for me.
Proof
Here's a proof that this display is acting B-A-D-L-Y.

Hi to all,
A couple of days ago I noticed that when I answered a call the colors of the screen looked bad, and I didn't pay attention to it.
Now my screen has transparent horizontal lines which are pretty visible, kind of like interference you get in computer screens when you take a picture of them.
I would like to mention that I haven't dropped the phone even once.
I'm considering doing a factory resest in hopes that it will solve the problem, but I doubt that it is a software issue.
What do you guys think?
Please advise
Itay
Sounds like a broken screen to me. And definitely like a warrenty case. Restore stock f/w if you have flashed and return it.
Restore the original firmware (if you have flashed the phone) and call the samsung service for the assistance.
the thing is that now I don't see it at all.
It's as if it came and gone.
I disabled my task killer and juice defender, performed a complete titanium backup, in case I want to restore afterwards, and now everything is normal.
It does sound like a hardware issue, but do you think there's a chance it is software related?
I'm asking because I purchased it in europe, and I don't live there, so sending it for repair is something I would rather avoid.
Of course, if it is indeed 100% hardare issue, I have no choice.
That is why I'm asking, to be certain and to see if there are others who experienced this issue.
Your replies are much appreciated
update:
It appeared again -> Did a Factory Reset -> It's still there -> Sending for repair.
Must be a hardware issue.
Thank you for your replies.
I've actually always had slight screen issues with my Galaxy S also. The screen flickers slightly once in a while. I don't know if the radio is actually the cause but it's the kind of thing you might expect from radio interference.
Has anybody else noticed this?

Nope, never seen any flicker. My screen seems to have a defect of it's own though, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to send it in, because I imported mine from the UK while I live in South Africa.
When in the sun or under bright light I can see a two vertical lines near the sides and a horizontal line on dark/black colours and when the screen is off. As if those pixels have a grey/brown tint to them. The line is mostly one pixel thick but in places it is two pixels.
They are almost impossible to see unless under sunlight where they are clearly visible where the screen is black.
Does anyone else see this or know anything about it?
Edit: Apparently it's just the motherboard or something visible through the screen and they all have it, so I'm worrying about nothing...
That's interesting...
It used to come and go, but I think now it's here to stay.
It's really annoying and the screen, while usable, is really not a pleasant sight to look at.
I've attached some photos showing the problem.
With a normal screen I would say that it looks that way because that's what you see when you photograph a screen of an electronic device, but the sad thing is that what you see in the picture is exactly what I'm seeing now.
I did a factory reset, so it's in german now.
I heard some Droid X had a similar problem, but didn't know Galaxy S was having it as well.
In any event, can you confirm that after a factory reset, I no longer have root access?
Just making sure so that they don't give me problems with the warranty.
seem like the phone was dropped, and the screen got damaged
the connectors are lose
double posted again....
Really?
That's very weird...
The only time it was "dropped" was from half a meter , it didn't fall directly but partially sideways, it was with a case, and it landed on its back, not on the screen.
I wouldn't even call that a fall.
Unless, someone in my family dropped it without telling me...
Either way, I think there's no escape but to send it to repair.
If you think it's a problem with the connectors, would you try and give it to some local lab to try and fix it or send it to samsung for replacement?
I faced similar problem.
This problem only occurs when I use the phone in 2g mode.
there are occasions whereby the signal bar for 2g is full and when I place the phone near some conductive surfaces the lines becomes very obvious, to the point of irritating.
nit sure if anyone has such problems too
I have same problems with horizontal lines.
I never paid attention if i am on 2g or 3g when it happens. I will now.
Edit: rooted on jm5
-------------
It seems that my phone too has started to do the same thing since last night.
I have called Samsung and am waiting to hear from them now.
I hope this is a thing covered in the warranty.
I have reverted to the local ROM for India and have deleted everything on my device.
Yet it shows lines flickering like you can see on old computer monitors.
Its not as bad as the ones on the attachment above but it is starting to annoy me.
It usually happens when the screen is completely filled with a single color except black.
Eg. When you pull down the notification tray down.
Also I seem to notice that when the wifi is off, it stops.(I dunno maybe a placebo effect)
aditya_t90 ,
I have sent it to Samsung for repair, and they should tell me in the coming days exactly what the problem is and whether it can be fixed under warranty or not.
I will update as soon as I hear from them.
Until then, try to see if it changes when you hold the phone differently, for example if you grip it more firmly or hold it in another way.

When did you send it in and when did they receive it(if you were not there when they got it).
Also how long has it been without your phone?
The samsung service center is shut in my area today.
I will go to them tomorrow and get this sorted out.
Its not like the phone was cheap or anything.
I actually sent it to my uncle in Germany because it was purchased there.
He went to the store where he bought it and the store owner immediately sent it to samsung and said that probably by this Tuesday or Wednesday (so tomorrow or in 2 days) he will get an answer from them and see what's going on.
aditya_90 ,
Just to let you know that Samsung are sending me a new phone to replace the damaged one.
I sent in my phone for repairs and they replaced the LCD module. The problem is now gone.
I suggest that you should do the same while the warranty still holds since it appears to be the LCD that failed somewhat.
Good morning to all ..
I want to ask if anyone of you has the same problem: when I leave the galaxy nexus in charge in the night (all night) in the morning, when the alarm rings, I can not turn off the alarm because I can not use the phone, because I can not unlock the phone, if I touch the ring in the lock screen, nothing happens, as if the touch screen does not work but if i wait a while(15-30-60 seconds) it will wake up and i can re-use my phone.. and this problem has also occurred at other times... without the phone was in charge..in the afternoon, I could not answer a call arriving(not often).. let me say this thing that perhaps can be decisive, that my cell was 2 times under warranty, the first replacement for faulty screen (ehm...) and the second time because when they replaced the display does not have removed blue film that protects the far side of the screen next the front camera(i get i blue overlay effect on front camera images lol)..than i send it in warranty again.
it may be caused by the rom/kernel? if not, how you recommend to act?
ps: I was wondering also .. if when they replaced the display have replaced only the AMOLED part or also the glass and the multi-touch ... because the glass was intact and the multitouch worked.. is a single body or are separate pieces? Also remember that the phone stank of "liquid crystal" because they were leaked (this was the fault of the display, it was broken..) it might have caused the malfunction of the touch sporadically?
from what ive read sometimes rom's can screw up functions like camera etc, but if there tried and tested not sure why it would be a prob.
i would go down the warranty route personally.

mmmmmmmh...is the last resort .. I would avoid because they put us a month to fix it! this is the third time i would send it in the warranty .... almost makes me want to let them replace it with another device ... I fear them have ruined ...
what is your min mhz set to?
I had a similar problem with my old cappy running CM9. I had to restore it via Odin and start from scratch then it worked and didn't have that issue again. My suggestion would be to go back to 100% stock and then customize it again. It may or may not help but it is worth a shot.
sent from my GSM Galaxy Nexus
I just sent mine into Samsung for repair, due to the same thing happening. It started off that if I pulled the battery I could get it to work, but eventually it got to the point where that woudln't even work. Between this happening and the fact that I returned another one due to the out going audio dropping, I am starting to loose faith in the GNex.

i use 384Mhz (franco kernel first frequengy step) minimium frequency @ ondemand governover...isn't it the stock minimium frequency?
@thephoneguyusa i have tried... but i got the same thing with all stock, flashing factory images got from http://code.google.com/intl/it-IT/android/nexus/images.html ( i don't remember if i've rooted and changed the kernel, but i'm 99% sure that was all stock, maybe i'll give a try, again )
@HitchHiker my gnex crashed once (a good fall) and the display is ****ed .. but the glass and touch were intact ... is very sensitive .. but this is not good ... if I send, this will be the third time that I send it in for service since I bought it in December ... no good...
curiosity: attached the blue-film-front-camera-rendering-blue-effect-lol...
UPDATE:
I didn't use the charger last night and this morning I had the problem in question. But! I went to the bathroom to shower and the various routines gnex morning bringing with me, and I left the bathroom I wanted to use the phone, but! tataaaaan! the screen won't unlock...can humidity cause this problem?
my room is a bit wet because I live near the sea ...
perhaps too much humidity **** circuits of the touch .. or perhaps it is a contributing cause to a real defect of the display....
My screen randomly freezes, with Android still running in the background. It also has multicolored "snow" static-like crap on the screen instead of an image half of the time, especially when unlocking the screen. Happens when the kernel hasn't even finished booting as well. I also get visual artifacts appearing on screen, which would be expected if my GPU was OC'd, but it's not. Tried stock, didn't help, so I know it's a hardware problem.
I suspect it might be the slider ribbon, or the screen itself, but I want to know what it most likely is before trying to order parts and spending the money. If it's being caused by the GPU, I'm just gonna pick up a new part-time job and buy a new phone altogether..
Any ideas?
Same problem, same suspicions. I'm taking mine apart and will advise.
Got it back together... no change. Might just be the GPU.
Sometimes while the screen is glitching, moving the slider gets it to work. I'm thinking the ribbon cable in the slider might be damaged on the inside.
I'm gonna try replacing it since the part is $11 on Ebay.

It's not the kernel. I've tried every gsm kernel available, wiped the boot partition with fastboot, wiped everything, installed stock. Doesn't make any difference. 100% a hardware problem.

I'm wondering if the actual flex cable itself. Since I just derped and sat on my phone and broke the digitizer, I'm just gonna get the whole screen assembly (Since it's only about 5$ cheaper). It could be a while though. I can't order it till next tuesday.
I used to have similar problems on my g2 until I replaced the flex cable. But then again, the image seems to freeze and occasionally glitch, so I'm wondering if there's a faulty solder connection somewhere since shaking/beating/banging on the phone seems to also fix it sometimes.
I managed to dig up four old threads where multiple people had the exact same problems as me, replaced the flex cable, then had zero issues afterwards.
I was just reading them an hour ago. 100% sure the cable is the problem for my phone.
Now it's just a waiting game, first waiting until I have some cash, then waiting for the e-cheque to clear, then the shipment.. I'm gonna have to wait at least a month unless somebody goes and ships one to my door instantly.. Which obviously ain't gonna happen as I'm not a developer and just someone who helps ppl with their phones.
I'm gonna save up and buy a new phone, then give this one to my 11 year old niece after it's repaired. By the time I have enough cash for one of those new HTC models, the cable should be here.

Well if you do it before me, please let me know!! And I'll be sure to report back! I'll order the screen assembly next tuesday.

Sorry to resurrect this...
Sorry to resurrect this out of the blue, but I am also having a similar problem.
I have not rooted my R800at, but noticed first that the screen would sometimes stretch or skew into an absurdly distorted shape, only to snap back to normal after unlocking the screen.
Then, a few days ago, I also started to get this colorized snow pattern on my screen. I was wondering if you managed to fix your phone by ordering the cable? Also, not to sound too much like a pathetic n00b, is there a .doc somewhere (Or PDF) showing how to disassemble the phone to replace the cable, if that indeed fixed the problem?
I am going to see if AT&T will warranty the phone (Less than a year old, more than 30 days, not more than 90) but I am unsure if it is going to cost me an arm and a leg to do so.

The phone comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty. Since you aren't rooted or unlocked, send it in for repair. If you open up the phone to fix the cable yourself you'll end voiding the warranty permanently. If something else breaks later down the road that's harder to fix, you're gonna need it.

hey everyone well after reach tru this thread i think my flex cable is the problem as well
a while back when i unlock the fone the screen just use to be all jumpy (but i dont think dat was related to the flec cable problem cuz after changing wallpaper it stopped)
but like ah few weeks after i changed my rom, if i didn't slide out my gampad my phone wouldn't unlock, sometimes when i turn it off(the phone vibrates as usual but the screen nevr comes on) and then now like its completely gone i'm getting nothing from the screen anymore
so i'm guessing its the flex cable
and i think thats the reason for my front camera to stop wrking as well
FIX!

That's correct. You all guys need to replace the ribbon cable/flex cable and the issue will be gone.
In case anyone else suffers the same symptoms - a couple of weeks ago, my G3 started running really slowly (and possibly a bit hotter).
Booting from cold seemed to take a long time and the ui starred freezing temporarily on a regular basis.
I was waiting for an ota marshmallow update and hoped that would fix whatever was making it go slow.
I was wrong.
The other night, I was using it and the screen went bright blue and the phone then started boot looping. Sometimes it only got as far as the LG logo and other times it for all the way to the lock screen (on a couple of occasions I could get to the desktop and use the phone 'normally'). Every time it ended up blue screening and then rebooting.
Ultimately, it was dead and despite managing a full wipe, nothing fixed it.
As a phone, when it worked it was ok but cracking screen, poor call quality (only realised that when I got a different phone) and general slow downs (possibly related to overheating (and I could only infrequently increase screen brightness to full because of the warning about overheating) means that I think this phone has been fair rather than excellent.
Its motherboard problem only way to fix it is replace it with new one
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
That's what I thought. Phone is well over a year old, so just got a different one.
Good feedback for anyone who has similar symptoms.
I have the same problem, went to the LG service center in my country
and yes they said that I had to replace the motherboard, because the IC power is broken
the cost is around $160, 1/3 the phone price when I bought it mid 2014
I have only used my phone for only 1.5 years and very disappointed with the quality of G3 phone
same **** happened to me, they replaced the motherboard, luckily it was still under warranty.
Don't update its motherboard problem
Same here blue screen came and phone is dead. Gone to lg service center and they told to replace the motherboard yesterday.
The whole phone now only cost 1000AED and they are telling me that motherboard replacement is gonna cost me 950AED .what the heck, better to buy a new phone. Atleast i will get one yeAr warranty new phone for same cost hehe...
The updation of lg g3 software is the main reason for this, so dont update the phone to new version of android pls.
Sorry to unbury such an older thread.
I just got a new (sic) LG G3 D855. A few minutes after the official LG updates were installed, the screen began flickering, with intermediate blue screens, and consecutive reboots. After a BSOD the screen went dark, and the phone seemd to be powered off. I am not sure about this, but I could not power it on again for approx. 20 minutes. Then it was starting again, but I feel very uncomfortable about it and plan to ask for a replacement, since I have full warranty.
Before I return it:
How to I find out the manufacturing year of the motherboard and/or if there is a newer revision or something? Is it printed on the motherboard or readable via an app (e.g. CPU-Z or similar - if I can start it at all)?
Any help in this regard is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Wishing you all a great year 2020!

I haven't been offered the update yet. But I think I will wait until I find out whether this is a common issue.
Are other people having serious problems with UI 5.1?

EDIT: After seeing your comment in another thread, I can 100% confirm that this is a hardware problem.
Internal Screen Issue, Sound Problem, Getting Lags when on main screen, all these are signs of main screen failure. Send it to sammy, they'll replace the main screen along with all hardware attached to it.
--------
Unfortunately this is leaning more onto hardware problem, experiencing it after the update probably is just coincidence.

I sent it to service. It is hardware problem, they ll repair it under guarantee.
Finally after 3 days I left phone to Sammy service I have it today.
It was hardware problem. Changed interior screen, motherboard, batteries.

I want to say this...when I bought my phone was new. From the first time I open interior screen I heard a noise like skrats when the screen was opened totally. Now there is no such sound.

3 days today no strange noise opening interior screen. I had this noise with the previous screen from day one. From the first time I opened the screen.
I had two fold. 1 green and 1 black. I sold black. I heard that noise only from green fold. I hold it because I wanted the green color.
