Samsung's Good Lock - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and

Pros: You can almost get it looking like stock android (which is why i'm keeping it), Notification layout is nice.
Cons: Battery dies faster, Widgets/Apps Tray layouts are useless for me. Recent apps layout is worse.
http://imgur.com/a/WpoXB

Tried it......for 5 minutes i prefer being able to use samsung themes like 'blue and black AMOLED' theme. Good Lock does not have a black option in routine options

Hmm . I like it more. Haven't had any battery is issues yet.

Only issue i encountered is it doesnt easily explain Uninstall.
1. You can just drag drop the Icon from the AD to uninstall and
2. You cannot find the app in Applications to Uninstall
3. You have to go to settings and uninstall from there.
4. Once you uninstall, remember to Restart your device as soon as possible.
5. If not restarted, your power button would stop working and the only way to get it back is by a Hard Reboot (Power + Volume Down).
Hope this helps people looking in to this.
Other than that, had no Battery Drain Issues and it worked fluidly. Did find the "Ignore Repetitive Notification" that I dismiss without looking in messages Annoying and sadly, if by mistake I did say so for specific ones (Work Email and Whatsapp), it stopped showing the message notification all together.

You don't have "System UI" With the Good Lock Icon as high drainage in your battery stats?

Sorry, forgot the * on that. It was mostly visual. Coming from the S6e, the S7e is substantially better due to the much bigger battery, but with a Wireless charger at work, didn't see "major" drain issues.
Although, when the Power Button stopped working yesterday, I almost called Tmo and thought of returning before the Hardboot fix, as this is a System UI App.
Just wondering, did you have AOD on? I did have that off. Doubt it would make a difference, but the Good Lock is a Lock Screen, and since my Nexus 1 days, I remember them always being a Drain.

They just posted a new version and they took care of most of original people complaints, the only thing missing for me right now is the Quick Connect feature that it seems that the only way to get access to it is via Original Notification shade. If the fix this, for me will be a keeper, for sure, I've been keeping it expecting for an update and now I can say that they are 90% where they should be with this.
In general, a very good update.

Yes I do, not all the time but once in a while, very handy, easy and quick way to connect my devices to my Samsung 4K Smart TV. Best of all, with that, I can see the TV content on my Phone.

I use this as well for my Samsung 4K TV! I actually find myself using it more and more lately. I've run around the house a lot while watching a program and being able to send it to my phone to view while I'm in another room is great! I recently was watching a friend playing a game on his TV, I did a quick connect while I was sitting on his patio with another friend, and was able to keep up with the story-line while on his patio. What's weird is that I didn't get any lag using quick connect but when I tried a simple screen mirror i got lag as well as quality downgrade that was very noticeable.

This is the only problem I've been having so far with Good Lock. That and the horrible app switcher..

For me I would like them to add a private mode toggle.

That and sync!

I want to be able to actually choose black, and customize more options such as the lockscreen and recents. I don't like the new recents but I can't leave good lock and give up the stock android icons and drawer

I can't find the app in the app drawer. I visited the Samsung Galaxy Apps store and it said the app is installed. When I clicked on the Good Luck app, the only option is to update the app. Can someone plz help?
Edit: NM. Figured it out.

It comes preinstalled on Tmo I believe (or at least it installed itself after a while). I am having issues installing the latest version of Good Lock. Phone keeps restarting and reverting back to stock systemui. RIP

That's weird. I just updated to the latest version and it's been really smooth with no issues that was there with the previous releases. Maybe try the typical uninstall reboot reinstall? Or if you disabled some apps that could be causing some instability.

Yeah, I installed the first version of Good Lock and it was fine. Uninstalled it shortly after until the next update.
There is no way to uninstall the app from the Galaxy Apps store; the only option is to update it. My Apps does not show Good Lock as installed. I've tried clearing cache, re-enabling all my disabled apps, rebooting several times without much success. I am not the only apparently as several others are having the issue and posting about it on reddit. Hopefully this can be fixed with an update. Don't really want to factory reset to get Good Lock working.

I have no issues uninstalling from my device. I just go to the app drawer tap on the icon and it gives me the option to uninstall. I see what you mean by not being able to delete from Galaxy Apps though

LG OSP (On Screen Phone) on the Nitro

Soooo......
Has anybody tried this little nifty feature LG has given us? I think it's a neat gem that LG has included on their phones, allowing us to control our phones on the PC via wireless, bluetooth, or usb connections. As you can see in the screenshot, it looks exactly as though you are on your phone, except you control it using the mouse and type using a physical keyboard. This way, you can leave the phone charged somewhere away from the pc, and yet you still can do things on the phone when necessary, or reply text messages or browse through files.
I'm sure there's many more things we can do with this, I just have to research into them Let me know if any of you have been playing around with it.

Something interesting, I can use the feature to control the phone to take pictures remotely. Unfortunately, you cannot see what you are taking a picture off until you actually click on the trigger an a sample is shown to you (first screenshot). Apparently, it doesn't support moving images (like live picture taking, or video recording, or playing videos), but at least for now, you can use it as a remote trigger
And just to show you guys some more screenshots, here it is on the browser.
Oh and btw, the image doesn't do justice to the size of the on screen feature. Of course it is being compressed and resized since it's uploaded here. To give you some sense on how big it is, here is a screenshot of my whole screen (1920x1200) with the program running somewhere in the middle of the screen.
Very interesting. I've never seen that feature on any youtube review, or anything about the Nitro on the net.
The screenshot in your first post, is that how your phone looks like exactly? Is that Go Launcher with ICS theme? What folder app are you using? Thanks!

You can download the pc software here
(If link is still dead, download it from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ac1a5bj1tg25d2j )
The website is this: http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/LG-P930.jsp under resources, look for On-Screen phone under Downloads. (Apparently, LG has undergone a site reconstruction and in the process removed the link to OSP, so unless they decided to put it back on the site, you will no longer see it there)
Once installed, the program will guide you on how to get it working, but basically, on the phone, you want to go to Setting > Connectivity > On-Screen Phone Settings.
Enable On-Screen Phone and set your password.
This program seems to be a bit finicky at times, and you can lose connection to it and not be able to connect at all for more than a few minutes. I'm sure there will be updates in the future.
aquiariuz,
Your link isn't working for me and I can't find the OSP stuff on the LG website at all. Any other info?
OSP
Anyone using this noticed if it eats up ram or slows down your phone? I am hesitant to try it out.
It looks like LG has pulled the download from their site since you posted the original link. I can't find it anywhere.
I even chatted with an LG rep earlier and they couldn't provide it. Actually, the idiot thought I was asking about a phone update and kept telling me their wasn't an update for the Nitro at this time.
Aquariuz... can you provide the file here?
Just downloaded from this link: LG_OSP2.0_Setup_2.0.05.20111012.exe
22.4mb file
link
Try this csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/MOBILESYNC/GO/QOSP.2.0.08.20120130/LGOnScreenPhone/AutoRun/LGOSP_Setup.exe
Sorry for the late reply guys. Got home really late from work tonight.
So it seems right after I posted the thread, LG decided to revamp their site and changed the whole structure and layout of it. I'm guessing they probably had temporarily removed it from the site and has yet to re-add it back. I don't believe something is wrong with the application itself since actually On Screen Phone software has been around for a while and available on almost all LG phones.
Anyways, since the link is now down, please use the following link, I've uploaded the copy I downloaded:

Mdkrush, like i've mentioned, this is something you use when you do not want to be handling your phone, like when it is charging somewhere across the room, or you'd rather type your sms/IMs using a physical keyboard rather than the touch key, etc. Obviously it will eat up Ram and slows down the phone a bit, that is just normal when you are technically making the phone stream itself onto your computer monitor.
Thanks for the links guys. And thanks for updating Aquariuz. However, I'm not able to get it to detect my phone.
Also, does the phone have to remain unlocked? Or can I lock the phone to avoid having the display drain the battery?
edit: I got it working and learned the hard way that the program is simply a display for the phone. Unfortunately you cannot lock your phone and still use it on the computer. It only shows EXACTLY what your phone is doing. Anyone know of a way around this?
I ask because when I'm working in the field I sometimes use the SlingPlayer app while having the phone on a signal booster. Even with the phone hooked up to a charger it still drains faster than the charger can keep up. I guess it's because of the HD display on this phone? Or maybe there's a problem with the battery/phone?

Do you mean having the phone's screen off while using OSP on the computer? Unfortunately it won't work that way Allstar. When you unlock the phone in OSP, it also awakens the phone. Like u said, it shows exactly what your phone is doing.
My only suggestion is having the brightness on the lowest to conserve energy. It will not affect the brightness on your computer though.
I've thought the same thing about turning the brightness all the way down. Unfortunately the screen still Burns a lot of power.
I wish there was a way to keep apps running and turn the display off.

[Q] Google Now Question with cards

Running MIUI 4.1 and loving it (huge props to them), but toying with google now a few day's and really liking it, I did something and now it's not working correctly and I can't find much help. I constantly had my local weather in my notification as well as local restaurants, then when I had the weather card up I swiped (not sure left or right) but now nothing is in my notification list anymore.
I can hold search, speak local weather zip, hold speak sports teams and get info, but nothing in the way of the top bar with the flower and the card info, just the little box of info.
I checked and web history is enabled, location services is enabled, I need to find that "opt in" page I think to reset it up.
Any help is appreciated.

Just checking, do we really think it will just come back. Reading more (there is not a lot out there yet) but reading more I see one CNET post that talks about the cards saying "By default, it always has a card showing you the weather forecast for your area. " but I'm now at 3 day's and don't even have the weather. I have searched local weather, new your Giants probably 30 times a day trying to get something to stick, but the weather was always at least in the dropdown. The other thing I notice is that home page with the flower is gone.
As I said, I remember opting in, and did something to re-show that screen and since I thought I was done said No, but just can't find that opt-in or yes activate page. Location history is in, web history, etc. I just need that page shown in this image

HA! Got it! For all those that read this and had the same issue and my last message was 'if it was an app' so I stopped. Went to the market, and 'google search' screenshots all had that top image with the cards as the example. I uninstalled it, re-installed it and went through the tutorial, opt-ed in and my teams, weather all there perfect!
Tnx again.
do you guys belive that google now sucks battery because its always checking your location and always updating card?

Does it? I am using it with default settings so far but I know you can tweak how often it checks (like the weather you can say just the morning, evening, etc.). I am also wondering what 'battery use' shows. Mine has been plugged in so I can't verify what's really used, but back in the day spare parts was the thing, for you guys with bad performance, what does the battery show?
I am still new to MIUI rom's and see a battery calibrate, does that do anything?
Google Now icon gone after yesterdays update.
After the update for Google yesterday, the icon I was using for Google Now just vanished. As well, my cards got all messed up. I really like Google now and depend on it. I want the Google Now Icon back where it was. Any idea how to get it back. Google Search always pulls up a search. I just want to pull up my friendly little cards.
Suggestions?

I lost mine on an update, my fix was to goto the accounts (I have a few) and removed my primary one. Rebooted the phone (may not be necessary), then re-added that account, and when I hit the search icon was welcomed with the opt in page again.
google now
I've been using JB lately and when I used ICS I saw lately this google now thing. NOw that I use JB I loved it. It is really nice (apart of being tracked from google every where you go lol) it is ncie and help you every time I was at work and I was going to school cuz it showed me the traffic. Alos liked when I was in VA the other day I got off from a meeting and all I wanted was a beer and guess what? google gave me a list of bars right at unlocking my phone lol. but I found that it was draining my battery very fast!!!
if you wanna disable it you can disable all those cards and cancel all the syncing. That improves your battery up to 30% wow crazy!
or if you do not want to see it at all you can disable the services or uninstall everything about some google services using this app called System tuner. You can also use Android Tweak
Be careful using them though, if you dont know what are you doing you can create some "force close" issues and misfunctions on some apps. so be careful
hit the thanks button and let me know what you think

See if this works for your battery drain issues.

Here is the link to what exactly worked for many of us over in the S7E forum. We all had the same exact battery issues you guys are describing. Remember that the biggest thing is to turn off "all background reporting".

Has anyone tried this?
iread it everywhere "stop background reporting"...
but no instructions howto do it????
I tried it. So far, I see the huge improvement in battery. The phone seems to sleep now. I think the biggest thing for me was starting fresh. I wrote down all the programs I had and manually started from scratch, instead of restoring my backup (From a Nexus 6p.) Also, when I disabled programs, I only disabled the ATT stuff. I actually left all the Samsung stuff in, unless there was a duplicate Google app (Like Clock, Calendar etc.) I'll give it a couple days, but so far it's been a huge improvement for me.
I have heard that you don't have to factory reset to turn off the reporting. I recall someone mentioning it under the Google and Samsung settings, but I wasn't able to find it.

I agree with most of the points in OP's link.
I personally do not like the idea to disable cool features that sells the phone, like the Always On feature for instance. If I have to disable the whole thing I might as well just go back to iPhone 6 plus.
- Disabling packages for me drains battery more unfortunately, I tested this twice. Now I just disabled apps. Battery life is better this way.
- This helps tremendously in my case is to not use PUSH for email. I have 5 active accounts, only one uses PUSH, the others use Fetch every 15/30 mins. My favorite email app is CloudMagic, I like them for their cleanest UI, unfortunately they don't support Fetch, so I went back to Samsung Email (I'm not a big fan of Type App either)

Those slick bastards either changed it or moved it. It is exactly right there in that menu on the S7E.
There are other areas within the settings that also have options to turn usage statistics off. Both Google and Samsung has background reporting. I don't know my way around the Note menu since I don't have the phone so the only way I know to opt out is to do a factory reset and do it during the device set up.

That menu isn't on the Verizon note7. Sadly they felt it necessary to mess with the settings menu.

It's the Android system and os drain bug that started with MM.
The things listed in that thread won't fix it.
No verified way to fix it as of yet.

Multiple people including myself had Android System usage go down to a decent percentage after following these steps. Some of us were around 50% Android usage and that dropped down to around 10-15%.
Also not using Google Now with location set to on helps a lot with Android System usage.

What packages you disabled caused battery drain? I'm also using CloudMagic. Guess I better look into it.

I just reset the network connections as described in the video, cleared the cache with a cache cleaning app, and reboot the phone.
So far, battery drain issue has improved.

Edit: fingerprint unlock does not work.. did some research and seems to be a common issue with goodlock finger print unlock..
updated yesterday to marshmallow OTA.. this morning I installed goodlock and it seems incompatible if using finger print lock.. went into recovery and cleared cache and restarted.. it cleared goodlock so i changed to no lockscreen did a reinstall.. after restart it was fine.. I then reactivated my fingerprint lock.. locked the phone and Goodlock crashed on wake and forced a restart.. upon restart goodlock was no longer active... is this a known issue? If not I do hope that Samsung can coordinate a fix

My multi-window tray also seems to pop up whenever I get a notification from a compatible app (e.g Gmail or Instagram.)

If it crashed out.. there will not be an "uninstall updates" option the Ui rejects the file under a crash and reverts back to before the update.. all you need to do is erase the download if you choose not to use

Ever since the ota marshmallow, I'm getting constant Google play Services has stopped errors, i think it could be related to Good lock. Anyone else have this? Hate to lose mm ui updates through good lock....
Recent Menu
I don't remember very well because i clicked it unintentionally, but is there a way to change the recent menu appeareance? I have now just the names of the apps, but i think there was another option like the android stock one
BTW I don't know why, but the app doesn't appear in the Galaxy Apps Store and i have Android 6.0.1
Running version 24.0.12

Good Lock is a System UI update that the newer phones like the S7 and Note 7 got. It won't be in the app stores. Not really sure how the apk was acquired by the people who posted it.

Edit: Just downloaded and installed it on my AT&T Galaxy Note 4 running 6.0.1 EPH5 (which i have updated via recovery, because i had no access to OTA on my location). It locks good as they name it, (But i was thinking of a thing "theme" like which is on galaxy S6)
@Shanghai.Knight: So why do i install the good lock and if i do? Then do i install it on my AT&T Note 4, if i have updated it with the help of recovery not OTA?
I don't have AT&T services in my location and couldn't update via OTA.

I'm not sure I understand your question fully, but let me try to answer. Good Lock is not an app that is to be installed via OTA or Recovery. It is a Samsung app that you can install like most other apps. Download it and install it. It will ask you to allow untrusted sources to install. Don't worry, this is a Samsung app. You can select only allow untrusted sources for this app only...
Good Lock provided the marshmallow interface enhancements that Google put into marshmallow. This was given to newer phones Samsung made, but Samsung choose to leave it out of older phones... . All it is is some eye candy and new ways of interacting with the phone. You can install it, and if you do not like it, go into the app, select options, then uninstall. No flashing required.
Thanks for this.. decided to give it a shot and definitely worth the usage for me... flashlight back on the notification bar is enough for me to keep using it!
edit: haven't had that since s3

That, the data toggle (which has also been absent for a while), and the ability to play with the color of the notification tray are all it took for me to overlook the fact that I can't use my fingerprint lockscreen.
...Though I am hoping for that to get fixed at some point.

Question Issues Keeping Background Apps Running

Anyone else having issues with keeping apps running in the background? I have a couple apps (one for doorbell camera and one for outdoor security cameras) that will only stay active for a short time and provide notifications on my phone when motion was detected. I can open one of the apps after not getting any notifications for a long period and then I will get all the notifications that never came through.
I have done all the normal steps of making sure the battery optimization was turned off for these apps and turning off all data restrictions with no luck. I had several go around with TCL support and exhausted their possible solutions. The same doorbell app worked fine on my old Pixel so I am pretty sure it isn't the apps.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to XDA
Power management destroyer of worlds
Developer options>standby apps
All buckets should show as active otherwise power management is enabled!
You can't change that setting here. If you can change a bucket state and get it to take (close Developer options/reopen) then again power management has been enabled.

One method I think is working without upgrading to Android 12 is to disable the "Smart Manager" app via adb
You can download sdk platform-tools and run command
adb shell
pm disable-user com.tct.onetouchbooster
You do lose out on accessing some battery options, though, since it's integrated into the app, but I don't mind it. Hope it helps
I have an unlocked T810S that I'm using here in the USA with Cricket Wireless (an AT&T MVNO). My phone has Android 11, and the notification issues are driving me crazy. I don't yet see any updates for Android 12, so who knows when I can get that.
I saw what @rickywangca did, and did something similar. From my Linux box:
Code:
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.tct.onetouchbooster
And that uninstalled the "Smart Manager" application. I'm happy to have that thing gone, but I still have notification issues that I can't figure out.
For the apps in question, I added them to do "do not optimize" battery list, but that didn't seem to help. One app is configured to give me a daily notification, but I almost never receive it. I actually got the notification one day and was surprised.
Any other tips or ideas on dealing with the notification issue? Do I need to clear something else out related to the onetouchbooster "Smart Manager"?

Is global power management active?
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise global power management is active. It will cause erratic behaviors. It's not needed or desirable, it never did work well. It can not be disable here though.
Example: how its controls appear on a Samsung N10+ in Device Care, battery, it's usually a little buried but it's there. You'll find something similar to this. It's part of the core Android system.
These settings will cause trouble...

This T810S TCL 20 Pro 5G is an awesome phone, but the lack of notifications drives me crazy.
I looked at my Developer Options, trying to see something similar to what you have on that Samsung, and I see these, which appear to be inactive.
"Adaptive notification priority"
"Adaptive notification ranking"
But when I go to my Inactive Apps list, I see a variety of different "App standby state" values. It appears that I can change some of them here to have the different values of:
"ACTIVE", "WORKING_SET", "FREQUENT", "RARE", "RESTRICTED".
Which value should I choose if I want the app to stay active and send me notifications?
Here's a screen grab of what I see:
Oh how badly I just want to receive notifications from my applications, to make my phone fully functional. I get notifications from certain apps like gmail, telegram and facebook, but not from apps that I want like the LG ThinQ app, and Lightning Pro.

In general...
Power management with the bucket states and all of that is a native Android service. Part of battery management. You can't disable in Developer options but you can tell if it's active there. You can use it to verify that you have disabled though.
Samsung modifies their UI heavily. The settings they use may be similar to other brands, Pixels being the "purest" version of Android. In Pixels the controls for that are in battery care in settings, I think (I never owned a Pixel). Terms like Adaptive battery or Battery saver may be the ones thst switch it on/off. Verity it then with the Standby Apps status.
There is a way to set exceptions to Adaptive battery and that may work too. I never used it or if I did it failed to work properly in one way or another... it's been years. I ended up turning the whole mess off and using other methods to increase my SOT.
The best way to learn how your Android works is to play with it. Go through all the settings and play with them when you have time. Like a game, it's sort of fun. Do Google searches for specific issues; it doesn't have to be that specific model or even brand. Androids are similar across Android flavors and OS versions to a greater or lesser extent. Learn by reading about them. That's all I do and eventually track down the issue. The more you do this, the better and faster you get at it. Find/get the tools you need to better understand what's happening like a logging firewall, battery trackers etc.
I see you have social media and sales apps installed. I never do this. If I need to access them I login to them through Brave browser only.
They tend to consume excessive battery and are multi vector security threats*. They can also cause problems by changing hidden user settings which could have global consequences. You are what you load. At the very least not having any trashware makes troubleshooting easier and yields a better running Android. Disabling the questionable app when not in use is another option I sometimes use if I really need it.
*Just because it's on Playstore doesn't mean it's safe. Any app that updates outside of Playstore could download a trojan payload to what appeared to be a safe app. Any app that has internet access is a potential security threat. I firewall block all that don't absolutely need it and don't update any unless there's a good reason to.
