Optimal Snapchat configuration? - Amazon Fire Phone

Besides getting a new phone lol!
I'm currently running CM11 by ggow (who is a genuine Android god! Awesome work! You rock!) and to be honest it's the most stable experience I have EVER had with CM across tens of devices I've used it for.
However recently I've had to sell quite a few of my devices to help pay bills during a career transition. Now the Fire Phone has became my daily driver solely because of how cheap the hardware is (resell value isn't that high, it has fantastic hardware, plus I got mine for free when I used to work for at&t), and although CM11 is so damn stable with phenomenal battery life; I have began to notice how often I use apps that utilize the stock camera... Like Snapchat & depositing checks through my bank app.
I have a backup of my rooted 3.5.1 installation, but before I go back I just had a few questions that maybe someone else here has ran into or has had experience with.
What's the most optimal way of running snapchat to your experience?
Should I upgrade my Fire OS or keep it at 3.5.1? I want permanent root, and I plan on tweaking it w/ xposed to manipulate the interface to be as close to a stock Android/AOSP experience as possible. However it is quite outdated. Is battery life better on newer releases? Is permanent root possible on newer releases? Or is 3.5.1 the best version to stay on for tweaking/flashaholic purposes? Would restoring my 3.5.1 backup break my Safestrap recovery at all?
Do Google Play Services break all the time still for those of you using Fire OS?
I've read many threads and different boards/reddit trying to find answers and what other users are doing, but I wanted to get a little dialog going about this and maybe hear from users with experiences.

Unfortunately, no custom ROM for the Fire Phone can use those apps (i.e. snapchat, some scanner apps). The problem is not the ROM itself, there is no source code available for the custom HAL(Heuristic ALgorithmic), so the cause for all those apps not working properly is located "deeper". You may have to go back to stock Fire OS. Sorry. You should have Fire OS 4.6.6 for best experience.

Rooted and looking at Custom ROMs (Possibly Jellybean)

UPDATED:
As of right now I still have yet to add a custom rom. I was wondering since a little bit of time passed and priorities have changes slightly, which current rom (running ICS or JB for Kindle Fire) is the fastest (or smoothest running) while maintaining a decent battery life.
Current Wish List:
- ICS or JB (I have JB on my Razr M so I don't necessarily need it. Whichever performs best with the below wish list works for me.)
- Maintains closest to stock battery life
- No problems playing Netflix or the like (I understand the Amazon Instant Video app won't work)
- Smooth and fast. (Doesn't need to be the fastest as battery life will win out on this for me)
When I choose one to finally use, are there good step by step guides I can follow for installing a custom rom? Rooting couldn't have been simpler, but I'm aware that installing a custom rom is a little more work.
ORIGINAL:
So I rooted my Fire a couple months ago now and am happy I did so. However I have grown more interested in possibly installing a custom ROM and noticed that the options are plentiful. I have bookmarked plenty of possibilities including CM7 and gedeROM. But I have been increasingly interested in possibly upgrading to a Jellybean ROM. Being somewhat uninformed as to what it is that I am looking for exactly here are some of the things that I would like if possible in a Custom Rom and maybe someone can direct me as to which one may work the best for my needs:
- Stability. I don't know if there is a pretty stable Jellybean ROM currently. But things like being able to rotate the screen and just general Android functions present.
- No charging problems. (For some reason my stock Fire cord no longer charges my Kindle.. yet it still charges my cellphone. Now using a blackberry playbook charger for the Fire that works great and is considerably longer than the stock Fire cord.)
- No problems playing Netflix. Video and entertainment are top priorities.
- Possibly a deal breaker. Would really like to be able to play Amazon Prime videos. I'm able to play them rooted through the use of RootKeeper currently, but have my doubts if RootKeeper would work as it does now, with a custom rom.
- Would love to be able to use Photoshop Touch, but from what I have read this probably isn't possible with a Kindle Fire
- I realize battery life may not be what it is right now, but I would like a semi-decent battery life if at all possible.
There may be some other things I'd like that I can't think of right now but those are some of the ones that I have kept in my mind. I may not even really need Jellybean and there may be an option that makes more sense for me right now, but it would just be nice to be running on the most updated Android version and wouldn't mind some of it's features like Chrome. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just shopping around!
No prime on anything but modaco using ota root keeper TWA_priv's cm10 is the most frequently updated , video all good, charging good, stable highly...you won't be disappointed...

Oh that sounds great! Gonna check it out! I didn't think it was possible to keep Prime on any of the custom roms. But TWA_priv's CM10 sounds pretty nice thanks so much! Is there any kind of workaround for Prime? Like, going to the Prime website on the browser?

I had a similar question and just reread my own thread and someone had mentioned dual booting. Is this something that is easy and viable? Or is it something more for the more advanced users?
Dual booting is advanced.
Dual-booting meaning able to run Amazon's native rom as well as a custom rom? If that was possible and allowed me to keep access to the Amazon Instant Video app, then I would go for it.

this is a good rom.. download change to galaxy.zip.. and gapps.. this allows apps that a galaxy nexus would have..(so chrome) awesome and works on my KF
The Linaro one suggested above is horrible had so many problems with it. I love Jandycane
Jelly Bean Tablet Edition aka Project Jandycane
I use a older version of dolphin browser and a older version of flash on TWA_s latest ROM and I can go on the website and watch prime videos

But jandycae hasn't been updated in a month and a half and the Linaro one (twa_s is probly the most stable and updated one there is besides hash codes of course(;
Opinions vary, I guess. I've had nothing but good experience with twa_priv's CM10/SGT7/Linaro ROM.

From what I read, twa_priv's was one of the simplest, cleanest, best working roms out there. It was the main rom I was/am considering.

[Q] Why no ROMs are appearing?

Hi,
I have little knowledge of android and Roms development, but I understand it was very difficult to develop for aftv given amazon restrictions.
Now, given the accomplishments in unlocking the boot loader, what prevents from a bunch of new Roms to appear? I live outside the us, so amazon ROM is quite useless, very slow, prevents me from having a decent UI (I know I could use xposed modules, but I don't think they solve the issue of the system being quite overloaded by useless stuff).
I was wondering why don't we get at least some clean aosp images to play with. TechVendetta is making a very nice experiment with cm12 on lollipop, but he also runs in the issues of this system being quite new. Can't we get anything based on 4.4.4? That's mature and stable now I guess. Is the issue just in having a decent TV UI?
Sorry, I know I could start studying and do this myself, I am not blaming anybody, just trying to understand better
Thanks!
i agree with you. TV UI is nice, but also having a clean decent 4.4.4 rom or even 4.2.2 would be very helpfull.
Quite a lot launcher can be controlled (after setting up with mice) via remote. I'm also in the beginning of ripping useless Amazon Stuff off my aftv (do a backup of recent System Apk's via titanbackup and then afterwards uninstall them). If we might get a Clean 4.4.4 than even a cool launcher might be usefull

So if there are any other dev's outside, or someone knew one he might ask them in jump on AFTV

P600 stuck on 4.4.2 - need upgrade for speed and reliability

I have an Australian version (XSA) of the Note 10.1 sm-p600 which was only ever upgraded to 4.4.2 (latest official release).
I find the performance sluggish when playing games (eg Clash Royale) and want to see if a new ROM will improve the speed but want minimal fuss. I would like to know people's suggestions of which ROM to use that will give me a faster but still stable experience.
Is the official 5.1.1 any good? Do I need to go custom? I want to avoid having to do complicated installs as well if possible.
I mostly play games and watch YouTube on it and maybe some sports apps to get scores. Nothing that really requires root (and some of the sports apps don't like root).
Thanks in advance.
Just checked my build and it looks like it is already on 5.1.1 - I must have updated it last year and forgotten.
Still not happy with the load times of Clash Royale, any other suggestions about making the tablet run faster? It seems to still have a decent processor and RAM despite being a few years old.
Well, you're running 5.1.1 right? Probably the only thing left is to go to Development section and install Prime Kernel V6, it's the last version for lollipop touchwiz. That one has a couple of tweaks to improve the standard performance offered by stock/factory software. Make sure to backup everything, and then flash the zip. Updating kernel has no need to wipe or reformat anything so no data is lost, but do it just in case.
To get more juice out, you'd have to install custom ROMs, like LiquidDeath from the Original Development section, that has a couple of new stuff like the updated GPU driver ported from marshmallow touchwiz apparently, and from my subjective view, performance is better along with increased battery life.
I don't do much gaming, but on stock 5.1.1 with stock kernel I usually get around 7 hours screen on time browsing the web, but with LD I can go around 10 to 11 hours easy with the same usage.
Thanks. I'll check out the kernel first.
Would you suggest LiquidDeath or LineageOS?
Sorry for the late reply, lol. I assume you've been running touchwizz/stock Samsung lollipop this while, but using that custom kernel I've mentioned? How was the experience? If that works fine with you, I believe there's no need for custom ROMs.
I test and run random ROMs many times, liking to flash stuff and all. If you want to try out the waters, the most rock-solid, no-issues release so far is probably the last release of LiquidDeath, mostly because it has less crud, and therefore fewer potential to go wrong. Lineage is good too, but I prefer keeping it simple.

Rooting this phone, what's the point?

As the title asks, whats the point of rooting this phone? It doesn't help that unlocking bootloader isn't free, it doesn't have a lot of roms/kernels for it either? And in a performance stand point, would those kernels/roms improve performance even? Hence this is on stock android, youd automatically assume its optimisation would be A+, tho, not for this phone in terms of ram management, but what about CPU and GOU performance? Ive asked on kernel posts and none have answered, leading me wondering, and I'm obviously no pro and just want to really know what's going on with "improved gpu effeciency" sort of updates to kernels, like, i get what it means, but in what way? Does if give more fps to games or something? . Granted that rooting gives you more freedom to do anything, but theres a big draw regarding to privacy, which is no problem to me, of course, but some apps like bank apps disable access to rooted devices, does exposed work for pie or is it still in development?
Tldr
All I'm asking is it worthit?
Do roms improve performance?
Do the kernels improve performance regarding games and such?(on my good ol phone the zenfone 2 it did, quite a lot)
Is exposed fully working for pie?
I've not bothered to unlock this phone. I will, however, say that even if the custom roms only have comparable performance, it would be worth it just to be rid of the Evenwell task killer Nokia allowed to be bundled into the stock rom, as long as the custom roms are problem free.
I just unlocked cuz it's cool to have root, themes etc. Regarding roms look here
Plenty of development for treble enabled devises.
Downside I guess is when u got twrp installed one will no longer recieve system updates untill one installs custom rim.
You right, root gives you more freedom that stock on any phone ever made will never provide, sadly.
Sent from my Nokia 6.1 using XDA Labs
I am unlocked since July 2018. Sadly, custom roms are not bug-free and I was lacking important features for day-to-day usage (alot of issues with treble roms and hotspot for instance, which is mandatory for me since it is my only internet access point). Every time I try roms (aospex/treble) I finally come back to stock because at least, almost everything I need is working.
Imo, it would be better to stay on stock. Magisk (+xposed if you want this specific module) is working on Pie. You just gotta uninstall Magisk partly before applying Nokia's OTAs (but as of now, with the improved system-as-root support, it may not even be necessary in a few updates, who knows).
Btw, you still get otas when unlocked, + never flash twrp and just boot the image using fastboot when needed, that way you'll avoid lots of trouble
If you have to ask about it then just don't do it
I couldn't imagine how bored I'd get with my 6.1 without root. No themes, no modules, no way to downgrade etc

Stay stock or ???

Bone stock 2013 nexus 7 flo. Last update was 6.0.1 in 2016.
Just repaired usb jack, and replaced battery. Tablet now works again. Replacement battery has about 85% cspacity of stock, but its very useable.
I have read all I could digest about ROMs, etc. Seems like lineage 14.1 is the best.
What i use this tablet for, is mostly just web browsing and Netflix. Maybe amazon and ebay purchases as well.
Ive read that Netflix won't work automatically if I install a new ROM, because they have blocked it . I've read there are two ways to get around that.... One is a script that made it work again, and the other is to use a very old version of netflix that's been modified to work.
1. Long-term, over a year or two or three does this Netflix issue pose any problems ? How much pita is it ongoing?
2. Does this Netflix issue go away if you revert back to stock?
3. for my uses, is it worth upgrading the ROM at all or just keep everything stock. Stock works, except it's a little slow sometimes. Does that get better or worse with lineage 14.1?
In spite of the security drawbacks, i lean towards just leaving it alone because it works. Thats more important than fancy additional features in Android. It's going to quit working soon then that would be a good reason to change the ROM. I have an old phone that the version of Chrome won't update in it and gives some problems.
My 2 cents, as a noob.
I would recommend the jump to 14.1 over stock. If nothing else you get streamlined right from the starting line with little bloat. I am still using 14.1, and very happy with it, but then I am doing nothing very demanding, just reading books, email, etc..
I used Wug's Nexus Root Kit when I initially rooted and installed 14.1. It worked like a dream for me (who was terrified of accidentally bricking my Nexus 7).
Here is the link to Lineage 14.1 that remains stock with continuing weekly security updates.:
Notice: LineageOS build repository discontinued. | disavowed.jp
Best of Luck, Tam
Installing old netflix version can't happen. Doesn't do downloads. I use this to watch while travelling.....that's a must.
Do the other workarounds work? What about 17.1? Any bugs like this in it? I didn't see any mentioned.
