I know the OTA just came out, but I was wondering if anyone found a way to access the Hotspot without rooting, like it was done on 5.1.1.
Thanks in advance.
Any word or way to do this would love to have the hotspot with out the subscription or javing to root if i have to root thats fine

Anyone know what happened I switched from dj29 today I was running the hotspot all the time using it for wireless routing. Once I odined the dk17 modem(specifically the modem.bin) and quantum1.5 rom the hotspot no longer would activate without shutting off data. Any ideas why.

Anyone please help. Much better than adhoc wireless tether.

You might want to relax. You responded 3 hours after making the thread. You need people to have time to re create, test, and find a solution

Use Wireless Tether for Root Users from the market in the meantime. It's free and works good for me.
Ok mystery...have you seen anyone working on this issue at all thanks.

No and if someone was they would have posted something. Honestly this looks like an isolated problem. I suggest trying wireless tether like mentioned above or try reflashing the rom.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
i dont think this is an isolated problem, i have the same issue that the sprint hotspot shuts off data in the DK17 rom as many others do. I do believe in the Viper rom is has been fixed. hopefully someone will port that fix over to the other froyo roms we are using.
Thx iro

So any fixes for this?

Are you talking about mobileAP or the hotspot app? I believe those are two separate things, someone correct me if I'm wrong. But if that's the case that maybe why people don't have an answer for you.

Not sure if this was resolved, but thought I would chime in since I had the same problem with Nebula ROM 1.0.6 (running DK17). I just got a Xoom wifi and was planning on being able to go full mobile via my Epic 4G but discovered that the Wifi hotspot isn't working on my ROM (I love everything else about it and wanted to keep it). Unfortunately the current version of wifi tether from the market failed also.
I downloaded this version of wifi tether, which supports Infrastructure Mode (the XOOM won't do Ad-Hoc yet, so I need this). Hope this helps someone...it works great for me with the new Xoom and Nebula ROM on DK17.

Sorry, but apparently I'm too much of a noob to allow posting of links so you'll have to copy/paste it into your browser.

Rooting on its own, won't do anything, but freezing or deleting the tethering manager or the tethering provision (if you're on stock ICS) should get the job done.
Now keep in mind that T-Mobile's tethering detection works by detecting your browser agent. Therefore if you're tethering another android phone, then they won't know (unless they were to inspect packets of data, which they don't do) but if tethering to a PC it's best to install a Web Browser agent switch, so they think that you're really using your Android browser.
Now keep in mind that you're doing this completely on your own risk. It should work, but if they catch you, then there might be consequences.

You are talking about the unrestricted mod Jov23 implemented into his Darthstalker ROM. It works great, only thing is T-Mobile sometimes catches wind of your tethering by sniffing the user agent, and then they shut your ability to tether off. So two ways around this. Use a user agent switcher on your computer so it looks like a phone to T-Mobile, use safari browser which already works fine without switching user agent, or use VPN so T-Mobile doesn't get a chance to see what your using. I recommend hotspot shield app from play store.

You can still tether, as long as you use a VPN T-Mobile won't detect it or at least stop you from tethering. VPN One Click in the Playstore works fine for me, sometimes it takes a couple of tries for it to connect and stick but it gets the job done once it does, plus it's free.

Yeah vpn lets tether work even after tmobile turning it off. I think VPN one click limits you to 100 mb ? Hotspot shield has unlimited VPN

If anything use the hotspot shield, then download foxfi from the store, run hotspot shield with foxfi = win and unlimited tethering!

I have been using my device as a hotspot for months now on a rooted device for free with no problems. last month I used 119gb of data without T-mobile sending me anything. All I had to do is change the user agent on whatever device I connected to my phone. If its another android device then
I dont have to change the user agent because T-Mobile has no clue its not my phone. Now on my laptop I just change the user agent in google chrome to Opera and since Opera is a android browser T-Mobile has no idea its not my Phone.

Can anyone confirm a working hotspot app for the Verizon HTC One that allows free hotspot using phone data? For the rooted folks, can anyone confirm if loading a ROM allows for free native hotspot? I'm considering to upgrade to the HTC One from a Galaxy Nexus but I want to make sure I'm covered for hotspot because it's an important feature for me. My wifi tablet is useless on the road without it.

FoxFi works for me.
Yes, +1 for FoxFi, works great. Although it doesn't re-enable WiFi. But that's a minor nuisance.
I rooted my HTC One and have Wireless Tether and it is working. If you are referring to the native Verizon Tethering App, I did see a post in another forum that discussed there is a way to get the Verizon app to tether without a tethering plan if you have a rooted phone, but there was no link or directions on how to do it.
FoxFi working perfectly here too

I'm gonna point out I had an issue with FoxFi today. I had to uninstall and reboot and reinstall. Seems that VPN connection it uses seems to inadvertantly stop working. I'm assuming that's what it uses to trick the mobile hotspot to turn on.

What I meant by native hotspot is enabling the feature within Android settings, no app needed. Normally I think the carrier can detect and charge using this method on the stock ROM. However I remember people telling me that they can use it undetected after installing a custom ROM.
Does anyone knows if tethering works on Verizon HTC one after root with Firewater ? I want to make sure before I start messing around with my phone
You need to flash a Rom that allows the native tethering to work. Viper one , santods Roms and ecliptic (sp?) are just some of the more popular sense Roms. Really reading any Rom op will tell you if native tethering works or not. I am running viper one but know with 5.0 some people are having tethering issues bit a fix is on its way. 4.3 works flawlessly

I'm on stock now and my tether works fine but my phone recently downloaded Android update that I didn't installed yet because I read that Firefox won't work with it. Now I wanted to root my phone long time ago to get rid off those
"Garbage" Verizon apps but I don't want to mess around with it till I know my tether will work. Thanks for the Info guys.
Tether works fine on the newest ota with the stock hot spot app, as long as your rooted and can make a small file edit. Firefox also works just fine.
