VS985 Sim Unlock? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Verizon LG G3 VS985 running Android 6.0. I'm travelling out of the country and would love to unlock the sim card so I can get a sim card in the place I'm traveling to without paying the obscene amount Verizon requires. I've seen there is a number to call to enter a lock code for the ATT, T-Mobile, and D8** models of the phone, but nothing for the VS985.
Is there a way to unlock this phone?

Saw on Reddit that the Sim slot is already unlocked in the VS985? Can someone confirm?

Yes you can unlock the device, you can purchase an unlock code or Ebay or a third party unlocking website. There might be a free guide somewhere out there but you'd have to look. Or you can get a AT&T phone and just use since you don't need to unlock them in order to use your Straight Talk sim.

If the phone is sim unlocked, then it should be fine to be used on any carrier. However, not all carrier allow sim unlocked devices to work with their sim cards as the have blocked sim cards. I am not familiar with Verizon, but at first sight it should work flawlessly. :good:
Okay. Thanks
If anyone else comes across this.. The final answer is that it cannot be activated on vzw

unlocking note 4 question

Hey guys just purchased a code from cellunlocker.net and was wondering can I still unlock the phone if I don't have a foreign sim card? Just switched to Verizon so I no longer have service in the ATT sim. Is there a way to manually bring up the screen where you input the code?

The best way to unlock any samsung device is by inserting a foreign sim card.
Just letting you know, AT&T phone's are known to not work with Sprint or Verizon. Let me know if I am wrong but this is the strong consensus.
This is because Verizon is CDMA based while AT&t and other carriers around the world are GSM.
Just a heads up

Verizon SIM in CARRIER UNLOCKED T-Mobile s8+ not working

Hi
I have a carrier unlocked T-Mobile s8+ and need to use a Verizon SIM in it and am getting errors trying to use a verizon SIM. The Verizon SIM is from another phone and is already registered. I put the IMEI number of the phone into Verizons web portal to test compatibility and it failed. Does that mean there is no way to get this combination to work? Does the IMEI need to be in the VZW database for this to work? Will flashing XAA guarantee this to work? Thanks for any help and advice.

do u have a tmobile phone, it is different than the carrier unlocked phone, those are 2 different models,
the carrier unlocked.. the sim is unlocked..
the tmobile is not carrier unlocked, and by flashing the firmware of the unlocked version, will NOT unlock the sim.. u will need to device unlock app with the tmobile phone 1st... and usually tmobile will NOT unlock unless u have paid it off and using on their system for 40 days..
others like me had it unlocked with days of service, cause we are tmobile customers for years already... I on the other hand bought the phone on ebay from someone who bought it from Samsung and the imei was not added to tmobile system and I had to call tmobile to add the imei which took about 3 days, then to call back to request the sim unlock which took another 3 days, the device unlock app unlocked the phone instantly...
that was my process for me to get the sim unlock... but if urs it not unlocked and is paid off, another way to get it unlocked it to give it to someone u know, let them use it and call tmobile to start the above process...
Hope that sums up what must be done...

Hi thanks for the explanation, I am pretty familiar with the differences between carrier (SIM) unlock and unlocked firmware as I have flashed Android in the past. I had the phone carrier (SIM) unlocked by T-Mobile through their app and I was still not able to use the Verizon SIM in my phone (not registered error). It turns out (and I found this out by reading through the many messages in this forum) that T-Mobile firmware apparently disables some frequencies that other carriers may use. Once I flashed the XAA unlocked *firmware*, I popped in my Verizon SIM and it worked like a charm. I hope this info is useful to someone at some time and I thank all of you for your contributions to getting this working. KUDOS!

Good to know, but sound weird, thought T-Mobile phones work for all gsm Sims just needing to change apn,
But now cdma merging with gsm, that's so much better as far as phones go, use any phone now from any provider.
Look how the s8 plus is all the same software and the same hardware, just different carrier stuff..

I thought it was weird too. Busted my head for a couple of days trying to figure it out. Is Verizon still CDMA? *scratches head*
Yes, their 3g and 2g networks are CDMA.
If you insert Verizon sim into T-mobile phone, you'll get LTE data, but you won't be able to make calls. Only data will work. T-mobile firmware support band 2, 4 and 13, so you should have data, but not phone service. If you don't have data icon, you'll need add Verizon apn.
FYI
Flashing the phone with G955U1 firmware fixed this issue. I am now able to use this successfully on Verizon.

LG G7/G7+ Sim Unlock Code

Hi guys, I want to buy LG G7 Thinq phone, but I found that there are few versions of it LM-G710, LM-G710EM, LM-G710EX etc. So which one is easier to sim unlock after purchase? I heard that AT&T version is the easiest one.
I want to send it this phone to my friend to India, want to make sure that I will choose the right version.
[UPDATE] successfully unlocked using this service: Mod edit
thanks for help guys
I heard that lg g7 sim unlock code will work perfectly on at&t phones, so if you can order at&t version it will be very easy to unlock sim of this phone.

There is no ATT version.
ATT went with the V35 instead.
The 710ULM is what is used on ATT and is the carrier unlocked model available from B+H or Bestbuy.
No SIM unlock needed.

Lg g7 sprint
I have an lg g7 from sprint ,i want to unlock it at t mobile who can help me to unlock it ?
unlock a sprint lg of the latest models that can not be box, costs 150usd
in the sprint telephones it is not useful to enter unlock code because these do not have that type of security for unlocking and less the last ones that have encryption by RSA
this website doesn't work for sprint
unlock code doesn't work
At the time of writing I cannot find ppl that are capable of gsm unlocking my lg g7 sprint usa
Also I know 2 men deep in unlocking, they told me it will take some time to do 1st unlock
I can offer 30$ if someone can do it. I just need my phone. sick of my old huawei. I need only gsm unlock on it.

US Cellular variant should already be unlocked. Even though it's the "U.S. Cellular" model, in REALITY it's the same model sold as the official carrier unlocked open market model. The only difference is the open market model is sold by authorized 3rd party retailers like B&H Photo and those IMEI and DEVIC_ID (in the past) were also registered with the LG Developer website to be eligible for bootloader unlock codes.
But for just SIM card unlock/carrier unlock, they're exactly the same. At least that's the way it's been for LG V30 and before that the LG G6. US Cellular is so small they don't warrant a dedicated phone like like Verizon or T-mobile, so LG lets them sell the carrier unlocked model as "their" phone.
For the LG V30/V30+ US9998, there's no difference whatsoever in the US Cellular and open market models, for performance, bands, stock apps installed, etc. It's the EXACT same phone.
If you buy the T-Mobile version, you unlock it for free after purchase

T-Mobile has an app. You pay for the phone and it's yours, so you just unlock it with the app. I'm sure you could just call them to unlock it too.

So if anybody successfully managed to unlock a Sprint LG G7 please post a proof, otherwise it’s just fake advertising of certain website or just speculation.

My G7 just updated to G710P11a 2 days ago, was on G710P10a prior. So I just wan to confirm, lgsimunlock;com was able to unlock your Sprint G7 and it's now on TMobile? Someone on xda was warning people not to use their service, that it's a scam. I want to be sure if I am going to pay them. Thanks

Lgsimunlock wont work since the g7 from sprint doesn't ask you for an unlock code when you insert another sim. Ive had my g7 from sprint sitting there
UPDATE: I did some digging around I found out that you need to open up this hidden menu to input the unlock code. I haven't been able to find it. But maybe the lgsimunlock site could work. I wouldn't mind wasting $13 just to make sure it works

Lg g7 thinQ G710EM bought in sweden (regional lock)
Hi guys, have you ever faced like this version G710EM which is not locked particular sim carrier (its only for EU carriers). I couldn’t use the phone in Asia. i bought unlocking code but is never asks the code when i change the sim card (reboot, restart, factory reset didn’t help). How can i unlock it for every carrier? Thank you very much in advance.
Your phone is region locked. On phone box you have to have a seal with a warning “For use with European SIM only“ and a leaflet inside with an explanation what region locked means and how you can disable it.
Long story short: you have to use your phone with a European SIM card on a European network for at least 30min. After that your phone is region free and can be used on any network with any SIM card worldwide.
