AT&T Note 4 Enable Hotspot Options! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I am in love with my Note 4 and don't want to replace it. I have stock AT&T Note 4 unlocked with all the AT&T apps and etc. and would like to enable hotspot without paying extra premium for that service to AT&T. I am travelling overseas this summer having it is a must for connectivity with my laptop. I have explored in following directions!
First rooting phone and then may find hotspot fix after that (not sure if something exists) but running 5.1.1, I don't think there is root available yet for me? I found several posts upon googling that it's not available. Even if I get it rooted, is there concrete solution to hotspot fix? I don't want to downgrade to 5.0.X? and then root as it's just too much hassle!
OR
Easiest fix right now seems I get rid of this phone and get International version (I believe modeled SM-N910H ?) And that should allow me enable hotspot out of box from settings menu? correct?
Also will TMobile version SM-N910T, if I buy unlocked, will it allow me to enable hotspot? Does TMobile put software restrictions like AT&T? I don't want to buy and resale and all that headache!
Please advice!
Thank you

Not a single reply please help!

Only thing I know you can do on the AT&T version is to get a family share plan on your AT&T service. Tethering is included in those plans, then enabled on the phone with the stock app. I use it without problems on mine.
That's all I've got.

[Q] Questions about unlocking HTC One M8, using unlimited data for mobile hotspot

Hello folks, Ive lurked here for a while and gotten great info and am hoping to get some help here. I apologize if some of what Im asking is obvious to you folks but it isnt to me so here I am. I tried HoFo but got no help there.
Ive been using factory unlocked Sony Xperias for a while (Z, ZL, Z Ultra)so never had this issue before, but I have an HTC One M8 coming and unfortunately its ATT branded, though I bought it from a private seller and not ATT themselves. Im also grandfathered into unlimited data for many years now, and with my Sonys can turn on mobile hotspot anytime and use my data with ATT none the wiser. Now Im assuming since I was dumb enough to buy an ATT phone, I will be told to contact ATT once I pop in my SIM and try to turn on mobile hotspot, is this correct? If so, will unlocking the phone resolve this issue? As of now ATT has no idea Ive bought this phone, nor did they ever even recognize my Sonys because they never sold them, but since this is an ATT M8, Im assuming theyll know immediately what Im using, identify my plan and lock me out. Im hoping I can get around that.
I also imagine since its an ATT phone it will have all sorts of abilities locked out and a lot of fluff added in. How can I get the features unlocked? Is there anyway to buy a carrier branded phone and get it to be similar to one that was bought factory unlocked from the beginning and never branded?
Any help and advice would be appreciated and TIA
Ok, if I asked too much stuff there that was obvious to you but not me, can someone just please tell me if unlocking the bootloader will at least unlock the mobile hotspot function for me so I can turn it on?
Well, just unlocked, rooted, s-off and twrpd my first phone. What a b*tch, lol! But I had to learn one of these days. Sadly, still cant get the native or any other mobile hotspot app to work though. I saw a thread about a VZW M8 hack but still cant seem to find anything for this ATT thing. No one even willing to talk to me?

You can try wiFi Tether Router. Its in the play market but you have to pay $2.50 for it. Has worked for me. I don't think this app can be dectected by the carriers like ATT because it does't use the native hotspot of the phone.
Youll have to flash a custom rom that has this feature [email protected] and is debloated, xarrier build will block it and tell you to conract them.....
This is not going to help you at all, but I pay the extra $30 per month. I use up to 50GB of data each month tethering, and I want to make sure the my carrier doesn't block me.
So now that I've done my service by telling you to do the right thing, you use to be able to go in using SQLLite and turn off the checker. For VZW it was around line 149 - 160. Can't remember. I would think you could do that for AT&T. Maybe someone knows? Or maybe AT&T doesn't work like that any more, of maybe KK doesn't work like that any more.

Purchasing an Unlock Code 3rd Party

Has anyone had success doing this? I purchased my Note4 that I've had for a Month now through an App called "Offer up". The seller stated the device was ATT Unlocked. I do not use ATT I use Cricket which is owned by ATT and the phone worked with my Sim so I assumed all was good. Well I realized today when I first tried the Mobile HotStop that the phone was in fact not locked as it did not work. So I went to ATT/device unlock and sent them a request and they denied stating that "I have not complete my Contract Agreement". FIGURES. Can anyone recommend a 3rd Party that they have had success with before. I appreciate responses in Advanced. Thanks.
Okay so I got the code and unlocked the phone successfully but still hot spot will not work
Running Lollipop? Cricket disables hot spot functionality regardless if phone is unlocked. Unless you've got a spare phone running KitKat your chances of tethering on Cricket are limited to nonexistent, and for that matter most other carriers for boot locked phones.
I'm on AT&T. Tethering is included with service for anyone on a family share plan. The tethering app that is pre-installed on the phone works well with this.
I realize people are using this phone with other carriers (some that obviously won't allow tethering) but on all the threads I've seen about tethering, I've never seen anyone mention this about AT&T.

Unfortunately yes running lollipop. And yes I did find out that Cricket is the reason why the hotspot feazure is not working. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my 4.4.4 rooted att galaxy s5 for this note 4... oh well it's done now.
I've tried 3rd party app pdanet/foxfi for Bluetooth teathering and it does work but it is veryour limited. Only the Brower gets to access the wifi not applications. Looked it up and it stated on the pdanet site that in fact some apps will not work with Bluetooth teathering.
Can anyone Recommended another 3rd party that might work for wifi hotspot?
If not another carrier?
Preferably something cost efficient.
I pay 85 a month for two phones. Unl. Talk/text/data. 10gigs hi speed data on my line and 2.5 on my girls as she doesn't use alot. No taxes. 85 flat. Just for reference
So I called Cricket wireless. They told me an add on for hotspot is $10 a month and will share from the 10gigs I have on my plan for my number. Not bad. They went to try and activate it and said that they could not because I brought my own device and the plan is only able to be added if you have a cricket smartphone (my note 4 is att) or if you have an iPhone byod.
My question now is do you guys think if I buy a cricket phone or an iPhone and give them the imei, have themade add the feature to my account and then swap the sim card and throw it in my note 4 without registering the note 4 on my account if that will work?
Just to help anyone else out that may be wanting hotspot on their byod cricket device. I found a workaround. If you purchase a phone or have a good friend that will let you use their imei of their !!hotspot compatible!! !!CRICKET!! phone you are good. Today I had a friend go with me to the store location and we switched imei's on our acccount. So I technically have her LG stylo imei linked to my phone number in the cricket system. And she has my old ATT S5 byod imei on her account. This allowed the Rep to activate the Mobile Hotspot on my Account. I simply left my Simcard in my phone while the change took place. I'm not sure if removing it or changing phones will register a change in their system or not. I am paying the $10 a month to cricket to enable mobile hotspot. But completely worth the trade off when my only other options were to pay more/ get less with a carrier that supports/ doesn't block hotspot or sell my Blackberry and Note4 and find Different Versions. My next phone will not be an ATT phone this is for sure.
unlock code
You say you got your code. Where did you get it from? I'm having the same AT&T issue"did fulfill my contract......"
You can try UnlockRadar.com, I'm using them regularly as I own a phone repair shop. I'm satisfied with their services. https://www.unlockradar.com

Unlocking my T-Mobile Galaxy S6 edge + to Verizon Possible?

All,
First off, I want to get it out there that this question has nothing to do with rooting and / or flashing custom ROMs. I have recently acquired a T-Mobile S6 Edge Plus recently and am desperately trying to get it unlocked to Verizon, is this possible? Without issue for me to get this process done? Will I lose an quality, features? service disruptions? any instability and reliability whatsoever? Is this a fruitless endeavor? Waste of my money? I get that GSM vs. CDMA are operating on 2 different bands, but I have also heard that this doesn't cause any issues. Please help me, I really want to use my beast of a phone on Verizon's network since that is my carrier and don't plan on changing to a GSM carrier anytime soon. Thoughts? Suggestions? Also, who would be a reliable source or mom and Pop shop that I can go to in Chicagoland? I don't want to do this Unlock business online if I can help it. Any ideas on how much this service will cost me? $40? or would it be closer to $100? Last I heard, even if I went it got it unlocked to CDMA, I would lose Internet service period. Is this a true statement? (FYI, I understand there are no issues from unlocking within and between AT&T to T-Mobile and vice versa.) But GSM to CDMA is another story.
Thanks for reading folks!

Yes it will work just fine after unlocking the phone as long as you get a micro sim card from Verizon.
If the phone has been paid off for over 30 days then you can use the free "Tmobile Device Unlock" app to unlock
it and if the phone is STOCK and no one deleted the unlock app it should be in the app drawer of the phone.
If the "Device Unlock" app is not in the app drawer then you can simply download it from the playstore.
To unlock it with the unlock app it only takes one click. (you can choose between permanent or temporary unlock)
Here is the direct playstore link for the Tmobile Device Unlock app in case you need it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmobile.simlock&hl=en
Here is Tmobile's "Device Unlock" step by step instruction link in case you need it:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-14011
I unlocked my Tmobile S6 Edge+ and when I go into Settings>Mobile networks and click on
"Network operators" then click "Search Now" it displays Tmobile, AT&T and Verizon as options.
The only functions which I know will NOT work using Verizon sim card is wifi calling and video calling.
Also you will need to setup your APN to match Verizon's APN settings.
If you have or know of someone who has a Verizon phone you can simply go into it's settings and
"Settings>Mobile networks>Access point names and edit your phone's access point names settings
making it the same as the Verizon phone's access point names. (this is for Internet to work)
P.s. If the Unlock Device app does NOT unlock your phone it means that it's either not paid off or it has been stolen. (Blacklisted)
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Anyone Successful in Activating HotSpot on a locked Verizon phone?

I'm curious if anyone out there has been successful in getting their HotSpot to work without the subscription.
I work off of a corporate and locked phone so I am trying to get my hotspot working as it is a grandfathered unlimited plan.
I haven't been successful so far, so who has been? What did you do in order to get your hotspot working?
In the past I had a Note 2, Note 3, and LG G4 all had to have a special modded app in order to get the hotspot to work. I was hoping that something like this would come around, but I think I will have to wait until a successful Root method is available
I have the unlocked version that I bought through best buy. The hotspot works on mine w/out subscription. I am also on the grandfathered unlimited plan.

Awesome! Glad it works with the Unlocked version.
I am more interested in those with Locked phones though, as that is what I currently have and I would really like to find a functioning work around.
I need the same. I didn't want to risk losing verizon features so I didn't order the unlocked model from Sammy.

Holy crap, well that works.
Too bad I keep this thing in an Otterbox Defender :/
I guess when I am really desperate I will do it, thanks for the trick!
I can get it to turn off, but it shuts off after a few seconds every time.
Edit - just tried it again and it's sticking now. Weird.
I have this working and got it from the note 8 forums. See my other posts.
I bought my note 8 from verizon and was told it was unlocked already. Is this true? How can i check? My point being is i paid for hotspot with my verizon s8 plus bc i couldnt get a work around working and i HAVE to have hotspot for sure. So im asking because if it works without subscription on an unlocked verizon note 8 then is it worth canceling the hospot i pay for every month to try and see if it works on mine? I guess i just need to know how to see if my phone is unlocked like they claimed 1st. Any suggestions out there?

Ive since been 100% GUARENTEED by verizon my phone is unlocked so do you guys think im safe to cancel my hotspot subscription and it will work without? Please let me have some opions!
Flash the unlocked firmware to your phone. Works great and no messing with sim cards. You can always flash back if you want to.
^ Yeah do what he said. Easy fix , Sim card trick is too annoying. I flashed the unlocked firmware onto the Verizon Note 8 as well and am rooted and can use the hotspot care-free now.

To flash the unlocked firmware, do you have to be on a specific firmware already? I'm on AQH7 baseband. Also it says I have a system update to install, but I've been putting it off in case it would prevent me from unlocking or rooting.... I just got the phone two days ago, and it immediately shows this update. I'll keep delaying it. Thanks for the help.
PS, I had the paid version of Foxfi and have been able to tether my phone to the tablet via Bluetooth and it didn't bring up the subscription warning. You have to install pdanet tablet on the tablet or Android device you want to tether to, and both devices would need Bluetooth.

V35 + Cricket = no paid hotspot. WTF? help...

For years I have used a Leeco with a custom ROM as a hotspot for the Android head unit in my car. Last month, I got a warning about hotspot use and decided to go legit. The hotspot data got funky after the warning.
->I bought an LG V35 direct from Cricket, carrier unlocked
->I upgraded 5 family lines to the "Cricket More" plan that includes 15GB of hotspot data
But Cricket blocks all except a short list of phones from hotspot use even with a paid plan. I spent about an hour on the phone and they basically offered me nothing except to return the phone. No BYOD phones will work as a hotspot either except for iPhones.
What can I do? Has anyone else run into this? The custom ROM Leeco basically didn't work after the warning. Is anyone successfully using a V35 with a custom ROM as a hotspot?
Thanks for any help.
10/6/2019 Resolution for anyone else with a similar Problem:
1. it is difficult/impossible to bootloader unlock and root a LG V35. But that's not apparently the issue here.
2. Cricket only supports wifi hotspot on a short list of phones and all else including BYOD rooted/custom ROM devices are throttled to the point of uselessness even with a paid hotspot plan.
3. PDAnet works well but didn't work for my Android car headunit even after every known update.
4. I am using EasyConnect, a point-to-point screen mirroring app over USB, on the head unit and its OK. Not great but good enough to not trash Cricket and look for a new carrier.
Thanks!
Since no one else has responded, I'll make an attempt. You are going down a lot of paths without gathering any info in advance. The v35 cannot be bootloader unlocked without specialized tools. Even if you bootloader unlock, there is limited developer support. TWRP has not been ported to the v35 and there are no custom roms. Hopefully this situation will change, but the prospects are dimming as time goes by.
You still MIGHT be able to get hotspot working. I say might because I am not familiar with Cricket. Many carrier's phones check for a tethering subscription before allowing the hotspot to be turned on. The rom on the phone communicates with the carrier to make the check. That MAY be the issue you are facing since Cricket is an arm of AT&T. If so, you can get around it by cross-flashing to the open market / Google Fi rom which won't do a subscription check. I did that with my AT&T branded v35. It works great on StraightTalk. Browse around in the threads in the v35 forums and you will find information about how to cross-flash.
Now back to the MIGHT part. Some carriers, Verizon for example, can detect tethering. They throttle hotspot speeds for Unlimited plans. Presumably they could just block hotspot traffic. I have tried everything to get around throttling to no avail.
I might be able to help here. I have a rooted essential phone on the unlimited data + hotspot Cricket plan. I am able to activate hotspot but it is severely throttled (128k by the looks of it). No fixes, not even fixes that use root, has changed this.
The only thing I have gotten to work is pdanet app ($8 in playstore, after 30 days). With it I am able to connect my laptop/tablets to my data plan, all while hiding the usage from Cricket. I am not sure if this will work with your head unit or if it's viable since you kind of got to jump through some hoops to get the stuff working but just thought I would chime in here.

Thanks, there seems to be 2 things going on. 1st is the tether provisioning check. One can turn the provisioning check off (most custom ROMs have done this and it was what I did with my Leeco); or you can pay the carrier. For my v35 I paid the carrier and it still didn't work since there is some 2nd network check that isn't visible to me.. What runderekrun describes is exactly what happened to me.

Thanks, that is helpful. For me, I went years with no trouble and then got a warning text followed by the throttling. It was very, very slow.
I just tried PDAnet+ and it worked! Hurray! seems to need the app to act as a passthrough but I can live with that. I have not tried it on the head unit yet but it's fundamentally just a big Android tablet and PDAnet just worked on my tablet that is actually a tablet. Thanks!

PDAnet+ worked my S3 tablet and Windows laptop. But did *not* operate for my Android head unit. Any tips for figuring it out?
