Stock HTC M9 stuck on HTC splash screen after battery died - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Unsolved] Phone sent to HTC service.
Hey Guys,
I'm back again and this phone is breaking my heart. My phone is still stock from the last time I had a similar problem.
My battery died, when I plugged it back in and hit the power button it powered up as far as the splash screen and hangs there.
When I go into recovery mode the log says
Supported API: 3
handle_cota_install: install cwpkg to /cache/cota/cwpkg.zip
handle_cota_install: install cwprop to /cache/cota/cw.prop
E:Fail to open file: /sys/devices/platform/android_usb/host_mode
Write host_mode error handle_cota_install: Can't mount /sdcard
I've tried clearing the cache/partition and rebooting but I'm in work and don't have access to save my info so I don't want to factory reset yet. Is there any thing else I can do or am I stuck with doing a factory reset ..... AGAIN!

If you can get into bootloader or download mode try "fastboot erase cache"

Thanks for the suggestion thicklizard, I'll give it a shot when I get home and update the post.
Thanks!

?
You unlock Bootloader ,make Root or Soff ? Can you use warranty in HTC.
If u can go to Bootloader you can use Erase option ,or if is RUU for yours Htc verion you can flash to stock.
I dont know what is in without root and unlocked bootloader :/
I always have Unlocked bootloader ,Soff ,root and latest TWRP
If u have TWRP you can flash Rom for yours Firmware version
Sorry for my ENG

Well after a good few hours at the phone last night I'm still in the same position. My hands are a bit tied as I still have S-On but I don't know if I can even get S-off while stuck where I am. I can get in to bootloader/download/ recovery. Have tried Thicklizards suggestion above which didn't work, have also tried a hard reset. Also tried to flash a new recovery image but the error which popped up told me that I can't flash that partition with S-On. I have tried to run a RUU but I may have downloaded the wrong one, also the error which came up during install was that the battery was below 30%, I'm assuming that's an issue as I'm trying to run it from bootloader, I've tried looking around and I can't find any resource that would tell me if trying to run the RUU from bootloader would cause that error. Ive also tried to run the RUU as an image on the SD card but I got an error 99 that said I had a failure with the RU. I'll be away from my laptop for 2 days now but when I get back I'll try this RUU from Nikolay82, I don't know how I missed it before http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/htc-one-m9-3-35-401-12-ruu-installer-t3318517. The only issue is that this is an upgrade to 3.35.401.12 and I'm already at 3.35.401.12. The struggle continues.

If your bootloader is locked you can't flash a recovery, is it looked or unlocked?.
but you can try to flash the OTA, still you're with 3.35.401.12, by Nikolay82's method...

Bootloader is unlocked, I did actually try to lock it again using fastboot oem lock and it failed with "unknown command". I think I'll send it away for repair this time instead of fixing it myself again, but that means my phone will be gone for who knows how long.

For the fastboot command, do you have open terminal windows from the fastboot folder?

Hi BZH yes I was opening the terminal from the fastboot folder. Fastboot devices command and a few other fastboot commands were working but any fastboot oem command wasn't working.

still searching where the mistake is coming from ???

Could try fastboot oem relock

Thanks for that Thicklizard, That didn't work either I'm afraid. The phone is off to HTC service now so we'll see what comes of that. I'll mark this thread as solved ... or rather unsolved.

Flashing new recovery leaves old one and cannot perform fastboot oem lock

EDIT:
Or if anybody knows where I can look for help on this I would really appreciate it.
Hi,
I am searching yesterday and today to solve my problem but no locuk so far.
Yesterday the phone rebooted and since then is staying on "HTC quietly..."
I tried to flash ROM again that was already on my sdcard but recovery said "Bad zip".
Now I cannot access /sdcard from recovery. "Error mounting"
When "fastboot oem lock" I am getting this message:
... INFOLock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
And then phone reboot and stays at "HTC quitely...."
Flashing boot.img and recovery.img goes OK but the recovery stays the same.
And I have "Low battery level cannot flash". but i can manage to charg the phone a bit.
This is what I have:
HOX Tegra3
hboot 1.39
CWM recovery v5.8.4.0
IC 15.0.1
Does anybody know more about it.
Thank you

Re: fastboot oem lock returns error...?
Why do you want to lock the bootloader ?
2 options to charge
1 put the phone inside the recovery, it will charge there
2 put this file in the fastboot folder and boot the phone into the bootloader/fastboot usb mode and execute the bat file ! It will continuously reboot the phone and charge it little by little

Thank you but charging is not my main issue. Rather that my phone keeps staying on htc quietly... and that i cannot access sd card.
Re: fastboot oem lock returns error...?
Locking the bootloader will not help you, keep the bootloader unlocked and reflash the recovery, try it again after that
Also erase cache afterwards
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache

I did that...no matter what i flash it says OK but nothing is changed.
I tried flashing other recovery ... nothing.
Thank you.
It seams that I have to take it to a service...
Re: fastboot oem lock returns error...?
Strange ???
try this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
It has commands which might help you...
Thank you all
Thank you all for your time.
I did everything, including reinstalling drivers and trying all again, and could not solve it.
I took it to the store hoping they will not mind "unlocked" status.
When I get it back I'll be posting it here if someone can benefit from that info.

Galaxy Nexus reboot loop flashing error FAIL Exceed Buffer Size

My Galaxy Nexus reboots a few seconds after starting up. I don't have anything other than stock installed and I've tried following several guides here trying to flash it myself since the built-in recovery mode wipe data/factory reset does nothing.
I did notice something strange which following a guide, when I oem unlock and reboot the fastboot mode it locks itself again like I didn't do anything at all. This was a problem when I was using the Android Toolkit too but I managed to over ride my own fastboot oem unlock commands in between its batch file commands and got to an error "FAIL Exceed Buffer Size"
I believe if I can fix or know what to do with that error I can successfully bring my phone back to factory defaults I just don't know what to do! I tried looking for the error on this forum and it came up with 0 results and google isn't helping much either.
I'd appreciate any help regarding this, even if it means my phone is beyond repair I just want to know!
Thanks guys!

best advice, flash back to stock, root the phone, and use bootunlock on your phone to unlock it,it wont wipe your data, then download a recovery.img and flash it with the flashify app, almost everything done with apps and no data loss.

I can't flash the phone to stock because of that FAIL error, and I can't root the phone because it reboot loops before I can enable USB debugging in the OS.

i mean not using toolkit, using actual fasboot. BTW: do you have a custom recovery? if so you could just adb sideload & if you can get the phone into fastboot mode and just flash a recovery then adb sideload after wiping all partitions && did you try using odin to flash back to stock (i dunno if there are odin images available,i apoligize if not)

[Q] Red Triangle and Exclamation point - won't boot and PC won't recognize

I was S-Off and rooted with Roadrunner. I went ahead and accepted 4.4 OTA fully expecting to lose S-Off and Root.
What I got was a phone that can't recognize the SD card, and won't boot past the white HTC screen (does it twice then shuts down to red triangle and exclamation point. I've tried to get to the main white admin. screen (vol. up and power) but no luck. I have go to a blue screen offering:
a reboot system - doesn't work
apply from SD card - phone can't find it
apply from phone storage - can find no files
apoply from cache - can't find any files
wipe data factory reset - did that and still nothing
wipe cache partition - didn't know what this would end up doing so I haven't tried it.
At the bottom of the screen in green it states :
Mount SDCARD Failed 1 time through 5 times.
Cannon mount SD Card (no such file or directory)
Write host_mode: 0 Done
I only wanted to get to 4.4, S-Off, unlocked, and rooted to get rid of bloatware. I've rooted before but i'm pretty much a noob (I've been reading here for 2+ years) but am lost understanding programmer language.
Can anyone help me? I'm lost as this is my only phone (I don't have a land line)

Did you try and update while having a custom recovery and/or Rom installed? Also bootloader is power+volume down. The ota won't effect s off or locked status. Just get to fastboot and boot to RUU mode and run stock RUU. Then take updates to 4.4.2
Just a little more info Gizmoe please

I wrote of my problem in middle of night and blanked on getting to bootloader. I am there now. Fastboot takes me to Fastboot USB. RUU mode isn't an option under fastboot just bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down. My PC is not recognizing the phone. I was running stock ROM. I don't recall doing anything special as far as recovery since that would be beyond my learning curve.

Can you send fastboot commands like
Code:
Fastboot devices
And see your device listed?
PS: to above
Also just noticed my phone is now saying UNLOCKED which it wasn't before. Just S-Off through roadrunner (and still S-Off). . My contract was up on Friday and called Verizon to get unlock info but they said they didn't supply that info. I needed to go to a third party (figures).

You have connectivity then. It's not going to list it in " my computer" unless its booted into Rom. Just use this thread

To flash RUU. Don't do relock or s on just flash the stock RUU.

Use cmd prompt. Did you setup adb/fastboot when you used rumrunners? In command prompt with phone plugged in while on boot loader screen type fastboot devices. If you see a serial number returned you are connected. Typing fastboot oem rebootRUU will put the phone into RUU mode where you can flash the decrypted RUU.

Just leave it zipped. Rename to RUU. Then put it in same directory you are in while using cmd prompt. Then type fastboot oem rebootRUU. Once phone is on black screen with silver letters type fastboot flash zip RUU.zip it will do some stuff and then fail saying to flush the image. Just repeat the fastboot flash zip RUU.zip again and it will succeed. You then will be complete stock. Then you should have no problems updating to kitkat either.

First type fastboot devices and make sure its connected. Phone needs to be in fast boot mode. Screen should read fastboot usb in red letters. Then type exactly
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then
Fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
RUU.zip needs to be in the same directory cmd is reading.

[Q] fastboot flash system system.img FAILED <remote: Permission denied>, need fix
Hey,
I have a ZE551ML and want to install CM. I am following the guide here. I have run into a problem on the first step which points to the guide here. At step 7 of this guide it has me use the command: fastboot flash system system.img. This fails with the error in the title of this post: FAILED <remote: Permission denied>. I have been googling this and no one has a concrete solution. Currently my phone will not even boot as the three fastboot commands before this one worked just fine and replaced the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Eric.
Even though it'll say permission denied, flashing recovery WILL work. From there you can either flash a custom ROM (from twrp) or reflash stock firmware (through stock recovery).
That's the only fix I've found. To flash a usable ROM and boot into it. May need to turn on USB debugging in dev options. But after doing those two things, fastboot will stop with the permission denied issues.
Hey, thanks for the quick reply.
Currently the phone does not boot at all.
What do you mean by flashing recovery?
When I enter recovery mode at the moment it says applying update and then gives me the android on its side with the red triangle and error! below it.
So i can't currently flash though recovery mode as far as I can tell.

Found a guide here dealing with this error, working on it.
Hey,
So I got my phone unbricked by flashing the recovery with the stock ASUS firmware "ASUS ZenFone 2=ZE551ML(Z00AD/Z00ADA/Z00ADB/Z00ADC) software Image: V2.19.40.22 for WW SKU only" available at the ASUS official website and following a guide at an outside link that I can't post.
Now, I have enabled developer mode and turned on USB debugging but am now getting the permission denied on all fastboot commands of the OTA guide, step 7.
Does anyone know a good next step?
Hey, managed to root the phone with: Temporary CWM
After setting USB debug on did you connect the phone to PC via USB and authenticated the PC? When you connect the phone to PC via USB with debugging on, it should pop up a window on the phone after a few seconds asking you for permission for the PC. You can checkmark the box that says always trust this computer's RSA fingerprints or something along those lines.
Hope this helps!

Yes, I did do this but I have now checked the check mark to make it always trust my computer. I then booted into fastboot but still get permission denied despite having root through CWM and having this checked off.
When I got root through CWM by the fastboot tethered recovery it gave me permission denied on all steps but it still booted into CWM recovery. I was then able to install SuperSU to root it, though it gave me an error, and I used Root Checkerr to see if the phone was rooted. It says it is but I am still unable to flash any images onto the phone since I re-installed the stock firmware.
I'm super confused about this whole thing, IDK what to do now.
Flash stock recovery again and adb sideload the stock firmware all over.
This is the latest up-to-date 2.20.40.59 firmware: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZE551ML/UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.59-user.zip
If that doesn't work then idk. You can Google the permission denied errors for fastboot like I did and there are various possible problems/solutions.
So, none of this is working.
I installed the latest firmware as you suggested and got root again by using Temporary CWM. However despite anything I try (been googling for hours with little help found) I cannot get the phone to let me flash anything I always get the permission denied error.

You can still flash recovery via fastboot even though it'll say permission denied it works. That's all you really need to do as you can install stock firmware via stock recovery or flash ROMs and whatever else through twrp recovery.

How can i tell if twrp recovery is successfully installed?
Hey, took a few days to cool off.
So it does seem I can replace recovery even though it says permission denied. I do this by using fastboot to flash the recovery, then from the bootloader on the phone I select restart bootloader and then when the bootloader re-appears I enter recovery mode ( I do this to prevent the possible replacing of the custom recovery by the stock OS). However recovery mode never boots when the latest twrp recovery is on the phone, I just end up back in the bootloader. When I flash the stock recovery back on this method successfully enters recovery mode. This also occurs if I just directly enter recovery mode after flashing twrp recovery.
Any thoughts?

Same here. I'm using elevated cmd, and fastboot is recognizing my device. But I can't flash anything, can't erase cahce, can't reformat partitions. Always failed due to permissions. And I'm stuck in a bootloop, and can't get to recovery (it just goes back into the bootloop when I try). Literally the only avenue I have to interact with this phone is fastboot, and I can't do anything with it.

ibb.co/cnu2DH
ibb.co/cqbcfx
Is there any way to turn s-off from bootload mode? Because there is no way to turn this on so i can turn off it from programmer options

I cant post links as a new user so please copy it yourself.
You need to flash recovery from download not bootloader and you need an unlocked bootloader.
Also you can't flash ruu from recovery, you need to put the file named as 0PJAIMG.zip in the root of your fat32 formatted sdcard and boot in download.
If you need more help you need to boot in download and run "fastboot getvar all" then post the result here(remove imei, sn).

No, you need to enable oem unlocking in settings to be able to unlock it.
Your only option is to flash it by ruu.
This is the ruu for your phone: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767124956
Rename it to 0PJA100.zip and put in root of your fat32 formatted sdcard then boot in download and follow onscreen instructions.

Well did as you said and problem is the same - when I start it from download mode it just keeps rebooting phone with HTC logo.
Looks like this phone is really dead thanks for your support

The process completed successfully, without any errors? If so, the nand is most probably dead.
Also you can try the fastboot method to flash, maybe you have some luck...
You need htc_fastboot.exe for this
"fastboot oem rebootRUU"
"fastboot flash zip RUU.zip" - do the command again when/if it asks.
"fastboot reboot" - when the process finish.
