Stagefright security flaw affecting 5.1 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the news the past couple days it was said that a new stagefright security flaw affects v5.1 devices.

For those G4 users on lollipop, what solutions are there? Must 5.1 users upgrade to a marshmallow ROM? Or is there software we can use that will patch or otherwise keep our 5.1 build safe?

Is G3 getting OTA of android 6.0 N?

*7.0 N (sorry for the error)
I read a few articles on the internet to know if our 2 years old G3 is getting latest Nougat update, some are saying that it wont get any updates sooner or later but some articles mention that G3 is more likely to be updated to android N. Can anyone please let me know for sure if we are getting the update or not?
Sadly, I don't think we're likely to get an OTA of N. Qualcomm no longer wishes to support the Snapdragon 801 and LG isn't going to write their own drivers for certain things. Based on what I've heard, unofficial support will be a good deal of work as well. So I would almost certainly expect no more official updates for the G3 besides maybe security patches.

New P2, no nougat update for now

Hi,
I got a new lenovo P2 (P2a42) yesterday. As soon as I started it I received two OTA updates, and my phone is now at P2a42_S062_170117_ROW.
But there is no sign of nougat update for now. Is it normal ? Do I just have to wait a bit more, or is there something I could do to get it faster ?
Thanks !
It seems that nougat update is temporarily blocked by Lenovo. Maybe they are fixing bugs and we will get a newer ota soon
yeah, on the lenovo forum, the mod says, it's blocked. we will get a "new" nougat upgrade soon.
hopefully with newer security updates than february and less bugs

Hopefully they'll recognize the hidden software button overlay as a bug instead of a 'feature'

I'd say download Nougat, everything works great! More features, maybe longer battery life and for me the phone works a little faster. Didn't find any cons yet enjoyed the design.
Nougat is a solid update, nothing against it and it may even be better in some aspects. Go for it.
you always want latest firmware version - for security updates if nothing else. Especially since recently there have been quite few big bugs found that are rather dangerous if not patched.
You dont need to update to nougat except for few new feature. If your mm is updated well ( mean security patched) you can wait for oreo version..
Nougat breaks some Xposed modules, including Xprivacy.

Are old ROMS okay to use?

Hello. Recently I thought some sort of security issue came up with the pixel 2xl, and you had to be on the latest security patch to be safe. Are old ROMs that don't have this new security update vulnerable?
Not updated rom have security issues.

Just saw this, but obvious answer is obvious. If you need the latest security patch to be safe, then old ROMs without the latest security patch aren't safe to use. They are therefore vulnerable.

try oneUI 4.0 and rollback ?

Hi,
I am reading horrible stories about the oneui 4.0 update causing for a lot of trouble ?
For that reason i have not updated since 1 dec ( = one ui 4.0 update ).
Is there an easy way of trying the update on my device and rolling back when the update is too problematic ?
thanks,
tom
I would not. Wait until the bugs are worked out.
I'm still running on Android 9 and 10 on my 2 N10+'s with no issues. Not going change the firmware as they run well... and are fulfilling their mission.
You rolled the dice every time you update especially when the device is running well.
thanks for the reply, but i am very concerned about security updates.
The phone hasn't received any since 1 December since they are combined with the one UI update.
Is there a way you can install samsung security updates separately ?
