Hi, just wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problem. I recently updated to the new patch released the week and now I cannot access my music through any music app, I can with my file explorer but not with the music app. The same thing is happening with my photos, I can see them with my file explorer but not with my Gallery app
any ideas? Im just getting out of a plane from a business trip and I panic for an instant thinking I had lost some photos. I havent had the time to see if anyone already reported this so feel free to delete this thread in case this is old news to everyone.
saludos,

Has anyone else been experiencing the following? Any ideas on how to address it beyond simply using a different app or not using the feature?
I got around to syncing a ton of music into the Google Play Music and then proceeded to sync down to my GNex. I've been having issues ever since with the Play Music app as it has now three times (at least that I've caught it doing so) in the last month or so completely dumped all my downloaded music and proceeded to re-sync and download the music all over again. Thankfully, it only downloads over a wifi connection as I don't have an unlimited data plan and have it syncing approximately 9 GB of music, but the constant downloading is also a huge battery drain.
I imagine transferring the files via cable rather than using the Play Music feature to sync would otherwise address the issue, but doesn't exactly address the root cause and makes what should be a good feature utterly worthless.
Anyway, thanks for any help in advance.
I'm having a problem with the Google Play Music app.
I've been using it fine for at least a month, but all of a sudden tonight, when trying to play some music I get the error: "Couldn't play the song your requested."
I can go to the files and play them myself with the file manager, and with the samsung music player... I even downloaded Power Amp to check and it works fine. But I can't seem to use the Play music app. I've cleared data, uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm a Canadian user. Would this have anything to do with Play music not being available in Canada? And if so why was I able to use it all this time without?
can you go to google's music page and play that way?
I don't think its nothing to do with you in Canada, Google opened the music publicly/ international several months ago.
Thanks for the response!
I can't play music that way because I don't actually have any music in the cloud... All locally on my SD Card.
Also I had to install the apk manually instead of through the store. It says play music is unavailable for my phone.... which I assumed meant Canada....
we have the same problem.. any tips how to make it work?
I think I remember someone saying to clear cache/data for the play music app.
Sent from my beastly Galaxy S 2.
They updated the app recently and its giving a lot of people issues on aokp and cm9. The prior version did too, but was hit or miss. Some had issues some didn't. If you have an older version try it
Play music is problematic at best. I loved it too. I tried to use it and I'm also a Canadian user.
I did a lot of reading and its a problem with Play music itself. Sometimes the program loses track of where exactly the music is. Its database gets out of sync. So you have to go to Manage apps and clear the data. Then download "Re-scan Media" from the app store. Let it do its work, then it will work again. But you'll have to do this constantly. Its totally not worth it. Especially when you're out... ready to play music and you have to do all that drama.
Hey guys stupid update here. Play music works again for me. Tried tons of stuff, so don't know which thing fixed it when it dies again I will try to narrow it down. Found out the mp3 codec lib is a bit flimsy. Found out play music has issues with sd card reading. Found out it also is programmed to search for atom moov contents for streaming purposes before playing. And oddly it loads/pushes bluetooth ad2p every time it plays a song. And it's database of adding song registration duplicates entries often, but it has a built in verification method. Each of these were determined through a logcat of the issue.
I had the same issue and fixed it with just a simple copy to a folder on my desktop, delete from Internal SD, then adding it back on. Now it works again.
Copy whole "music" folder or sd card contents?
Can you confirm internal or external card?
Rom?
At this point, my assumption would be your issue fell into the internal (emmc) rescan fix category.
Turns out the rescan app pulls the GetExternalStorage api which isn't able to pull external sd. It only will have the system rescan emmc. Unfortunately, Google didn't have the foresight that phones would have two cards originally. So if you have music there, clearing cache and rescanning works well for many.
Found out one other issue/fix. Someone asked me about the media app loading draining battery issue some of us have had. I had them pull the mp3s and run them through an mp3 validator and reload. It fixed both the media hang up and play music.
Here's what I tried:
My music is in my external SD card. Go to your app drawer, press menu, Manage Apps.
Scroll the top bar to the right and choose All. Find Media Storage and clear its data.
Reboot into recovery, fix permissions. Open the gallery and let the list populate (it takes a bit).
Download the app SDrescan. Run it. Reboot.
At this point PM should recognize all your music.

You got sd rescan to scan your external? On aokp/cm9?
Anyway, looks like you have also confirmed another relationship to media scanner. Though quick question, why gallery open?
Yes.
Regarding the gallery open, I figured it would get the OS jogging. But its also because there were double or triple false entries of every picture on my SD card.

i've had two root causes related to this i'll share with you guys here. i'm using an lg g pro 2. two problems:
i uninstalled two programs and the issue went away: greenify and v4a.
first, apparently *GREENIFY* was causing issues. i don't know wtf i put into auto hibernation, but something was causing this issue. at first i suspected n7player, so i degreenified it. nothing. anyways, i DID have ES File Explorer and MX Player still greenified, maybe they were the culprits?
second, i had uninstalled v4a before uninstalling greenify, but that still didn't fix the issue. anyways, after i got my music back, i reinstalled v4a and the thing stopped working all of a sudden (used 4.4 install). shifted to 2.3.4.0 and v4a did NOTHING. music worked again but it wasn't functional.
end result: i flashed the lolliviper zip from the nexus 5 forums and it works again, w00t! i'll link if you're itnerested

I did not get you. Please explain in clearer words..
I've posted something on android central forums, but I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one having this issue. I recently bought a GN3, coming from a moto x (which I loved, just wanted bigger screen). I've disabled as many apps and samsung features as I can and got the phone setup as "stock" as I can get it. However, I'm seeing a HUGE amount of lag in the gallery app. I'm going to try to get another device to make a video, but it's REALLY bad. I have 2 photos on the device at the moment and it can take about 10 seconds to load one once it's tapped. Then zooming or trying to share the photo can take another 20 seconds. It's REALLY slow.
Also, it's curently using about 130mb of ram (using the built in samsung active apps) which is more than any other app currently running, but it's been as high as 500mb+ with the same 2 photos in my gallery. It almost seems like a bug / memory leak issue. I'm just wondering if I'm the ONLY one experiencing this or it's a global issue.
I've done all updates available so it's running 4.4.2 with the VOLTE update. I can't find any other posts specifically related to the gallery app.
Just thought I'd mention, I don't like the gallery app and have no need for it, except the samsung camera ONLY seems to work with that app, not google photos which is what I was using on my moto x.
Before anyone asks, I've tried pretty much everything you can think of related to clearing cache, data, rebooting, and I'm not syncing picasa web albums. I don't use facebook or any other services that would display through gallery.
Any thoughts?? This is a pretty annoying bug for an otherwise excellent phone.
***UPDATE 8-10-14***
This seems to be a bug with samsungs nearby services services and DLNA servers. I'm running Plex on my local network and every time I open gallery it looks like it's trying to contact / sync something with Plex. I'm not serving photo's so I'm not sure exactly what it's trying to do but it's quite annoying. It doesn't look like there's any fix on the phone itself unless you are rooted and you can disable the service. The only other option is turning off DLNA in plex or turning off UPNP on router. Just thought I'd share if anyone else was experiencing the same issue.
TL;DR - Picked up my G4 at T-Mobile yesterday and I'm having issues fully syncing my music and playlists to my Google Play Music app. Tried every fix I could think of to no avail.
---
Only a portion of the music I've uploaded and added through All Access are showing up on the app. It's most obvious when looking through my playlists - many have significantly fewer tracks in them and some are completely blank. I've also found incomplete albums in my library.
The music hasn't been lost completely though. Everything looks fine in the web app and on my other devices (Nexus 9 and Moto G 2014).
I've tried refreshing my library, clearing cache/data, uninstalling updates, rebooting, reinstalling updates, and a factory reset. I've also unchecked and rechecked GPM sync under Accounts in Settings. No luck!
Anyone else run into this kind of issue on the G4 or any new devices they've purchased? Any suggestions for a fix? I'll troubleshoot some more today and try to exchange in-store for a new phone tomorrow if I can't find a fix.
Thanks.

EDIT
(7/15/15)
Just got an email from Google Support saying the issue has been resolved.
They had me clear my app data and cache, then reboot and refresh the library. I had to wait a couple minutes for everything to re-sync, but it actually worked for me.
I cross-referenced a dozen playlists on my phone with the playlists on the web app. All matching. Spot-checked a few artists and there doesn't seem to be any incomplete/missing albums.
LG G4 Google Music issue
Im having the same issue. I thought it just my phone and playplaylists but after reading your post I checked the music in my library and music I uploaded and music I added with all access is not there. All my other devices show my complete collection. I think it's a G4 issue.
Did switching phones help?

I had that issue, but was over WiFi. Once I disconnected from Wi-Fi, it was fine again. Not really sure what happened.

Exchanging for a new G4 did not help. :/
Have you had any luck getting your library and playlists to populate on your G4?
It doesn't seem to be only a G4 issue either. I have another thread going on at the Android Central forums and there are two other users with the same issue. One has a new G4, the other has a new GS6. We all have ongoing tickets being 'escalated' with Google Support.
I'm a newer user so I can't post outside links, but if you copy/paste some of the text in my OP you should be able to find the thread.

I have been having EXACTLY the same problem as the OP. It's been very frustrating.
Your WiFi solution has already made a bit of a difference. If it fixes it completely when I try it properly, I will track you down and kiss you passionately.

You can kiss me passionately with a $5 Starbucks gift card so I can have my coffee today! Shower me with love!
It's not the phone!

It's not your phone it's the Amateur Hour app that is Google Play Music.
While Chasing all things Social and bending over Backwards to be Facebook. Google Let this jewel of an app turn into a perfect example of why Not to Reinvent the wheel.
Ive Been having the exact same problems and many others ever since I subscribed, Dec. 2014. The app cant handle the additional strains on its limited resources and Android is already a memory sucking pig.
Ive had these issues on a Moto X 2013, Two Moto X 2014's, Two Drod Maxx's and a 2013 Nexus 7. So I know for a fact it;s not the device.
Getting any help from google is like trying to get milk from a Bull. They are so stuck in the "Everything at Google is Free and You are all our Beta Testers (Guinea Pigs) mindset. That they forget or Don't realize that people are actually paying for this service. Though, Not Many Apparently.
You can do factory resets, Data, Cache clears Uninstall and re-installs etc until the cows come home. None will Fix these issues. The problems are account related and google needs to manually reset each one.
For Music Not showing up here is a simple but painstaking fix
Log onto a PC and go to GPM Find Your music - (Google keeps trying to Hide this aspect of the Service) select an artist, Click the "All My Songs" Card = The first one, now Select / highlight every song and then click edit - Don't change anything, click save - That's it
Now go to your phone and you will see all the songs there, you might need to refresh though.
You think any of the Bike riding, Free Food eating Geniuses at google could or would tell you to do that - Don't hold your breath - All they will say is do a factory reset, deny there is or they have heard of a similar issue and finally, tell you it's been escalated. Which , like their Feedback service is another term for it's been sent to the Great Circualr Filing cabinet.
It's been 6 long months of Music constantly restarting after 20 seconds +/-, Voice commands to play a song or an album failing endlessly, Huge portions of my library gone missing on mobile devices. etc,, and Google refuses to help.
Google Play Music as it stands now is good for One thing - Shuffle Play of your library - Thats it. The Curated Lists fail More than they work, Using the shuffle widget Plays more music NOT in your library then music in it and none of it similar to what you have. The "Recommended for You" Crap is just a waste of resources.
I have 27K songs uploaded and another 26K "Added to my Library" from the Subscription and Nothing works!

Whoa that works. It's gonna be a pain but I've worked through most of "A". Thanks.
Still need to find a way to restore my playlists on my phone though. The same edit-save trick doesn't seem to do the trick.

Playlist will wok with the "Fix" but take multiple attempts. If they are Large (100+ songs) try doing it in groups of 25.
I had one playlist with 170+ songs and it took 5 attempts trying to highlight every song wouldnt work. The Edit info was greyed out.. A few songs needed to be removed and re-added - You couldn't edit their info
After I found the "Bad" Songs I was able to do a bulk edit on the list and it worked
PS I tried doing a bulk edit on all 54K songs in my library but it to failed miserably.
This may be because of googles insistence to use the arcane and antiquated Chrome / Flash for everything google. Me using an older PC with XP ( Which makes using GPM Painful) or because it has to be done artist by artist.
I reached out to google , Again yesterday by phone to tell them of the "Fix" and the Pri-madonna who I spoke to couldn't care less or be more contemptuous.
Just got an email from Google Support saying the issue has been resolved.

Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to my OnePlus 7t so I'm struggling to figure this one out.
I seem to have these odd media files that WhatsApp is picking up. I can't attach them as it says "the file format is not supported" and I can't locate them to delete them.
I've cleared the WhatsApp data, uninstalled and re installed. Gone through my local storage and can't find anything. I literally have no pictures or videos as I haven't transferred anything across from my old phone and I use a cleaner to remove all the WhatsApp junk from group chats.
Using latest EU firmware (not beta)
Scratching my head with this one. Anyone have any ideas of how I can remove these?
I don't think that's an issue with WhatsApp. Check your gallery
