So I found a temp solution on reddit for those of us who need tethering/hotspot working. So far it's worked every time and I am now posting from my hotspot connection on Marshmallow.
Steps are pretty easy, but really annoying since it requires a phone restart every time.
1. Restart phone
2. As soon as it comes up, unlock it and go to Settings > hotspot and tethering
3. Enable your hotspot
4. Profit!
If you do it fast enough it should enable it without the subscriber error. Not exactly sure how fast you need to do it once you restart but I've done it successfully every time even with a lock screen. You can also add a shortcut to the settings if you use a launcher like nova. Enjoy
There is a background process continuously resetting the global setting for provisionong requirement. I'm fixing that in my flash, should have it tonight.

I can't believe this works. Sweet!
Works on s7
Worked on sprint s7
Confirmed working, delay time isn't short( didn't count but i have a long password and didn't rush)
Thanks, I was holding off on updating till a method came out for nonrooted users. Tested and works on my s6.
Are the apns saved on the sim card or on the device?
If its saved on the sim card, cant we edit the apn in a different phone and then put the sim back in the phone?

You need root as the mod adds boot support to handle things. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65921214&postcount=20

Working great this way, Hotspots stays on till I turn it off, usually
On stock it eventually throws permission error...roughly 30 seconds after enabled for me.
I just tried the reboot trick last night. It works, I had my iPad connected to my S6's Hotspot.
History, had the MSL code working in Lollipop since August of 2015. With every update, it broke the Hotspot. I had to turn on dun in APN settings after each update. With the Marshmallow update, the APN settings are not seen in the "edit" settings view.
Will test further, I can live with the slight inconvenience for now. It would be great to have a total fix on this unrooted device.
thanks!
The reboot and swipe immediately to turn on hotspot doesn't work after 20 seconds. It'll tell me I'm not subscribed to the hotspot service. I've already edited the APNs before the MM update and had it working fine. I believe it's after updating the profile and PRL that eventually breaks it completely. Now it looks like I'll have to root to make it work like before or be tied down with USB tethering.

Yes, that's correct.
Same problem here, after MM update this morning. No more APN SETTINGS to edit. Trying USB tethering but nothing.
The restart method works fine but only if I remove password for my Hotspot.

I take it back about getting subscription error message. I reread the OP comments about setting up hotspot quickly after rebooting. This time I did it quickly step by step to turn hotspot on and so far it's working for several minutes. Don't wait a few seconds after swiping or take your time getting to the Hotspot and Tethering menu. Do everything from rebooting to turning on hotspot quickly and it may work for you guys.

*Edit* Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to never.
It seems like the Wi-Fi goes to "sleep" on the DHD. I installed VLC Remote a little while ago, and after 1-2 minutes the controller will not work. I had to quit the app and reconnect for it to work.
I did a test by pinging the DHD from my computer while the VLC Remote was active, turned off the screen several times. It worked perfect!
I then stopped the pinging and after 1-2 minutes the VLC Remote stopped responding. I pressed the pause button several times, nothing happened.
Then I started the ping back up (the VLC Remote was still open) and after a 2-3 "Request canceled" (no ping reply back from the phone) it got a response from the ping and the VLC Remote worked again.
Is there any way to make the Wi-Fi not go to "sleep"? It's annoying me to stop/start the remote every time I want to pause the movie.
I tried turning Best Wi-Fi performance on, but that didn't help
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply fkofilee. It's already set to "never". Updated the original post and title with it.
I restarted the phone and did some more testing.
As long as the screen is on there are no problems (VLC Remote responds), but when I hit the on/off button on the top of the phone to turn the screen off and turn the screen back on after a couple of minutes, VLC Remote will not respond. I have to ping the phone for VLC Remote to respond again.
Any suggestions?

I also have this issue its so annoying. I could be connected to wifi and have bars and then go to download something from the market it will pause and when I go into network setting its says wifi is authenticating but it doesnt change so I have to turn off and back on to get it working again. I had a Iphone 3gs and never had wifi issues like this.

I don't think we have the same problem. Downloading seems fine. When I ping it (while running VLC Remote), it works fine. I can shut the screen off, turn it back on 10 min later and it works fine. It seems like it goes into a type of "sleep mode" when there is no active traffic to/from the phone.
I sent an e-mail to HTC about this problem. I'll keep you guys updated.
Dont know if you do or are into mods but if you root your phone and flash clockwork mod you could try and push a new wifi module using root explorer...or even flash a custom rom...Pretty sure this would fix it..
Depends how much you know about this stuff though..

Thanks rixsta! I'm gonna do a custom ROM, but I'm gonna wait until Gingerbread is released and custom ROMs have been made for that.
Are you up for testing if this is a problem on your ROM? If so, is this fixed with a new wifi module?
*Edit* With LeeDroid 1.2 and Buzz 1,22Ghz v1.0.2 it fixed the problem! I also sent a mail to HTC and they have forwarded it to the programmers.

I'm using leedroid's Rom so can't test and I've just got it working great..but...why don't you just root with visionary and pay £2.50 for root explorer and move a new WiFi module...that's all you need..
Up to you really..you could use Apache oc kernel...you will need to s off with this method and buy setcpu from the market...if your going to be doing custom roms in the future then you will need to do this anyways...if you need help let me know...I can tell you where to get the WiFi file from...

This is the first time I have posted here so I do not know if I put this in the right area, sorry if I did not.
I have the ATT sgh-i467 note 8.0 and I have been trying to use wifi tethering. After doing some investigation, it turns out that ATT blocks tethering unless you pay them a tethering fee or buy the 5 GB plan, What BS that is. I have tried to find a work around and there does not seem to be one.
Has anyone found a wifi tether work around for the ATT note 8?

I have tried it and all the other adhoc wifi tethers, they will not work on the new phones and tablets and the carriers have tethering locked out in the device. I was hoping had found another way to do this without a hack.

I tried this but it did not work, one of the things I could not do was:
Step 10. Scroll down and make sure “MSS clamping” and “Routing fix” are both checked on.
I did not have mss clamping
Did you try this on a ATT note 8.0?

SUCCESS!!
The freezing of the att access app worked but it did not bring up the native tether option. I tried foxfi, I could get the computer to connect but it would not go to the internet, so then I tried tetherfy and that worked. I am sending this right now tethered to my note 8.0.
Screw ATT, it makes me so mad that these USA carriers try to screw everyone, I love it.
Thanks,

any way to auto kill allaccess?
Thanks to all on here, I was able to get my tether working. I was bummed though to find it disabled the AT&T data widget, as I used that to keep an eye on data used.
Well, I messed around and here is what I discovered...
I un-froze allaccess in Titanium and rebooted. After rebooting I was able to restore the allaccess widget (though tethering was again crippled). I then converted allaccess from a system app to a user app using Titanium, then forced closed it. I was then able to tether again, and the data widget still remained active. This works great until I reboot the unit, then I just need to force close the allaccess again to tether.
I am wondering if there is a way to automatically force close the program upon startup? This would allow use of the widget to monitor data without having to manually fc the allshare program.
Anyone know how to accomplish this?
So I'm rooted obviously,as to run the app but for whatever reason wifi tether isn't working. I touch (enable native hotshot option) it reboots. Then I proceed to touch (add all notification toggles) Now what? When I go to mobile hotshot to turn it on I get_(You are not subscribed to the hotshot service. First thing first is the fact that using the galaxy tools method to enable hotspot works BUT is not a permanent solution. A system update upon each boot up can revert the flag in settings.db and disable it. Now try this... after you enable the hotspot mod in Galaxy tools (AWESOME piece of work BTW!) let it reboot. If you also enabled all toggles, then DO NOT use the toggle on the first attempt to turn on the Hotspot. Instead, go into main settings and turn it on inside the main hotspot settings menu. See if it turns on and stays on. If it stays on, then turn it back off and exit settings. Next, use the hotspot toggle to turn it back on and see if it works without error. If it does then you need to keep in mind that doing a prl/profile update in settings or any system update will disable it again and again and again. If you want a permanent solution you will need a truly modified file which can be found in my rom here

In Galaxytools Turn off the auto reboot, toggle the hotspot, then manually reboot, go back into tools, start the hotspot settings from tools. Try that, if that doesn't work try checking method 2.
FYI, this thread is a duplicate of another thread and should be deleted in my opinion.
GalaxyTools works perfectly for me. I have SwitchPro Widget and put a hotpot toggle in the widget I created and use. I just tap the hotspot "button" in the widget and it works every time

Thank you so much, this worked!
Turned off auto reboot and then manually did it. It appears to not fully reboot when auto reboot attempted.
Thank you again!
I discovered it on my own but the developer of GalaxyTools mentioned this in another thread somewhere.

Anyone know of a way to unlock the hotspot and/or USB tethering?
EDIT: I found a workaround, got into airplane mode, then come out and hit the hotspot tile directly after. Then it works.
EDIT EDIT: It also works for USB tethering! Though I hate how the NDIS driver for Windows 10 makes explorer lock up for a bit, but that isn't caused by the phone itself.

Has anyone tried the old build prop edit to enable hotspot on Sprint?
just wanted to let you guys know i just did the old build.prop hack on sprint and it does infact still work.
you must have root and edit the build.prop file
simply add "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" on a new line at the end of the file without the quotes, save the file and then restart your phone and tada wifi tether will now work normally with out having to turn on and off airplane mode
is this still working for verizon?

I've been using FoxFi in USB tether mode, and it works fine. I have the phone through Verizon, and so far I haven't had any issues with tethering with USB. Since I run Windows 10, I'm able to share the connection with anything else I have using the 'Mobile Hotspot' option either on my desktop or my Cube iwork10 Ultimate. You can still share the connection even if you don't have Windows 10 through the 'WiFi Share' setting in PDANet. It's not as convenient as just using the non-USB tether mode, but at least I can still play my XBox One. That being said, I would still love to be able to root this thing, which would make me love the phone even more.
Has anyone found a work-around for the VSW Z2?
Alright, I am having issues. My hotspot will turn on and all but I cannot load any websites. it takes a long time to connect, I can ping google at 64ms, sometimes but that's it. It can't even load google. Windows thinks it's DHCP related. but there aren't any options. I did the build.prop edit and it didn't fix it.

After a few months, mine started automatically connecting to WiFi again today.
I updated Waze beta and Android Auto, so that may have been the problem for me, because I think it started after installing one or both of those in previous versions. I highly suspect one of those two since I have them set to only use data when either is started.
